Running two different campaigns is definitely something I've considered, but I've had the same reservations that have been mentioned. If I did run two campaigns (big if) there would be significant variation between the two (I don't think I could run identical campaigns... even this one has differences from the last attempt I made two years ago.)
I did have a very long drive tonight that had me brainstorming ideas for much more bleak and gritty echo of my campaign world... but that might just be the 1.5 hours of sitting in traffic talking.

And recruitment is now Closed. Unless you've contacted me previously, I'm not accepting any further submissions.
Once again, thanks to everyone that's participated and submitted. I can't guarantee when I'll have a final answer for everyone, but I'll keep everyone updated and hopefully it'll be soon.

Okay, clearly not finished as I thought!
I forgot the examples of gameplay and combat.
It’s hard to tell what’s the favorite post because, most of the times, what you think it’s your favorite; it’s a sum of all other characters actions and answers.

So here is one I’m particularly fond of:
A bit of context first: The group of possible heroes just rescued a little elf girl. According to legends, she is to be sacrificed to save the world, thing my character doesn’t want to accept. By saving the elf child, we ended up freeing a hound archon that was being kept prisoner as well. The hound Archon had just promised to help a family find their lost children, and then upon discovering the elf girl, wanted to take her away for safekeeping.
Example 1.
The second example, of the same character, happens when for some reason the party decided to go on exploring, while they left the elf child in the care of a trusted ally, but not before the mage get attached to the elf girl. Later they discovered that one of the allied factions started working with the devils and the camp, where they left the elf child, is under attack. The party travelled back with haste, to find the encampment a warzone. After fighting some of the enemy’s soldiers, we captured some of the knights and the barbarian wanted to execute them, and well, just to contradict the man and because it was the right thing to do, the mage stepped into his path. The barbarian then tricks the mage into believing the elf girl is dead because of the knights.
Example 2.
The last example is a one related to combat:
Combat Example.

You've got 3 hours! You can do it!
Not a matter of time, but rather timing. My sheet is on my laptop (with no internet access), and I got called in to work, so no access to my laptop right now. I basically would need to retype from my laptop to my phone. My phone has troubles, issues, and limits on copy/paste, so I can't just transfer a file. Typing on my phone is too slow to build the character on my phone. Took me an hour to get this post typed with only a few interruptions.

As for running two games, I'll throw this out there for any potential GMs out there. Easy way to recruit players is reach out to the applicants once selection has been made. You've got plenty of solid choices and just slip 'em a little PM. "Hey, got some of that... Kingmaker you're looking for."
That may be how this all started -- I did a recruitment for a KM game (that is just getting through its second encounter!) and Wolfspirit mentioned that the huge turnout inspired him to set up his own. :)

Congrats!

Just checking in, I'm still trying to make some very difficult cuts. Unfortunately, I had a 4th unexpected visit to the vet over the course of the last 5 days between 3 different pets, so my "efforts of the night" were kind of shot. (Nothing too serious, just a variety of Murphey's Law of Pet Owners.) I'll hopefully get things wrapped up tomorrow night, Friday at the latest.

Indeed! I actually had my own submission in that game, and while I wasn't selected, I did get a great character idea I've re-branded for a different game. Also, it was just the push I needed to be motivated to create this game.
I would be happy to share notes / materials with prospective GMs after this is done: a "Kingmaker Shared Resources", if you will.

Sorry I didn't pick up your character, but on the flip side, I will probably run more KM games in the future. ;)

One of the reasons I am signing up is because I would like to run this AP at some point and want to see how others do it. So I would definitely be interested in the "shared resources."

I highly, highly, recommend checking out the Kingmaker AP board here, there is a ton of great material there.
Evan Rivers |
Evan stops his walk for a brief moment to look around and enjoy what his senses tell him. It's fairly quiet, just the sound of wind rustling through the trees and birds shortly chirping away break the silence now that his boots have stopped their noisy march. It's quite different from the noisy hustle and bustle he is used to from the city. With five franatic gnome siblings there was hardly ever a moment of peace and quiet when he grew up. He quite enjoys the calm and soothing sounds out here in the wilderness. Not that he didn't enjoy the time back growing, but some variety, some new experinces, is always nice to go through. It seemed like only moments ago that people were screaming on top of each other, clamoring to join the expedition into the stolen lands. Of course he doesn't just hear, he also sees. The green leaves on the trees, the brown trunks of the trees and the play of sunlight as rays stream through the canopy is already wonderful, but he sees so much more. One of the rocks on the ground seem to reflect the light just light a diamond, it's dazzlingly beautiful how it scatters the sunlight in all directions, lighting up the undergrowth around it. He knows that if he showed it to someone else though they will only see a normal rock. He would probably even see a normal rock himself if he did try to pick it up. At the corner of his eye he can see a bush burst into bright violet flame, but when he turns to look closer only a normal green bush full of leaves stand before him. He turns his eyes back to the path and starts walking again. I should enjoy the sights, but not let them distract me. I wouldn't be much of an adventurer if I stopped every 5 feet to gawk at plain ordinary things.

Final Roster is set!
First off, I’d like to again thank everyone that’s participated in my Teasers and Recruitment. The amount of support and enthusiasm I’ve received have far surpassed even my most outlandish expectations. I especially want to give a special thank you to everyone that came from the original Kingmaker Teaser; I probably wouldn’t have had the encouragement to post this Recruitment without you.
Trying to reduce the Roster down to 6 names has been incredibly difficult. There were many people I respect as players, writers, and roleplayers that I’ve poured over with a multitude of wonderfully written characters that I’ve agonized over the past few days. In the end I think I have a list that I hope will carry to a truly epic campaign.
However, for everyone that isn’t on the list, all is not lost! I do have plots and plans for further PbP opportunities, including a campaign I’m calling “Kingmaker: Legacies of Dust”, a grittier, "Game of Thrones"-esque version of the Kingmaker campaign. I’m also an (as of tomorrow…) 4-Star PFS GM and Venture Lieutenant, so I’ll probably be running a few PFS scenarios and sanctioned modules. I don’t want to commit to too much before I find what’s a sustainable amount of GM work for me, but after reading so many entrees there’s a lot of people I hope I might have the chance to GM for!
To that end, if anyone has interest in me GMing for them in the future, I’m putting up a Google Sheet for people to mark what type of games they would play. For the near future, I’m planning on sending out private invites to games, though, as I probably have enough contacts that I won’t need to post a Recruitment again for quite a while! I can completely understand if I’ve burned any bridges through this, but I hope I can assure you that for anyone not selected that it is entirely not personal.
Now, onto the Roster. I have already sent everyone selected a PM, but here is the list as it stands:
- Audsley King aka electricjokecascade
- Celemar Thaliodel / Túrante Poicellë aka Jesse Heinig
- Emil Mordrane aka Upaynao
- Francesca "Franka" Aigner / Bogdan Kolar aka Iff
- H. Pennington Smythefield | Rambozo the Clown / Janna d'Hoiess aka Jayson MF Kip
- Sera Harlow aka Calmlight
Picking this list was very tumultuous. There were names that were on and off it several times, and a few it was physically painful to remove. A certain clown pulled himself up from being a running joke to inventing himself as a full-fledged character A truly creepy, evil clown thing to do… A couple character submissions made me want to create an entire campaign for them! Seriously, someone could collect up a decent anthology of short-stories from this selection. Or another GM can pull together an entire other team or three...
So once again, thank you all. I do hope to play or GM with all of you in the future!
