[PFS] #5–08: The Confirmation (Play-by-Post) (Inactive)

Almost all Pathfinders undergo extensive training for three or more years to learn the tricks of the trade, and their last test before graduating from the ranks of the initiates to the status of a full Pathfinder agent is the Confirmation, a special research project that involves considerable fieldwork and is designed to simulate the initiates' future work as a Pathfinder. Even the noteworthy field commissioned agents sometimes participate in such trials as a way to familiarize themselves with the Pathfinder Society’s rules and expectations. Although Confirmation is typically an individual affair, the society recently discovered a site on the Isle of Kortos that would be perfect for initiates but perhaps too dangerous to handle alone. Successfully uncovering this site’s secrets will not only contribute to the society’s body of knowledge but shape the exciting careers ahead for each of the prospective agents.

            
   
   
Hey everyone! Some of you may remember me from the Ruins of Pathfinder series of adventures run here on the Paizo boards. While I had to step away from the long campaigns due to time-constraints, I've discovered that I have enough free time to run the occasional Pathfinder Society game. This is my first foray into PFS as a GM and I'm eager to get things started with The Confirmation.

             Recruitment Requirements
  

1) A PFS legal character of 1st or 2nd level.
2) Full character stats in profile.
3) Ability to post once or twice daily.
  

             Gameplay Rules
 
 
1) Combat will be adjudicated via a shared GoogleDrive map for an example, check out this map from my Reign of Winter campaign.. PCs will declare what grid-square they are moving into on their turn and the map will be updated at the end of the round.
2) Outside of combat I will move the scenario ahead if no one has posted for 24 hours.
3) In combat you have 12 hours to take your turn. If you do not take your turn within 12 hours you will be considered to have delayed your turn.

I will be accepting characters on a first come, first serve basis.

The game will begin when we have reached six players (or on Saturday, June 28th if we have 4+ players but have not filled the table yet.)

I would love to play...level 1 fighter using a bow.

My wife and I are looking for a game of this. We have a lvl 1 investigator and a lvl 1 shaman (both from ACG). We can have profiles up when you need them.

I did just notice that you wanted to start by saturday at the latest. We will be out of town this weekend, but may be able to post. We would definitely be back by Sunday night.

I've never played PFS before, but I'd love to try it out, especially in PbP format. I'm working on making a PFS alias right now. I can definitely do at least one post a day, probably two.

Since this scenario is meant as an intro for newbies, I'm going to try to reflect that with my first PFS character. ;) Will post again with the alias as soon as it's ready.

I could definitely be tempted to produce a melee beat-stick for this scenario :-)

That is a quite impressive first level character :-). Either you are the best mini maxer EVER or you cut and pasted a bit too much :-)

Hah... You caught me midway through adding a profile! Cut and paste from my dhampir archer, but I am editing on the tablet and didn't want to lose everything. Fixed now. Still need to select traits and spend money from my first Chronicle... Should be uptodate by tomorrow.

Haha, now I see a Fensyriath's a 4-star GM. That's no pressure to perform well on my first outing as a PFS GM at all! ;)

Well derp! I fell victim once again to the "Forgot to copy the contents of my post and the whole thing vanished" thing! And then my computer locked up and ate PCGen for good measure! Well, I feel discouraged after losing basically my entire character sheet, so I'll go ahead and drop off of this one. But next time somebody runs this scenario, I am on board!

Is Hans built using Amiri's pregen? If so it doesn't seem to match up stat-wise. Nothing looks out of place, but I just want to be sure that's kosher. I don't see anything explicitely stating a pregen can't be modified within the confines of PFS. I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything.

Edit: Ha! Well-- you're also a Venture Captain so I imagine you've got the answer to that!

This also raises a question I haven't be enable to find a good answer for. PFS requires you have a copy of the physical book or a watermarked PDF if you're using something outside the core assumption. How is that tactfully handled in a PbP usually?

CHUD: I had the same thing happen to me once in a non-PFS game here! I came back around and rebuilt the entire character and he wound up twice as cool as the first go-around. Don't give up! :)

@Robert Brookes: No, it is not built using Amiri's stats - his build is of my own design; it is just the one that I tend to use at 1st level for all my PCs, for added survivability ;-)

Re: Resource access / boons in PbPs - It is certainly within the GM's rights to ask for proof, but usually, in PbPs, it relies on the honor system (I know that I have never requested proof of ownership in my PbPs, and I have never been asked to provide it, either).

Definitely! If this goes well for you and you want to start up another starter PFS game later on, I got dibs!

Thanks for the response there! I guess the name threw me off! I'm glad to know that the honor system still has it's uses, too. I was hoping that was the case, because it's a bit of a quagmire otherwise.

Not to worry, PbP is a forgiving arena.

For books etc. I usually mention the rules to players, but don't worry too much unless an issue comes up. Once I finish Fen I will send you my Additional Resources list, though. I built him in Season 3, gave him 1 GM credit, and then never played him... So I will use the pre-level-1 rebuild to tweak him a bit. Will let you know when I am locked.

How quickly do you anticipate moving through the adventure? Me and a buddy may be interested, but we'd love to be in a game where folks are equally as interested in keeping momentum up. :)

@Eben - We should move through the scenario at a brisk pace. If there's good RP I won't rush everyone through it, but I also don't intend to linger for too long on any one element.

Well, with 8 people we could field 2 four-person tables, he said, making more work for the GM...

I'd do two tables of six or one six and one four, but I've heard how dangerous the Confirmation can be and I'd rather not risk losing both tables to potential doom. I'll keep an eye here though and if we get a couple more people I'll definitely put together the second table!

Also, could I get a status from this table's players if they've played The Confirmation before? For those who aren't aware the scenario has some variations that can be used depending on if anyone's played the scenario before.

I have not. Tried to GM it once, but didn't have enough players. of course, I will not be allowing GM knowledge to cross the stream of player knowledge. Egon warned me about that.

This is Mors Buolgun (Eben's character), Chelaxian mercenary and tough guy ... most recently one of the freshest Pathfinder recruits, ready for his Confirmation.

Some things may shift a bit before the game launches, but mostly gear tweaks and whatnot. Let me know if there are any questions or concerns about his sheet.

Group 1's table is up in the gameplay thread. I was short on time tonight so it will take a little bit to get the second table up. I hope to have it set up tomorrow after I review the newly submitted characters.
