Maps | Info | Loot | Talia's Journal

Talivar didn't need to know goblin to understand what the drawing of swords and the nooking of arrows meant. They'd already discussed the plan earlier, he would summon a right proper sea mist foiling the archery and then Urelleth and Killara would unleash hell upon the two on the ground.

All it took was simple rising gesture with his palm and a strange word, "Caligo!" and suddenly he could barely see his hand in front of his face. He then steps away from his companions in case any of the goblins could sling spells.

Pink Monkey Goblin notches an arrow, readying to strike the first foe he spots.

Orange Monkey Goblin does likewise.

Red Monkey Goblin takes a step forward, draws his blade, and slashes at Talia. He cuts a gash into the shaman’s left arm. Red Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23 Damage: 1d4 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 35

Blue Monkey Goblin steps forward, draws his sword, and swings at Uruelleth. He misses the bloodrager entirely. Blue Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18 Damage: 1d4 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 4

Grey Monkey Goblin readies to fire an arrow at the first foe she sees.

Yellow Monkey Goblin does likewise.

Green Monkey Goblin does likewise.

Purple Monkey Goblin does likewise.

He'll still have a miss chance, but you're moving within 5 ft of him. As always, if you know of a rule that contradicts that, please point it out.

Maps | Info | Loot | Talia's Journal

You can absolutely change your action, Uruelleth. That's the first time we've run into that rule, as far as I know. It's a confusing one anyway, trying to tell cover/concealment/total concealment, etc. apart.

I think it's a standard action to dismiss it, was going to cast haste next round and dismiss the round after. Anyway let's see what happens. Edit: per GM discretion wind wall might disperse it anyway.

Maps | Info | Loot | Talia's Journal

The thing about Wind Wall is that the wind effects a fixed area. Effects like Gust of Wind would presumably blow fog/mist/etc. in one direction, but I guess I picture Wind Wall swirling back and forth in its fixed location since the wind is held in place/generated by magic. So all that to say, Wind Wall won't disperse the Obscuring Mist.

Maps | Info | Loot | Talia's Journal

Kilarra, yes, blue and red are the only ones on the ground. All of the ones in the trees are 30 ft up in their squares.

All tiles are difficult terrain, so Talia’s movement will provoke and you’ll only be able to attack once this round, Kilarra.

Talia steps back 5 feet, and immediately casts Wind Wall, ensuring that any arrows would be useless. In doing so, both the red and blue monkey goblins swing their blades at her. The red goblin misses due to the fog, but the blue goblin lands a strike across Talia’s right shoulder.
Red AoO: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21 Damage: 1d4 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 10

Kilarra steps forward, drawing both blades in a flash, and thrusting one at the red goblin! The goblin moves out of the way, avoiding the attack. I included the extra +2, for what it’s worth.

Uruelleth draws one of the sawtooth sabres he's carrying and takes a two-handed grip. Infusing it with additional arcane power, he takes a heavy swing at the red goblin. His aim is true and his swing strong. He cuts a large gash across the goblin’s thigh, but the Egg Sucker still stands.

Talivar casts haste on all of you.

Pink, Orange, Gray, Yellow, Green, and Purple Monkey Goblins ready to fire arrows at the first foe they each see.

Red Monkey Goblin strikes at Kilarra twice. Both strikes land, injuring the slayer. Red Attack 1: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21 Damage: 1d4 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 97 Red Attack 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 Damage: 1d4 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 32

You can't take a five-foot step in difficult terrain. So your step back was a regular move, which was you leaving a threatened square. And that draws AoOs. At least it doesn't require you to make a concentration check!

What Uruelleth said, Talia. : )

Also, the 50 hp Uruelleth has already inflicted should have been listed on the blue goblin since Uruelleth didn’t end up moving. I mention it in case you’re curious why Uruelleth is able to do what he does this round.

To make things simple, I’ll assume Kilarra and Uruelleth delay till after Talivar so they don’t have to worry about miss chance from the mist.

Talia (tbd)

Talivar, with the roar of Talia's wind wall in his ears, knew there was little call for the sea fog anymore. It had served its purpose and with a simple gesture he dismissed it and at once it started to dissipate.

Kilarra grits her teeth and snarls, continuing to press her attacks against the red goblin. Her first strike lands, scoring a blow along the red goblin’s side. All her other attacks miss, most bouncing harmlessly off the goblin’s armor.

Uruelleth snarls at the blue goblin and the lines of red he managed to carve into him. With the magic of the wand coursing through him, he slashes with the enemy's sabre in his hands, turning it into a blunt instrument of death. Death is what he reaps, disemboweling the blue goblin with his first swing. The goblin only manages to look stunned for half a second before his eyes roll back into his head and he falls to the ground dead.

Pink, Orange, Gray, Yellow, Green, and Purple Monkey Goblins fire arrows - two each - at you, but their shots are foiled by Talia’s wall of wind. They scream in anger and prepare to attack again.

Red Monkey Goblin smiles as he finally sees Kilarra clearly and notices that she’s injured. “Your head will make a nice gift for Gawg,” he says in Goblin as he swings at her twice more. His first swing lands, wounding Kilarra more. Red Attack 1: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29 Damage: 1d4 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 Red Attack 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

She was sloppy. These clothes, this helmet... It felt good. Familiar.

Which was the problem.

It brought back memories... Bad memories... Horrible memories... Her father, the confusion, the betrayal, the guilt... The shame. So much shame.

But it brought back the good, too... Feelings of comfort and acceptance. It brought her back to a time when she used to smile. Really smile. When she felt happy. Confident. Like she could take on the world, if only he was at her side.

Him. F***ing Bastien. All that joy, everything he made her feel, was a lie.

Talivar looked at the furious monkey goblins in the tree to the north and the one being cut to ribbons by Urelleth and Kilarra. He sighed, this was going to be messy. With both hands cupping an imaginary ball at waist height he whispered strange words while he pushed with his mind. He felt the barriers between words fraying as his fingers where suddenly dripping snow, and then when he felt the barriers rupture he pulled with his mind and a terrible coldness formed between his hands. Forming a fist he crushed this down to the size of a pea and with another motion he sent it flying towards a tree stump in the middle of the battle. At the very last moment Talivar grabbed his special metamagic rod and willed the coming explosion to miss his friends. At the very last moment Talivar grabbed his special metamagic rod and willed the coming explosion to miss his friends. With a sharp report the world around the stump was plunged into a maelstrom of ice and snow! All but the purple goblin take the full force of Talivar’s icy blast. They look quite a bit more frosty than before, but none of them plunge to the ground.

Red Monkey Goblin sways in place for a moment before steadying himself. He looks at Kilarra with murder in his eyes. Then he strikes... but Talia’s hex and his wounds prove too great and both attacks miss. Pink, Orange, Gray, Yellow, Green, and Purple Monkey Goblins, unable to get at you with their arrows and stinging from Talivar’s spell, decide to take the most logical course of action. The goblins scream as they flee further into Egg Sucker territory, swinging from tree to tree as easily as you walk along the ground. All the monkey goblins are still 30 ft up in their squares (except red, of course).

Talia delays.

Talivar whispered, "Run little rabbits. Run run run..." as the goblins sped away. His heart was cold that day however, they needed to take out the leader of the tribe preferable without all of his braves massing together. So with glacial inevitability Talivar pulled yet more frozen matter into the steamy Mediogalti jungle. With his mind, he compressed it into a tiny pea size bundle and with a casual gesture sent it after the fleeing goblins. It detonated among them with a dull KRUMP, emitting a cataract of ice and snow which flash freezed their sweaty rags. All four goblins are considerably slowed by Talivar’s spell, but the gray and green goblins manage to avoid some of the damage.

Uruelleth lets the sabre in his hand drop as he moves toward the two goblins that did not get engulfed in Talivar's cold ball. While moving, he draws his bow and takes a shot at the pink one. The pink monkey goblin screams as Uruelleth’s arrow lands.

Kilarra returns the goblins glare and attacks. The goblin’s stare turns out to have only been bravado and it falls from Kilarra’s first swing. You can take an extra move action next round, if you want to, Kilarra.

Red Monkey Goblin is dead.

The remaining monkey goblins continue to retreat, albeit more slowly for most of them. Gray is actually 2 squares further up.

You can keep pursuing them, if you want to, and Talivar can certainly continue Fireball’ing them for a bit, but they’re still in the trees, so you’ll have difficulty getting into melee with them. There’s also the matter of the jungle being quite thick and you not knowing exactly what lies ahead. I’m mentioning those things so you can make an informed decision on how to proceed, but it’s still ultimately up to y’all.

With a grunt of effort, Talivar pulled yet more freezing matter into the jungle. With a slow crushing motion he condensed it with his fist before sending the tiny ultra-cold pellet flying lazily towards the fleeing goblins. With a dull crack it exploded into a blizzard of whiteness which seemed otherworldly and incongruous with the dense green jungle foliage all around.

Turning to the others, Talivar now encrusted with slowly melting ice crystals asked them, "We going to give chase or let them go?"

"If it takes three of Talivar's cold bombs to kill off their border guards, the kobolds will be slaughtered if we order them to attack. These Egg Suckers are not like the goblins we fought when we first got here. They die hard."

He pulls out his falchion and breastplate and starts to put it on, accepting help if someone gives it to cut down on the time it takes. "I think we wait to see if Gawg comes, or go to find him, and we only signal the attack once he's dead."

Talivar is able to finish off the gray, yellow, green, and purple monkey goblins with his latest fireball.

Kilarra and Uruelleth are able to wound the remaining two monkey goblins further, but not enough to stop them. The monkey goblins soon escape further into Egg Sucker territory.

When Kilarra searches the bodies, she finds a magical steel lamellar set of armor, a magical chain shirt, two magical shortswords, two magical capes, and two magical rings.

So are y'all chasing after them, but not signaling the kobolds yet? If you're chasing, are you just pursuing as quickly as possible?

Talivar nodded at Urelleth's words, these goblins where rock hard, "Agreed it would go badly for the Kobolds. Do we want to catch the others? If so we need to go now while haste lasts"

He noticed Kilarra downing potions, "Ah well never mind. They're alerted now. I saw we circle this area about a mile out and try to sneak in from the other side. If they're all holed up by their leader, it's just more meat for the grinder..."

Later, Talivar examines the loot:

Kilarra considers this. "Yeah, I guess. Let's circle around and try to sneak in on the other side. We do need to call in the kobolds, but it doesn't have to be just yet."

Since I’ll probably be away for a few days, now would be a good time to discuss the specifics of your plan. Are you going to take any other precautions besides circling around? Stealth, invisibility, etc? What’s your plan once you encounter monkey goblins again? What’s your criteria for signaling the kobolds? What’s your cue to strike if you encounter the monkey goblins but they don’t see you? Do you have any standards for fleeing if things look bad? *Insert any other questions you can address ahead of time.*

Also, be sure to go ahead and address any healing y'all still need. I think Kilarra's the only one who's rolled for healing so far.

Given the similarity of some items, Talivar is able to identify all of them.

Maps | Info | Loot | Talia's Journal

You make your way through the jungle, circling around to the other side of Egg Sucker territory before venturing into the heart of their domain. Though you hear the occasional monkey goblin yell, the jungle is much more quiet than when you first arrived in the tribe’s land.

Talivar’s confident in the group’s direction as you continue onward. He occasionally spots a monkey goblin swinging through the trees in the distance, but never for long.

You’re approaching what must surely be the center of Egg Sucker territory when you start to hear the sound of running water. The sound grows louder and louder till you reach the edge of a clearing and see the source of the water for yourselves.

A waterfall crashes down on one side of the clearing before flowing south to north. Several large rocks rise next to the stream. Within the open area is what surely must be the center of Egg Sucker domain.

At the very top of the tallest rock in the clearing stands a heavily armored monkey goblin. A greatsword rests on his back and longbow rests in his hands. The other monkey goblins that you can see mostly hold longbows of their own, though a few hold short swords and shields. They all seem to be searching the area surrounding the clearing. You are concealed by the thick jungle for now.

Besides the monkey goblins and the natural aspects of the clearing, one other feature stands out. On the west side of the stream, hanging from a tree in the air are three human-sized, metal cages. Two contain humanoid corpses that have long since passed away. The third, however, appears to still contain a living person. Though the man is battered and bruised, you recognize him. It's Lork.

Lork’s hands are tied behind his back to a bar on one side of his cage and his feet are tied together as well. Dried blood runs down one side of his face. He currently appears to be looking down at nothing.

Map added to the maps slides.
All forested tiles count as difficult terrain. The rock near the center of the map (with black, red, orange, and pink goblins) is 40 ft high. The rocks near the waterfall and the rock grey is on are 30 ft high. Lork is 20 ft high.
Keep in mind that the map is only intended to show the monkey goblins you could see from your current position. There are almost certainly other monkey goblins in the surrounding area.

Talivar whispered to Urulleth and Killara, "Ever wanted to fly?" He grinned before suggesting, "We'll need to choose which ones we attack first, and summon another mist to foil archery."

So maybe an obscuring mist on the rocks to the north? Wandering star motes might be handy here too.

Kilarra quickly pulls out and drinks two potions, (invisibility, shield), then focuses her attention on the... (colour pending) goblin. (Studied Target)

The rock ledges the goblins are on, is there an easy way to climb up there, or a sloped side, or are they very steep? If they're sloped Kilarra will studied target blue and white and plan to approach that way. If it's not sloped she'll instead studied target green lower blue and intend to approach and attack those ones.

As to fly, I feel like you should keep it for yourself or a later fight. She might come to regret that, but I don't think she needs it to start right now.

Also, reminder in advance for GM, Kilarra has woodland stride now, so this difficult terrain won't bug her.

When the surprise round happens, Kilarra will creep closer to whichever target she studied targeted, moving slowly and silently. I'll position her after I know her target.

Kilarra, the rock with Gawg (black) is sloped on the east (right) side, so you can approach that rock from the east if you want to avoid climb checks. The rock to the south (bottom) is sloped to the east right next to where you're standing, so you can approach that way without climb checks. Thank you for the reminder about Woodland Stride.

The stream is narrow and shallow enough that you can walk across without checks.

For everyone: I believe most of you are planning on buffing yourselves to one degree or another before engaging. Please be sure to list those out, preferably in the gameplay thread (if you haven't already), before we get combat started.
