So, at this point you are on the cusp of transitioning to the second book. There is still some area to explore for this book, but you've hit the highlights. I'm not *quite* prepared from my end to go full into kingdom building, but now is a time to discuss thoughts you might have. I hope to try and be ready for that in a week, although you still have a return trip to Oleg's Trading Post to send word of your deeds.

Well at this point in time I don't have any further thoughts on the kingdom building aspect of our campaign. I do think we should take some time to figure out what we want from the loot list, liquidate the rest and perhaps start a fresh spoils of war tab for book 2. Just to avoid confusion over what is what as massive lists are wont to do.

I also think that while it's admirable that we're not fighting over treasure, it's a little weird when items that would certainly be useful to anyone go unclaimed because we're all deferring to the other. I have some thoughts on what we could do to remedy this minor problem, but I'd like to hear if anyone else feels the same and if they have any potential solutions to this.

I kind of feel like Audsley's touch attacks and ability to beef up with spells is making him pretty effective already, so I'm completely happy to defer on items unless it's stuff nobody wants. I also have no experience with what's to come or empire building, so am happy to defer to others there too!

As far as the boots of elvenkind go, I don't really benefit from acrobatics, and since we don't have a rogue or monk type I'm not sure who they'd be good for. :D

So far there's a suggestion to move back to Oleg's but it hasn't been seconded and I don't want to interrupt if people aren't ready to move on. At this point, maybe have the expectation of a large post late Sunday early Monday that starts the transition between Chapters?

For what it's worth, my next couple weeks are going to be busy with preparing for GenCon and the start of the new school year just afterward, so I will do my best to follow along but may be a little sparse in my posting quantity.

Yeah, I think the uncertainty is because our characters don't know if we're going to be given room to establish a new base of operations, or if the Solicitor just wanted us to clear out the competition and, now that the job's done, we're supposed to clear out. Obviously the adventure tells us that we're going to be sticking around but our characters don't know that!

GenCon is this week, and I'm doing the Tier 1 GM schtick again this year. I leave Tuesday, but will likely not have a huge amount of time to post Monday.

What it means for this, is that I will likely be reduced to hoping for WiFi over lunch to try and get posts in.

If you have Ultimate Campaign, some of the contents therein are basically copied from Paizo's Kingmaker experience. That would be a good place to start I suppose. Unless its different enough.

Initial Kingdom Building!

I have emerged from reams of financial and legal documents to get the Initial Building to a linkable state. Most of these rules will be coming from the Ultimate Campaign / PFSRD, some will come from Ultimate Rulership (mostly additions of buildings, edicts, and tweaking the Magic Item Economy )

1. Choose Your Kingdom's Alignment. Your kingdom's alignment helps determine how loyal, prosperous, and stable your kingdom is. Your kingdom may be a lawful good bastion against a monstrous forces, or a chaotic neutral territory of cutthroat traders whose government does very little to interfere with the rights of its citizens. You may not have an Evil Kingdom.

2. Choose Leadership Roles. Assign the leadership roles for all PCs and NPCs involved in running the kingdom, such as Ruler, General, and High Priest. The leadership roles provide bonuses on checks made to collect taxes, deal with rioting citizens, and resolve similar issues.

3. Found Your Initial Settlement. Choose a location for your starting Settlement, Clear it, and purchase your initial Buildings using Build Points

4. Start Your Treasury. The build points you have left over from starting your first settlement make up your initial Treasury. (You will start with 50 Build Points)

5. Determine Your Kingdom's Attributes. Your initial Economy, Loyalty, and Stability scores are based on the kingdom's alignment and the buildings your settlement has.

I have some rule of two inspired plans for how to handle allocating resources after the initial creation, or if you could use some help in deciding things amicably, I'll set them up.

Some of this stuff will be easier to cover OOC, although posting an IC overview of arguments and planning sessions is fine as well.

I don't really care too much what alignment the group settles on, as my long-term goal is to make my own vassal state. ;)

So what is the difference between a LG kingdom vs a NG kingdom, etc... From a crunch perspective I mean.

Chaotic: +2 Loyalty; Evil: +2 Economy; Good: +2 Loyalty; Lawful: +2 Economy; Neutral: Stability +2 (apply this twice if the kingdom's alignment is simply Neutral, not Chaotic Neutral or Lawful Neutral).

There's little lasting impact, but might flavor the kingdom.

NG sounds good to me. I could live with LG, but it seems to me a lesser fit for the kind of people who would settle in a 'frontier' realm.

Audsley, should we discuss the Magister Leadership roles? It would fit Franka best among the available options, but I'm guessing the same would go for you. Thoughts?

I like the idea of fortifying Fort Owlbear, if only due to having an IC attachment to the place.

I'm also fine with NG! +2 Loyalty, +2 Stability sounds great. Loyal and stable kingdoms sound like just what we want.

Agreed on NG, even if my heart wants to pull closer to L. Loyal and Stable sound pretty good.

Splitting up roles is hard- -Janna's got a sort of jack-of-all-trades set of modifiers, but I'm not sure that just foisting the title of ruler on whoever has the best Charisma is the ideal way to assign roles. (Does Janna have the best Charisma at +2? That'd be surprising if so.) Looking down those lists, nothing really jumps out as "this is Janna." Warden, maybe? A quiet Ruler? A General or Marshal or Diplomat or whatever? (The problem with bards- -they fit any role...)

On one hand, Turante is the only one of us with real leadership experience. On the other hand, she's the one of us that's most an outsider.

Thematically, Túrante's best fit at the start is the Marshal position. Eventually her goal is to move into the Viceroy position as a vassal elven state.

I think based on personality and character background, the fits are:
Ruler: Emil
General: Janna (these first two could be swapped)
Councilor: Audsley
Magister: Franka

We'll need additional people to take on the other roles; our stats will be hard-hit at first if we can't recruit folks immediately. We might be able to get away with:
Warden: Akiros (but if he screws up, he's in real trouble)
High Priest: Jhod Kavken (but if we don't like Erastil as the state religion, this is a no-go)

We still need to find viable people to be Grand Diplomat, Spymaster, Royal Enforcer, and Treasurer. Eventually we should get Leadership and have cohorts to do this, but at the outset it's gonna be rough.

My initial thoughts for Leadership roles given character interactions so far:

Ruler: Janna
General: Emil
Marshall: Turante

Magister is a tossup between Audsley and Franka. You could make a case for Franka representing the fledgling nation's spiritual needs, or Audsley could be a treasurer... The roles don't have to exactly match the descriptions given. If people have alternative interpretations, feel free to bring them up.

I did have an idea for the transition point: There are a few Encounters that I'd planned that the party completely missed in the rush to get to the Stag Lord (not that that's a bad thing ;)) I was considering introducing them is small vignettes to keep the RP going while the planning for the Kingdom starts up.
