No problem, super busy with the house here as well.

Also, stop making me blush...

Also also I would propose a crossover between Rudabeh and Queshem (you could totally use an undine crew member) but then it would just be constant speeches and no action.

Congrats, you threaded the needle very well here. I had many other scenarios planned out for the mercenary meeting. I think this is the best outcome, actually. The bit about joining the mercs are pretty genius.

LN Female Undine (Outsider (Native) and Aquatic (Amphibious)) Paladin of Alseta (lvl 7) | HP: 56/56| AC: 12 (12 Tch 11 Ff) | CMB: +10 CMD: 22 | F: +11 R: +7 W: +9 | Init: +1 | ACP: -5 | Perc: +10, SM: +10 | Speed 30ft (walk/swim) | Darkvision 60 ft | Divine Bond: 1/1 | Smite Chaos 3/3 | Lay on Hands: 8/8 |Active conditions:

Thanks, you inspired me to do that with the words from her father bit about making them WANT to believe you. So all credit to Gegdev?

This went REALLY well considering we captured Druxan too. Rudabeh has a plan for him...

I have been working on Rudabeh making bolder statements and promises as she leans into her new role as a leader, and experimenting with taking risks. You have said before that once she sees a path, she follows it all the way. I'm sticking to that, but with much bigger things.

Now let us celebrate this victory and march back to the Red Cresent with spoils galore! I get very excited about loot, and I consider a king's High Chancellor and a group of 40 hardened mercenaries some sweet, sweet loot.

Sick here, so no post today.

One thing, don't get too carried away by the cheering crowd. Think of it more as warrior releasing pent up energy and phsyicing themselves up for battle, and not undying adulation for you. Just wanted to make that clear.

But the dynamics of your role in the revolt have changed.

Pretty cool stuff.

I have some ideas for next arc....or maybe it is just a fever dream.

Ah I did misinterpret the cheering, thanks for the heads up. It makes sense, I mean they're mercenaries.

Gooood I look forward to seeing those ideas!

Anyway- 'asynchronous'? Vocab points to you.

Guuurgh home ownership is time consuming when you try to do everything yourself! Sorry for the delay.

Asynchronous is a pretty common word in chemistry when you're dealing with transitions, translations, vibrations, and rotttations of molecules! Which I don't deal with these days but it was part of my schooling.

If only plumbing was part of my schooling... it would be useful right about now.

Post coming upppp. Everyone's a critic, eh?

Yes, home ownership is like that and it never lets up.

Ever.

What plumbing issues are you having?

No issues, just replacing a bunch of rusted valves and fixing leaks. I can do all the threaded ones myself but there's been a few soldered ones I've called a plumber for. Also why the hell did I roll a 1d10 on the last post when greatsword is 2d6? Sorry about that.

Half damage for making the will save as well, correct? My real-life spellcraft check tells me that was Chaos Hammer. You did a great job describing it.

Ah, this is worse than I thought. Didn't expect her to be so powerful. Rudabeh is all out of divine juice so this may go very poorly. This is kind of funny because the last scene went perfectly and this is clearly going awfully.

Well, I made this bed... time to sleep in it.

You know this game better then me, that spell was new to me. Seemed very fitting.

I wouldn't get too worried. She did most of her great spells already and she can't five foot step again. Not enough space in this room. If she hadn't got Ractus it would would have been peremptory, just like you expected.

I loved the symbolism of all your allies being Chaotic.

And yes, that will save is for half damage. Good thing you made it. being slow right now would not be wise.

Poor Orza.

LN Female Undine (Outsider (Native) and Aquatic (Amphibious)) Paladin of Alseta (lvl 7) | HP: 56/56| AC: 12 (12 Tch 11 Ff) | CMB: +10 CMD: 22 | F: +11 R: +7 W: +9 | Init: +1 | ACP: -5 | Perc: +10, SM: +10 | Speed 30ft (walk/swim) | Darkvision 60 ft | Divine Bond: 1/1 | Smite Chaos 3/3 | Lay on Hands: 8/8 |Active conditions:

I have spent many an hour looking over the Cleric spell list and trying to figure out ways to abuse it. You just did a really good job describing it so it was obvious what it was. It's a great spell... if you're trying to kill a paladin.

Also, you say I know the game well, but not only did I mess up the great sword damage I forgot it's -4 to make a non-lethal attack with a lethal weapon, not -2. How can I ever show my face to the other rules lawyers ever again?

It's pretty amusing they're all chaotic. Rudabeh's code actually says she is forbidden from working with chaotic allies unless it's to defeat a greater chaos. Consider what's at stake I can see why she hasn't been stripped of her powers, but dammmmmmmn, there is a lot of chaos here. Whichever servant of Alseta keeps watch over Rudabeh is being very generous. Which by the way I have always considered The Welcoming Faces her "patron" and the one that originally granted her access to Alseta's divinity/brought her to Alseta's attention when she swore her oaths, even though she doesn't know it. It seemed the most paladin-like and aligned with her goals.

The Welcoming Faces:

The Welcoming Faces (Herald of Alseta): This enormous, construct-like outsider appears to be masks of copper and silver tied together, as if around an invisible head. Each face wears a small, enigmatic smile, even while the creature speaks, which is often. The Welcoming Faces frequently appears to powerful followers seeking guidance on whether to open a particular secured door or whether to embark on a life-changing transition—for the wisdom of passing such thresholds is often of deep concern to Alseta, and thus to the Welcoming Faces.

On rare occasions, the Welcoming Faces also appear to defend temples of Alseta from particularly powerful or evil intruders. The Welcoming Faces also serve as an arbiter between powerful mortals who disagree over a fundamental issue, such as the boundaries of nations or conflicting laws governing access to pilgrimage or heritage sites.

Funny, I never thought you were flirting with losing your paladin-ness. Rudabeh is very clearly trying to do her best with a bad situation that was thrust upon her. Alseta doesn't seem like a stickler, to me.

Veleda's take may be very different however.

Glad you are enjoying the scene.

Also, poor Ractus. He got blinded after working for you, for what...twenty minutes?

Unrelated, I had the idea to get a Word Cloud for this game, but should I wait until the end of this arc, whenever that is?

LN Female Undine (Outsider (Native) and Aquatic (Amphibious)) Paladin of Alseta (lvl 7) | HP: 56/56| AC: 12 (12 Tch 11 Ff) | CMB: +10 CMD: 22 | F: +11 R: +7 W: +9 | Init: +1 | ACP: -5 | Perc: +10, SM: +10 | Speed 30ft (walk/swim) | Darkvision 60 ft | Divine Bond: 1/1 | Smite Chaos 3/3 | Lay on Hands: 8/8 |Active conditions:

That's a good point, she really has been trying. Alseta doesn't seem like a stickler either- forgiveness and all that.

Speaking to Veleda is going to be... interesting.

Yeah, poor Ractus. Gets what he wants and is blinded shortly after. That was probably the permanent kind of blindess too, Orza didn't seem to be messing around. Have to get a cure for him somehow.

YES word cloud please. Whenever is fine, but we could separate it by arc over time.

I will bet you Rudabeh's left pauldron that the most used words, excluding pronouns and conjuctions, will be "Rudabeh", "paladin", and "undine", because I use them constantly.

Yeah, I might have to remove words....sorry for lack of post, have to decide what happens next. Lots of people in this room.

To be fair, this is probably not the first time Ractus has been magically blinded. He is an elf after all in a dangerous profession.

That's fair, this is probably the fifth or sixth time for Ractus at least.

Speaking of that, don't forget to update your NPC list for Goldwin being dead. Shame to forget that cool battle scene.

To be fair, as an old friend often says, my favorite scenes are people sitting around a table, plotting. The scene where Vader chokes a Moff is my favorite bit of Star Wars. I am getting a good deal of it in this game (save the occasional manticore).

Glad you are enjoying it.

Yeah sorry I've been behind on updating the NPC sheet what with the house move in and all that. I really enjoyed the barricade scene, what an excellent set piece! I kinda feel bad for instantly killing the co-gm's giant Goldwin with reach weapon, but he also got a good hit in.

Well I hope you're enjoying this scene of people sitting around a table beating the s%+* out of each other over a disagreement. Paladins don't get a force choke but this is close?

Spectacle is a good way of putting it. I have the feeling all this is going to crash and burn when she gets to Irovetti.

I just use a Google Spreadsheet for npc tracking. I'll link it later.

There is a link on her character profile, go under NPC connections.

In any case, spreadsheet updated. This is the link.

I didn't even know there was a character limit. Impressive and this is even before you leveled!

Also, Rennert's mother as a space cadet. Love it.

She is a space cadet! Also Rudabeh feels bad about a lot of things, but she has absolutely no remorse over having Dravos killed. Dude was a bonafide agent of chaos and she's glad he's dead (as am I).

I kind of fixed the character limit problem by changing some descriptions to links. I would have done her entire character sheet but the d20pfsrd website went down. I'll finish it later.

I'm going to have to think about what to do next here. Options:

1) Take Druxan to the First Palace and go in with him to appeal to Irovetti to get the hell out of Pitax.

I don't know what will happen here, but it would probably be more effective to go in person. I think worse case scenario here is Irovetti doesn't give a flying f!+# what she has to say and throws her in the dungeon, Samuel unites the rebels in her absence and they bust her out in the end, Irovetti gets hanged. I think Samuel (and everyone else in the rebels) is kind of done with Rudabeh's lawfulness, and she can tell, so maybe it would even be in their best interests.

2) Escort Druxan to the First Palace and have him deliver the message, then try to get Irovetti to get the hell out of Pitax

If Irovetti refuses to meet her, it's viva la Pitax time and the first palace gets a taste of rebel steel. At that point Irovetti will probably be put on trial and given all the crimes he's committed Rudabeh will probably be forced to execute him. Not good for her reputation. If he does meet with her, she'll probably get tossed in the dungeon.

3) Both of these plans come with an additional option; should they march on the palace now? Having a bunch of frothing rabble outside would certainly help Rudabeh's appeal and he should give up the throne, but then how would Irovetti and all his retainers escape? The crowd would probably tear him apart unless Rudabeh can stop them, and that's a fat maybe. It's shown the people believe in her, but the rebels are already sick of her s##!, when will the people get fed up too?

Even with Druxan I think this has a really low chance of success, but Rudabeh is crazy and stubborn and sees this as the only way to end this before the First Palace turns into a butcher's shop.

LN Female Undine (Outsider (Native) and Aquatic (Amphibious)) Paladin of Alseta (lvl 7) | HP: 56/56| AC: 12 (12 Tch 11 Ff) | CMB: +10 CMD: 22 | F: +11 R: +7 W: +9 | Init: +1 | ACP: -5 | Perc: +10, SM: +10 | Speed 30ft (walk/swim) | Darkvision 60 ft | Divine Bond: 1/1 | Smite Chaos 3/3 | Lay on Hands: 8/8 |Active conditions:

In hindsight I probably should have thought harder about what to do about Orza. I think I shunted the game down a path that isn't great for the rebels and isn't great for Pitax.

If Samuel loses hold of his coalition and takes over the government, the infighting is going to be bad for Pitax- it's going to be more unstable than when Iroveti was in charge. I don't know if this was all part of your plan, GM, but I think I was forced to choose between the stability of Pitax and Irovetti living? I chose the latter without really realizing it. I realize now there is definitely no way they would have let Irovetti survive.

Even if she can convince Irovetti to exile himself, she's not going to have made any friends among the rebels or the loaylists. Perhaps that's exactly as it should be, given she walks the path of neutrality

This isn't the best option but I think Rudabeh is going to go all in. Go with Druxan into the first palace to meet with Irovetti. Try to get him to leave. Sorry GM, I feel like I'm denying you an awesome scene of the rebel coalition attacking the First Palace, but this stupid and far-fetched plan is exactly what Rudabeh would do.

It amuses me that you think I have a plan.

There are lots of threads here, cross currents and personalities. Co-Gm and I spent a few hours yesterday gaming out various possibilities. We certainly don't cover everything, but it gives me an idea of what angles to cover.

You aren't depriving me of anything. This is a great game and Rudabeh is a great PC.

Also, there are one or two things Rudabeh does not know...yet at least, that may influence events in ways unforseen.

LN Female Undine (Outsider (Native) and Aquatic (Amphibious)) Paladin of Alseta (lvl 7) | HP: 56/56| AC: 12 (12 Tch 11 Ff) | CMB: +10 CMD: 22 | F: +11 R: +7 W: +9 | Init: +1 | ACP: -5 | Perc: +10, SM: +10 | Speed 30ft (walk/swim) | Darkvision 60 ft | Divine Bond: 1/1 | Smite Chaos 3/3 | Lay on Hands: 8/8 |Active conditions:

Hehehehe just let me believe you're the puppet master int he shadows, five steps ahead of the ignorant player...

More mysteries, eh? I'm all for it.

I was thinking about Viridia. Either she got herself captured and is being held hostage by Irovetti, or.... welll actually Idon't know what else. She doesn't seem patient or smart enough to be lying in wait to cause a prison break when the rebels attack.

Then there's Oskara... I think he's on the rebel's side, just waiting for the right moment to stab Irovetti in the back figuratively or litterly. I could be wrong and he's actually a just raking in the cash over everyone's heads.

That was a much more sober and somber post then I expected. Rudabeh takes her duty seriously.

She left her sword? *whistles*

Let's hope Dagen doesn't pawn it while you are gone.

I have plans for that sword, theatrically speaking. We'll see what happens with it. I figured Samuel needed something from her considering she's his connection to The People and he'll need to rally them if she doesn't return.

Which raises the question- does he really know what's good for them? Probably not, but Rudabeh kind of blew her chance to 100% support the rebels and help them form a government after they take out Irovetti after she resisted Orza. That's why I have the feeling this is going to be a middle-of-the road result... things are going to turn out just like Sarreh predicted I think.

In any case I know Dagen won't pawn her sword because he has a bag of holding full of rings that are each worth three times her sword!

You have plans for the sword? Rudabeh isn't allowed to have plans, she just blunders right into things. If she starts considering results, this entire game will become much harder to script.

Frankly, I don't see another option to resisting Orza unless you concede Druxan. And I don't see Rudabeh doing that, at least at this point. If it matters, you made the choices I expected.

Also, one doesn't get have bags of rings unless you are willing to pawn cheaper stuff!

I, her player, have plans for the sword that may be realized if the conditions are right by the end of this arc. It's a scene I've had in mind for a while. Worry not, Rudabeh will continue to stubbornly blunder into one crisis after another and talk/fight her way out of it.

S@+@, are they the kind of adventurers that strip all the armor and weapons off of foes to sell, dragging to back to town on a makeshift sled? If so then yeah, her sword is screwed.

Bah, your posts are so much better then mine. Sword symbolism is so cliched but SO good!

I also checked and saw all of your other games are still going! *grumbles and puts new game plans away*

Hehehehehe glad you caught the symbolism there. We're kind of at where I would hope we'd be- the rebels have a very powerful force behind them, and she's going to try and use it to like a diplomatic crowbar to force Irovetti out of place.

I DO have a plan for what to say to him/how to convince him, by the way, which I foreshadowed with the sword backstory...

Rudabeh must seem crazy to an adventurer, and b+#!@~! insane to a normal person, Being literally fearlesss might be helpful in her line of work but it's sub-optimal for self-preservation. Maybe I shouldn't take the Aura of Courage ability (immune to fear effect) so seriously, but it's kind of fun.

Yeahhh all my games are still going. Slowly, but still going. I'm not the kind ofperson that backs out of games, so they will continue to plod along.... sorry I said I'd do stuff then put in a condition that is taking forever. I kinda thought other people would have given up on some of these games but they're chunking along, and they're not bad. I particually enjoy my dwarven wizard.

I"m with Connacht on this one. You don't need to unblind their corpses to loot them.

Nah, you need to keep Dasur around. He is the reason we met!

Anyway letting you players meet was a bad idea. One on one I can win, but a group of you guys in the same thread? Perish the thought. I can only imagine how GMs handle actual parties, in person.

One Out of Many would be impossible to run in a live game.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

They don't. At least, not in any effective way. It really is crazy to deal with.

You're right, Dasur is the reason we met! I really enjoy playing him, and my other dwarf Vallen. I feel like they would really shine in a game like this where they could actually pursue their individual goals.

You're just lucky I don't have time to read all of your player's games or I'd be constantly joining forces with them to negotiate for better working conditions as president of the local Pathfinder Players Union #114.

Unrelated but I have been trying to fix Rudabeh's character sheet so it never goes over the character limit again and I found out some interesting things about her subtype: Outsider (Native)

1)She is not effected by spells that target humanoids (enlarge person, hold person, charm person, dominate person, basically anything that says "person" or the target is "humanoid")

2)Self-polymorph spells such as Altar Self and the like can only change her into different types of native outsiders OR true outsiders (such as elementals, angels, etc), instead of humanoids or animals

3)This one is the best: She CAN be summoned and bound by Planar Ally (only by a priest of Alseta for Ally), Planar Binding, or Gate spells if requested by name.

So if you decide Nubauch tries to use planar binding on her one day as part of some hair-brained adventurer scheme, or because he wants to talk to her and a Sending just isn't good enough, I will absolutely laugh my ass off, GM.

I got curious and found another spell that will work on Rudabeh- Planar Inquiry. Slightly less intrusive.

Even druids can cast that one!

Speaking of druid spells Cyclic Reincarnation is really neat.
