For those investigating hidden room. Just let me know if you are starting with the papers with names and notes, the frosted metal cabinet, or the sofa and coffee table area.

Also... Sunny has gone to bed. Holfstedt paid for an extra room here for your use, if you care to use whenever you decide to rest. There are rooms already rented by Sunny and a couple others too.

There are four rooms at the bed and breakfast... each corner of the building.
The crime scene (room3) is the southwest room.
Clio and Vern live in the southeast room (room2)
The Moranni Group is staying in the northeast room (room1)
The northwest room is available and paid for (room4)

The street is west, empty market square... West of square are residences
to the north is chaplain Sverin's residence... North of that is the chapel
To the south is the town hall/warden'soffice... South of that is the belching badger
To the east (back alley)... Further east is crafter's square

Jus' awaitin' tha' dawn's early light. (^_~)

Incidentally... the gem glowing and inkpen rises about an hour after Corum said some should rest. It is up to you if you have gone to sleep yet.
Since rest is important, here is my default assumption of party placement at the time of the gem glowing.

Zed and Corum are up.
Varian has not gone to sleep yet

-one hour of rest
Braxton is passed out on the couch.
Lyrralt is sleeping in the main room of Room3

-two hours of rest
Sunny in her room with Suny at the Belching Badger.

Something I forgot to mention... The Warden told you Brother Sverin would give you some time before coming for the body, but you do expect him sometime tonight.

So Corum passes on the message for a rendezvous which appears to have been intended for the ugothol tenant, and you get your rest?

Decide on plan in the morning?

Also... Mayor Doyle has not been questioned (or looted other than his cane)

HP 30/ 30; Perc +3; Init +4; AC 20(21)Defensive:23

Thought some one from the town itself was seeing to the proper dealings with the deceased?

T'is not quite the proper thing to have the body 'Looted' before whom ever is related gets to see them on their way. :P

Though looking for 'clues' would seem all right and proper, of course. ;)

Brother Sverin has yet to arrive by the time you wake up.

Mayor Doyle - last you left him, he was unconscious but stable. He is being held by Karthak at Errik's House along with the child witch, and Zed's copy.

Two kudos to hand out.

DM, this story of yours is quite interesting and well done. I feel I am in a quality gothic horror adventure.

New players, way to up the posting rate in quality and quantity. Definitely keeping the story interesting.

Thanks... still learning how to adapt to storytelling in this medium.

and I agree... good to have the new players.

Added some NPC images to Campaign info >here< to help sort out who is who.

To clarify to those who have been busy...

The hidden room - within Room 3 at Clio and Vern's Bed and Breakfast, appears to have been an intel gathering outpost for the ugothol memory stealing and identity/form stealing... as well as the dwelling of the ugothol who had been posing as Holfstedt (when he refused Lyrralt's offer regarding using the bath at the Belching Badger)
While you were there during watches, a message arrived (which is assumed to have been meant for the ugothol you killed in the room) giving orders to close down operations at Room 3, "gather your collections", and go to wherever this Migthwet is. In order to get through the alleged "ring of burrowing undead" the receiver of the message is meant to meet duergar scouts to lead them (and present the parchment bearing the message to let the scouts know who you are)

Zed and Corum are heading up the plan for you to meet with the duergar scouts... pretending to be the intended receiver of the message and your ugothol clones.

I will move gameplay along toward the meeting in a few RL hours.

Once again, thanks for the original and creative story DM.

May want to see if you can sell paizo this one!

*Nods* Agreed it's being an awesome time.

So...how many are the bad guys expecting at the meeting? Does this mean that we are kind of in two groups? Those playing the part and those others sneaking along?

Very much cheers to every one.

Corum can make all that fit in a large circle invisible.

Still, story is we are all baddies and shifters.

Zed can pull it off!

Sorry I haven't been posting I had a change in management at work and preparing for Gen Con I haven't had time to catch up on the story. I will be out for the rest of the week due to Gen Con but promise I will be back to my posting next week. Sorry again if I have caused any problems.

HP 30/ 30; Perc +3; Init +4; AC 20(21)Defensive:23

No worries here. Hope you have a great time at the Con. I am just a tad envious. ;)

NP Braxton... I've been busy as well... basement flooded again.

I will be ready to continue tomorrow morning.

Ok. Are you doing the invisibility sphere now? If so, who is in and out?

HP 30/ 30; Perc +3; Init +4; AC 20(21)Defensive:23

Sorry, I might be jumping the gun but Corum's idea is just too awesome to pass up. :)

So...the duo who can pass themselves off as 'copies' move in seen and the rest of us try all sneakin' up on 'em, like.

Sounds like a good plan?

Yaay! Good to know everything is going swell for you Varian. (^_^)

The message meant for the ugothol in room3 which you received gave instructions and a map to meet duergar scouts... who would lead you to Migthwet at the Sleeping Ferry through the "ring of undead" supposedly surrounding the village. From what you have discovered, Migthwet was the creator of the ugothol of room3 - if not all of them.

The duergar have apparently been attacked by the undead, and have given the impression they are supposed to be on the same side.

The duergar scouts have just mentioned they are planning to go back to the lumberyard instead of waiting any longer for the ugothol.

It is up to you what you do. The plan was to pretend to be the ugothol (and others pretend to be their clones while Corum pretends to be Mayor Doyle) The sender of the message said to show the message to the scouts so they would know they were meeting who they were supposed to.
But you do not have to do that.

You can fight these guys and question them, let them go and follow them (though you already know where the lumberyard is), let them go and look for the Sleeping Ferry yourselves, go back to the village and do whatever...

Sunny:
You know something about the Sleeping Ferry... the note you found under the stairs at the bed and breakfast.

Sunny the old note found under the stairs:
The note looks like it was ripped from a journal. It reads...

"My name is Thulfi Horth, and I am twelve. I came here with my dad... he said go play but their son is creepy! I hid and listened. Father told his friends he was leaving me and my brother here!! He said someone would come and make us forget who we are!! Help me! I am hiding here. If you help me, you can have my horse, Oakee.

PS Father is angry because my brother fought with him, and he knew we found the Sleeping Ferry. My brother said he is a bad man and would tell me why later but what if father makes him forget that too?!

Sleeping Ferry is real!! We woke up on the other side of the river!!"

anyone against returning to the village now? if so please speak up.

are you using any light? ... it is currently 30 minutes from dawn.

HP 30/ 30; Perc +3; Init +4; AC 20(21)Defensive:23

I thought we all were?

We know where the Dark Dwarves are going. Suny has an idea where this 'Ferry' thing is. Plus the Dark Dwarves have given us a direction, any ways.

Getting back to town and helping the folks there would seem to be the done and proper thing to do.

(^_^)

Wishing every one all the very best.

Parsing information from the duergar

He referred to a Quadrivium... four of something

three cubes and a vault

It sounds like the cubes are portals and/or house some sort of demiplanes known as

the Academy (aka Celeriton)... he mentioned the cube was in the village
the Library... (this is what Holfstedt Moranni had stolen from the Descendents of the Silver Sun then lost) it has been implied that Magnus Horth has the cube.
the Barracks (aka Legatos)... he mentioned the duergar have the cube, and the duergar are under the lumbermill.

the vault leads to

the Timeless Garden (the Garden, Timeless Place)... when he thought Zed was the ugothol infiltrator from Room3, he mentioned this is where the consciousness of the shapechanging "skin suit's" real body lies, frozen in time.

You entered the village in the wide alley north of a boarding house and Errik's house. You passed the three old women exiting the boarding house (E on the Doyle's Run village map in Campaign info) they then passed you as you were speaking with the watchman, and continued to the fountain to fill their buckets. After filling their buckets they came back this way... one rather quickly - interrupting Corum and Varian's inspection of a suspicious bird.(Corum only had time to determine it emitted a magic aura)
They have heard some of your discussion, and spotted the Mayor's cane held by Corum. They have "surrounded" you as three birds seem to have flown into Errik's house. They have expressed interest in freeing the child witch held captive. While they have not outright attacked yet, their intent seems hostile.

Behind the spoiler

Two birds got into the house before Drulsk shut the door. One got into the room in which Tilda the child witch is being held (where Sunny and Suny are). That bird turned into an imp, and touched rings with Tilda (after Tilda opened the adjoining door so the bird/imp could see where Mayor Doyle was being held). It is now trying to squeeze through the bars in the south window to escape.

HP 30/ 30; Perc +3; Init +4; AC 20(21)Defensive:23

Yeah...am hoping for maybe some more information from young Tilda as to what might be going on with that.

Still...is all fun. (^_^)
