Mighty Male Kobold (Red) Fighter 1

Yolp picks himself up and loudly croaks a bit before replying; it's been a while since he's had water, but he doesn't seem to realize it yet.

This filth was the one who stole the eggs from our nest. We've brought him here for torture, per usual. I think the rusty hooks should do well for this one. Glory to the Sootscales!

Yolp hurries inside to look for a drink.


"Surely the Chief will want to see you 2, Reg will escort to him." Vrek says pointing one of the others 2 warrior at the entrance "I'll also call the hatchery so they will recover the eggs, and I'm sure Tartuk will be very interested in having the human for his torture."


About the guard turns, I'll say, unless you decide differently, that for the team of 3 kobold, and since Oozulla is the only one who now needs 8 hours of uninterrupted rest to prepare their spell you can go with something like this:
8 hours of camping, from 6 AM to 2 PM. Szzlax watching the first 4 hours, Fyrenmar watching the second 4 hours, Oozulla sleeping all the 8 hours.
In this way, counting the watch turn as recover, both Szlaax and Fyrenmar will be no more fatigued.
Do you agree?
If so, rolls a Perception check for each watch turn.

About the others 2 at the Lair, are you going to reply something to the guards at the entrance, or shall we go fast-forward to the meeting with the Chief? Did Yolp's player survive the Chicago weekend?

When Oozulla woke up, there was still sun outside, but cave Szzlax found was very great, small entry allowed her to guard it without going outside. While guarding, she took human hand prepared by Szzlax and enjoyed it. "Hmm, human meat is much more gentle than troll one was. Or probably that was grilling and not boiling. Need to try that next time I get troll captured.".
As soon as sun went a bit down to horizon, she started to hiss and whistle, "speaking" and petting Myrkky. This action gently woke up her friends.

After her friends woke up, Oozulla said:

"I prepared a new magic for today: I can scare one of them to run away or put couple to sleep. But most of my preparation are for distractions" - she made a gesture to make a glowing figure to appear. It looked like a flexible puma was walking in dark part of cave, with a moonlight reflecting of her wet fur. "Probably, this can lure them out one by one".

"As well I can set things, like tents on fire or whisper directly to you", she pointed finger on Fyrenmar, "and to you", she showed on Szzlax. "As I whisper, you can answer by whispering back and I hear you".

Ok, looks like I'm ready. While we have a minute, I'm learning my guys how to use message walkie-talkie :)


Unless you want to stay camped for 12 hours, Oozulla watch in this moment is unnecessary.
To speed up the camping time, and for the next times when guards will be done, I'm for going with something like this:
You decide what's the turns schedule, then everyone rolls a Perception check for his turn. If something happens in those turn I'll tell you after those rolls. Anyway...

Nothing noteworthy happened in those 8 hours, you camped from 6 AM to 2 PM, and now are ready to track again those horsed men.
Roll me a Survival check, you can also use the Aid Another option to provide assistance to the main tracker (Szzlax I suppose)

Yik Klik leans on his staff, thoroughly exhausted by the trek.

"Yes take us to the chief so we can report. Then I will sleep!"

Making sure the human is covered and guarded before he leaves, he turns and wanders into the den.


At the Lair:
Yik Klik and Yolp are escorted by Reg to the Chief.
You found him in his room while he is talking with Nyd, one of his personal guards you have already met.
Roll me a Perception check, DC 15, to see if you can hear a fragment of their conversation, before your arrival

After there rest and some food Sszlax gets back on the trail. Once he picks up the trail he will try and scout ahead, staying out of sight and keep an eye out for any threats.

Szzlax is able to find the trail again. The 2 horses went north, following the river upstream. After 2 hours you enter in the forest.

Szzlax:

You found evidences that the horsemen are going in 2 different directions. One, slowing his speed is going inside the deep of the forest itself toward north, the other, still running at the previous speed is crossing the river in a small ford.

Szzlax scratches his head a moment. "Sszlax find two tracks one with two and one with one. One with one go into forest, others look to cross river. Which we follow?"

"I would like to know more about this Stag Lord but the eggs come first. Remember the other one's direction. Maybe we can find his trail again. For now we follow the one to the river to this Kressle. I assume that is the one we want. If not I say the opposite directions."


Actually, the only information Oozulla got about the camp position from the human prisoner was that it was IN the forest, NEAR the river, at about 1 day from the prisoner camp position.
Which means for now you are probably in an impasse situation, not knowing which one is the correct direction to reach Kressle's camp.

Not able to pick up anything of that speech, Yik Klik and Yolp arrives in the Chief's room, and the 2 kobolds currently there stop any conversation.
After a second of silence...

"So you are back, only in 2?!? Give me a report!" the Chief abruptly orders your PCs when realizing who the 2 in from of him are.

"Chief! We were almost successful. We brought back most of the eggs but some humans escaped on horses to a human place before we arrived, taking some of the eggs. The others made pursuit. We were tasked with the safe return of the eggs, and a prisoner for questioning."

Yik Klik leans heavily on his spear, exhausted.


The chief looks at Yik Klik and Yolp, pensively
then he replies:
"Good, how many eggs have you brought back? I'll question this prisoner personally. Have you already discovered something from him? Where are the humans from?"

Oozulla was not so experienced with sneaking and noticing things. Because of this, she tried to be 20 feet behind guys, so they meet trouble first.

You start approaching a open clearing in the forest, from where you can hear the sound of different human voices. You are still distant, and nobody seems to have spotted you.

"I think we should let szzlax go alone for now." he says realizing his own weakness in stealth but not voicing it. "Let us find a place to set up a hidden camp."

At the lair I'm waiting for someone to reply the Chief's question. For the other 3, I'm waiting for Szzlax Stealth and Perception checks if he agrees on going scouting alone, or Oozulla and Fyrenmar can make a Survival and Perception checks if they want to search a place to set an hidden camp.

Oozulla started looking around for cave or nice place to hide.

"This means our enemy is more bigger then what I was expecting. Controlling a lot of lands, not only some bandits in the forest. Another patrol team reported of one of his fort south from here, and took 3 prisoners. We will need to discover all the needed informations from your prisoner too."

In the forest - part 1 - (Oozulla and Fyrenmar):
Fyrenmar starts looking for a possible camping site, without noticing anything particular. While he is on the top of a very big root, Oozulla is able to find that under that particular root there is enough space for 2 small creatures, making it a perfect place for your team of 3 kobolds, if the one in the watch's turn is obviously outside the hollow space.

Oozulla:
You are also sure, that Fyrenmar is unaware of the small dip below his own feet.

In the forest - part 2 - (Szzlax only):
You find a very hidden spot from where you are are able to scout the enemy's camp without problem. On the ground you counted 2 male humans, and their female leader currently present in the camp.
Here you can find a map of the enemy site.
- K1: Tree trunks and logs serve as chairs, all centered about a stonelined campfire. A heap of kindling and smaller sticks lies nearby.
You counted 13 of those chairs, one clearly better then the other.
- K2 & K3: 2 wooden platforms, 20 feet off the ground, from where you can probably have a great view of the campsite and the trail to the west. You noticed 1 man on the top of K2, but you suspect there is another one on K3 too.
- K4: Two thick logs lie positioned alongside the forest trail
- K5: The Wagon: An old, broken-down wagon sits here.

"Psst," Oozulla made a strange sound from under the tree roots. Fyrenmar was looking around and could not see her for some time, unless he shown out of hiding.

"It's small and safe here, and not so visible from outside", she said, "I think we can camp here while the sun is high. It's enought place for two, so we'll swap watches and wait for Yik Klik and Yolp to return."

"Hey, just a thing", she was putting her backpack aside, taking her cauldron and smoked human leg out, "we stay here for at least 2 days, while Yolp and Yik Klik come. I think it's safe, but we need to put some marks back there, for our friends to notice and find our hiding place without alerting human camp. Next time, even if I will forget - remind me and do not leave group without spiritual magic to communicate."

"It's probably expired now, but I'll try" Oozulla pointed her finger into west direction and started whispering, "Szzlax! Psst. Whisper me back. Are you there?"

As I mentioned, Oozulla was using message on her friends to communicate while on a way, to get them understanding how spell work. Might be that 1 hour since Szzlax left already passed, so she doesn't expect the answer (she is not good with time-sense), but it's better check than sorry.


At first level the cantrip Message last only for 10 minutes, you spent 8 of them for searching the campsite, while Szzlax is scouting the enemy camp. This means Oozulla and Szlaax can speaks via massage for the next 2 minutes.

EDIT: I got confused with another spell. Szlaax is out of the spell's range (110 ft), this means Oozulla can't send the massage to him and he can't reply.

Fyrenmar hops down from the roots and peers into the well secluded little hole Oozulla found. "It appears adequate. Well done. Keep trying with Szzlax. He should return soon and can place a better mark than either of us." This one could be useful one day. Wise, intelligent, passive. A good combination.

Oozulla make herself comfortable in a hole and started eating. Myrrky went freely wonder around cave and found herself big larvae in semi-sleeping state and swallowed it whole. Not the best food, but beggars can't be choosers. It was still early spring, so after snake had lunch, she went back to Oozulla and found a warm place in her bossoms.

"I understand the limits of magic but how do expect him to find us? Yes he might follow the tracks from our meeting point but I would rather not leave it to chance. Once he gets within range your message should reach him." Fyrenmar climbs into the whole and makes himself as comfortable as possible, maneuvering his backpack over the sharper points. It was going to be a long two days but patience was one of his strong points.

"It will be probably too late, since I put not much power into spell and this limits time as well", she pet Myrrka, "I'll meditate for shadows of our ancestors to send me more power. But this might require a great sacrifice and great deal for tribe to be accomplished. For now, I'd walk back to place were we left Szzlax and wait there for him. What do you think, is it way for us to make some traps around human camp, to reduce their numbers before fight?" while waiting for Fyrenmar to answer, Oozulla stands near the exit, expecting him to move.

He does not move. "Send your pet. Szzlax should recognize it and it will attract less attention. We are too close to the humans get caught now and we may need the others. Never underestimate your enemies and never overestimate yourself. Patience is a virtue my dear Oozulla. One Kobolds are not very good at acquiring with our short lives. Traps could help but only when we know what and how many we are up against. We will move in due time."

Sszlax makes his way back to where he left his companions. Not finding them there he looks around for tracks to see if he can find them.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26


Of course Szzlax is quickly able to find and follow the tracks of Fyrenmar and Oozulla, and arrives at the camp while Myrrky, her familiar, hasn't cover a long distance from the big root.
He noticed that the others 2 have found a very good place to set a camp.

Yes, you can rest and recover, but I was waiting for some of you to reply to the Chief's last words too.

As soon as you come back and tell us what happened, yes. That is probably what we will do. 3 on 3 with level 1 kobolds sounds like a bad idea. Then again there might be more. Probably need to do a few more scouting runs to make sure. Then we can discuss picking them off or taking them down.

Although it doesn't imply a direct reply, the Chief is still in front of you, so you need at least to reply and take live from his presence.

For those in the Forest, I was waiting for Szzlax to come back and report IC to Fyrenmar and Oozulla what he saw, so you can make your plan, and then something will happen...

I could have sworn I did that. :P My bad.

Sszlax picks up the trail where his companions went from where he had left them. After a short time he finds his way to the temporary shelter they had found. "Sszlax only see 3 humans. Though looks like more spots for lots more humans there. Not sure if they hide or just not there. Two look outs. Saw one human there, maybe one in other lookout too. That all Sszlax find. Think we need help to smash so many."
