GM Mazra
@Severo - Good question. The map was just something I found that was close to the setup for this portion of the attack on Sandpoint. I will say that you can go off map along the bottom edge without it being difficult terrain. Treat it like there is another five foot area and none of it is difficult terrain. BTW, I have adjusted this series of encounters somewhat from the AP because of the maps that were available for online play.

Round Seven
Sheriff Hemlock is relieved to see help arrive. He fires an arrow at the approaching Dire Bear, but the Good Sheriff is much better with his sword.
Two of Sandpoint's guardsmen have engaged the lead Dire Bear. The Dire Bear claws both to its right and left. It bites to it left.
Dire Bear 1 Claw 1 Left Guardsmen: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 311d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Dire Bear 1 Claw 2 Rigth Guardsmen: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 161d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Dire Bear 1 Bite Left Guardsmen: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 321d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
The first Dire Bear misses the right guardsmen with it claw. The left guardsmen did not fare well. The Dire Bear tore into the young man with both a paw and a bite. The left guardsmen falls over unconscious. He is bleeding badly from the wounds and is dying.
The second Dire Bear seems to be working on an unfortunate citizen of Sandpoint.
The third Dire Bear moves along the river.
Elektra begins to summon in again the Hound Archon Caleb.
The right Guardsmen tries to drive his sword into the Dire Bear. His thrust glances off one the Dire Bear's bony projections.
Right Guardsmen Longsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 131d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Flynn and Devora are en route. They arrive to the sound of battle.
Flynn and Devora are now on the map.
Brandark drives Ababcus toward battle.
Stone rides Shadowmist closer to the action then calls forth and receives a pillar of flames that strikes both the second Dire Bear and the first Stone Giant that appears to be grabbing at something in a house.
Stone Giant 1 Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Dire Bear 2 Reflex Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Both the Dire Bear and Stone Giant were able to avoid the full brunt of Stone's Flame Strike.
Severo also rides toward battle.
The first Stone Giant, startled by the sudden column of fire, steps back and assesses the situation.
The second one moves with the third Dire Bear.

Devora Heidmarch
Devora never stops reciting her epic poem, it start to take on a more lilting quality of a song as her prose turns into rhymes. She rides up near Brandark, Severo and Stone.
With all three of you going after Devora in the initiatives, you all may take the benefit of Devora's Inspire Courage. +2 to hit and to damage.
Brandark Plainswalker
Ho Abacus, time for us to send this overgrown tub of lard back to where it came from.
He spurs Abacus into an outright charge at the lead bear in an attempt to get its attention away from the guardsman.

Something Terrible
The first Dire Bear tears at the right Guardsmen. But, the ancient bear only got one claw into the right Guardsman. He survived.

Dire Bear 2 Bite Right Guardsmen: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 201d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
@Stone - Do you have Shadowmist's stats?
The third Dire Bear bounds towards the party with a Stone Giant in tow.
Need Flynn, Stone, and Severo's actions to complete the Round.
Brandark Plainswalker
GM, use my stats for suzie on my profile. Those are similar to a book standard heavy horse.
Otherwise, IIRC Shadowmist was found in book 1
GM Mazra
I didn't know I was supposed raise his level. If so how many? Otherwise stats are on my profile.
@Stone - Your stats are showing Shadowmist with an AC15 and HPs 19, so he survived the attack. I recall, and its been a while, that you were training Shadowmist, a Warhorse. I just don't recall the details. BTW-What does Stone do in the current round? Maybe Brandark can help with Shadowmist. After all, Abacus is more powerful than Brandark. ;)

Difference is that Abacus, is my companion, and Shadowmist is a Book Stock Warhorse.
Those stats look right for a standard horse, which is why they tend to start dying in droves at higher levels.
The only way that we might be able to get those stats higher, is if Stone were to figure out how to convert him from a standard horse, to a companion
Stone the Blade of Sarenrae

I can add hit and the other stuff with hero lab easy enough but it up to Mazra.
Stone will channel some positive vibes while excluding the two cave bears.
channel energy: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 6, 1) = 13
Then moves Shadow back five.
Severo Lione
No, I just got lost in other stuff. Might still be slow the next week or so. Severo has a pretty straightforward gameplan, so if you need to bot him in initiative, I don't have a problem with it. My plan was to go around bear #2, but do we have space for the horse to do that safely? It looks like there's a drop-off in terrain. If Severo can't circumnavigate his way to giant #2...
Severo moves his horse up ten feet, then begins attacking the #2 dire bear.

Round Eight
Sheriff Hemlock puts a bolt into the first Dire Bear.
The first Dire Bear claws into right Guardsman. The brave Sandpoint Guard is injured, but is still up.
The second Dire Bear leaves its meal and seeks other prey. It bites the mighty Warhorse Shadowmist.
A third one moves around to the party's right.
Elektra brings in Caleb. He charges and attacks the second Dire Bear. He cuts into the bear with his Greatsword.
Then the Elf Wizard follows it up with an Acid Arrows from here wand.
The right Sandpoint Guardsman marshals through the pain, but was just not able to get a thrust into the massive Dire Bear.
Right Guardsmen Longsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 131d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Flynn jumps off his horse and fires a pair of hasted arrows. Both of them reach their target, the first Stone Giant. The Stone Giant howls as two arrows lodge into its body.
Devora rides up near Brandark, Severo and Stone. She gives them all courage.
Brandark drives Abacus against the first Dire Bear. He thrust his weapon into the massive bear. Abacus kicks and scores. The Dire Bear reels from the blows, but is not out.
Stone brings in some positive vibes to the situation, but leaves the Dire Bears out of the good joy.
The left Guardsman begins to recover. Brandark, Severo, and the mighty Warhorse Shadowmist were all healed.
@Severo - You were caught up in Stone's Channel Energy. You would not have needed to use your LoH. You may need it later.
From the back of his mount, Severo rides up to and begins to attack the second Dire Bear. He buries his Greatsword into the Dire Bear's throat severing vital arteries. The second Dire Bear falls down dead.
It is always best to take out enemies when you can. Those were too good of a set of attacks to waste. One less enemy the party needs to contend with.
Seeing one of its Dire Bears being slain, the first Stone Giant moves up, takes a stone and hurls it toward the Half-Orc Paladin. The rock solidly hits Severo.
Stone Giant 1 Rock Throwing: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 261d8 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18

The sounds of fear and anxiety has shifted to outright terror.
The Rise of the Runelord Appendices has a piece of art that addresses this event. It is included for your pleasure. Also, I have updated the Sandpoint Map to show the location of the flying Dragon and its route.

Devora looks back at the Inquisitor. Then maintaining her now lilting poem, she add some of poor Sandpoint's history in the mix in light of Flynn's comments. Devora dismounts from her horse. She then takes aim with her bow and fires it at the first Stone Giant, taking cover along the corner of a building. The shot was just enough to stick into the hardened Stone Giant's flesh.

GM Mazra
Round Nine....well mostly
Seeing the Red Dragon, Sheriff Hemlock rushes toward the center of town to organize fire brigades.
The first Dire Bear likes horse meat. It attacks Abacus. It wasn't able to get any claws into the mighty steed, but it was able to get a taste of horse flesh. Yum!
Dire Bear 1 Claw 1: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 141d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Dire Bear 1 Claw 2: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 241d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Dire Bear 1 Bite: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 291d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Abacus took 12 points of damage.
Elektra begins to summon in additional help.
Flynn ponders the luck of Sandpoint and continues to fire arrows at the Stone Giant. Two more arrows stick into the thick hide Giant.
Devora joins Flynn in the fun, while lamenting the trials of Sandpoint. Her arrow sticks into the first Stone Giant as well.
Brandark brings his axe down hard on the first Dire Bear, slicing deep into the big carnivore.
But it was Abacus that received vengeance. The mighty warhorse stomps then gets a taste of bear meat. Yuk! The first Dire Bear falls dead.
An ally from Sarenrae appears an attacks the third Dire Bear. Kyra's first swing missed, but its second sliced into the bear.
Severo is heroic.
The GM is taking over Caleb. With only five HPs left, let's see if the Hound Archon can finish off the first Stone Giant. It will get an AoO on the Hound Archon.
Caleb attacks the first Stone Giant. He rushes toward the big enemy. The Stone Giant reacts to the approaching Hound Archon and strikes the mighty warrior. But the good Archon was able to absorb much of the blow. Unfortunately, Caleb's own attack was unable to slice into the Stone Giant's thick and hardened skin.
Stone Giant 1 AoO greatclub: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 212d8 + 12 ⇒ (3, 3) + 12 = 18
Caleb's Greatsword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 122d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 6) + 3 = 13
The third Dire Bear hesitates, waiting on its master. But when Stone's Ally appears, the Dire Bear attacks it. Though of course it is like attacking nothing, so there was no effect.
The first Stone Giant withdraws from battle heading back to the narrow portion of the river.
When the second Stone Giant sees the attack on its Dire Bear. It ignores the Spiritual Ally, moves, takes cover behind a building and throws a stone at Stone.
Stone Giant 2 stone: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 231d8 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
It stoned Stone.

Riding abacus over the corpse of the dead bear, Brandark rides by the down townsfolk, and then back at the bear from behind, while it's attention is focused on Stone.

Brandark then stands in the stirrups in order to get a heavy attacking swing in.

Severo lays on hands, heads toward the second Stone Giant, dismounts and moves to with ten feet.
Round Ten....well again mostly
Caleb runs back to his master.

Juvenile Red Reflex Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Yes. Not a Ghaele. That was a bit strong for a Summon Monster VI. ;) Wizards of the Coast made a truly great miniature of a Ghaele from the 3.5 Monster Manual artwork. I have never been able to find a place to use it. :(
Elektra moves her pony a bit south, then uses another charge from her Wand of Acid Arrows. But the Stone Giant's Hide Armor protected it from the glob of acid.
The Sandpoint Guardsman pursue the fleeing first Stone Giant. They sheave their swords and pull out their crossbows along the way.
Flynn is heroic!
Devora takes a step and unloads a volley of arrows into the Dire Bear.
I am taking a few liberties here.
Brandark drives Abacus around his compatriots, Devora and Stone, through the narrow streets to get to the third Dire Bear. Kyra takes a step to make room. The Dwarf Cavalier then hacks into the third Dire Bear.
The Dire Bear would not have been able to get an AoO. And I chose not to take one with the Stone Giant as its focus was toward Severo and Elektra.
Stone is equally Heroic, as was its Spiritual Ally.
Severo now takes a step and smites the second Stone Giant with mighty blows.
The Dire Bear attacks the Dwarven rider, but is unable to penetrate Brandark's armor.
