With the heart of the Stolen Lands explored and the bandits who ruled there scattered, the long-contested realm finally lies open for pioneers and settlers to stake their claims.:
Amid the rush of opportunistic travelers, the PCs find themselves stewards over a new domain, tasked with the responsibility of guiding and guarding a fledgling nation struggling to grow upon a treacherous borderland. Yet the threats to this new nation quickly prove themselves greater than mere bandits and wild beasts, as the monstrous natives of the hills and forests rampage forth to slaughter all who have trespassed upon their territory. Can the PCs hold the land they’ve fought so hard to explore and tame? Or will their legend be just one more lost to the fangs of the Stolen Lands?

"Eh? Who's Nanny Bad-Eye? Your grandma?"

"Um. No." Bronwyn says going a bit pale and quite silent.

"Nanny Bad-Eye, the Angry Hag. She has a real name but folks don't say it aloud. They call her "Bad-Eye" for her symbol. She's a black-hearted goddess of witches, chaos and spite in the River Kingdoms. They say her followers, the Black Sisters, are all a bunch of hideous hags and harlots who go around swapping babies, killing calves, curdling milk and such. Nobody likes them of course, but nobody challenges them too much either lest they get the evil eye." Says Ilse as if reading from a almanac.

"Some people say that the Kingdoms of the River are so temporary because of the discord the faith engenders in people." Adds Vekkel. "They say that's what happened to the kingdom of Heibarr, sometime ago."

"There was even an old castle on the banks of the Tuskwater. They say the place was the home of a good and wise king way back when until Nanny Bad-Eye cast her gaze upon them and everyone in place fell into fighting amongst themselves until they all killed each other." Adds Ilse in a gush.

"That's enough of that Ilse. You'll be giving everyone nightmares." Vekkel says.

"Sorry papa."

"Its okay, but we should get going." Vekkel says and gets ready to leave.

Huh, there's always someone. The Stag Lord and now this Bad-Eye.

"Terrible...Well, that killed the mood." Scarlet tries to laugh. "Anyway, I guess it's bedtime for you right? Stay safe."

Dusk turns to night. The stars come out. Locals retire to their homes or the nearer homes of their friends. The merchants and travelers pull out their rolls, and slowly things quiet down.

"Did any of you need anything?" Naleksa asks.

"Look at the time. Why with helping to prepare the log and all I- it didn't even occur to me how late it was getting." Svetlana says.

"We'll have ta stay the night Ma'am. You want I should have a word with Renault?" Asks Paun soaking from a dip in the dunking tank. (A strangely popular event this evening.)

"No. Oleg would never let me hear the end of it. We'll just have to make do until morning. See if anyone has any spare bedding."

"'Bedding' Ma'am?" Asks Paun.

"Quite a long day for you I suppose, Alia was it?" Says Renualt through a haze of mild drunkenness. "You should come back to the house. We could clear a room for you. Maybe a night cap? I would love to hear more of your tale."

"We'll be breaking camp early tomorrow Cos. Nothing of any matter left to hunt it seems."

From a nearby hilltop.

"The stars in this land are quite beautiful." Says Argentov, laying on the bare grass, fingers locked beneath his head, staring skyward.

Assuming after Posh and Celeyne converse with Fauxish...

Posh meets up with Scarlet and Alia and at the mention of a Hag Posh pauses for a moment and goes a little pale.

Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

"A Hag, you say? I doubt she'd trouble us if we simply stay out of her way." Posh tails off for a moment "Did you catch her name?"

Sense Motive DC 25:

Something about the mention of this Hag appears to have deeply affected Posh that it has frozen him still where as normally he's always moving around and attempting to keep himself pre-occupied he has for some reason frozen solid and taken quite a interest in the situation.

Zokon:

Black Sisters They must be pretty secretive.

Tuskwater It's that really big lake that marks one edge of the region you are to explore.

Heibarr (technically this is more of a knowledge (history) check - possibly (local). You only get to know this vague outline because of the central character involved in the story--the Lord Mayor) It's an old story about a prosperous town located on both banks of the Sellen. At some point the reigning Mayor decided to build a toll gate underneath the bridge in order to tax river traffic in contravention of the third of the River Freedoms. There was a big revolt and the place fell apart. Most folk take the tale of the place as a warning about breaching the Six River Freedoms.

Numalar Auritonius wrote:

You can but it would yield only very general information on the topic of the monstrous humanoid subspecies with a knowledge (nature) check. Knowledge (arcane) might help in relation to arcane symbols and perhaps allow you to learn more about Nanny or her cult via their symbology.

Others can also research or remember these facts as well.

Numalar Local witch cultists favor small shrines of simple piled stones ("witchscat" or "hagscat"). Some of these piles have stones of cats-eye, from which (it is rumored) the Black Sisters and their ilk peer.

Celyne Magical creatures that inhabit an often-monstrous, female, humanoid form. They come in a variety of forms and temperaments based upon environment (compare the flue hags who live in the smokestacks of Westcrown to the cold and majestic winter hags of Irrisen). All of them are evil.

Are the "witchscat" shrines similar to the strange pile of stones we found when escorting the prisoners back to Oleg's?

No, that was a full-fledged (though ancient and worn) stone megalith circle. The thing described above is a knee-high pile of fist-sized, river stones occasionally topped by a cats-eye stone.

Already made rolls for this in this post so I assume I am participating in the production. Will jump in if any RP in particular is directed at or involves me.

"Can't say I've ever heard the name." Esme whispers pulling the supposedly unbated and envenomed rapier out from under Numalar's arm as a gout of red handkerchief erupts from a point very near the blow.

"Now say: 'I am justly kill'd with my own treachery.' And project a bit more this time. She whispers as Numalar lays dying.

The morning matinee for the kids is going really well.

Numalar will turn his face away from the crowd for a moment, enough time to mutter a few words to himself. Blood begins to run down his side, though the color is not quite right for it to be real blood.

Casting SLA prestidigitation to create the fake blood.

He then collapses onto the stage.

The last day of the Flower Festival is capped off with another pork feast and the unveiling of Fusti Isben's famous hog's head cheese.

There is an unspoken tension in the crowd the later it gets--anticipation. Wives and their husbands seem unusually quiet. Children grow quiet as well. The young matinee crowds out front of Esme's mobile stage give way to a rougher looking testosterone filled group of merchants and farmers and their hands.

"Are you sure you want to go through with this?" Esme says vaguely twirling her non-prop at the other performers backstage. She takes a peek at the crowd. "Oh look Celyne and Zokon are right out front next to Mr. Renault."

Earlier between his turns on stage Numalar overhears a number of traveling merchants discussing their travels.

"Too bad that the Nettle's Crossing ferry is busted. It's a devil to get around the Shrike." Says one man with a parrot on his head.

"Aye, *koff, koff* they say bandits did it. Burned the place to the ground with old Nettles in it. *koff, koff* They say he haunts the place now drownin' folks who dare try crossin'. *koff, spit*" Says the meat kabob man between bad phlegmy coughs.

Who knows, I may need to change careers at some time...an uncle of mine took an arrow to the knee and had to stop adventuring for good...he's a watchman now-", stopping her nervous outburst, Alia peeks past Esme at the gathered crowd, swallowing audibly, then asking with an insecure voice "...and you are certain the topless scene won't...upset them?", while slightly brushing over the tear-away prop-top, the only thing covering her upper half Alia was wearing..."I don't want Larimus to suffer a heart attack...he seemed....agitated, yesterday-"

"Honestly, I'm not the social type...is what I would usually say. But these last couple of days have been very entertaining. Had you been your other character Esme would say something about Scarlet presenting like a club-footed mandrill and how she couldn't possibly go on stage with you because of her high standards. But...

"Wow... You- you make me want to join Alia's team." Esme says in wide-eyed wonder.

He turns to Mr Renault "Nettles crossing burnt? Where is that please, sounds like bandits to investiate?"

Actually she's thinking of your failed innuendo attempt of the night before.

"Really? Cor, I didn't think it worked like that. So like anyone can--you know--join?" She says twisting one of her pig-tails introspectively.

I'll wrap this later this evening--I'm off work tonight. Please take a moment and consider your future explorer's path through the Greenbelt. Oh, I am fully aware Esme was thinking of the Innuendo. It's why I made certain to point out what Alia thinks this is about. I don't think I'm aware of the failed message, am I?
"Yeah, it's really that simple. I met Scarlet here in a bar, we had a drink or two, and the next morning we've been travelling together. Give it a thought. Travelling alone in these lands is dangerous, and it must get lonely too, when you make camp for the night!", Alia offers with a open smile, unaware of the unintended double entendre.
