I think I picked up the Lucky feat somewhere along the way and my DM seems to allow it, so instead I'll burn some luck points if necessary. :)

I like jury duty.
Get to be involved in a civic duty and you get a chance to voice your opinion for a fellow citizen (so it's not just the government determining someone's fate; you get to have a word).
Plus, it's nice to be able to actually be involved in government. Makes you realize that our government isn't a "them" vs us citizens, but that were actually a part of the government and it's actually us.

It's more a timing issue right now. There's a big crunch at work this week and next to meet a deadline next Friday. Unfortunately if I'm in court all day I'll still have catch-up work at night even with other people covering for me.
I'm old-ish (old people consider me young and young people consider me old) and every time I've been summoned for jury duty I've never had to report. I keep getting drawn by the courts with the lighter dockets. Make of that what you will. :)

Ashlyn Fairchild |

I've never gotten summoned for jury duty. I always wanted to do it at least once. Unfortunately, now that I work in law enforcement, I'll be dismissed from any criminal case, and I do not ever want to be a juror on a civil case.

DM Critic |

I failed my save vs. jury duty for tomorrow. I've also got this work project breathing down my neck, so I need to pause until probably Sunday. If I can post sooner I will.

DM Critic |

So I got kicked from the jury after the first pass, so I'm done for now, and work seems to have settled down for like five minutes. I celebrate with a new post!
Also, Ashlyn, you weren't kidding. I got to witness another juror get dismissed because she was an ex-police officer some years back in another city.

Oooo! Are we naming off our secret identities to confuse the civvies? Yes!
91Q
91 means medical.
Q...means drugs.
"Better living through chemistry!"
"Drugs are our business and business is good!"

Awesome, Atlas!
After the army, I used my GI Bill to get degrees.
BS in toxicology and chemistry. MS in forensics.
I was in a PhD for environmental chemistry, but I left it to work in industry so I could spend more time with my wife and kids. They wanted me to work 100+ hours per week, and I said, "f%&~ that."
(Seriously. My PhD professor said I should be working 7am to 10pm, seven days a week, barring commute time. When I asked about spending time with my newborn son, she said, "That's easy. Spend ten minutes putting him to bed and then get back to work." F+@& that.)

Your story reminds me of one I was told by one of the DBA (database adminstrators) that I used to work with. He said that his job would not let him quit. He would go in late to work, go to work drunk, and still they wouldn't fire him, because he was one of like 20 people in the country who knew the proprietary software that all of their machines ran on. Finally, he didn't call in once for two weeks, then called into work and quit via phone, but his boss went into the room where the messages were stored and deleted his message. It got so out of hand that he had to tell his boss' boss' boss that he was quitting, and even he begged him to stay but ultimately understood and let him leave.

That...is very odd.
Mind you, just to finish out the thought experiment, why would you ever leave that job? It sounds like infinite paid vacation with hyper-flexible hours.
I'd imagine that every couple of months he could ask for a raise.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he had some very good reasons for wanting to quit, but it sounds like the kind of indefensible position that literally billions of other people lust after. =)

Ashlyn Fairchild |

I have to say I am very lucky to say our state passed a law stating that all government agencies must offer some form of compensation for overtime. So, we don't get paid over 40 hours, but we do earn vacation hours on a 1 to 1 basis for everything over.
It is really wonderful when you get stuck on a case and work 100+ hours to walk away with 60+ hours of vacation time to recuperate.

I've been busy with work. I'll have a post up soon.
I'm also randomly not getting notifications of new posts on my campaigns, which is weird.

DM Critic |

Addendum: post notifications not showing is an ongoing issue. Looks like Paizo is working on fixing it.

Alright chummers guys, the fixer nice information lady owes us a favor with generous terms.
What exactly should I ask for?
I assume the map is off the table, but anything else?
I reserve the right to ask this again later, since no one might read this, considering the Recent Unpleasantness.

DM Critic |

It looks like Paizo's latest woes are resolved, or at least I'm starting to see notifications again.
@Vrog, I've barely had time to glance at the Mystic 3.0, but since I'm guessing it's now closer to official than v2.0 was, go ahead and convert. I'll see if I can dive in deeper this weekend.

Okay, I finally got Tenchi converted over to the new iteration of Mystic. He more or less the same, although I had to rejuggle a few things to make him viable.

Work is killing me again this week. I have some stuff half drafted and I'll get a post up as soon as I can.

Moq Qo Harr |

I have been hit by a seemingly unending list of IRL issues, and I wanted to let you all know. I will return as soon as I can to my regular posting but it may be as long as next week before I have time again.
Sorry for the long wait for even this response, but I cannot express how crazy it has been.

DM Critic |

I'm still alive. Work is currently trying to make me wish I wasn't.

DM Critic |

We're not dead yet, I hope. I had a health scare in the last week that turned out to be much less serious than I feared. I'm still working on getting back to things.
If the consensus of the group is that we're done I completely understand. If you're willing to bear with the glacial pace a bit longer we'll pick back up soon.
I apologize for the lack of updates. I've had much going on that's left me pretty fried and not in much of a mindset for gaming.
