AKA: Character name
Faction: Your faction
PFS: # for the character
XP: starting XP, You are all on 37 xp

XP TRACK: Slow or Standard no slow track option for this series
Try to hold off actual discussion here until we have one post per character with those details (makes life easy for me to make the chronicles for you all at the end).
Please add an Icon for your character to the map. If you don't know how, let me know and I'll help.

Sorry for my lack of posting here lately. It has been one problem after another here. Starting off with my old trusty laptop dying on me. Then they redid the computer access at work, and paizo was blocked from the IP for being a not trusted site. Then when I got my laptop up and running, I got saddled with a trainee that will most likely being terminated after the new year, and it my job to do the final assessments.
So please bear with me while I play catch up.
GM Aerondor |
No worries. We have been in this series for a long haul. It is a four parter, but none are short parts, and the first actually counts as two scenarios.
Morrin the Stout |
Agreed, enjoy the holiday! Relax and rest up.
GM Aerondor |
Just going to move the Wall of Stone discussion over to here.
I was thinking of the blocking the door is two 5x5 sheets, (as doors are typically 3-4' wide and 7-8' tall and the wall of stone spell also specifically works in 5x5 blocks).
The wall created by the spell itself is less than 10' thick, so I don't think the general rule of shapeable spells requiring a minimum of 10' thickness is applicable to not making it thicker, if anything it is moving the thin margin toward a more regular shapeable shape.
Likewise things like crenulations tend not to be effective if they are 10' wide.
The specifics of this spell "you can create a wall of stone in almost any shape you desire" I think trump the general rule about shapeable spells.
If you can find an FAQ, a PFS campaign clarification on the subject or something similar I'm happy to be convinced otherwise.
Alie Saechel |
DM, would you think Alie had an opportunity to glance into the room before Tortuga went in? Just wondering if I’d be able to Dim Door us into the room...
GM Aerondor |
Yes, I see no issue with Alie having seen the room before the wall of stone went down. But you don't know what is in there at the moment. So there is a bit of a chance you could land in a swarm of insects.
GM Aerondor |
I'm going to be away for a couple of days. Impromptu camping trip organised by the family.
GM Aerondor |
And another camping trip before School starts back. I'll be away Saturday til Tuesday.
GM Aerondor |
No worries. This is a tricky room, but it does need the team to take some actions. Without wanting to give anything away, I heard about another run of this scenario had the party take more damage from this area than virtually everything else put together.
Tortuga |
I'm guessing we need Morrin to use his trapfinding abilities on all these doors and levers.
Kalendir |
Sounds good to me. Only thing I can think of is the riddle dealing with these. Five seasons of Summer thing.
Kalendir |
Alie Saechel |
I bet that means there are five rooms that will blast us with fire. We took the shortest passageway and got hit with fire so I bet there are four more rooms total that will blast us. Can we go another way?
Morrin the Stout |
I do have my portable hole that two could fit uncomfortably in, and those who can take the fire may rush through.
GM Aerondor |
We've been stuck in this room for almost a month. I know puzzles can be frustrating in PBP, as can dungeon crawls in general.
This is one of the more dangerous 'encounters' in the scenario so I'm reluctant to just handwave it, but at the same time, I don't want it to drag.
I'm open to creative ways to speed this up a bit.
Kalendir |
I am kind of at a loss. We tried what I assumed the riddle meant. Does anyone else have any solutions?
Tortuga |
Can someone restate the riddle? I don't even remember there being a riddle.
Kalendir |
Alie Saechel |
That clue is so basic that I have no idea what it is specifically referring to. I suppose we could try to bash down my wall of stone and see what is in that room. Besides the pissed off spellcaster trapped there of course.
Morrin the Stout |
We can play with him, haha. Maybe run in while invisible, and sweetly ask questions in his ear, with a blade at his back.
Alie Saechel |
Okay, seriously. Let’s think about this.
“Five seasons of fire.” Does that clue mean we have to get hit with five fire traps total in the first room then it will open up as the shortest season or route or whatever it said? It didn’t mention ice like Kal got hit with in the next room. If there is ice, there is probably electricity and acid, too, none of which are mentioned in the clue. Im about ready to say, let’s take five shots of fire and see what happens next. Other than that, I don’t have a clue.
GM Aerondor |
It is worth noting that before Kale when into the "cold" room, you had already had five sets of fire. You got a sixth when he pulled the lever in the next room. I'm not sure if you have enough spell ability to do communal protection from elements for everyone for the other elements, but if you did that would give you plenty of time to "work out" the scheme of things, and would be an acceptable way for me to bypass the room.
Tortuga |
FYI, I will be heading to a convention starting tomorrow. Please bot me as needed.
Alie Saechel |
I do not have any more elemental Resistance magic, unless I start burning higher spell slots for them, but I suspect we’ve got another fight or two ahead of us.
Any ideas here?
Tortuga |
Nope, no clue.
Morrin the Stout |
Want me to bum rush with Alie in my portable hole, and hope I get through, and she can dim door or teleport everyone?
GM Aerondor |
Up to you. How will Alie get out of the hole if something happens to Morrin? How long will she wait.
If she is willing to burn the extra higher level spell slots I'm happy to have you bypass the trap, or just go through a load of saves with Morrin while you try to work it out.
Alie Saechel |
Give me a vote, fellas. Do you want me to burn the slots so we can get through this? I’ll be pretty gimped afterwards, though.
Here’s a question, DM. Are we on ‘a timer,’ so to speak? I don’t remember. Could we rest and then proceed forward, or do we have to catch him by a certain time and need to press forward?
Kalendir |
I vote for burning the spell slots. This is in essence a combat of sorts. I think we will have enough firepower for whatever is to come later.
GM Aerondor |
The glowing red portal from Akiton to the Maze of the Open Road on distant Golarion rises from the pinnacle of the towering pyramid ahead, as howling, icy winds tear across the red sands, whipping them into an angry, biting torrent. Venture-Captain Eliza Petulengro rushes up the structure, turning back only briefly to ensure that she’s being followed. Reaching the top of the massive structure, she turns to speak, but pauses for a moment to think. Her voice wavers with a twinge of desperation and fear.“I… we… We will never catch up to Adril if we take the Maze back. He’s already in Skyreach.”
Slowly, her pained expression surrenders to resolve. “I’m going to rift the portal. It’s the only way…”
"Fletch" |
Sorry for my absence. Been sick for days.
I have no insights to add and agree that Alie burning her spell slots is probably our best option. Consider it your hero moment, Alie!
Kalendir |
3 since we are already protected against fire
"Fletch" |
No, okay, wait a minute. If the clue is intended to help us, we need to stick with the fire room. Right?
Did we pull the same lever all five times?
