"Your home is quite nice." says Skuld as she looks around Shayera's apartment. On the balcony, Skuld takes her seat on the railing with the others.
"I love the view from this height. It reminds me of hot nights in Asgard, where I would alight on a roof and just drink in the view."
Not so different after all: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4
Skuld stares nostalgically off into the distance, almost dozing. By the time she realizes what she is doing, she's already mostly done speaking.
"I don't like enclosed spaces. I was once swallowed by a Rendwyrm, and it took my father hours to get me out. It was the worst time of my life, and ever since then, I haven't felt very good with being restricted or tied down. It's why I panicked in the fitting room. I was never ashamed of my body before I came to Midgard." she finishes, looking down at her feet.
That's an advancement for me, too. I'm going to take a There when it matters from the Bull playbook.

Bronwyn gives a sympathetic nod. "I noticed that you seemed extra wigged out by the shackles back when we went to Reaper...
"So with the clothes and the fitting room... The world feels like it's not quite built to the correct scale, right? Like you literally don't fit in it? I know Bran feels the same way while he's here, but he gets to go back. It must feel really lonely being down here with us sometimes."

Shayera falls silent at the exchange and Skuld's confession of claustrophobia. Being a winged flier, she didn't necessarily like enclosed spaces, but she'd had enough experience in surgeries and containment tubes that she could deal.
"Well, feel free to come over anytime you like. Both of you. Even if It's just to enjoy the viee. It's my living space, but there's plenty of room and also the labs. A full medical lab, and chem lab. In my copious free time, I'm learning how to use them. I want them to be used by the Team, especially if it grows beyond us."
That sparks another topic of discussion in her mind. "Say, speaking of, what do you think of the capes who showed up at the robot-monster fight? Apex, we met earlier. Then there's the latest Silver Shadow, who could give us some cred if she joined. The other two guys, what were your thoughts on them?"

Bronwyn kept her face from twisting in annoyance at the shift to slightly fraught shop-talk, and no-handsed her way back up to a sitting position on the rail, letting her legs dangle and her core take a break from suspending her out above the city. "Well, you guys met 'em, but Bran liked them well enough. Shadowboxer'd be a good heavy hitter, and his heart seemed to be in the right place, even if he seemed to have a bit of a temper as well. The new Silver Shadow would be really exciting to have on the team too, obviously, no reason to think she wouldn't be invaluable, and ummm... Jusker? If nothing else, Bran's hoping to get a look at his amulet, can't imagine something with that kind of juice was just lying around. But as long as everything there's on the up and up, Bran's an aye for him too." And he's a good listener

I wanted to ask him about last night's meeting with Apex, by the way. Did you set it up somehow? Since he came to me worried about some meeting that night and wanted me to back him up."

Not everything, but enough to give him the basics till Bran could talk to him. He'd kind of outed himself with how he was asking me questions anyways, so I set up the meet.
Wait, he wanted backup? What'd he think was going to happen? Sure, I got a little mad when we first talked, but he's an abrasive guy; he can't think everyone's actually planning to hit him just 'cause he's asking for it, right?"

The tremors were the first sign. You could feel them all the way across the city. For the average citizen, the next came when robots that seem way to clunky and goofy to function start marching through the streets. Traffic all but crashes, and panic grows as the robots which must number in the hundreds station themselves in cars, on trees, in apartments, on stairways, in doorways, etc etc etc just getting in the way. Each has a stupid look on their face, but grinning widely as their jackets come off to reveal a large cartoonish bomb, the wicks of various sizes snaking up and out. And then some begin to light...
Reports of this phenomenon begin to pour in, and everyone is understandably terrified.
But these rachet up to a new level of terror when what can only be described as goblins begin rushing through the streets, each armed with a club, stick, or any other instrument of pain they can get their hands on. They rush the bomb dummies, and begin to beat them mercilessly. A few go off, explosions throwing the goblins and pedestrians back. Its mass panic.

Shayera hops off the railing and spins to face Bronwyn. "Yeah, you're telling me. He kinda figured out my secret identity -- not that it's super hard, me being a half-Chinese girl who disappeared the same time as Wingblade died. But he was so smug about it; I had to mess with him. Then he says he's got this meeting with someone, and he says I'm, like, someone he could trust to back him up. So, I snuck in, saw he was meeting you, then dropped in. Especially since you were talking about forming a team."
She extends a hand to help Bronwyn back off the railing. "You want to see the rest of the apartment now? Or, are you hungry? I've got a pretty well-stocked kitchen. I could heat something up, or if you'd like an energy bar or something, I've got those, too." She looks at both Bronwyn and Skuld, interested in being a good hostess.

"That is certainly part of it, yes, but I have also been trying to assimilate to Midgard norms, as I have been told that I 'stand out' and that this is a bad thing. It seems that the cultural norm for females here is to be small and skinny, and I am neither of those things. I still do not fully understand your ways, but I am making an effort to make others more comfortable with my presence."
"Say, speaking of, what do you think of the capes who showed up at the robot-monster fight? Apex, we met earlier. Then there's the latest Silver Shadow, who could give us some cred if she joined. The other two guys, what were your thoughts on them?"
"I think that Apex is a bit full of himself, which I believe masks a deep self-doubt; he feels that he is not quite good enough to stand toe-to-toe with us, and so he relies heavily on his intelligence to make up for that. The man named Shadowboxer seems like he might be of use, but he lacks discipline; Jusker seems to be at war with himself, and I do not know enough about this Silver Shadow woman, except that she behaves like some of the more popular girls at our school: she seems to believe that everything should act in accordance with her wishes."

Wingblade stifles a brief flare of irritation that their fun girls' night out is interrupted, then quickly orders, "Abacus, on screen. Location of disturbance, show the traffic videos, anything else we know for sure."
While the supercomputer puts various video feeds and a large map of Halcyon City, she runs into her cavernous bedroom and quickly begins changing out of her shopping clothes and into her action outfit. While her $1,500 outfit gets unceremoniously tossed on the floor, she shouts out, "Skuld, you're welcome to raid my closet for something more combat-appropriate if you can't summon your battle armor here. Sorry nothing'll fit right. Bronwyn, it's probably time to call Bran into action."
She pops her communicator in her ear and toggles it to Whippoorwill's channel as she steps out, studying the information on Abacus's screen. "Hey boss. You seeing this? Robots, and what are those? Gremlins? Goblins? I've got Bran and Thor Girl with me at the apartment. Any preference? They're all over, but it looks like a cluster near Stan Lee Memorial Plaza. Tapping the earbud in his left ear twice, he spouts an immediate sitrep, "Wingblade, this is Apex, I'm with Silver Shadow and... Amulet. Turning to the two in the car with him, he continues. "Jusker, can you work on containing whatever's causing those explosions? I'll try to handle crowd control and watch your back. Shadow, I know you want to get out there and mix it up with us, but we need someone to check on the kids, if they're at the center of this, knowing that could save a lot of lives. Alright, let's go!"

From the sounds of growling war cries and the crunch of metal, it seems Whippoorwill is already deep into things.
"The little green ones disperse as soon as you deal a solid hit, and the bots fall to pieces with the same. But the damage they can do is real. They've got to be coming from somewhere, find it! And let everyone know that this isn't the time to cower. The populace should be able to fight back."
Apex, its as if a bunch of ugly green children are having a pinata breaking festival and no one gave you the memo. While the civilians may not be in direct harm, the explosions seem very real as it seems some robots head head crack open with a sad face and fall to pieces, while others crack open into a dead face (with X's for eyes) and explode. And currently, it seems some of the bots are being pummeled by the gremlins right on top of a gas station. If those things explode....
Silver Shadow, you know while you're not in the middle of the melee, your work is just as important. While the other heroes stem the tide, someone has to cut it off at its source.

Still, when you arrive at the edge of the apartment, you find the side still busted open from the explosion before. When you climb up and into the ruins of the bedroom, no boys in sight, you find a few burned up cards that seem very familiar. The giant robot from before, as well as one of its augment cards. Whatever's going on, it doesn't seem tide to the specific deck. Tracking down where this threat is coming from is the best chance of you finding a link, and cutting off the source.
As for the threat, given your distance from the actual threat. It's hard to say what is the biggest threat.

In all the confusion, it hadn't been hard for Bronwyn to find somewhere out of sight to make her swap.
Annoyingly, since Bronwyn hadn't been transforming, there hadn't been any way to get the rest of Bran's armor back to him, so his helm and gauntlets still left his panoply incomplete.
Against foes such as these, hopefully he wouldn't regret that absence.
A gremlin burst into naught at his first blow. But everything came from somewhere, nothing truly ever disappears. If there was any hint of magic, a touch of the divine or profane in the makeup of these foul beasts he would find it.

As Apex gives his sitrep, she keys her bud to the whole team. "Okay, this is happening all over the city, but it's not that bad; the green guys go down with a good hit, robots too. We can recruit the locals to help if necessary. Priority is figuring out where these come from. Some other game like last night? Find out."
Then without hesitation, she jumps off the balcony and uses her wings to take them to street level safely, though she and Bronwyn enjoy a few seconds of pure freefall. Wingblade pulls up just in time, slows down enough to safely drop Bronwyn off so she can transform, then skims along the street with her wings splayed and sharp edges out. She cuts a swath through the robots and goblins.
Spotting a wrought iron fence bordering the plaza, she banks toward it and slashes it to pieces. She lands, scooping up the metal spears, and starts passing them out to citizens. "They're not that tough! Focus on the green guys, stay away from the bombs. You can do this!" she says.

The masked teen then starts giving orders, which Jusker only half-heard, because by then he was on his way out of the car. "Uh, containing the explosions. Right. Let's get airborne." He pushes off the ground and surveys the scene.
Whatever he expected to see, it wasn't this. Cartoonish robot bomb dummies blocking streets and sidewalks, doorways and parking lots. Impish creatures beat on them with sticks and stones, until they explode. Each explosion causes the ground to shake, which is the tremors felt inside the car. "I... uh..." The sheer absurdity of such a sight having come out of nowhere stops him in his tracks.
He shakes his head to clear it. "Okay. This is happening, and I need to control it. That shield thing worked pretty well last time, let'stry that." He darts to the closest robot, whose fuse is almost out. Holding out his hands, Jusker encases him in pink energy.
Unleash your powers!: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 = 5
Really...
It fails utterly. Maybe Jusker hadn't learned from his first mistake, or maybe these things are just too different from the last robot. Whatever the reason, his energy shield does nothing at all to contain the blast-- if anything, making it worse by adding extra shrapnel. "Ok, not the way to go." Looking around again, he sees another problem: there's just too many of them. "One at a time won't work. I need to take out a lot of them."

This is like that stupid web phenomenon, how many five year olds can you take in a fight?
All signs pointed to Apex being able to take on a lot as he chewed through the gremlin mob between him and the gas station. He was grateful the bodies dissipated quickly because the large numbers prevented him from holding back and the sight of all the dislocated limbs and broken bones wouldn't have endeared him to the public.
As he reached the gas station, his movements didn't pause while he settled his plan of attack. First, deal with the gremlins and prevent them from exploding prematurely. Then figure out how to get them away without leveling the neighborhood.

Bran, you do find a trail of something, a just the faintest threads of the energy whiffing in one particular direction. You start to head off, hitting a few more gobs along the way, re-affirming what you're starting to discern, that everything is leading to Halycon Central Park, a well kept grassy area in the middle of the busy commerce section of the city.
Wingblade, you foist the makeshift weapons on the populace. A dude bro looks awestruck and seems to be torn between thanking you for the help or asking for your number. A grandmother you handed the first piece to has already started smacking at one of the gobs who's gotten close. Soon, one by one, the word starts to get out from the people you're helping, and the people in this section seem to be fighting back.
Juskar you wince, as your pink shell around the robot, does shatter and scatters to the surrounding area. Extremely sharp pieces seem to almost eviscerate the surrounding area.
Making a soft move here Jusker. I want you to remember a time where Juskar tried to use his power, and there was a lot of collateral damage.
Juskar, shaking yourself after that memory leaps up from the depths of your mind, you look around trying to figure out the best way to clean up a lot of enemy at once. You need something fast and with force, and it occurs to you that a lot of these things are in the middle of road, and there are a lot of abandoned cars around, some with or without keys in the ignition.
You can get cute, I just need to know what the move is in the end.
Silver Shadow makes some deductions, but given your abilites is being very good with thinking, you do have a hunch that it might be more than a cursed deck or a child being a mage of sorts.
Apex, you almost get dogpiled on, but as someone quicker, stronger, and bigger, you find enough rhythm to keep them off you and onto each other. But its work, and you're holding them back well enough to keep the general chaos from reaching the pumps. A wave of pedestrian wielding kitchen knives, baseball bats, and golf clubs seem to be fighting their way towards your general direction, and you see that one spots you and starts yelling at the others, pointing in your direction as you continue to throw the gobs back away from the pumps.
Thor Girl you descend and land next to Apex as the pedestrians arrive, small bits of green staining shirts, shoes, and parts of the pavement. You only time to catch up on the situation, before you spot something new in the distance.
A large castle made of dark stone, goblin heads carved into the walls, and lava pouring out of them appears in the park. On the other side, what could only be a skyscraper with helipads and turrets seem to form out of nowhere as well.
There's no mistaking it. This is a carbon copy of a popular tower defense game that's been #1 topselling for the last few months. The Goblin King and Zer0 are both popular characters to select. The objective of the game is to defeat your opponents base, but unless you're a regular player, you don't know what they're special abilities are.

Okay. Okay. This isn't too big. You just have to break it down. If we all just run around we'll never get to the end of this, but even with Shayera's help it's too dangerous out there for all those people...
"Friends, the heart of this peril lies within the park. Let the fastest among us make safe the rest of the city, while the rest converge on this magic's source."

Wingblade tries not to let the joy of battle detract her from her mission to get to the bottom of this phenomenon. It wasn't easy; the robots and goblins were legion, and even after getting a decent-sized group of citizens to fight back there were plenty for her to fight. She slashes, pivots, blocks, strikes, dodges, parries, ducks, and just when she is surrounded, she spins with her wings fanned out and her enemies fall. Every time a robot reaches critical mass, she dives toward it with her wings spread to shield bystanders and funnel the blast towards other targets. She lives for this, and her body sings in combat.
Still, her mentor's words keep her focused. Bran's report that the source of the threat was in the park steers her in that direction as she tears through the hordes.

Wingblade gives the dudebro a wink as she takes a moment to make sure the citizens are holding their own. "Keep it up! Protect each other; I'm going after the source," she says as she takes flight to get a better vantage of the scene.
She circles around, looking for the new landmarks that Bran had alluded to. She gapes when she sees the stone fortress with lava and the battle-skyscraper. "Holy--!" she exclaims, then immediately begins flying toward them.
"Okay, listen up people, we've got two new phenomena in town: some stone castle that looks like it belongs in a bad video game, and a high-tech tower with turrets and launch bays. I'm going to test the defenses of the tower. See if I can get in close."
With that, Wingblade picks up speed as she angles her flight toward the tower. She keeps an erratic flight path, staying out of sight by ducking behind other buildings and weaving through one level of an elevated parking garage on her approach until it's time for her to make the push in the open space surrounding the tower.

Jusker Ragnos |
![Aron Kir](http://cdn.paizo.com/image/avatar/PZO9074-Aron.jpg)
It was a slow night on Sycamore. The usual crowd was filtering in and out of the Bouncing Beaver; Jusker lurked nearby, waiting for a target. He wanted somebody to stumble out, too trashed to walk straight, fumbling with car keys. Best of both worlds that way. The amulet would help him subdue the drunk-- he was "saving lives," after all-- and then he'd relieve the poor fool of anything valuable. He knew better than to steal cars; too easy to wind up in prison that way. Lifted phones weren't worth much, as a rule, because most of them got tracked. Jusker kept to wallets, and the occasional watch.
A commotion went up about a block down. Some cape fighting another, most likely. Jusker didn't pay it much attention. Normal folk usually got left alone during super brawls, and with his amulet hidden, he could easily pass for normal folk. He kept an ear out, but his gaze stayed on the Beaver's front door.
Suddenly, the commotion got closer. And closer. Jusker whipped his head around in time to see the front grill of an Audi sedan leaving the street and quickly filling his field of vision. The front seat was empty, and the tires were skidding more than rolling along the ground. Uh-oh. "Deflect right!" he shouted, crossing his arms reflexively in front of his face. A wall of energy appeared in front of him, angled to one side.
The car caromed off his shield and crashed into the parking lot. Jusker realized too late that he had chosen the angle poorly. Had he deflected the car into the empty street, it might have bled momentum and eventually stopped in the oncoming lane. Instead he had chosen the parking lot, and the results were disastrous. The car slammed into two other cars with such force that they were pushed outward, colliding with the vehicles beside them. The Audi, meanwhile, continued through the opposite row of cars and the next, and finally crashed into the side of the Beaver, crumpling the aluminum outer wall. He didn't want to count the number of vehicles compromised by his split-second decision, but he knew he couldn't stay here. The owner of the bar would be furious, ready to blame anyone caught in the parking lot. Jusker bolted.
* * * * *
Looking around desperately, Jusker sees a few parked cars and is suddenly reminded of that night outside the Bouncing Beaver. That car was thrown. As bad as the results of that night had been, it couldn't be denied that if destruction had been his goal, the car was damned effective. I don't know if I can throw one myself-- but I can shoot it. "Okay, I need a slingshot. Not a little one, but like... for that car. Can I do that?" Concentrating, he conjures a large slingshot in front of a nearby parked car. Four or five robots were lined up along the sidewalk in front of it. Straining, he pulls the pocket back and hooks it around the car's rear fender. Please let this work. Then he lets go.

Quinlan answers the phone, which is good, but she does not sound happy.
"Shadow, I do not have time for this right now. There's an invasion going on, or goblins and androids decided our city was going to be their grudge grounds. To top it all off, I think part of the city is fighting back, which is good, but we got some crazies who are firing guns like its new years and someone's going to get hurt."
You hear three distinct gunshots, as Quinlin stops talking for a moment, You can hear the rustle of her jacket as she presses the phone against her shoulder, reloading her sidearm.
[b"But something tells me you know what's going on, huh? Always in the middle of the mess, aren't you? The kids are in protective custody, along with their parents. As far as they no, something is happening, but they have no idea what. And yeah, I checked, neither of them are playing games of any sort. As for Haxor, you read the file. He hasn't been seen since his dead bluff. If he's behind this, I'd be surprised."[/b]
Juskar, its like you're a line bad consequences and the dominoes will not stop falling. You manage to warp the energy in the right way, but when you go to shoot the created slingshot, you put to much force behind it. It gets the targets all right, but it slams into the side of the building next to them, the entrance to a series of apartment complexes. The grinding crunch of metal is so familiar you feel your throat jumping up as your chest tightens in stress.
Skuld, while not familiar with games, you understand the basics of war. And if the chatter of the coms was anything to indicate, you imagine the best way to end this quickly is to destroy one side until the other proves victorious. As for who's winning currently? It's hard to tell, and something tells you trying to break through the castle walls is gonna be a tough job.
Apex, you're trying your best to get to the castle, even using the combatants in the streets as springboards. You didn't expect for such destructive machines to be so....flimsy. Your foot lands hard on a robot which immediately crumples under you. You get your balance back by rolling, but the robots around you are already bearing down on your position. And then their warning lights start to flash read... Your mind races as you look around for any kind of advantage, any kind of edge to get you out of this situation. And what you see shocks you as a survivor, and as someone who has always been able to scrap their way out of a problem.
You don't see any way out of this.
Take a powerful blow as you brace yourself for the impending explosion.
Both the skyscraper and castle seem to be churning out their respective drones. A few moments pass and the skyscraper somehow spawns two helicopters, but each is equipped with weaponry. The castle, in turn, starts to spawn two catapults, and almost immediately two large flaming boulders are flung at the skyscraper. One hits and visible damage is shown and the remnants of the boulder fall to the abandoned park below, but the other hurtles past the skyscraper into the city proper.

That's what I get for trying to be clever, Wingblade thinks as she pulls herself out of the small crater she made when she hit the soft ground of the park. She had approached the tower expecting there to be a human intelligence behind the defenses, but they tracked her immediately as soon as she was in the clear. She was clipped by a laser blast and she ended up in the dirt.
Her wings shake off the clumps of soil and grass as she sizes up the tower. She watches as a flaming boulder smashes one side of it, causing some damage. She seizes that moment to launch herself into the air for another attack.
This time, rather than trying to avoid the laser blasts, she tries using the mirror sheen of her wings to reflect them back to the tower.

Deciding that the quickest route to dealing with the situation would be to deal with the castle, Skuld flies high above it, then drops, relying on her magically-forged boots to absorb what impact that would effect her, with the idea being that she would become like a siege projectile.
Choosing not to take life if she can help it, she picks her landing spot in the courtyard, between the walls and the main building of the castle itself, and off the path.
Skuld totally does the superhero landing, modified by holding an empty car in one hand.

Holidays are here, so no worries if you're getting busy. I certainly am!
Bran is able to shrug off the blast, successfully defending his ally in the process. Wingblade uses the metallic sheen of her wings to refract the lasers right back at the skyscraper building. It seems to hit and even crack one of its reinforced glass windows. At the other end of the park, Skuld launches herself into the courtyard of the castle, though not having broken into the castle proper. Small green goblins surround you, and unlike the ones ravaging the streets earlier, these ones seem tougher, bigger, and well armed with weapons of metal that actually had an edge. At your intrusion, they charge!

If the answers you're looking for could fit into Assess, I'd guess that that'd work, Silver. If you're looking for something outside of those boxes, maybe Extend your Senses via an Unleash of your Holmesian Deduction? I suppose it could almost be a Pierce the Mask if you're trying to figure out their motives - but we didn't have a lot of luck trying that against Magmar and Voltron earlier...

Unleash Powers: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 Since I'm really trying to plow straight through them to get to the real heart of this thing it felt more like Unleash, but it's the same roll if it's Directly Engage. If I get some Team help, I'll mark Angry or resist blows as appropriate.
Speaking of Team help
+2 for joining Battle
I'm not sure we have a specific leader at the moment, we've definitely had a few different people giving orders.
I think we all want to protect people and end this thing, but we're going about it in disparate enough ways I don't think we qualify for that.
Unlike in our last fight, I don't think anyone's particularly mistrustful
I don't think we're off-balance or unprepared. The beginning was surprising, but we definitely were able to prepare for battle before we got in the thick of things.
Since when time passes we reset to 1 Team, we should be at 3 Team. Then, Wingblade gave us an opportunity, so that brings us to a Team Pool of 4.

Silver Shadow, examining things isn't too hard to require a roll, and given your Holmesian deduction, even such examinations in the middle of battle aren't too hard for you. In which case, I'll disregard your second roll.
Juskar starts swinging his club made of energy, literally bowling over mobs in a single swing, wrecking them in waves as they start to swarm nearby.
The Silver Shadow descends onto the crowd of enemies and while a non-lethal/ light touch is usually preferred before the masses, sometimes you just need results. You can't even imagine what the crowds behind you are seeing as blood, bolts, and viscera begin spraying around you. No time for that, you need to focus on assessing the enemy as best you can. The world almost fades into shades of grey as you begin accumulating data. You throw your knife into the gut of a goblin, and its blood spews across your face. They bleed. Your fist cracks the ribs of another, and it sputters back. They feel pain. You grab the arm of a robot and twist it, feeling the crack of its metallic arms. Fragile. A quick kick to its spine renders it immobile, and soon its dissolves into nothing. You glance at your knife clattering to the ground, and the crushed chest goblin dissolving away as well.
All the data points to these creatures having an actual existence until the point of "death" in which case they disperse.
A play on the corkscrew maneuver, Wingblade crashes through the window with the force of bullet rather than the spiral. You look up and see rows upon rows of robots sitting at desks, each model wearing glasses, the chassis painted to seem as if they were wearing button up shirts and slacks. They were typing, and all immediately stop and look at you. Even the robots at the oil cooler stop their chatting as they stare at the sudden intruder.
Then they all begin to panic, running around the room in a terror.
No one's chimed in to help Bran, though given the scene you're all spread pretty thin.
Bran begins to make decent progress, his powerful might mighty weapon sweeping through swathes of the enemy. But the enemies still pour out, and for the moment you're being swept away
