Zarak:

Spoiler:

A long year has passed since your arrival in Korvosa, a long year spent surviving from day to day in the Shingles, trying to remember who you are before you washed up on the shore. Tantalizing dreams so real you can taste the road dust in your mouth when you wake from them have plagued you since your arrival, returning every night. The visions, for that is what you believe they are, have taken you down the same path in your mind, always eerily clear when dreaming, but flitting away to the deep recesses of your mind when waking.

Your needs are little, subsisting solely on the sea air that wafts in through your open windows overlooking the spectacular view of Castle Korvosa. Your neighbor, a pretty human artist by the name of Trinia, has endlessly tried to get you to pose in her ramshackle studio that also doubles as her home, but you've steadfastly refused. Your earlier experiences trying to befriend the residents ended badly, and you've been hesitant ever since.

Still, Trinia's bubbly personality is relentless, and she showed up one morning last week, arms full of some of the finest food the Reefclaw Run Market had to offer, and the two of you enjoyed an early morning repast on top of the building you reside in. As you enjoyed the early morning, Trinia presented you with a fine charcoal sketch of you and the landscape, lounging on the roof top and looking down onto Citadel Volshyenek, the jail you got to know intimately.

This morning started out slightly differently. After a long night, tossing and turning and unable to sleep, you finally collapsed, exhausted. This time, the dreams were clearer, and this time, you remembered them. The fresh scent of spilled blood penetrates your senses, and you are aware of a hundred different wounds all over your body. A battle, a tremendous one, surrounds you, the cawing of crows and the moans of the wounded all around. Your hand clasps a long sword, glistening still with the pure silvery metal of the blade despite the gore-slick crimson staining it. You stand before a stone door, watching as several strong people, people you know, yet don't know, people you trust, close the massive opening, the howling of some beast deep within the yawning opening clawing at your very soul. A spellcaster steps forward, intoning some ritual from a black scroll. Spidery white runes crawl across the surface of the door, penetrating the stone and embedding themselves deeply. You watch as the spellcaster collapses, the scroll crumbling to dust. Several of your commanders (are you a leader? a general?) support the spellcaster up, who shakily bows to you as he is taken away. One of your commanders, a man you trust implicitly, steps forward, speaking in some language unknown to you. His helm is elaborate, a crouching bird of some sort tooled in gold and silver. Two bright red plumes are atop the helm, which perfectly match his ruby-colored eyes. He gives you a smile that borders on a smirk. Did you say something humorous?

You awake from the dream with a start, suddenly unaware of where you are, but the sharp odors of your own sweat bring you to your senses. A quick bath should clear your mind, you feel, and go down to the communal baths nearby to think upon the startlingly real dream. Dressing yourself afterwards, you find a card tucked in your coat pocket, a card that makes your stomach churn.

A creature identical to your commander's helm curls around itself on the card, the colors vivid and brilliant, but the gaze staring back at you is the same gaze from your commander from your dream. Turning over the card, you see a message written in a strong hand on the back.

"I know what Gaedren has done to you. He has wronged me as well. I know where he dwells, yet cannot strike at him. Come to my home at 3 Lancet Street at sunset. Others like you will be there. Gaedren must face his fate, and justice must be done."

You decide to put the dream away, wondering if you can finally find the reasons for Lamm's misdeeds against you.

*wiggles her fingers Scooby-Doo style*
I'm going to swap you and Jericho's place out in the scene. RP away!

Gevtodt, Matteos, Dunzeltoff:
I'm swapping out Jericho for Zarak...Proceed as normal.

As you draw from the nine cards Zellara placed in front of you, each of you turns your card over to reveal the face.

Dunzeltoff: A rabbit dressed in rakish garb and holding a broken rapier. Zellara nods at you. "The Rabbit Prince. He represents battle, and that any opponent can fall, no matter how brave or skilled."

Gevtodt: A landslide with a gaping maw and what could be eyes barrels down a mountainside, overtaking a wagon and destroying what is in its path. "The Avalanche," Zellara says. "Unreasoning disaster, whether caused by you or prevented by you."

Matteos: A bog-like scenery is depicted, with a man's hand outstretched towards brightly glowing lights dancing just out of reach. "The Demon's Lantern - trickery and deceit, they represent something just beyond your grasp."

Zarak: A towering figure juggles an elephant, a clock tower, a boat and boulders in his hands. He smiles broadly, without a care in the world. "The Juggler - fate and the gods. He represents someone who dabbles in the destinies of others, but losing his rhythm can prove disaster, maintaining it, good fortunes."

She repeats Dunzeltoff's question. "What should we beware of to make sure that we cleanse this poison at its root so it may spread no further?"

Zellara reshuffles the cards back into the deck, spinning the cards expertly between her fingers. The candle flames flare as she set out cards in a 3 by 3 square. Flipping over the first column of cards, she reveals The Avalanche, The Forge (a dwarf surrounded by flames and fiery creatures working with hammer and anvil, blue sparks flying), and The Midwife (a halfing with a bloody apron, holding a red-skinned child with horns and a tail). She turns over the Midwife, dismissing its placement in the reading. Tapping the Avalanche, she looks at Gevtodt. "This poison has affected you personally, driving you to where you are now. The Avalanche has consumed one you knew, but in that, you have your own passions now, separate from the one you lost."

She smiles as she looks at the Forge card. "A True match! Its placement in the spread denotes its importance! While the past it refers to is unclear, but something or someone worked hard to pursue the same goal as you - to stop Lamm. Perhaps they were not successful, but maybe the information will still prove valid."

With great reverence, Zellara turns over the middle column, revealing the Big Sky (a man with broken shackles, holding his hands up in praise towards a blue sky and bright sun), the Tyrant (a curled dragon with a sinister look and holding a bleeding egg in his claws) and the Carnival (a child running frightened from masqueraded creatures and puppets). She turns over the Tyrant and the Carnival, saying "No match for those two...but the Big Sky is the positive present! Someone is breaking free, perhaps from Lamm's influence? Maybe they can help you."

Zellara caresses the final column of cards, using her fingertips to turn them over. From top to bottom, the Paladin (figured dressed in golden armor, holding a sword at the ready), the Liar (a snake-bodied woman holding a dead flower bouquet and a smirking expression on her face), and the Demon's Lantern. A small frown crosses her face. "Lamm is not a foe to be trifled with. You must stand strong despite adversity," she says, tapping the Paladin, "and beware of treacherous loves and obsessions," tapping the Liar. "Most of all," she says slowly, looking at Matteos when she speaks, "beware of getting into an impossible situation. Lamm is not above deceit, lies, and blackmail to get away, and he may use you to that end."

Please see the Discussion thread for more game-related information.

"Not to be rude, but where are we going with this", frustaration building in the elan's voice. "I apologize for my rudeness, but how is this helping to find Lamm. We have no idea were his or how to find him. And even if we do, what can we do that no one else has."

After venting Zarak looks around the room feeling somewhat ashamed of his outburst.

M Dwarf Cleric/1

I'm entranced by her reading, really digging the whole Varisian harrow thing... The dwarf on the Forge card makes me excited since I'm a dwarf :-), and the appearance of the same card as my invitation (The Midwife), and her mysterious dismissal of it, pique my interest.

I ponder the implications of her reading...
"Yes... I think the cards know the reason why we have come together this evening...
But if we are indeed to take this opportunity, I think everyone here would like to learn as much as possible about this pier you say he operates from... Then perhaps we could put our heads together and see how best we could exploit our knowledge to Lamm's detriment."

Zarak, she did tell us where she thinks he operates out of: (Haven't you paid attention!? ;-)

Zellara wrote:
"I sought help from the Guard, but they turned me away. And so I asked around. I paid bribes. I consulted my Harrow deck for advice. And recently, I was rewarded - I found out where Gaedren dwells. He can be found in an old fishery north of here at Westpier 17, where he trains his abducted children to be pickpockets and counts his stolen treasures," she says, giving a meaningful glance at Jericho.

Lilith:

Spoiler:
Can I do my own Know:Harrow check on the card spread? Some of her actions seemed suspicious (dismissing some cards like the Midwife, Carnival, & Tyrant) I'm going to activate my Lucky Touch on myself, so best of 2 rolls (& for next 2 rounds, if it matters).

Know: Harrow (untrained) = 22 Also, Sense Motive on her reading = 28 (nat20)
(I don't know if those would have synergies in this situation)

btw, Welcome Zarak!
I really liked this reading thing, too, Lilith (Harrow points don't hurt, either!)

Matteos, I missed your earlier question...D'oh!
"The guards are somewhat...constrained, and he hasn't caused enough real trouble to be of much concern. You four, however, have a bit more of a vested interest in him. I hope it is enough," Zellara replies.

Everybody:
Make Knowledge (local) checks to learn more about Westpier 17 and the surrounding area.

Dunzeltoff:

Spoiler:

Knowledge (Harrow) results: Zellara's skill with the deck is apparent, but without more exposure to Harrow readings, you're not sure what she means by the dismissal of the cards.
Sense Motive results: Zellara's enthusiasm is transparent - you do not detect any falsity in her statements.

M Dwarf Cleric/1

Ok, 24 for that Know:Local check
If we can 'talk it over' later, can we 'aid each other' to combine our collective knowledge...?

"...Hm, it seems the cards are saying there is an opportunity here,
but that this Lamm is indeed a dangerous snake, so we must beware..."

"Did you have any other information that might help us in this issue, Zellara?
If not, perhaps we should take our leave, and discuss our options in another setting.
How is the best way to get in touch with you, if we needed to?
It seems your cards have a way of finding those who you need to talk to,
so you should be able to contact us, if need be."

I thought we could find someplace else to discuss what to do about this.
Lilith, did I happen to know of some Varisian glaive-dancers giving a performance at a restaurant/bar,
preferably with some private booths where we could discuss things?

Dunzeltoff Haelcannon wrote:

Yes, you may.

Zellara shakes her head. "Sadly, I have no further information - I could not get any closer without being discovered. Come back here if you need to get in touch with me."

You can make another Knowledge (local) check to find where the glaive-dancers might be performing.

Knowledge (local) 1d20+1=10

M Dwarf Cleric/1

Every bit helps! That puts us at 26 to know about the Fishery Pier. Gev & Matt for 30!
As for my check about the glaive-dancers: 21

"Indeed, thank you Madame Zellara. May Shelyn smile upon us here this afternoon.
...And if you gentleman have no more questions, shall we adjourn ourselves to a different locale...?"

Gevtodt’s frustration is showing. At Zellera’s comment about the guards needing firm evidence he frowned slightly. When he caught Matteo’s giving him a sly smile as Zellera made her comment his frown turned into a scowl. “So”, he thought to himself, “I need good solid proof on Lamm. And I’m not nearly as incognito as I would like to be.” As the reading commenced Gevtodt’s attention became focused on the cards. The reading left him a little shaken. Uncertainty, disaster, treachery; Gevtodt takes a long breath. After considering his options Gevtodt nods acceptance at the dwarfs invitation to continue this discussion somewhere else.

Dunzeltoff:
You're fairly sure that the glaive dancers will be performing at Eodred's Walk, a nice open area for their dances. Eodred's Walk is also home to a small plethora of shops and taverns, and you recall that Aram's Crown is fairly quiet and unassuming for a meeting.

I will wait to reveal the results of the Knowledge (local) check about Westpier 17 when you get to your meeting location.

----

Zellara turns to all of you. "Thank you for your patience...I will await you here tomorrow, at the same time, for any further news. May Desna grace you all with peaceful dreams."

With that, she gracefully gathers up the cards and rises in the same smooth motion. Turning, she walks upstairs in silence, leaving the four of you to discuss your plans.

As Matteos:
Zellara is a mysterious figure, and the group gathered here isn't what you'd expect. Her piercing gaze at you as she read the cards unnerved you, particularly when she came to your card. You have no personal connection to Lamm, as far as you know, what could she mean? The guard's disguise, however good it was, wasn't quite enough to hide the crispness of his stance that you've come to associate with the guard. You know that the docks are always full of rough and tumble types, but Westpier is tame compared to the Narrows in Old Korvosa. You turn to the dwarf, "Where did you have in mind to have discussions, sir? A place full of hearty ales and pretty dancing girls? Or somewhere more serious, like the view of the Hanging Judge's place of work?"

As Gevtodt:
You stand up to leave, opening the door for the others. "Let's go, we've taken up enough of Zellara's evening, and if we want a quiet seat somewhere, we'd best get started."

Matteos stands up, eager to find out why he's such a figure in Zellara's reading and perhaps in your shared futures.

Zarak takes a deep breath. He never thought he's meet this many people with a grude against Lamm. Nor did he would be this close to finding the man responsible for his incarceration. "I wonder just how many people this man has wronged", he asks to himself.

He follows the others hoping to learn more about them, and how they plan to get to Lamm.

Hearing the steps creak as the old woman climbs the stairs, Dunzeltoff's thoughts swirl with the possibilities he now faces: It's all so much... But if the possibility is there, Shelyn would say to sing it out, to dance with the danger, and hold space for a new flower to rise from the muck....
He let's out a small gasp, releasing some of the tension all this has brought up...

Matt and Gev's words bring him back to this situation:
"Well, yes indeed, if any of ye caught the Varisian glaive-dancers' performance last night amongst all the festivities, ye'd know there are some lookers amongst them, for sure. I've heard they're to be performing again this night, on Eodred's Walk, right around Aram's Crown, if you know the area... If we hurry on over, we can hopefully snag a booth with a prime balcony view to catch all their moves..."

I don't really know the actual layout, of course, but something like that'll work, I think
If they're dancing within the establishment itself, even better...

If none object, we can start walking over to Eodred's Walk immediately...

And whenever you can post, GentleGiant & ManPig, I think if you beat a 10 on a Know:Local, we can add +2 to our collective knowledge about the Piers area...

The four of you make your way from Lancet Street to Eodred's Walk. The night is cool but not quite cold yet. People are coming home from a night spent at the tavern, but you all make your way to Aram's Crown. As Dunzeltoff mentioned, the Walk is filled with brightly dressed dancers who spin their glaives around, tossing them up into the air and catching them by the gauze streamers tied to them.

Aram's Crown is unassuming and simple - the interior is cramped and is standing room only. Narrow stairs leading to an upper level opens up to a balcony overlooking Eodred's Walk. The upper deck is empty save for a tired looked waitress and an elderly human with a pile of papers and a book splayed out in from of him. Bits of differently colored paper stick out of the tome at odd angles. The table at the edge of the balcony is unoccupied, and Dunzeltoff makes a beeline for it.

Matteos walks over to the waitress, guessing successfully that the bar has something better than watered ale to serve (Knowledge {local} 18). Turning his charm on, the waitress smiles shyly back, and heads downstairs, and you all sit down at the table.

Knowledge (local) for Gevtodt: 25
Knowledge (local) for Matteos: 26

Looks like the Aid Another worked. :D
Knowledge (local) with Aid Another x3: Westpier is a rundown section of West Dock, busy but not successful. It earns just enough as a whole to keep dock rentals low and is a common place for fishermen to haul in their catches to be cleaned and sold. Ironically enough, West Dock lies in close proximity to Citadel Volshyenek which serves as the city's jail, and many of the gaolers and their families live in the surrounding High Bridge and Pillar Hill areas. Lamm's choice of residency in this area goes to prove that he's thumbing his nose at the guards, all while committing his criminal acts in view of the Citadel itself.

M Dwarf Cleric/1

While Matteos orders us some drinks and gets friendly with the waitress:

After sitting down where I have a good view of the performers (Study Perform: Dance)
I cast my gaze back over to the elderly Human (how sad for them how quickly they decay).

"Elder. Not to interrupt your privacy, but has the performance been going on long? I caught this troop's performance in last night's festivities, and wanted to catch as much as I could of them, before they leave town..."

"If you don't mind, what's that you're reading? I don't suppose there's much more light enough to be reading out here, perhaps the waitress could bring you a candelabra, though?"

If the waitress comes back I'll ask her to bring a candelabra for the gentleman, unless he says otherwise.
Our group can have a toast when the booze arrives:
"To unexpected allies! To the brave hearted! To just desserts! To...?"

I was just wondering, if everyone could check in... Since this game ended up getting started some time after we all expected it to, what's everyone's ability to post in it looking like?

Dunzeltoff Haelcannon wrote:

"To unexpected allies! To the brave hearted! To just desserts! To...?"

"To the past! May we remember and learn from it", a sorrowful look crosses Zaraks face. "To the future. May she hold justice, luck and joy for us all", as he drinks his he tries to remember the last time he sat with a group of people for any reason, and for theat matter the last time he drank anything of this sort.

Gevtodt follows along to the tavern and accepts an offered drink. His mind is filled with sad remembrances and worry of things to come. As the toasts start to fill the air he is shaken out of his dreary thoughts and raises his head and his tankard with a wide smile. “Here’s to confronting our trouble head on…and knocking it in the head!” he says. As he finishes speaking he sets his earthbreaker down heavily on the table and takes a long drink from his tankard. Foam coats his chin and his yellow eyes sparkle as he throws back his head and laughs. Tomorrow will bring its own trouble but tonight he has hope. Hope at last.

PS Sorry for the long absence.

Gevtodt allows his gaze to fall on the old man working at the other table. The posture and activity of the old man reminds Gevtodt of his own father; head down, back bent, reading, and scribbling the activities of a scribe not a hero. “I guess time changes all things,” Gevtodt says under his breath.

Gevtodt excuses himself for a moment. He walks to the balcony enjoying the cool air and the glaive dancers. He pauses for a little while and watches the activity of the people on the balcony. Suddenly, just as a lark, Gevtodt decides to “introduce” himself the old man. He stealthy approaches the man intent on peeking over his shoulder without being seen or heard.

If successful Gevtodt will spend just a few seconds scanning the material on the table before stepping back, clearing his throat and saying, “Greetings. You’re working late tonight.”

If unsuccessful he will look very surprised and say, “Oh! I thought you were someone else.” He will then just turn and walk away.

Stealth: (1d20+8=17)
Deception: (1d20+5=15)

As Gevtodt approaches his “target” he shoots his new comrades a rakish smile. If any of them look alarmed at Gevtodt’s behavior he tries to send them a few non-verbal clues to let them know he is just clowning around. Gevtodt can’t help but think, “These guys are going to think I’m crazy…or a crook.” He smiles.

M Dwarf Cleric/1

Hm. I guess it's up to Lilith to figure out how to deal with these two varying approaches to friendliness with our fellow diner here on the balcony.
( I was first though, so there! ;-) )

If the old fellow is hard of hearing or doesn't respond right away...
I'll be watching the dancers, and pointing out features of their performance to everyone at our table, if they weren't familiar with the glaive-dancers already. Oh, and could I order a "family size" combo plate for everyone? Can't be acting the brave-hearted vigilantes on an empty stomach!

As Gevtodt puts his plan into action he steals a glance at Zarak Ceol and tries to gauge what type of man he is. The absence of armor, the daggers, and the crossbow cause Gevtodt to jump to the conclusion the Zarak must be some kind of spell caster. Or he could possibly be an archer who favors maneuverability over protection.

"Their movements are beautiful. I wonder how many years they trained to do such a thing." Zarak watches the dancers as Dunzeltoff points out the performance.

As the platter of food arrives Zarak looks at in shock and awe. "So much food", he thinks to himself. He slowly picks at large plate of food, not remembering the last time he saw or ate such a huge amount of food.

M Dwarf Cleric/1

After we deal with our companion on the balcony, let's discuss the situation surrounding Lamm, we can decide our approach, and I feel it would be appropriate to make a pact, of companions-at-arms as it were. After that, Toff might even be hoping to get in on some pole-arm action with the Varisian hotties if Lilith consents. :-)

The elder smiles up at Dunzeltoff, stretching out as he sets down his quill. "Oh, they've been performing for a good hour or so - probably will dance for the rest of the night too. As for what I'm working on, I'm examining some research papers from my students. I teach at the Academae, you see."

As the waitress brings in a candelabra for him at Dunzeltoff's request, he grins. "Aye, I've given these eyes enough of a workout in the dark. Some light could be useful." The elder jumps when Gevtodt sneaks up on him. "What the devil! Oh! Young whip...wait, haven't I seen you somewhere before? Oh yes...I recall...'A Day at the Fair' yes?"

The waitress comes back with a pitcher of ale, refilling your mug and a heavy plate of finger foods - sausages, rolls, filled pastries, steamed mussels and slices of frost melon. She fills Matteos' drink to the brim, smiling warmly as she saunters away.

Gevtodt is a little startled that the old man recognized him. He tries to cover it by putting on a mysterious smile. He simply nods to the man and walks back to his own table. As he passes Dunzeltoff Haelcannon he whispers somewhat loudly, “There is nothing wrong with his eye sight.”

M Dwarf Cleric/1

"MMM, I went to a University once, the family thought I should learn how humans think they know how to better Dwarven Engineering!!! I got in hot trouble with the professor when I disproved his theorem in front of the class - But it was his fault, that was taught in Dwarven Elementary Maths! It was a fun time though, overall, some good times, I'm glad for it...
Well, excuse me, I shant interrupt your meal any longer, indeed, our plate has just arrived..."
<stomach growling> So I give him a nod, and return to our table.

Really great food description Lilith!

I tear into our plate, not getting too distracted from the show below,
I'm trying to catch all their different moves.

"Mmm, <#)#@*>, Gentleman, <#_)#$&>, I hate to interrupt this fantastic meal, <#@$*(&#$*(#%^*($#&^>, but I would like your opinion on how things stand. <#$W*^)#$(*&(*#$(*$(>, What do you think we should do now that we know where this Lamm operates. I was not even aware the extent of his crimes, which makes it all the more important to strike against his Evil, but with... the matter of children apparently being held against their will... We must take care that the innocent, <(*&#$@*(&#$>, are not harmed."
(without Jericho I guess none of us actually have a relative being held by Lamm, right?)

Dunzeltoff Haelcannon wrote:
(without Jericho I guess none of us actually have a relative being held by Lamm, right?)

Not directly, no. But those that are being held are a relative of somebody, right? ;)

Please, discuss your plans to get to the fishery and find out what's what.

M Dwarf Cleric/1

OK, I'm presuming our table is far enough from the Professor so that we can discuss things in privacy. Given what we're talking about, Toff would feel it prudent to keep our discussions private.

"Well, the children certainly are a factor, so we'll have to be careful. I wish we could rely on the justice of the Guards, but given Lamm's fingers are in as many rackets as it would seem, it would be more likely than not that he has at least a few key persons in his pocket... I'd PREFER if we could somehow bring enough evidence of his crimes to the Guard and know Justice would be done, but if we are to be the ones to strike against this evil as the cards seem to say, we must not give away our hand if we are not sure of it's outcome - If we were to release him to the Authorities of Korvosa, could he not still pull one of his tricks and escape the charges, only to then be wise to our group?"

<sigh...>

"...In these circumstances... If we could somehow reach him directly, and he has dangerous accomplices, whom I've encounted once already, but if we could reach him directly, we could force him to sign a statement of his crimes, revealing the names of those he works with... We could give that letter to the Guard, and indeed a copy to <the local news paper?> to make sure it's not swept under the rug, along with any evidence we find (like if he has a book recording those he makes payments to), and certainly the testimony of the children..."

"It would seem we either need to discover where Lamm socializes or otherwise passes his time, and 'meet' him somewhere (he probably has bodyguards), or run into him coming or going from his warehouse... Or else we'll have to gain entry to his compound while he is there... What do you think?" <tossing back another drink>

"Even if we could make him sign a statement of admission that doesn't mean he'll stay behind bars. He could easily say it was coerced, and be set free cause of it. And as you stated, Dunzeltoff, he may have people inside the guard. So even if the guard does accept the statement, his escape is certain.", Zarak leans back in his seat and stares at the ceiling.

"The children may not be of help either. Many may be afraid of Lamm and his ability to harm them, even in jail", he tilts his head forward. His normally bright emerald eyes seem dark and sullen.

"Would it not be better to just take the act of justice into our own hands. We are dealing with an man who has now qualms about who he hurts or kills. A man who for all we know may be back one the street the next day, and he'll be hunting us then..." Zarak seems to catch himself before he can continue on any more.

"I apologize. After spending so much in time jail 'cause of that man, and being this close to finding him I let my emotions get the best of me there."

Zarak readjusts himself in his chair and looks on a the others, "I think we should move on the warehouse. Hard and fast. If there are any children present we make sure they're safe and out of harms way. After that we take care of Lamm, and look for any evidence we need."

“What do you guys think about trying to get a look at Lamm’s strong point before coming up with an assault plan?” asks Gevtodt. “Maybe we can eyeball the layout, identify guards, and locate possible entrances. Given enough time we may be able to stake out the joint and get an idea when guards are changed and deliveries expected.” Gevtodt knows he is young and fears that his advice will be easily over looked so as he speaks he stands stiffly erect and delivers his speech with the same authority of voice that he has heard his father use a million times.

M Dwarf Cleric/1

"That sounds like a wise choice. All we have to go on right now are the cards, so to speak. It'd be good to get a feel of the comings and goings to his warehouse and the neighborhood in general - he must be sending the children out to town every day, and we could see how many people enter and leave, to get an idea of how many minions he has inside guarding his operation. Perhaps we could keep an eye out for the traffic on the water too - when there are heavier flows of ships, and what kind - large merchant ships, fishing craft, what have you."

I can cast a fog cloud if we wanted to enter that way, but it'd work better if it didn't seem out of place, or was an extension of the fog already around - We can figure out what time is the foggiest, probably late night or early morning... If we wanted to take that approach.

"We can get a look at the warehouse and neighborhood from all different angles, it'd be good to know the area if we run into too much trouble.... And there might be an opportunity if we can catch Lamm himself coming or going from the warehouse, at some point further removed from his base... If he seems holed up for now, it might be worth it to rent a dinghy from a fisherman and scope out the back from the water. I think our best chance comes from Lamm being complacent, and not expecting a group like us to be out to catch him - He's probably focused as much on keeping the children under control as anything else."

"Of course, we should try not to attract attention, you know, blend in-like..." :-)

A Knowledge (nature) or Knowledge (local) check will give you more information about the local fog conditions. Without actually going to location, you're not going to get any further useful information. Gevtodt can make a Knowledge (local) check regarding guard routes and patrol sizes, if he so desires.

M Dwarf Cleric/1

Well, 20 for that Know:Local result.
Does anyone else have any ideas for stuff?
Sounds like we'll want to check out both the surrounding streets
and the approach by boat... We could start tonight to see
what it's all like at night & early morning...

The foggiest time of day in Korvosa is early morning, from about 3am to sunrise (approximately 8am).

"Starting tonight would be good", Zarack nods his head while still looking at the huge amount food on his plate. "We'll be able to take note of any patterns we see."

Knowledge (local): (1d20+8=16)

Gevtodt is completely unfamiliar with that part of town. He doesn’t even know if Lamm’s hideout is on an actual wharf or just on the waterfront. He suggests a possible “reconnoiter in force.” It sounds like 0300 is the perfect time. If the group runs into trouble they could escape under the cover of fog.

Gevtodt:
The guard patrols are fairly light in the early hours of the morning. It should be fairly simple to avoid any patrols if the four of you decided to approach the fishery from land.

"3, huh. That's fine." Talam nods to the group and stands. "If you'll excuse me I need to settle some things at home. After that I'll meet you all at the Docks."

If nothing else need to said I'll have him head home to pickup the rest of his gear.

“Wait just a second,” says Gevtodt. “I don’t know the area at all. Let’s agree on a meeting place we can all easily find. And before you go I would like to propose a basic outline of a plan. Three drunk friends finding their way home followed by one unseen.”

With that Gevtodt is ready for action.

Taking his seat again. His attention on Gevtodt.

“Lamm probably has a guard on his front door,” Gevtodt continues. “Maybe we can get him to show his hand without arousing suspicion. One of us can remain hidden and try to spot anything useful that pops up. I’m kinda sneaky. I’m also kinda good at talking my way out of trouble.”

Gevtodt goes on to lay out a few additional details.

The details are sketchy. Role-playing this out on the message board might take a while. Maybe we can do it in the chat room? Use this as a trial run so to speak?

In the interest of getting things rolling to figure out a basic approach OOC:
I have darkvision, which could help for look-out duty, but don't have any ranks in Perception, so it's sortof a wash.

Was someone suggesting we stage some sort of event nearby Lamm's ware-house but not directly trying to enter it, to see what sort or response happens? That might be a good idea, maybe play someone stumbling home from a bar, piss-drunk... But we would need a plan how to respond if they are violent, since they could viciously attack a barely-conscious drunk even if not threatened... Maybe we should just get a reconnaisance of the neighboring area FIRST before actually TRYING to interact with any guards, even a ploy like this to learn more about them.

Perhaps for this night, we could just skirt the actual warehouse, but get a good feel for the neighborhood. It's always good to know the places you can run away to if need be. Maybe we can pretend to be looking for a dog, calling out it's name...?

Otherwise, besides a basic layout of the neighborhood, It'd be good to get a specific understanding of the adjacent buildings/ area, which would probably be easier to see in the daytime. (one thing to check out is if we can spot any of his henchmen on positions further out from his actual warehouse, like standing guard on adjacent buildings, or standing lookout down the street.)

And I wasn't actually sure: is the warehouse ON a pier, and thus sticking out over the water, or is that the just the name of the neighborhood? I'd like to get a view of the waterline as well, which should probably just require renting a rowboat, but the order we check them out in doesn't so much matter, as long as we don't get caught...

Well I'm willing to play the fool in this plan. I think I can handle myself if something were to happen. But if it were to get out of control, you all couldd be in hiding somewhere close.

Sure, but I don't plan on staying hidden 'hind a barrel if you're getting beat on by Lamm's thugs!

But what did you intend specifically, getting involved with his guards?

I'm not necessarily opposed, but before we try 'active' tactics,
it seems we should just get an idea of the surrounding area & any comings and goings either from the warehouse itself, or the neighborhood - Things to watch out for and things we could take advantage of.

Just walking/riding around the neighborhood, even if all of us aren't trained, 4 Perception checks between all of us should be pretty good at spotting most guards, checking at every location. Observing from a boat is pretty safe & anonymous, we can row around at a decent distance and get a look at their backside from every angle, depending on what we see between the waterfront and the neighborhood, we can choose our best options from there...

If Matteos doesn't post ASAP, let's just figure out something between the 3 of us...
Lilith can decide what to do with his character/ adjust the scenario for 3 PCs...?

At this point, continue on without Matteos and I'll adjust accordingly. I do want to know what your battle plan is for approaching the fishery. You can safely assume that the Old Fishery is sitting half on land and the rest over water, as that is very standard for that part of Korvosa.

OK, both Gev and Zarak were wanting to play some deceptive role,
so if we are to go that route, we should sort out who's doing what.

That plan sounded like it was based on the street side of things, if we wanted to go in/under via a rowboat it might not apply, though we could figure out some variant if we wanted...
(We could find a fisherman at a pub who would rent us his dinghy (accompanied or not) so he wouldn't have to fish off his hangover. or if Gev has some role in the Guard, could you get a Guard port patrol dinghy that we conviently ride along in?)
This must be a strange dwarf that's so interested in a boat approach. :-)

I've said enough, so whatever you two decide on, I'll play along...

Hmm, the dingy is good idea too. If we can manage it we can give ago. I'll wait for Gev to see what we decide on.

Finishing atleast some of his meal, Zarak sits looking at ceiling. "So depending on which plan we choose, do we start tonight"
