Mailhain's Inffintite Prison

Game Master Zelit

Home brew with Golarion roots

1 to 50 of 72 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

I like many of you have been trying to get in to a Play by Post campaign. And like so many of you, I scrambled to make a build for one game, only to be drowned out by others. Others like myself.

Now that I have been lurking around, I see many of these campaigns that I so desperately wanted to be part of peter out. Some times its the GM and some times its the players. But in the end it seems these things are doomed at the start.

Also, I have noticed that the rate of play is molasses slow. I myself would require my characters to get to know each other before starting any game. But I am in one game that has been going on for a week and all that has been accomplished is a gate got closed. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, but I was hoping for a little bit more.

So I have come to my decision to try my hand at this play by post stuff. So if you are willing to trust in a old GM new to the play by post scene I will be excepting applicants

So, now to the matter at hand...

You have been born in a prison. There are no walls, no bars, no doors. In fact it's as if you where free. But the storytellers all tell the same stories and you can't help but think they are real. The stories are of prisons built for gods. They have earth and sky but they are not real only made to look real in the eye of the prisoners. Most people in this prison don't even know they are inside. They are born and live and die without even knowing there was something wrong. And in these stories there are a few exceptional people, who figure out how the prison works and can move between worlds. Rising in power they learn of the true purpose of the prison, and the hidden prize within. Eventually these extraordinary individuals escape the prison and are free to live a life beyond imagining.

You are just a person born in the prison. But you know the stories are real. Your not sure why, but you know. Everyone else says it is just stories, but something deep within you knows. You are not a god, and are not guilty of any crime against the gods. And since you are not what the prison was built for, you have a chance to escape.

==================
Character Creation Rules:
==================
1) NO guns. (unless I give them to you)
2) Core Races.(Aasimars and Tieflings are core as far as I am concerned)
3) 25 pointy buy.
4) Average starting gold. (or roll for it your choice)
5) 2 traits.
6) No 3PP. (well, if it makes for and interesting character I might consider it. If I can reference it.)
7) Max hit points (you will need them)
8) NO evil alignments.( also willing to give here, but no back stabbing double dealing larcenous perverted worms...Kill, KILL. Sorry, I get excited sometimes. Lawful evil is as far as I go and am thinking of running one table just for them. But if you go to far I will...you get the picture.

==================
Application:
==================
Spoiler 1 -> Background (Although it is important to develop the character of your character, it is also important to master brevity without sacrificing impact.)
Spoiler 2 -> Crunch (Try to make it a stat block please. It is just easier to read)
Spoiler 3 -> Projected path for levels (a concept or theme, so I can award you proper magic items)
Spoiler 4 -> Any stat blocks for Animal Companions or Familiars if applicable

==================
Notes:
==================
Please be aware that I will be using Mythic materials, so please do at least preliminary research into the various Mythic paths.

Most of the time you will be asked to do set pieces. That is I will give you a task and you and your party are to complete it. They will be short and we will be using the fast advancement track. Most set pieces are one encounter long.

All characters will have one item or creature that I can not mess with. You can change this protection before or after a set piece

I like to give items that become part of the character. Such as swords that level up as the character does. If you want one of these items please make me aware of the fact. You might not get what you wanted but you certainly will not be disappointed.

I like giving treasure, but you will use it.

And if you fell lucky, before or after a set piece you can draw from the deck of many things. Rolling a straight d20 and living with the results.

I caution all applicants if you can not post multiple times a day don't even try, I will be running more than one table (not sure how many). I will post two to three times at least on the weekdays. Weekends are iffy. So if you can't keep up please don't try. Yes I understand real life happens. But if you can give me a heads up, I will try my best to keep you in the game. If things don't change in a week I might have to give some one else a chance. Sorry, to anyone who gets the axe.

Yes, I am a terrible speller.

If you are confused ask a question, I will reply

I think that is everything

Very much interested. I don't mind giving a full projected path, can you tell me what levels you intend to go up towards (1-???) so I know how far to go.

Just one more question, do you allow the paizo Mythic Path abilities set out for godlings of specific deities, such as the Transcendent Self Mythic ability for Irori godlings. I had a RP idea for a character (as to why he might be in the prison, but if you don't feel comfortable with them, flavor or otherwise, that's perfectly ok.

Currently thinking of an Aasimar Blackfire Adept or a Purifier Oracle, but would consider going Monk if Transcendant Self was available.

It's an interesting concept, and I'm interested. I have a few questions, however.

Will you allow a non-human tiefling? Probably a halfling.

Any restrictions on classes other than gunslingers?

How did we get training and our equipment in this prison? Were we allowed access to other prisoners and what was the quality of life like? These would be helpful when creating a character's background and such.

Edit: As clarification, when I say "tiefling halfling" I mechanically mean a tiefling, but small.

Hello, I've been working on this character for a while and I hope he sees some use in this quite interesting campaign. I've had his background down for a while, but I'll try to convert it to this campaign best I can. I'm going to post the original background for now until I have time to update it.

Background:

Born the bastard son of an exiled drow noble and a young Human woman, Alistair sought out information on his father his entire life. During his childhood he heard tales of a deity known as Nethys, the god of magical knowledge. He knew the only way to find the identity of his father was to follow Nethys, and through his faith, gain immense knowledge into all forms of magic. I hope to expand on this, but for now this is all I have.

Progression:

I'll be taking the Mystic Theurge Prestige class with this character starting at 4th level, due to having spell-like abilties from the Drow Magic racial trait and the Trickster domain. The progression will be something along the lines of Cleric 1/Sorcerer 2/Mystic Theurge X

I was also thinking about going into the Evangelist prestige class after Mystic Theurge is complete, this would hopefully allow me to take more then 10 "levels" of Mystic Theurge. This would technically use an alternate rule as I would be taking more then 10 levels of a 10 level class, so I just thought I'd ask your opinion now.

Yes. Yes. A million times Yes.
I feel as you do about the trying to get into a game thing...I don't even like pbp but you make me want to play. I can post often enough to please I feel.

I want to give this a lot of thought and put together something you will find useful and I will enjoy playing.

I want a Human Caster of some sort that is a Harrower. I have him...maybe her.. pretty much fleshed out character wise in my mind.

I'll have something up for you Sunday.

Q: Where can I find out how to post a Stat block like you desire on here? I've seen them done but do not know how to do them.

@ginganinja: I'm not sure how far I want to take this. 20th lvl+ if I can manage it. As for the Mythic Path, if you can tell me which book its in or quote what you what I will consider it.

@ImperialSunlight: Yes nonhuman tieflings are fine. I prefer elven Aasimars myself. No restrictions on classes I can think of just give me a reference (such as which book and page. Or you can write it out and I will consider it). As for the prison, for all intents and purposes there is no prison. You just hear stories about it. But some how you know that you are in it. It will be explained later. You can be from anywhere on Golarion and start with what ever you can afford. As for access to other levels of the prison, you will get access as you progress.

@Alistus: I'm hoping to take this beyond 20th lvl. So we will hit epic material. And taking more than 10 lvls of a ten lvl class will be fine.

@Inner Heru: Stat blocks should look like this

Gordo challenged the right to lead his clan, the Dolagods, through unarmed combat. His opponent Varma, son of the previous leader, poisoned Gordo's food before the fight. Gordo was extremely sick during the fight, coughing up blood. This looked like he was being beaten by Varma, but Varma's weak strikes could never have made Gordo bleed. Eventually, Gordo collapsed from sickness, not blows from Varma. Gordo blamed Gorum for causing him to be sick during his fight, not realizing that he had instead been poisoned. While cursing Gorum, he fell into a deep slumber and awoke in this empty prison. So much for cursing Gorum...

Excellent, hopefully I get the chance to be a part of it! Your method of statblocking is the same as mine when it comes down to me making an alias for actual posting, so if I do get chosen to play mine will match that. If you need any other information from me just let me know, I'll probably be lurking around here for a while tonight.

I currently have 29 aliases with 13 of them getting in a campaign for some length or other and 4 that are in a current, ongoing campaign.
What does this mean?
I know well of building characters that dont make it in campaigns or that die out really quickly and i enjoy multiple campaigns BECAUSE they are so slow and i am on often. And i like making characters ^_^

1st level, fast progression, future mythic, potential epic, prisoners-but-they-dont-know-it matrix style, core races, 25pb and max hps?
Hmmm.
First thought is a barbarian because of the max hps but let me take a looksee :)

@Viviana Masters that's fine

If i can use this mythic ability from the link that Viviana posted, i know what i want to do :)

mythic path ability wrote:

*World Breaker (Ex) [Rovagug]* ("Mythic Origins pg. 11"
" (Amazon
)"): As a free action after you confirm a critical hit with a melee weapon, you can expend one use of mythic power to shatter the ground beneath your foe. This creates difficult terrain in an area centered on your target with a radius equal to 10 feet × your tier. You movement is not impeded by the difficult terrain created by this effect. By expending two uses of mythic power when you use this ability, you can create an additional shock wave that extends beneath your target's feet in a cylinder with a depth equal to 5 feet × your tier. If this shock wave breaks the surface of the floor (such as if you used this ability on the second floor of a building), the area beneath the target collapses entirely and anyone in the area lands prone on the level below (possibly incurring falling damage in the process).

I would build up a breaker barbarian or two handed fighter (probably fighter) revolving around the sunder line of feats that wields a piston maul and worships Rovagug. He believes that by destroying his surroundings he can break free of this prison he supposedly lives in.

@Gobo Horde: I don't see a problem. Just one question. Are you looking at a spot on the evil table?

I'm going to log off for the night. Continue to post, I'll catch up in the morning.

P.S. Thanks for the enthusiasm.

Sounds like it's a kind of metaphysical prison. Very interesting.

I'll have my halfling tiefling so-far-cleric-of-some-kind-unless-I-change-my-mind-as-I-often-do done by tomorrow.

Applying with this character

Mogwagis strong, tough and smart. Years in the Gladiatoral Ring had made him used to combat and skilled in the usage of weapons and performance. Also known as the 'boring, silent one', matches with Mogwag tend to be short and relatively boring as it usually involved Mogwag bringing his opponent out of the ring himself. Mogwag however was unlike most Gladiators,
Cale liked studying. He studied about farming and how best to make the most out of it. An ambitious carrer path unlike his peers, Mogwag wanted to be an explorer.

Mogwag despite his best efforts at farming somehow became the butt of jokes.

----
Mogwag will level up as a straight oracle

I hadnt thought about alignment yet, really i think i would rather play CN and with the "good guys" then on the evil side of things

I've got an idea I'd like to try. Works as a Wizard/Magus, but even better as an Arcanist. How do you feel about ACG playtest classes?

Background:

Basic idea is a tiefling that was 'kept for study' while growing up by infernalist wizards researching ways to trap, bind, trick and compel outsiders. Picked up snippets of magic and finally escaped his cage, only to find that rather than the freedom he'd envisioned he had the eerie sense he had simply escaped into a larger cage.

@Gobo Horde: Ok, I was just checking.

@Harakani: ACG playtest classes are ok with me.

I had an idea for a half-orc cavalier that would be out to prove himself to the world. He thinks the world is unjust and he has to make a space for himself in it. He'd probably be a gruff but likable guy and a natural leader. At 4th lv I want to take the monstrous companion feat to get a Warg mount.

Dark Archive

I'm thinking of applying as a Aasimar(Half-Orc flavored with the Lawbringer racials, specifically thinking he's the kin of a Shield Archon and probably progress in a manner of having him fight in the manner a Shield Archon fights(Spear and Shield) ) I'm trying to decide between Fighter and Paladin at the moment so I was hoping to learn on how gods exactly function in the prison? Is there religion(is it the traditional pathfinder pantheon?)

Zelit do you have a rough estimate as to when we would expect to turn mythic, just so I can sort out the ordering of my feats and character progression.

ImperialSunlight here. Both the background and crunch is finished. If the way I do stat blocks is problematic, say so and I'll format it like yours.

Appearance

Cadwal is a very short humanoid, smaller than even most halflings. He has many notably demonic features that make him stand out terribly. He has eyes made of gold, a third eye in his forehead, torn apart wings with slimy red feathers, scaled skin with slight touches of red and gold, a forked tongue, and a large prehensile reptilian tail lashing behind him. He has short, bright red hair and sharp features. He has a somewhat androgynous, but mostly masculine appearance.

He wears a suit of red-dyed scale armor over light clothing with traditional Osirian design, clerical vestments emblazoned with bright symbols of Wadjet, and a cheap golden earring. His clothing is roughly adapted to fit his wings and tail.
--------------------
Background
--------------------
Cadwal was born to a family of halfling farmers living in the human kingdom of Osirion, on the banks of the River Sphinx. While born a hermaphrodite, he was raised as and identifies as male. As his asura features became obvious, his parents at first sheltered him away. They were kind parents, but did not want to risk letting him out of their sight until he was older. Because of this, he was socially and intellectually limited. He developed a stutter in his speech that remains with him still. Their religious tendencies also caused fear and superstition of Cadwal's origins, which made his childhood a hardship.

He spent much of this time in religious study, a calling he took to with such zeal that his parents were relieved of any doubts of him. He learned the nature of his curse, that he was a mistake by the gods themselves, and so he devoted himself to the Green Empress Wadjet with absolute faith, hoping that would offer him some redemption for his birth.

He continued to live with his parents and helped on the farm, but they eventually grew old, and Cadwal had no way to provide for them besides turning to crime, something he did with great sorrow. He wished to follow the laws of Wadjet fully, a path that did not look kindly upon such deception, but had to make exceptions in order to care for his loved ones. But they eventually died, and he was left alone.

He could not take care of the farm alone, and seeing that this was an opportunity to explore the world, an aspect of Wadjet's faith, he sold it and left on an endless journey, spreading her word to all he could. He did not know where she would guide him, but had faith that wherever it was, it is where he should be.

The general plan with him is to specialize in debuffing, save or die, etc. and stay in cleric until mythic, then take the hierophant path.

@Zain Ashvale: All non-prisoner gods are available, as they have helped create the prison in the past. So select as if you were on Golarion.

@ginganinja:

Rough estimate of mythic tiers:
Tier 1=6th, tier 2=7th, tier 3=9th, tier 4=11th, tier 5=12th, tier 6th=14th, tier 7=15th, tier 8=16th, tier 9=18th, tier 10=20th

@Cadwal: Mythic tiers are gained in addition to character lvls. So for instants by 14th lvl you would be a 14th lvl cleric/6th Mythic tier. See above for a rough estimate

Hello Inner Heru here.

I can't seem to get the command right for 3d10x10 on here.
Can anyone give me some pointers?

Anaca Zoratovah
Here is my aristocratic Harrowing Witch for submission.

Background:
Charmed? Anaca is far more than that, far better than that. Anaca is a Zoratovah! The Zoratovahs are of very old blood, timeless and powerful. Her family's vast fortune and political might are synonymous with their name to most within the realm but what only scare few know is the whys and hows. Zoratovahs have a connection to and a sense of the machinations of Fate.
Well placed wagers, a trip postponed or moved up, backing this Noble or that one. Lines of fate tugged at ever so slightly or tied into knots and tangles. This has been the power of Zoratovah daughters chosen by the Winter Maw, a force within Creation that marks some daughters with pale white hair and skin like snow. Daughters like Anaca.

As has always been the case with Zoratovah Fate Witches, Anaca has a survival of the fittest attitude and a loyalty to her Kin first and the realm second. Of course she feels what is best for the realm is her kin and their power. To this end she has thrown herself into her art and is always seeking to grasp more from the world with it.
Anaca has become driven to unlock the secrets that Creation holds, to master Time and Destiny itself so that she may ascend the halls of political power and eclipse even the tales of her Foremothers.

She is both Beauty and Beast. A stunning young woman of 19 years, her looks in opposition to a cold and calculating mind. She holds herself as a woman of her station should and her classist ideals are worn on her sleeve. At the very same time she sees the commoner as the backbone of the realm, a needed cog in the grand clock that is Society and thus peasants need to be protected and well maintained like any tool.

"Noblesse oblige" her farther would say and she carries that lesson with her today.

Special Abilities
--------------------
Cold Flesh (Ex) At 1st level, a winter witch gains endure elements as a constant spell-like ability, but only against cold temperatures. At 4th level, she gains cold resistance 5, making her comfortable in near-freezing temperatures. At 9th-level, this increases to cold resistance 10, and at 14th level, it becomes immunity to cold.
This replaces the witch’s 4th-level hex.

Ice Magic: When casting a spell with the cold descriptor, the save DC of the spell increases by +1. She cannot learn or cast spells with the fire descriptor.

Bonus Cantrip: Ray of Frost is added to her list.

Spell List:
Cantrips: All 0-lvl plus Ray of Frost

1st: Cause Fear, Ear Piercing Scream, Ill-Omen, Mage Armor, Mount, Obscuring Mist, Ray of Sickening (Fav Class: 1st)

Progression:
I intend for her to be a dedicated Debuffer with a touch of Buff here and there. Anaca will be a heavy theme type with a focus on The Harrow and her Icy aspects. As for PrC I am all in with Harrower for now unless something better Harrow related pops up in the new book before I get there (Assuming it will be allowed by you heh).

The Harrow Deck is going to be as much a Character as Anaca herself.

Special: Alertness (Ex): While a familiar is within arm's reach, the master gains the Alertness feat.

Improved Evasion (Ex): When subjected to an attack that normally allows a Reflex saving throw for half damage, a familiar takes no damage if it makes a successful saving throw and half damage even if the saving throw fails.

Share Spells: The wizard may cast a spell with a target of “You” on his familiar (as a touch spell) instead of on himself. A wizard may cast spells on his familiar even if the spells do not normally affect creatures of the familiar's type (magical beast).

Empathic Link (Su): The master has an empathic link with his familiar to a 1 mile distance. The master can communicate empathically with the familiar, but cannot see through its eyes. Because of the link's limited nature, only general emotions can be shared. The master has the same connection to an item or place that his familiar does.

Definitely interested. I will post an Alias profile today.

Khrome, level 1 Aasimar wizard (future cleric/wizard multiclass mystic-theurge). Seeking to discover the secrets of the Prison.

Missing gear yet but as a wizard I wont need much aside from my heavy crossbow.

All else in the alias profile.

Plan is to be spell support/buffer, and use gravity bow, true strike and my heavy crossbow(rapid reload) to provide artillery support as spells get used up.

With so many people wanting to play casters, I think I will plan on submitting a Halfling Ninja. It would stick with Ninja all the way, and go TWF. Will post the build + crunch + backstory up later when time allows.

Sorry folks, for my disappearance but Memorial Day got the better of me. I'll be on for a couple hours if anyone has a question.

Not going to lie, I've been reloading this page constantly for the past few hours, guess I'm just excited about!

@Inner Heru: working on it.

@Alistus: I plan on keeping this recruitment open a few more days. But I won't lie, I'm thinking of keeping everyone so far. Maybe different threads.

I don't blame you, lot's of well built characters in here. Can't wait to see this thing through!

@Inner Heru: Still working on it. But if worse comes to worse you can just roll the 3d10 and multiply it yourself

Ok, logging of for the night I will pick it up in the morning.

Hehe so it's not just me. When I saw like Thousands: 3d1001 ⇒ (475, 26, 675) = 1176 of gold, I knew something was wrong.

Liberty's Edge

Is this a Homebrew world, and are you using the pathfinder gods or something else?

@Flashohol: Yes this is a Homebrew world starting on Golarion. So I will be using everything pathfinder.

Cool I didn't miss it. I post many times a day and play in a few PBP now but have been part of many that have died as well. I feel your pain. I would love to be in an active posting 5-10times a day game. I am on the boards 7am-4pm M-F eastern time from work. I work in IT so paizo is always open and i'm always looking around or posting or what not. I will do either a tiefling or aasimar paladin going that can go either Champion, Guardian, or Marshal for mythic. Going to work on crunch and things now. :)

Alias of Ashe

Sweet I had Tyr pretty much ready to go. His backstory is kind of vanilla. I did this so he could fit into other games that came up. His AC is going to be bad until level 3, Will be taking a level or Oracle Lore with sidestep secret. Will probably take extra revelation along the line as well for focused study and have all Knowledges and be able to the the +20 to them with a a few moments of thinking. I will be either hospitaler or Oath of Vengance. Undecided now. 4th level is a ways off so will play it by ear. Thanks. Let me know if you would like a more indepth backstory.

Flash here.
I'm in the process of recycling an old Alias. (This one) Sorcerer of either Arcane or Aberrant bloodline.

Official Application.

Background:
Castiel has always been a bit strange but that wasn't a problem until a few years ago when he first noticed his abilities. His parents are boring unadventurous folk from the country. When his power first became apparent and his mind deteriorated Cass's parents sent him away to get help and protect him from people who would use his abilities for nefarious purpose. He disappeared the night before by following a rabbit through the forest and to the road, a task he always found difficult on his own as he would almost always become lost. So now mostly on his own for the first time he travels the world with Prophet the bunny following his own path led by intuition, strange dreams and a very lucky rabbit.

@Wogwag, Harakani, Dalgar, and Valonia: It will help me out to have an alignment.

My mistake, it was listed on her Profile, not on the Crunch which I posted, terrible oversight on my part.

Shes Chaotic Neutral

Good night all.

Night.

Good luck to everyone
