Nylithati Will: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 2 = 17 -- pass

"Your pathetic goddess is weak!" Nylithati says as the song of Desna once again fills the chamber, but there is nonetheless strain in her expression as she says it.
The effect heals Urza, Mahjik, and Pezock.

Urza once again fires off his spell, and this time, the ray catches Nylithati right in the side of the head. She hisses in pain.
Urza will have to wait until next round to move (or move right away), as readying an action (even just a move action) is a standard action, and he already used that up to cast the spell.

To the north, the paralysis on Makoa vanishes. He immediately turns on the ghoul with him (and luckily, the time spent paralyzed was just enough time for him to "rest" from raging).

Makoa bite on ghoul #8, Power Attack, rage: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 1 = 11 -- miss
4/7 rage rounds used.

Unfortunately, he is still a bit disorientated from the paralysis and he bites only air.

ROUND 9

Active Magical Effects:
Mage armour (Urza, Mahjik, Pezock)
Protection from evil (Makoa)
Paralysis (Mahjik) -- will end in round 11 on Nylithati's turn

As Mahjik remains paralyzed, Nylithati cries out. "Now feel the bite of my god!" As the chamber fills again with the sound of slithering snakes, Nylithati's wounds start to close over.

Nylithati channel negative energy: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7
Douena Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 -- fail
Lorenz Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 -- pass
Mahjik Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 -- pass
Urza Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 -- pass
Pezock Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 -- fail
Lorenz, Mahjik, and Urza take 3 points each. Douena and Pezock take 7 points of damage.

Next Up: Lorenz, Ghoul #8, Pezock, Douena, Urza, Makoa, Mahjik, Nylithati.

Male Human (Andoran) Fighter Lvl 5

"I know what it's like to be on Desna's bad side...believe me, crazy lady, you don't want her as an enemy." Lorenz says, gritting his teeth against the negative energy pouring out of the creature.

He steps a little closer as he draws two more arrows and fires them at the terrible woman.

Point Blank Rapid Shot 1: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Point Blank Rapid Shot 2: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Lorenz sighs as the first arrow goes wild. "Damn it, Desna, I'm only trying to help!" As if to show the Goddess understood, the second arrow stays true.

Lorenz Aeryson wrote:

By "steps a little closer", I'm assuming you mean a 5-ft step. It'll bring him in range of Douena's channel energy. If I'm wrong, just let me know and I'll move him back.

Lorenz's second arrow slams right into Nylithati's chest. She stumbles momentarily.

To the north, ghoul #8 hisses and attacks Makoa.

Ghoul #8 bite on Makoa: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 -- miss
Ghoul #8 claw 1 on Makoa: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Ghoul #8 claw 2 on Makoa: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 -- miss
Makoa Fortitude vs. paralysis: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 -- pass

One claw slices nastily down over Makoa's ear and into his shoulder.

"Your god keeps biting me and it hasn't stopped me yet!" Pezock cries as he launches another attack.

Pezock sawtooth sabre on Nylithati: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 -- miss
Pezock bite on Nylithati: 1d20 ⇒ 13 -- miss

Unfortunately, Nylithati avoids him with little difficulty.

Next Up: Douena, Urza, Makoa, Mahjik, Nylithati, Lorenz, Ghoul #8, Pezock.

Douena dashes in between Pezock and Lorenz. "Show her how 'weak' Desna is, Pezock!" she says, touching his back and imparting a bit of luck. Move to AA 22; Bit of Luck on Pezock

Was going to give it to you, Lorenz, but if he gets hit again this round, it'll give him 2 chances to save vs. paralysis.

Yep, the five foot step was what I planned. Sorry I forgot to ooc it in specificity. Here's Lorenz's action for the next round (assuming nothing prevents it.

Lorenz smiles as his last attack strikes the evil creature hard. "For Desna!"

Point Blank Rapid Shot 1: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 10

No problem, Douena. Pezock's in the hot spot.

Slowly - ahem - pecking away at her. Nice.

Round 10, Initiative 22
AC ??; HP 2/32

Is that Makao I hear? Irori, I've not had chance to ask much yet - I'm still searching for my path to you, but I am ready if it needs to be. But my companions, I ask you guide their hands and minds. Steady their hearts.

Pezock cackles with glee as Desna's luck fills him.

Urza fires off one last shot, which unfortunately misses again. Nylithati isn't oblivious to it this time, however, and you think you notice her cringe a little as the beam goes past her. Urza heads north into a large sea cave and then the next passage. He gets just far enough to notice Makoa around the next corner. It is quite apparent that Makoa is no longer paralyzed as he bites at his opponent.

Makoa bite on ghoul #8, Power Attack, Rage: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 - 1 = 15 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 2 = 13
5/7 rounds of rage used.

Although Urza can't yet see Makoa's opponent, he does hear the sound of shattering bones as Makoa rips apart the ghouls neck. Makoa turns around. "It's down," he says to Urza. "Back to the others." He moves down the passage (to W 19).

ROUND 10

Active Magical Effects:
Mage armour (Urza, Mahjik, Pezock)
Protection from evil (Makoa)
Paralysis (Mahjik) -- will end in round 11 on Nylithati's turn

Nylithati concentration to cast defensively: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

There is clear desperation in Nylithati's eyes as she realizes the battle is turning against her. With her eyes carefully watching Pezock, she raises her arms and calls out, "Lord, hide me from these worms!" Mist begins to spray out from her hands, spreading out through the cavern and impairing vision. She completely vanishes from Douena's and Lorenz's sights, and Pezock and Mahjik can only just notice her outline. She immediately darts away.

"Oh no you don't!" Pezock cries and swings at her as she goes.

Pezock sawtooth sabre AoO on Nylithati: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 -- miss
Pezock sawtooth sabre reroll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 -- miss
Miss chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 15 -- definite miss

"Blast!" Pezock yells as his swing is not wide enough to catch her escaping form.

Nylithati disappears from Pezock's and Mahjik's sight, but a split second later, everyone in the cavern hears a hiss from her, as she runs right towards Makoa.

Makoa bite AoO on Nylithati, Power Attack, rage: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 - 1 = 25 -- hit
Miss chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 7 -- miss

She pulls away from Makoa to somewhere in the mist.

Douena Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Lorenz Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Mahjik Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Makoa Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 + 8 smell
Pezock Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Nylithati Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Douena and Mahjik are quite certain they can hear her somewhere near the west wall of the cavern. Makoa can smell her there.

Next Up: Lorenz, Pezock, Douena, Urza, Makoa, Mahjik, Nylithati.

Map Updated

Mirror image has a range of personal, so Urza can only use it on himself. Makoa doesn't have Use Magic Device so can't try to use the wand himself.

I should have known that.

Urza uses the Wand of Mirror Image and moves into the fog "It's time to hunt. Let's find her. Let's kill her." He moves to Y20 and unsheathes his claws.

As Joana pointed out in the OOC thread, Pezock should have gotten a reroll on his Perception check:

Pezock Perception reroll: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Heh, marginally better, but not high enough for him to hear Nylithati.

Male Human (Andoran) Fighter Lvl 5

Lorenz curses and drops his bow, drawing his scimitar as he stumbles off into the mist, trying to remember where Makoa had been.

Sorry, I don't have access to the map from my phone. Feel free to move him where you like.

Lorenz Aeryson wrote:

So be it. Mwahaha... erm... ahem.

Lorenz easily finds his way to Makoa, and realizes that Nylithati must have retreated from Makoa's position. He, too, pulls back away, using the cavern wall as a reference and quickly stumbles on Nylithati hiding in the mists. He reaches Y19. Nylithati is in Z18. Lorenz has move exactly 30 ft so can still attack her.

Lorenz scimitar on Nylithati: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 -- miss
Miss chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 86

Nylithati easily ducks away from his swipe. "She's here!" Lorenz calls. I assume he'd call to the others, at any rate. :)

Following Lorenz's voice, Pezock moves directly towards Nylithati. As soon as he spots her, he swings at her.

Pezock sawtooth sabre on Nylithati: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 -- hit
Pezock sawtooth sabre reroll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 -- hit
Miss chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 97
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

"No escape, cowardly beast!" Pezock yells as his blade cuts into Nylithati's flesh. She roars in pain.

Next Up: Douena, Urza, Makoa, Mahjik, Nylithati, Lorenz, Pezock.

Female Gnome Cleric 4/ Rogue (burglar) 3

Douena steps toward the sound of battle and immediately sees Pezock's feathery shape looming out of the mist in front of her. She stops and holds up her butterfly. "I may not be able to see you, but Desna can!" she shouts triumphantly. 5-foot-step to AA 20; Channel Positive Energy 1d6 ⇒ 6

Nylithati Will: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 = 27 -- pass

Nylithati screams as the song of Desna reverberates around the chamber once more. Mahjik, Lorenz, Pezock, and Douena benefit from its healing energies.

Urza strides into the mist just too late to benefit from the channeled energy, but he quickly locates Lorenz and Pezock. Although he can't yet see Nylithati, he can see where Lorenz and Pezock are attacking. Makoa follows him and moves past him (reaching AA19). Once he has Nylithati in his sight, he attacks.

Makoa bite on Nylithati, Power Attack, rage: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 - 1 = 7 -- miss
Miss chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 30
6/7 rounds of rage used.

Unfortunately, Nylithati easily avoids him.

ROUND 11

Active Magical Effects:
Mage armour (Urza, Mahjik, Pezock)
Protection from evil (Makoa)
Paralysis (Mahjik) -- will end on Nylithati's turn
Obscuring mist

Mahjik feels his muscles loosen (unfortunately, just a bit late for Mahjik to act this round) just as Nylithati cries, "Ydersius! Save me!" Once more, you feel the bites of tiny snakes. Nylithati relaxes a little as some of her wounds close over.

Nylithati channel negative energy: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8
Douena Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 -- fail
Lorenz Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 -- pass

Makoa Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 -- pass
Urza Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 -- pass
Pezock Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 -- pass
Douena takes the full 8 points of damage. Everyone else takes only 4.

I'll presume Lorenz continues to attack...
Lorenz scimitar on Nylithati: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 -- hit
Miss chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 26
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Lorenz swings again at her and this time, Nylithati is not able to move aside quickly enough. His sword slices off a chunk of her upper arm.

Pezock shifts his position slightly (5-ft step to AA 18) and attacks.

Pezock sawtooth sabre on Nylithati: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 -- miss
Miss chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 26
Pezock bite on Nylithati: 1d20 ⇒ 8 -- miss
Miss chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 10 -- still miss

Nylithati dodges each of his attacks, however.

Next Up: Douena, Urza, Makoa, Mahjik, Nylithati, Lorenz, Pezock.

Douena grits her teeth against the biting energy and reaches out to touch the nearest ally. "Makoa! Bite her! We've got her; we have to end this now!" Do I have to roll a miss chance for a touch? 1d100 ⇒ 13 Dang it! If she fails to touch Makoa, I don't think her SLA gets used; she has to touch someone for it to "go off." So hopefully, while she might have wasted her round, she hasn't lost a Bit of Luck use.

I would rule that she doesn't need to make a miss chance roll since she doesn't need to make a hit roll to touch a willing target. Technically, according to the Core Rulebook page 197, "if the attacker hits, the defender must make a miss chance d% roll to avoid being struck" [emphasis mine]. I've never seen anyone actually do it that way (everyone always has the attacker roll the miss chance), but it says to me that if the defender doesn't mind being hit, then no miss chance roll is necessary.

In short, Douena successfully uses bit of luck on Makoa. :)

Makoa bite reroll: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 - 1 = 10 -- miss
Miss chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 17 -- miss
7/7 rage rounds used.

Makoa tries to bite at Nylithati as she dodges away from Urza's attacks. He, too, almost gets her, but just ends up biting mist.

Round 12, Initiative 22
AC 21; HP 4/32

Mahjik bursts back into action, his moves are swift as he closes in on the group to Z20. "It is good that you like your god so much, you'll meet him soon," Mahjik grins at the ghoul as he tucks in his arms and makes little flapping moves with his hands, rising on his toes as he does so to imitate ascension to heaven. A performance that is marred a bit by his uncertainty of whether snakes have an afterlife.

Perform (mime), to act as aid for 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Mahjik the Flink wrote:

Heh. It is an amusing idea. Alas, the mist's presence means that Nylithati can't see Mahjik and thus isn't even aware that he's miming.

"We'll see about that," Nylithati says. While she may not have seen Mahjik, she clearly heard what he had to say. She looks about her and then turns and attacks Pezock (perhaps because he's out of the mist and easier to hit, perhaps because he's the most hurt, perhaps both).

Nylithati bite on Pezock: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 -- miss
Nylithati claw 1 on Pezock: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 -- miss

Pezock Fortitude vs paralysis: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Duration: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 rounds.

Her attacks are borne out of desperation and are ill-aimed, so Pezock easily steps aside of the first two. Unfortunately, as he avoids those two, he moves straight into the path of her left claw, which scrapes across his side. He suddenly goes rigid.

Next Up: Lorenz, Pezock, Douena, Urza, Makoa, Mahjik, Nylithati.

Douena barely waits for the ghoul to hit the floor. "Is everyone here?" she asks into the mist, as she raises her butterfly. Channel Positive Energy 1d6 ⇒ 2 She sighs as Desna's song whispers faintly through the mist. "We need to get out of here and get to Jask. Lorenz lowers his sword and lets out a sigh of relief. "Cayden's teeth, I thought we were doomed. That creature is...was...horrible."

"Is everyone still alive?"

Female Gnome Cleric 4/ Rogue (burglar) 3

"We need to get out of this mist," Douena sighs. "Should we go back to the central cave with the pool? Oh, wait, I think Pezock got paralyzed again; we'll have to wait for him." She smiles at Lorenz, though he probably can't see it. "He'll definitely have to give you a better nickname now. Mahjik?" She blinks into the fog. "I heard you. Are you okay now?"

A sort of gurgling sound comes from Pezock in response to Lorenz's question. After a few more seconds, the tengu stumbles forward with a yell.

"Haha! A great battle! Of course we're still alive! We are unstoppable!"

Despite his enthusiasm, he stumbles a couple more times as he moves, and clutches at a wound in his side. He is clearly badly injured (currently at 4 hp).

Makoa is also clearly exhausted and badly injured (with the hp loss from ending rage, he's now at 4 hp, too). "The pool," he says with a nod.

Female Gnome Cleric 4/ Rogue (burglar) 3

Douena reaches out to help support Pezock as they feel their way along the wall out of the mist. "Jask," she says firmly. "I'm about out of healing after all that. From the look in his eyes, it seems he doesn't even he's even noticed he said anything in a different language.

Mahjik feels like something is licking his wounds, soothing the pain from all the phantom snake bites.

Douena's not leaving without checking to see if Nylithati was carrying anything of value. She'll go back to search the body. :)

Pezock follows Douena back to Nylithati's body. He remains alert in case of trouble while she searches. There is little on the body apart from tattered clothes, but there are two items of interest: a silver ring and an amulet made from polished bone.

After Urza burned them, of course," she goes on, giving credit where it's due. "And Makoa, you took one of them out of our way by getting paralyzed and dragged off into the other room, so good job there, too; it let us focus on that awful priestess."

Pezock follows Douena back to Nylithati's body. He remains alert in case of trouble while she searches. There is little on the body apart from tattered clothes, but there are two items of interest: a silver ring and an amulet made from polished bone.

Douena pockets her treasue with a satisfied smile. "Have to have Urza take a look at these and see what they are," she tells Pezock. "I wonder ... how much cave is left that we haven't seen? Do you think I should just sneak in and see where they were trying to take Makoa?" She jumps up and begins carefully to move through the tunnel.

Stealth 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 She'll toss her light chip to about V 19, wait to see if there's any movement, then sneak in and take a look at the first cave. Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 Assuming the lantern is still in the central cave with the pool, some light should be coming from the ledge we first saw Nylithati on; if she sees no monsters in the first area, she'll move on to R 20ish. Stealth 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22 Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

The floor of the first chamber slopes down to a small, sandy beach. Seawater sloshes along the shore. The passage north also slopes downwards slightly, though not as deeply as the chamber. The passage then splits (at S 21). To the east, it slopes back upwards to the northwest ledge of the pool chamber. Because of the slope, only a small amount of light from Mahjik's lantern (which is in his possession) makes it through. She needs to bring her light chip with her to see to the west.

To the west it enters another chamber. The floor here is scattered with bones, body parts, and bits of seaweed. There is no west wall to the cavern. Instead, there is just a drop to the water below (no beach here). Just before the drop, there is a hole in the floor, which would also appear to drop down to the water below. The map makes it look like there's a little pool there, but that's actually the hole in the floor with the water underneath. The water actually continues underneath the chamber.

Douena sees no sign of more ghouls or any other creatures in these caverns.

Douena returns to Pezock and then back to the group. "No more monsters that I saw, unless they're in the water. The undead ghouly had these," she says, showing the ring and amulet to Urza. "Are they magic?"

"Heh, thanks," Mahjik smirks at Douena, "Irori's teachings primarily prepare us for situations; he generally does not interfere that much when a situation actually happens. 'Why aid an attack with divine inspiration, when your attack could instead be guided by having attacked a thousand times each day for the last ten years'. ...but..." Mahjik's smile is about ready to bridge the divide between the two ears, "I'm pretty sure once or twice my body moved nearly of its own accord. I think that is good."

"So... if you didn't spot any more undead, maybe we should take a closer look at their lair; there might be a few more clues or useful items."

Lorenz looks at Makoa. "Hey, when did you become a priest? For that matter, who do you worship?"

No one wants potion of clw?

Mahjik might take it, but not use it.

"Maybe, if no one wants, I'll keep it with me. But I don't think I need it right away. Jask and the others should be here soon; I'll wait for him - or use the potion in an emergency."

"Should we search the cavern where the ghouls were taking Makoa now, or go back to the surface? Personally, I'd rather clear this place out and not have to come back down, although I don't know how deep the water in there is or what might be in it or if we have to swim...."

"We should search this place and ensure there is no more evil in it," Pezock declares. "Wizard, I will take one of those potions. We should improve our strength as best we can before we go on." He holds out his hand for Urza to hand him a potion.

Assuming Urza does, he gulps it down.

Pezock looks much better afterwards.

The two items that Douena found do detect as magical, but Urza does not successfully identify them at this time.

subtract 2 potions of cure light wounds and add a ring and amulet to party equipment.
I agree with Pezock. Let's continue our explorations.

"I am well enough to continue. I just hope we don't stumble on ugly's uglier sister in the progress."

Lorenz picks up the sunrod he'd dropped earlier, finds his bow and returns it to its proper place over his shoulder and readies himself to follow after Makoa with sunrod in one hand and the scimitar in the other.

Douena takes her lighted bone chip. "I can drop it in the water," she explains, "to see how deep it is ... and if there's anything swimming in it."

"Wolves," she answers for Makoa. "Or whatever wolves worship? I don't know. There's invisible puppies involved."

Just realized I should probably answer for Makoa.

"Wolves, yes," Makoa says distantly. "There are wolves. But I am not a priest."

You move through the passages to the cavern that slopes down to the small beach. Moving further in than previously, you can see that the sea water enters here through a couple of wide passages from the west. The roof on these quickly slopes down so that the passages become completely submerged. Presumably, the water enters here through a couple of underwater caves along the cliff side. Apart from a few bones and rocks, there doesn't seem to be anything else here.

Douena Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Lorenz Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Mahjik Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Makoa Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Urza Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Pezock Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Moving to the northern cavern, you find little else. Although there's no beach, it's only a short drop (less than 10 feet) into the water. There is, however, another passage lead out of this chamber at the north side. The passage slopes downwards and curves round to the east.
