motteditor - Thanks for the chance to join you guys. I hope you enjoy the character. I have had "Thunder Rolling" bouncing about in my skull for quite some time, but haven't had the chance to really put him into play yet.
I guess I should go ahead and roll stats here?
Stats:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
HP:
1d12 ⇒ 10
1d12 ⇒ 8
1d12 ⇒ 12
1d12 ⇒ 9
1d12 ⇒ 3
1d12 ⇒ 12
Rerolls (if necessary)
1d12 ⇒ 9
1d12 ⇒ 1
1d12 ⇒ 5
Edit: Not bad stats at all.
@everyone - I look forward to running with you. This looks like a good game so far. I can't imagine why you've had problems keeping people around. As for me, I tend to stay with PbP games until they end or die. My longest running one was 18 months.

Thanks. I hope this one lasts as long as the ones I have DM'd in the past. It looks like it. Most of the pbp I have played on other boards die after a month or two. I am really looking forward to fleshing out Thunder and seeing how he handles himself.
On a half-related note. How do you create a Campaign? Do you just start a recruitment thread and get the option of attaching it to a new campaign? I have a pbp dying on the gitp forums and I think I'd like to restart it here when it goes.

I couldnt agree more about being optimistic that this game is long winded. Im in two games on here that have lasted around 10 months so far so there is definitely hope. Thankfully our GM has a long career on here ^_^
motteditor will have to answer your campaign question. Or you could post it for general discussion here
@ motteditor - who is Maligorn? I dont remember meeting him before.

I've got no plans to quit. Seems like we're moving with a bit more steam lately, so hopefully we can keep that up.
As far as campaigns, I think if you post in any of the online campaign forums it'll allow you to create it as a campaign. Obviously that usually starts with recruitment threads, but it lets you attach discussion and/or recruitment threads to a gamplay thread as well.
Maligorn is a satyr. He was introduced just a couple posts earlier.
And, Thunder, I've got your character sheet open in another tab. Hoping to get to look at it tonight and respond to your PM once I've got the paper to bed.

Well, I DM'd a homebrew campaign n the FOrgotten Realms setting that went for 18 months. The players had made it through 2 sections and were starting a third when it Finally died. The reprise is about 10 months in and it looks to be dying. This crew is moving slower and is just about to finish the first section.
Here's the starting map they got at the start. The first group started in the village to he northwest. The second group decided to land on he beach south of the pyramid and hike to it.
As for waiting on comments about my sheet, I am trying to get a virus off my wife's computer, so I'll likely be here for a while.

My feeling, at least in my year of experience with PBP, is non-Adventure Paths don't do as well. I think there's just a feeling of comfortableness that people have with the AP, and that homebrews generally work better live (but again, that's just my feeling and may be less accurate on other sites).
I feel like my two Adventure Paths have gone really well (one's been going since Dec. 25, 2010, and while it's had a decent amount of turnover, it's also got a solid core; the other's only a couple months old, but the posting rate has been ridiculously high and a really good mix of players that are having fun bouncing off each other).
I think (and this is just my sense, feel free to disagree) this has suffered a bit from being a standalone module, in that we've got a little less attachment to it and perhaps characters that don't have much in common beyond being thrown into this. I think the disappearing players have slowed things down, which creates a vicious cycle between player and DM. I know personally I'm more energized about the game with the more frequent posting of the last few days, which means I end up posting more.
Again, all YMMV...

I'll be able to say more as my Carrion Hill module gets a few miles under its belt. I'll be able to compare it to the two APs I'm running (Kingmaker and Jade Regent).
Although, I'm looking into moving from Carrion Hill to Carrion Crown, so it might fudge the dice...
I agree though that homebrew are quite a challenge to maintain as PbP.
It often comes down to posting rates. Too much can make certain players leave as they just can't follow (happened to me twice: I left), too little and they stop looking.
When I recruit I look for a core of good posters first (they often have good applications as well), then a layer of newer players that have good applications.

Just an FYI for everyone involved...
I am going to be in Haiti for a week (Apr 7-14), doing some electrical work at a medical clinic as part of a mission team. The guest house where we are staying has (sometimes shaky) internet connectivity, so I should be able to get a post a day in, but my ability to check the forums will be limited to evenings only. Just thought you should know.

Its a great game and Im having alot of fun in it. We're a good ways into it so far and the pace has been steady. Feel free to read along here Like many PBP's here its had a change of roster and a DM. DM Zyren takes over at page 16 and my character Kabal comes in at page 17.
Good luck on your run!

Thunder Rolling |

I'll give it a read next time I have a chance to sit down. Maybe tonight before bed. I really enjoy reading PbP games for some reason. Probably why I like to play in 2-3 and DM 2-3 at the same time. Of course, sometimes I think I am cheating my fellow players by not giving each enough attention, but 1 post a day isn't enough to scratch my itch.
And then there's maps. I love making maps, especially combat maps.

Thunder Rolling |

Just FYI, I leave for Haiti at oh-my-goodnees-it's-early in the morning. Starting tomorrow night I'll only be able to check and post in the evenings.
Also, Thunder has an ioun torch, though I don't imagine he'd have it out if we are trying to be stealthy.

Abigail asked about the elemental's whirlwind. Here's what I used (below), so please feel free to tell me if I made a mistake. The swarm missed its save the first round, taking damage and being forced back, but then made its save the second round.
---
Creatures one or more size categories smaller than the whirlwind might take damage when caught in the whirlwind (generally damage equal to the monster's slam attack for a creature of its size) and may be lifted into the air. An affected creature must succeed on a Reflex save (DC 10 + half monster's HD + the monster's Strength modifier) when it comes into contact with the whirlwind or take damage as if it were hit by the whirlwind creature's slam attack. It must also succeed on a second Reflex save or be picked up bodily and held suspended in the powerful winds, automatically taking the indicated damage each round. A creature that can fly is allowed a Reflex save each round to escape the whirlwind. The creature still takes damage but can leave if the save is successful.

I was going to say (and I ruled) that I don't think the slam attack would affect it, because of its immunities. However, looking again, it does say "as if it were hit..." so perhaps it should take that initial damage. I'll let everyone weigh in before decided, but it could well have taken more damage than I ruled so far and we can retcon that in.

However, it does bring up the point what do we want to do if we haven't finished by then (which I think is probably a 50/50 proposition)? I'm not going to really want to DMPC a quarter of the party for a month... We don't have to decide now, but I'd say think about it in case it happens. (And let's see if we can't post a bit faster, though I know that's partly on me too.)
