GM Aerondor |
The cave’s damp air becomes increasingly stale as the Pathfinders
continue down through this tunnel, and as they approach
this area, the stench of decay grows increasingly evident.
The passage turns to the east and opens into a small
cavern littered with bits of broken glass, rotting pieces
of paper, and other unusable detritus. The body of a male
dhampir lies facedown toward the back of the cavern.
Two other bodies rest less peacefull and start to stir as you enter...
You can start with initiative. Map is up. Post away.
Ella Fiddlepocket |
Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
"Eww eww EWW!" Let's destroy those things fast!"
Ella runs right into the room, hoping to position herself to take out the evil dead quickly.
Who wants to flank with Ella? :)
GM Aerondor |
Oppse, I wan't clear. These undead are slow. You have the initiative. I also realised I'd muffed up the map link and it wasn't appearing at the top of the page, that is fixed now. So act away! You can move in the "surprise" round and then get a full round in on them before they act.
Shanara5 |
That being the case Shanara will move up to one of the dead that is not and attack
Battleaxe: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Rollie Slagton |
Rollie moves up with Ella and jabs at the undead creature with his spear. Taste my steel you unholy beast!!
Spear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
sorry Ella, could not get in position to flank with a reach weapon
Rollie Slagton |
Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
After his attack Rollie drops his spear as the reach offers no help now. He grabs his morningstar from his belt and slides over to flank the undead swinging from above his to crash it down on the creature's head.
Morningstar: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
surprise round attack was from 1 square below where rollie is now on the map, this attack is a move action to grab his morningstar, a 5 foot step then attack in flanking posiiton
Davor Murri |
Just clarifying, are the undead zombies or skeletons? I assume zombies due tot he pics but just want to make sure.
Davor, growls a little as his aim is blocked by the barbarian, moving to grab the whip from his hip and uncoiling it. With a flick, he aims to wrap the weapon around the legs of the undead and pull it back to the ground.
Trip with Whip: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
GM Aerondor |
Rollie sticks a zombie with his spear. While the end goes it, the tough skin seems to absort much of the blow. Seeing the weapon ineffective he drops it and tries his morningstar, with much the same effect - the tough skin absorbs much of the blow.
Ella tries to hit it with her rapier.
attakc: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Her rapier seems little more effective than the spear.
Agains the southern zombie, the crew seems equally ineffective. Davor fails to trip it, while Shanara pulls off the worst move anyone has seen for a long time. Slow they maybe, but they do move. Unlike the floor of the cave which he battle axe bounces off.
The northern zombie swipes at target: 1d2 ⇒ 2attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 Ella, but misses.
While it's southern neighbour goes for Shanara. attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10crit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9. It's brutal blow knocks the half orc back a pace or two. A lesser mortal would have had her back broken by that blow.
You are all up again
Status
Zombie North 9 damage
Shanara 10 damage
Ella Fiddlepocket |
Seeing the creature's relative immunity to her toothpick of a weapon, Ella decides to try a spell instead. She will defensively cast shocking grasp. Concentration: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 and of course will fail miserably. Sigh.
Rollie Slagton |
Rollie catches the devastating blow on Shanara out of the corner of his eye. Surprised to see her standing, he calls out "I will tend to you as soon as we dispatch this one.. hang in there!!"
Rollie once again swings his morningstar at the zombie.
morningstar attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 = 17
damage: 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 = 10
GM Aerondor |
Ella tries to get off a spell, but fails. Luckily Rollie lines up the slow creatures head and knocks it clean off with his morning star.
At the other side of the room Davor continues to try and trip the zombie, but with little more success than his first attempt. Shanara however cuts it deeply with her battleaxe. That weapon seems as effective against these undead as it would be against the living.
It tries to return the favour
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
This time the half orc easily avoids the blow (I assume you have better than AC 10?)
Status
Zombie South 10 damage
Shanara 10 damage
Shanara, can you put your AC and HP in your title bar, like the others have? Thanks
Shanara5 |
hp is listed at 5/15 and the ac is listed as 16. They are in the spoiler. Some GM like it a little hidden.
Rollie Slagton |
As the zombie head goes flying with putrid blood and bone everywhere, Rollie lets out a "woe-ah" before getting his mind back into the fight. He slides back and retrieves his spear from the ground.
"Shanara, retreat past me, none shall pass me."
Rollie readies an attack with his spear.
5 step move, move action to pick up spear, standard action to ready attack if zombie moves closer (plus Rollie gets another AOO if he moves closer then out of that space)
Readied attack (if necessary): spear att plus dam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Ella Fiddlepocket |
Ella moves around her allies and uses a point of mental focus from her wand to spray a ray of acid at the final zombie, hoping to finish it off.
ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 = 20 <- (-4 for being in melee)
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4 acid
crit!!: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 4 = 6
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 acid Aww poo... lol
GM Aerondor |
The ray of acid finishes off the second zombie, and for a moment the room is quiet. The zombies themselves appear to be animated gillmen. A different figure in the corner (a dhampir) is also dead, perhaps the necromancer who stretched his power too far.
Among the fallen bodies, you find a note
written by the dhampir that details plans to start an army
of undead made from the “fish people” who have been
frequenting this cave. On him you also find a nice pearl, and an amulet.
Perception checks would be helpful now as well.
Rollie Slagton |
"Blech". Bile rising in his throat at the foul sight of a gillman zombie stewing in a pool of acid. Forcing down a swig of water he goes about cleaning his weapons.
Turning back to the task at hand, "Shanara, do you require healing? If we can't find something in Janira's bag, I can help you."
He then begins to search the cave and examine the pearls and amulet. Once satisfied all that can be discovered, he records the encounter and crude map of the cave so far on a parchment.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Ella Fiddlepocket |
Ella opens the pack and digs around. "I'm pretty sure I saw a wand in here that looked heal-y." She eventually pulls out the wand of cure light wounds and says "Here Rollie, use this on her."
Remember that the wand is caster level 3 with 8 charges, so it heals 1d8+3 with each charge. Very useful. :-D
Rollie Slagton |
Rollie fishes through Janira's pack and pulls out a wand indicating healing of wounds.
He stands over Shanara and mutters words he knows well activating the wand. Shanara's wounds begin to close...
wand of cure light wounds cl3: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
GM Aerondor |
While there is no more treasure to find, Davor does notice a small tunnel that has been slightly concealed and leads away from the apparent dead end...
Rollie Slagton |
Rollie takes out a piece of chalk and marks the hidden tunnel with a Grand Lodge symbol keeping hope alive that Janira has survived the encounter with the minotaur.
Before proceeding into the new tunnel, Rollie inspects the dead dhampir looking for clues as to what killed it. "If it weren't these zombies that killed it, it might be something from that tunnel. "
GM Aerondor |
Looking at the wounds on the Dhampir, they look similar to those on Shanara. It would appear the necromancer met a fitting end at the hands of his own creations.
Shanara5 |
Shanara will also take a careful look around.
I would love to take 20 on this is possible giving me a 24
"Is pretty items magic?"
Rollie Slagton |
While Shanara takes one last look around, Rollie resettles his gear, recasts light on his holy symbol, forces some more water down and puts the wand of cure light wounds in his belt "Anybody mind if I hold on to this for now?"
Feeling as ready as he will ever be, Rollie "I guess we're ready. I prefer to go in 2nd, but can lead the way if needed"
Davor Murri |
No Detect for Davor, but does Society play differentiate between Arcane and Divine scrolls?
I have no skill at the arcane either. Either we can try using them or wait and see if Janira might be able to discern what they do.
Davor looks tot he tunnel and back to his allies.
I would be willing to watch our backs, if Ella does not mind.
GM Aerondor |
PFS makes no distinction between arcane and divine scrolls.
The tunnel twists and turns. Often less than five feet wide, sometimes ten or even fifteen feet in width.
Filtering through the rocks you can hear the voice of Janira, taunting the minotaur which sounds like it is still following her.
The only problem is, you also sense something else in the cave...
Rollie: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Davor: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Ella: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Shanara: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
critter: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (1) - 5 = -4
You can all act, you are also all inspired by Janira (+1 to hit and damage)
Shanara5 |
Shanara will strike at this thing when she sees it.
Battleaxe: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10
Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 and takes a chunk out of the wall.
Rollie Slagton |
Rollie strains to listen to the encounter trying to gauge how far in the distance it is...Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.
By something else, you mean something other than a minotaur we percieve?
GM Aerondor |
Yeap, if you look carefully at the map you may even see something... Maybe you heard a small slurping sound...
Rollie Slagton |
"Not sure what I saw or heard, but somethings up there around the bend. The minotaur will have a hard time chasing us in these narrow caves, so let's deal with the other thing first."
Rollie moves up to where he heard the noise spear at the ready. He turns the corner and sees.....
if there's something attackable there he attacks
spear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
