Here is the discussion thread. Discuss away!
* Please be able to post at least once a day, throughout the week. More frequently is welcomed. I move fast as a DM. If the party is in a battle and the PC doesn't act within 48 hours after the monsters act, I reserve the right to bot the PC or have the character go full-defensive.
* I use group initiative. What I do is average my creatures initiative modifier then add it to a d20 roll. Then average the PC's initiative modifier and add it to a d20 roll. The characters can go in any other when it is there turn to go. The side that has the highest roll goes first, then flip-flops from there.
* I will roll saving throws, AoO's and some skills depending on the situation. If there is an error with the roll, feel free to let me know.
* No meta-gaming, faerie whispering or telling people what they should do during a battle or conversations. I ask you to honor this on both the Gameplay & Discussion boards. Only short phrases should be used on your turn during combat.
* I ask that you do not read spoiler tags that are not in your name.
* If there needs to be any more clarifications, I'll post them here.
As to the matter if PCs know each other through the same faction or religion, I leave that up to the characters. What ever makes the party gel together is a bonus in my book.
Good intros so far.

Omrax - I'd assume he and Astyannax at least know each other from worship services for Ioemedae. As Astyannax follows her out of his belief in Aroden, he sort of has a dual worship. He certainly isn't as dedicated to Iomedae as Omrax, but is still a fighter dedicated to her service.

![]() |

Oh another thing. I'll need at least 3 people to agree on a course of action. Like if you are in tunnels and you can go left or right, I need at least 3 people to agree to go a direction. This gives time to make sure at least half the party agrees with a course of action and one person isn't speaking for the whole party.
"OK, we run into the dragon's lair."
"I agree, CHARGE!'
"Uh, I don't think so guys. Can we think about it?"
This isn't to be held to people who want to do things individually.
Bob the rogue "I scout ahead 20'"
I don't need 2 other people to agree Bob can go scout.
Make sense?

![]() |

So at least half the party must decide when and where to party?
Got it.

![]() |

A quick search did not reveal anything specific (OK, I spent like 7 seconds going through the results), aside from the fact that maybe you play Battlefield a lot :-) So no idea here.
And to the GM - I understand and agree on the "at least half a party" rule

![]() |

Just wondering: anybody know where I got Astyannax's name from?
To be honest no, but based on your main handle, I'm guessing it's one of Conan Doyle's characters.
Wonder if it's a villain.
I like Holmes and Watson too, but I doubt my knowledge is in your league.

Ezrek walks over to a bookcase and peers at it for a moment. At last he appears to find what he is looking for, he withdraws a large, dusty tome. You see that the title of the book is The Wikipedia. He pages through it and at last paused.Ah, here we are. The spelling is slightly different, but I believe this will work. Ahem, let me see, Astyanax, one N, was the son of Hector and Andromache, people of ancient race forgotten today, but known as the Greeks. Legend has it that the baby, Astyanax, was thrown from the walls of a citadel or another that he was hidden in the tomb of his father during a great war. Do I have the general idea of it Master Cavalier? Ezrek closes the tome and returns it to.the shelf.

![]() |

And Ezrek wins (with style, no less!).
I am a serious Trojan War buff (I'm referring to the Iliad, not the Brad Pitt movie). There are a lot of great names in the Iliad and the Odyssey. Not as many in The Aeneid.
Any fans of the Tick can insert the "Homer. The Iliad! Read a Book!" bit from One Ton and his hand puppet.

![]() |

I don't know for the rest of you but I find Lusisila's comments very amusing.
Holy Drone, the BOW as well!
and
What has Dreng been smoking?
And more importantly ... where can I get some?
are precious little gems. Kudos to you "Yours is mined" :-)

![]() |

You all will receive Evoking Day Festival chronicles for this scenario. If by some wonky chance, we finish this in 3 weeks, I'll give it to you then. Otherwise, I'll make sure you get them before the deadline. For both this chronicle and A Vision of Betrayal, I'll need an email address to send them too. You can either PM me it or post it here.
I love all the personalities so far. That is the kick I get out of running PbP games.

![]() |

Hey Astyannax,
I was browsing the boards earlier today and came across a new PbP by a "GM Iliad". It reminded me of some of the things you spoke about yesterday and so I clicked the link and discovered it was ... you!
I haven't picked up anything by Run Amok yet, but Ron Lundeen seems to have a good rep on the boards - how good is "Teeth of the Storm"?

![]() |

One thing I'm a little leery of in PbP is metagaming in the sense that if we were sitting around a table together, we would have quite a bit of out of character conversation on tactics, strategy, etc.
The discussion tab is for that, but I've found there's a lot less of it used in PbP. So, if I overstep 'proper', I expect Neb to rap my knuckles with a ruler (my Catholic school upbringing). So....
I think we should work out our roles a bit and then play them out in character.
Somebody with a high sense motive score (I have a whopping 1) could be predisposed to doing a Sense Motive check in important conversations (like this one with Torch).
Somebody with good charisma (Ast has a 14, but only a 10 intelligence) could be a general spokesperson. When diplomacy is required, Ast has a 6, but only a 2 when it's time to bluff.
I haven't dug into everybody's stats, but what things do folks feel they could contribute without constant prompting?
Obviously, Ast (along with Omrax) is up front when swords are expected, while Harldir probably would provide bow coverage. As a cavalier, anything horse-ridingish is up his alley.
Anyone? Anyone?

It's VERY short. Starts at night and is done by next morning. It's very linear (which is what I was looking for) and kinda gothic. Original plan was just to run it to develop some GMing skills. But I realized that was pretty limiting for the players (no character development at all).
Don't know if you saw this morning's update but I decided I'm going to use it as a lead in to Raging Swan Press' Shadowed Keep on the Borderlands, which goes up to third level. Dropping it in West Andoran, so people can use Golarion for the fluff.
I've read several things from Raging Swan and they do quality stuff.
Ron Lundeen wrote a mystery module called The Six Gryphons Haunt that reads great. Ron even wrote a module for Raging Swan recently, which is a great combo.

Yours is mined |

Yeah, I'm a fan of Creighton Broadhurst.
His Greyhawk stuff was solid and Retribution is amongst the best 1 level adventure for PF I have read (haven't played or run it).
Ok, as to your post, I guess we can start here and maybe take it to a tavern depending on what the others want to do.
To be honest, Luisila doesn't have a lot of skills.
Her Perception mod is +5 so I can be the eyes and ears while we roleplay if noone has a higher score.
I'm also the obvious healer, but I'm thinking the use for that after combat situations will be obvious yeah?

Yours is mined |

I like what you did with the sense motive check - got me thinking I should try doing something similar - and remember this is all new to me, and I don't know to how many of the others.
I guess Badger and Emrek may have the highest Charisma scores, but there's a roleplay angle there too. We all may have different game styles, some will like rolling dice or others flapping their gums, some may be more comfortable in the background, others will want to be a leader, and there's nothing wrong with any of that in my view, if we're having fun.
I'm a bit nervous about the combat side - my plan was to stay close enough to buff/heal the front rank while using my bow and act as a second line of defense to the squishies. But I guess terrain and opponents are all going to affect what happens.
The other thing is Ben seems like a witty guy who is on the ball. He seems to like the roleplay going on, and I'm taking some cues from that.
Astyannax, I'm reading what you do too, my friend. Maybe send a few more of your ideas up the flagpole IC. If you do it the right way, I'm sure someone will salute it!

When Lusisila gave that spiel to Torch, I envisioned Polonius' great speech from Hamlet:
"My liege, and madam, to expostulate
What majesty should be, what duty is,
What day is day, night night, and time is time,
Were nothing but to waste night, day, and time;
Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit,
And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes,
I will be brief. Your noble son is mad. . .
I don't mind role play, but somebody who really likes it, if the character matches, would be best for general spokesman. Not every interaction, but somebody kinda has to front the group (or so I think). Now, a paladin wouldn't be great for it in Cheliax, or a rogue at Lastwall....
Sorting out a few things here saves time from doing it ic, but I would like to have us talk out traveling order ic. I've found those to be interesting and revealing in the past.

![]() |

Ezrek has a 19 in Cha, though I don't think I put any ranks in Diplomacy(+5 I think). I'm certainly not advocating myself for front man. I would always be willing to Aid Another. Either way, just putting in my two cents.

Whenever we actually start traveling my eidolon will come into play. You guys haven't seen him yet because he is more of his ride as opposed to an actual fighter. I want him to look like a hairy lizard. Imagine a lizard with that crown like hood almost like a triceratops but the actual mouth and eyes are lizard like. I want his entire body besides his head and feet to be covered in gray hair like a wolfs. His tail will be covered in hair as well except the protruding arches of skin like horns that you see often on a lizard tail. Those protruding whatever you would call them will stick out of the hair on his skin. And btw this is one fast lizard mount lol

![]() |

I currently don’t have any food (and certainly can’t afford a mount) I did want to ask Haladir IC (Ranger = Survival?) if he thought it likely he’d trap/hunt some game on the way.
Ben, is it OK if I do that when Haladir arrives and adjust my character sheet (for trail rations) retrospectively?

His speed is 45ft and can carry me and everything I have twice and still be a light load. Awwwwwww yeah

Luisila, that is fine. But we are in no rush and other people still need to prepare. Actually believe you shorted yourself some gold. You should have 20 gp, not 2.
Keep this in mind though: Get along in the wild. Move up to half your overland speed while hunting and foraging (no food or water supplies needed). You can provide food and water for one other person for every 2 points by which your check result exceeds 10.

![]() |

Looks like we have a fairly charismatic group here ... Well beyond the norm for a pfs table.
Omrax does diplomacy but otherwise not much else skill wise. He has a new happy stick to help with healing.

Thanks, GM Neb. Woo Hoo more gold you say? I will certainly be looking in to this. (Won't be checking your math though, uh uh)
Apparently this game has a few rules ...

... Omrax does diplomacy ...
Do you what!
Omrax gets my vote for party face.
I'm sure anyone who wants to can aid another as well.

This is the most active campaign I'm in :P
Hey Badger, thanks for this.
I honestly don't have any reference point for comparison.

![]() |

Just a small heads-up - I am taking my team for a team building weekend in Budapest, Hungary, so my posts may be scarce. Will get back on Monday. Cheers
Haraldir, have fun.
I've never been to Europe, would like to hear your impression of Budapest, assuming they don't have you locked away in a conference room all day ;)

![]() |

Hey Ben
I just spotted the youtube vid you posted in Gameplay ...
... We are so not worthy

![]() |

GM Neb, I was going to pitch an idea of roleplaying Luisila (and whoever else if they’re interested) coming back from a dry goods store but walking past the local horse trader ... kinda like how I used to use any excuse to walk past a car lot when sent out on an errand as a kid and drool over things I couldn’t afford.
I just checked the PathfinderWiki for the name of a horse trader and discovered in all innocence (really, would I lie to you) that the guy is a
Dunno if it’s OK to do this kinda as a flashback scene if we are actually on the road either? Can you please let me know what you think?

As for wording in front of dice rolls you do the following: [dice=What you want to type] then end it with the /dice (but with brackets).
A good way to see how something is formatted, click on reply of that message. That will retype what was written along with how certain phrases or mechanisms were formatted.

Omrax purchased the mule and pack saddle (8gp+5gp) in addition to the other gear (20gp of gear purchased total and marked on his sheet).
I could not find the entry for a mule for carrying capacity etc. Not sure if it is similar to a light horse or pony. Anyway, will load all the spare supplies on the mule.

Excellent time, thank you for the well-wishes. The trip (excursion) have been a blast, my girls and guys are very satisfied. Now back to work...
