This is a prime opportunity for Cael to finally show up. I see a bow crit in the critter's face coming. :)

Male Human Cleric / 1st Level

Cain rolls his eyes, then steps behind Cael and levels his crossbow over Cael's shoulder. Big target, but then he has to try to not hit Edi. "Stop breathing Cael, it's messing with my aim." Cain says just before firing.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 +size and other -whatever else.
1d8 ⇒ 5

"Ah thanks, you can breath again for a while.... Unless of course, you'd rather not."

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

now if i can just not get eaten...... but no i am just perception boy can't buy a good attack roll especially since shooting in to melee.... but will try..... once again if don't get eaten first.

Just FYI, size modifiers are added into a creatures AC already. You actually had -4 for firing into melee and that was it. Nice shot. :)

The bolt from Cain's crossbow thuds into the beast's body, eliciting another thrashing that sends ichor from it's already bleeding body flying once more.

Wounded, but enraged, the beast fights back against the target enraging it the most. Edi.

A long whip like tail flies past, missing Edi but slapping across the wall and causing both Adriana and Cael to duck. The blow seems only meant to distract, however, as the head darts in, pincers crushing against Edi's sides in a brutal attack.

Edi takes 18. If he's still up, he needs to make a Fort save.

Beast has taken 22 so far.

Male Human Cavalier 2

Perhaps against better judgment, Acalon decides to try going back to the ledge to help fight.

Climb: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

Reacts without thinking much and grabs his bow instead of the sword for close quarters after only a seconds hesitation when he realizes what he has done he yells in frustration and lets an arrow fly at the creature only feet away from him.

Flying arrows:

Hit:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 +2 if human +1 if inside of 30 ft range
Dmg:1d8 ⇒ 7 +2 if human +1 if inside of 30 ft range x3 crit

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

Edi:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 DC 15?

Red sees the attack on Edi out of the corner of his eye, while he's focusing on his eagle. The blow seems to send a shockwave through Red as well, causing him to double over as though he just received a steel gauntlet to the gut. The Eidilon lets out a deafening shriek, blood and guts flying in all directions, and falls to the ground limp.

Edi is at -9 hp, 4 rounds to death, 11 hp total - 2 from the last fight. As a summoned being, does he stay summoned until death, or does he vanish at 0?, something for the GM to ponder. There's nothing Red can do to keep him standing though, Red doesn't have enough HP to transfer in order to save him from THAT!

Red recovers from the experience, and screams out, "And NOW should we run?!"

All summoned creatures vanish at 0 hp.

where we at now?

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

So scratch "falls to the ground limp" and replace with "vanishes in a flash of light".

New round, Edi's dead, so Adriana is up

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

did i hit? did acalon make it back to solid ground? how long until i am dead :P

Male Human Cleric / 1st Level

My 19 was a hit, so your 20 should be a hit.
And Allan. You expect one of us to survive something like that?

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

Your mighty powers of healing will save us!

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

Giant Whiptail Centipede: bite: +4, 2d6+7 damage, and poison... and Edi took 18 pts... dang nice roll there Allan. I do believe our squishy little 10 hp bodies should run like HELL.

Firstly, if you could refrain from looking up the monsters you're fighting, I'd appreciate it. :) Especially since this monster is not in the standard bestiary which means you're looking at the campaign book. Naughty Naughty. :)

With a mighty heave, Acalon makes his way at all speed back to the ledge he had left. Dipping under a snap of the giant beast's jaws, he takes up a position where Edi had so recently been.

That's a move action, you still have another move action (such as redying your shield) or an attack to make.

Cael's arrows zips in to find its mark alongside Cain's bolt, tearing through the centipede to the fetching. It reels back against the opposite wall for a moment, it's legs clacking and clicking over it's many wounds as greenish fluid oozes out.

Adriana, seeing that Acalon is safe again, reaches into her satchel and pulls out another scroll, going through the same process as before as the scroll burns to ash. Just before the fire leaps from her fingers, a small object flies past her head, sinking into the beast to draw another small line of ichor. Glancing back with a perturbed look on her face, she spots the kobold behind her, a very satisfied expression on his face as he looks about for another dagger to throw. With a small smile she lets loose the fire to fill the area once more.

1d4 ⇒ 3 damage

Caught against the back wall, already nursing severe wounds, the centipede takes the brunt of the blast of fire, letting out a high pitched shriek as it twists in the flames.

Creature has taken 34 so far.

Male Human Cavalier 2

As Acalon ducks under the beast's jaws he ignores Red's yelling and pulls out his shield and flail, ready to attack the monster.

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

In my defense the creature is listed in the Pathfinder OGC, I don't have the campaign book, or the Bestiary for that matter. Though I question the longevity of my character now.

The Eagle continues unabated (full attack):
beak: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 talon1:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 talon2:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
beak: 1d4 ⇒ 2 talon1:1d4 ⇒ 3 talon2:1d4 ⇒ 1

Red, recovering from his companion's sudden departure, looks carefully at what Adriana is doing. He thinks to himself for a second, then decides to follow suit. He squeezes in next to Adriana, points one finger at the beastie, and lets out a "pechu" sound. A bolt of acid flies at the centipede (whether it hits or not is questionable).
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8, acid splash 1d3 ⇒ 3

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

waiting on cain and the evil thing.... baaa this is why we have cain the great and mighty cleric to save us poor squishy things.... though have to admit edi's fate is rather sobering. Hopefully he will go for the tin can next :D sorry acalon!

Male Human Cleric / 1st Level

Well, since so far no one has taken any damage that he could actually do anything about, Cain takes out his mace and makes a distractionary attack to try and throw off the creatures aim. Maybe Acalon won't die so messily.

1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11

Still... Looking up the creature you're fighting, or are about to fight, is bad form. There's a reason for GM screens after all. :)

The eagle, ignored by the creature to this point, wings in once again for another attack, it's beak and claws straining to reach any vital areas. It has far better luck with the talons than it's beak, tearing open gashes around the thing's face.

The centipede continues to thrash, assailed on all sides by too many foes. As Red's glob of Acid flies into it's face, it flings itself one more time, ichor splashing everywhere, then collapses down into the pit to crash amongst the roots at its base.

Female Human Witch 1 (Favored Class Witch)

Pushing herself back from the edge, Adriana nearly collides into Red behind her as she tries to avoid the spray of centipede blood. Regaining her footing she grimaces, flicking green from her fingers before wiping them over her dress which causes all the gunk to fall off of it and onto the floor to seep down into the chasm. The spell does little to clean her hair or arms, which she looks at in disgust.

A semblance of dignity restored, she looks across to Acalon. Seeing him safe and sound she gives a short nod before making her way back through the press of people to the back.

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

Pulls back another arrow aiming down into the pit trying to see what is going on "Think it's dead"? He glances around at everyone else but keeps the arrow trained on the twitching body. "Hey Red, Edi be ok after that nasty bite? Finally as the body stops moving as much he relaxes wiping some greenish gore from one arm and his side where it has splashed. he eases back on the draw of his bow but doesn't put it away. "So we all ok to try this crossing again?"

Ya big evil thing was enough for me along with the pic of the centipede to get accost that we were in trouble. never look up stats it tells you how likely you are to die :P

Male Human Cleric / 1st Level

Somehow I think we were supposed to die. That was an increadible round of good dice for us. Now, who feels invincible? Let's go take on a demi-god or something.

Cain simply closes his eyes and gets soaked as he is far too close to avoid the goo. He then scrapes off his face and sighs, "Where is a good lake when you need one."

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

Cue "Legend of the noob that killed the level 50", yeah not all of us should have lived. Kind of Allan to pick on the one that can't die.

Red seems paralyzed, arm still outstretched towards where the monster was. Green gore dripping from the end of his finger (and many other places), he suddenly breaks his paralysis with a scream, "MONSTER! RUN!" He turns to run, some gore from his hand slinging into his face, this seems to break him fully out of his trance. He flails trying to get the mess off of him, before realizing it's pretty useless. He turns and looks at his green dripping companions, and takes a silent head count. He sighs with relief as he slumps against the cave wall. Cael's question finally registers, "Edi will be back tomorrow, I wish we could all return to our plane and heal like he does."

He looks at the rest of the group, "The Mites must procreate like bunnies to keep that monstrosity fed. I wonder what we'll find on the other side of the cavern."

Male Human Cavalier 2

Acalon calmly wipes the monster goo from his face and puts his shield away again. Heading back over to the root bridge he says "Only one way to find out what's over there. Might as well get crossing. Again."

Actually, it wasn't kindness. Edi did the most damage. Being of animal inteligence, it attacked the biggest seeming threat. However, I could point out that the thing had an AC of 11. So you really didn't need to get that lucky to hit. Even less with a touch attack as it only had a touch AC of 4. Really the only thing it had going for it was the damage. It's To Hit wasn't even that good. Would have had a really hard time hitting Acalon at all.

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

A cramped, squishy, side of a barn to hit, not bad, just glad we had a sacrificial lamb... err eidilon, for those massive 2d6 mandibles, and gratefully it only had one primary attack per round. I will note one thing, the OGC made it seem a lot more dangerous (higher AC, lots of HPs).

Based on this fight, I'm with Cain, let's go find some more big squishy things to cram in a hole and beat on. We just might make it to 2nd level after that. ;-)

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

"Yeah, we should probably get on with it, just maybe we'll find some water to wash up, though I doubt it will be a lake."

As he says this Red starts to make his way across:
climb:1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 2 - 1 = 14 (+dex -armor)

Red doesn't make a complete fool of himself, but American Gladiator he is not.

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

Runs his hands through gore stained hair. "I hope we don't see anything else like that or we will be missing Edi a lot. Gotta admit I really like having him around."

He wipes his hands clean while watching Red and Acalon cross and carefully follows.

climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

trust the gm lol.... we don't have a year on our characters yet so he doesn't want to kill us yet give it a couple more months.

Climb is actually str but it doesn't matter, you still make it.

The trek over the chasm goes much better, now that there is no giant insect to harass you on your way over. The celebration on the other side is short lived, however. The tunnel on the other side is short, opening up after only a score of feet into another large but low cielinged room.

A room crammed with mites.

Rows of wooden pegs line the earthen walls, some hung with tiny, filthy cloaks. In the center of the room stands a rickety table held together with twine, covered with a filthy red checked tablecloth and heaped with mounds of dirt and twigs and gravel, apparently arranged to form some sort of map. Sitting at the edge of the map, weighing down a scrap of paper, is a bloodstained ivory statuette of what looks like a crouching reptilian devil. A bulging burlap sack sits under the table.

Five mites stand ready in this room, obviously waiting for the intruders to make it this far. However, dominating over all of them is a gap toothed mite atop what can only be described as a gigantic tick.

Even as the last of the party are making their way over the chasm, the mites charge in to attack.

Everyone is across the gap, Acalon has his shield back out and all other weapons are readied. No surprise. Init follows.

Acalon, Cael, Red, Mites, Cain, Adriana, Tick Mite

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

"Here they come!" Cael yells as he raises his bow arrow in place. "Let me get a shot off! Hoping that no-one runs out in front of him he tries for a clear shot at the mite riding the bug.

Flying arrows:

Hit:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 +2 if human +1 if inside of 30 ft range
Dmg:1d8 ⇒ 3 +2 if human +1 if inside of 30 ft range

Male Human Cavalier 2

Quickly surveying the field (or cave, as it were), Acalon charges and swings at the gigantic tick.

To hit:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Yeah, OK, the damage roll probably isn't necessary. Just in case the thing's AC really sucks, though....

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

Upon seeing the hideous tick-think, Red loudly blurts out, "GAH! And I thought the centipede looked bad!"

Red pauses for a moment, as though he was trying to remember something, "RIGHT... no Edi..." Red grumbles out loud.

He moves to his right, so the table is between him and the mites. He draws on Edi's absent energy, and summons an Eagle next to the most southern mite.

Eagle full attack with smite:

beak:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
talon1:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
talon2:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

beak:1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
talon1:1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
talon2:1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Cael's arrow flies just a bit shy of its mark, dodged by the mite clinging to the tick's back. Likewise, Acalon's swing with his flail rebounds off of the hard chitin of the tick, his first failed attack since entering the cave.

Eagle takes 1 damage

Red has a bit more luck, his eagle burying it's target in a flurry of feathers beak and talons, despite taking a cut along one side in the process.

The remaining mites take up their side of the battle, two moving to attack Acalon while the others mutter softly in that unnerving chant. Unfortunately those moving to intercept Acalon swing rather futily at the armored knight. They can only hope that their kin have better luck.

Acalon, two Will saves.
I'll update the map as soon as I can. Just in case anyone is decreasing their attack bonus for the cramped condition. Please don't, I'm raising the AC. Don't want you to get the penalty twice. :)

Male Human Cavalier 2

Will save:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Will save:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Ouch. This isn't going to be good....

Male Human Cleric / 1st Level

is waiting for the results of the saves before going.

Acalon, you're Shaken for 1 min. –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

Phew, it could be worse, it wasn't "Acalon you go running in terror out of the room and right off the cliff..."

Red the Horse Boy wrote:

It very nearly was. :)

Male Human Cleric / 1st Level

Cain sees Acalon's resolve waivering and calls out to him in the voice of King Cashew. "They are just animals!! Spit them and serve them for supper!"

I think that should counter the spell personally. :-)

Cain' wrote:

Are you keeping track of how many times you're doing this?

Female Human Witch 1 (Favored Class Witch)

Adriana squeezes through after Red, taking a spot with her back to the wall and unleashing yet another spay of fire at the clustered mites, managing to catch the giant tick in the flames as well. One of the mites falls to the onslaught, while another is able to dive down fast enough to avoid most of it. The mite riding the tick takes only minor burns as his mount absorbs the brunt.

One mite down, the mounted mite has 1 damage, the tick has 3 damage, and the closest mite to the south has 1 damage.

The mite riding the tick can do little more than hold on and shout as the beast strikes out at the nearest target, biting down on Acalon with bloodstained teeth. The blow is immense, leaving a wound pouring blood through torn armor.

Acalon takes 10 damage.

Acalon, Cael, and Red go.

male half elf Ranger lvl 2(prefered class) /sorcerer lvl0 (prefered class) xp2225

depending on what Acalon does. If the tick goes down to his attack will shift fire to the uninjured mite on the wall, if the tick is still standing when my its my turn will fire into it

Taking a quick step south to try for a better angle to the battle Cael exclaims "Really starting to hate BUGS!"

He levels his bow again and lets fly another arrow.

Flying arrows:

Hit:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 +2 if human +1 if inside of 30 ft range
Dmg:1d8 ⇒ 2 +2 if human +1 if inside of 30 ft range

Dang i need more damage.....

Male Human Summoner 2 (Pref Class +2 sp)

Red has a sudden flash back of Edi as he sees the horrible creature take a bite out of Acalon. "ACALON! Hang in there! CAIN! Mop and Bucket!"

The Eagle has 1 damage, so it's still up, and it doesn't appear the mites nearest it moved at all, so it resumes its righteous wrath (though no smite now)

Eagle full attack:

beak:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
talon1:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
talon2:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

beak:1d4 ⇒ 1
talon1:1d4 ⇒ 1
talon2:1d4 ⇒ 3
Cael I feel your pain on damage, blech

Red turns his attention towards the big bug, and seeing Cael having trouble getting an arrow on it, goes for the spell-thing again:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 1d3 ⇒ 3
GAH! I hope it's touch AC is as bad as the last over-grown bug

Male Human Cavalier 2

Despite his wounds, Acalon manages to stay up and level another swing at the tick.

To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Male Human Cleric / 1st Level

Yes, Allan, I am keeping track. Now I must wait for the mites to go.

Cael's arrow and Acalon's flail make nearly simultaneous impacts into the body of the tick, sheering through plates of armor and causing it to stumble slightly, shaking it's rider about like a doll. Meanwhile, Red's glob of acid narrowly misses, flying into the wall at the far side of the room.

Meanwhile the eagle streaks in at a new victim, dodging a knife to attack with talon and beak. Unfortunately, though the blows look as though they should have done more damage, only one new wound opens.

Meanwhile the mites move forward, one going for Red, while the other comes around the table towards Adriana.

While all three of them attack with their tiny daggers, only Red suffers a scratch.

Tick has taken 13, mite riding it has taken 1, mite down below being attacked by the eagle has taken 2.

Red takes 1.
