The bolt flies true, skewering the mite in the chest. The creature wobbles a moment, as if moving toward the entrance Rufus now covers before collapsing dead.

Inspecting the room leads to little value. The mites have small daggers and darts on them but nothing of any real value. The rest of the room is filled with small bones, wood scrapes and a variety of different, but useless, items that the mites seemed to use to create contraptions of some kind.

Rufus, closer to the 'exit' and the light from Castor allowing him to see, finds that the exit splits a little ways further in. One going down and to the left, another going down and to the right.

Approaching the split, Castor can hear a soft scream followed by softer giggling similar in pitch to the mites just before coming from the right 'branch' but doesn't hear much of anything coming from the left branch.

"That went better than expected," Korinne whispers after having watched her two more able friends turn the two mites into pincushions. "Let's hope our luck holds," she adds as the group prepares to move further inward. Reloading her crossbow, she does her best to watch for potential hazards as they proceed.

"It'd be wise to investigate" Xelani replies in a murmur.

"Perhaps these cramped tunnels can work to our advantage" she adds, addressing Rufus. "Negating their only way of retreat was a tactically sound decision, but should we, as I fear, come to face greater numbers, holding a bottleneck instead might mitigate our numerical disadvantage. Not to mention we all know how devastating Korinne can be against clumped up foes."

Precise Shot negates the -4 malus for shooting at a foe Rufus's engaging in melee. With him tanking in the front and Xelani providing support fire / healing from behind, we can probably slowly grind the mites down and push them deeper and deeper if they opt to retreat. Keep the 3 color sprays in reserve should we start to feel the pressure, or we manage to sneak up on a large number of mites.

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

When archery will prove inconvenient, Castor can instead provide divine advantage to Rufus at the front. I'd like to stay within touch range of Rufus where possible, Castor's Bit of Luck ability is quite helpful for that.

"Wisely said, Xelani. Rufus, care to lead the way?"

I was all set to take part in this scene...
And then I had a very unfulfilling exchange with my ex regarding our son & I'm now in a truly foul mood.
I'll be here, but I'm afraid I'm just going to be taking up space for a time.
Tomorrow should be better.

Nodding in agreement, Rufus proceeds down the passage Castor indicated.

Heading down the right passage. Cautiously

Bummer Rufus, hope things are better for you tomorrow.

"Sounds like a plan to me," Korinne nods in agreement. "I'll hold my magic in reserve, for now...should we find ourselves surrounded or facing many at once, then I'll see if I can put a few of them out of commission, at least temporarily."

Overland Map

You move through the small tunnel for about 10 feet before it opens up into a new cavern. The walls of this egg-shaped cavern are obscured by thick tangles of long, pallid roots. To the east, the chamber opens into a wide, root-filled chasm.

Inside of the cavern are 6 mites, each holding a pointed stick and poking at something on the wall. That something being a dark scaled kobold, bound by what appears to be roots. One of the mites pokes the kobold who screams a bit, causing the mites to giggle. 3 other kobolds are tied up to the wall, however their lifeless eyes and numerous wounds tell the soon fate of the living kobold.

As you enter, one of the mites perks up and looks at the group. He hisses and the others turn, dropping their pointed sticks and pulling out small knives.

Basically everyone goes then the mites go. The cavern is about 30 feet before 'hitting' the chasm. However, the mites are in a group, only about 10 feet away from Rufus(who is at the head of the group).

What do you think guys? Would this be a good time to unleash one of those color sprays (bonus points for potentially further avoiding any alarms from being raised)? If so, Xelani would delay her action until after Korinne's casting, and then shoot at the closest conscious mite (if any). If not, consider it a normal attack roll.

Go for it, six on four odds is not quite in our favor. Especially considering they have DR against which we don't have the appropriate material...

Draconic:
"We are friends. Your tribe has sent us to aid you!"

I really hope this works!

At Rufus' signal, Korinne steps forward and utters a few arcane words before pointing her hands at the group of mites. "Look! Pretty colors!"

The magnificent color washes over the group of mites. Most of them seem momentarily dazzled but quickly shake off the effect. One, near the back, does drop unconscious.

Xelani, after the colorful display, lets loose an arrow and easily spears one of the small creatures dead.

One is unconscious, One is dead. There are still 4 mites on the field. Rufus and Castor still have actions as they go later in the initiative order.

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

"By the stars of Desna, may our weapons strike true!" Castor calls out, grasping his holy symbol and holding it up to the air. The iron butterfly's wings glow with ethereal light, which expands to fill the room with a faint, glittery luminescence, covering the party and the chained Kobold.

his slice cuts through the small creatures chest, severing the spine easily. Effectively, he has slice the little blue bundle of skin in two...

The other two are out of Rufus's range and running toward the chasm. You can see some vines and roots the seem to connect the chasm to the other side, and they start to make their way up those. Action goes back to the rest of the team.

Korinne's and Castor's shot miss wide, cutting a few of the vines that span the nearby chasm. Xelani's shot is true, killing one of the fleeing mites. The other gets to the vines and starts to climb on them but Rufus's quick action cuts the creature's head clean off.

With the mites dead, you hear the sound of the kobold on the wall moving a bit. The kobold whimpers a bit saying, "Θα έρθει να σώσει Mikmek από φρικτό μπλε αυτά ;"

Draconic:
"You come save Mikmek from horrible blue ones?"

"Φυσικά!" Rufus replies as he quickly makes his way to the bound kobold. "Δεν νομίζω ότι η φυλή σας θα σας αφήσει ακριβώς εδώ, έτσι δεν είναι?"

Draconic:
"Of course!"
"You don't think your tribe would just leave you here, do you?"

With a sigh of relief, Korinne lowers her crossbow. "Good job, everyone. I'm glad that the three of you are capable of hitting a moving target because I clearly need some additional practice," she says with a wry smile. As Rufus moves to attend to the kobold she carefully moves forward as well, attempting to watch and listen for the sound of any additional threats.

However, she can't help but stare curiously at the chasm some feet away, her attention fully held by wondering what might lie at the bottom.

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

"All the same," Castor says, invoking minute amounts of divine magic to seal up the small cut left in his finger by his bow's string. "If I'd made a shot like this last one when my father was teaching me archery, the other trainees would never have let me live it down."

Curious about the chasm's depth, Castor leaves Rufus to discuss with the kobold. Instead, he picks a pebble off the floor and transfers his Light spell to it, dropping it down the chasm to get a better idea of the distance to the bottom.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

I'll say, I think the mites jinx our dice.

"Λοιπόν , όταν σκέφτεστε για το ..." the Kobold shakes his head and looks at Rufus. "Πρέπει να βγούμε . Ανάγκη για να σώσει Sharptooth και να φέρει πίσω στη γενιά πριν μας όλα σκοτώνει !"

Draconic:

"Well, when you think about it...

Need to get out. Need to save Sharptooth and bring back to clan before he kills us all!

As the two of you are talking, Castor takes the light infused rock and drops it down the chasm. It seems to hit something and bounce off...the hit doesn't make the sound of rock hitting rock...in fact, Castor is pretty sure whatever it hit is moving...

Before he has time to call out, a gigantic form surges from the chasm. It's long body is covered in chitinous plates and you can see many small legs holding up it's body and allowing it to move about. It crashes into the small hole that opens up into the cavern the group is currently in.

The creature gnashes it's mandibles a bit, something green and not too pleasant dripping from them, obviously looking for a meal...

Korinne knows that this is a Giant Whiptail Centipede. These are hurge vermin that have a nasty bite which is poisonous. Right now, it seems to be squeezing into the hole(something that it is actually pretty good at) so you can't see it, but it has a tail that it can use to trip it's pray. Your check basically allows you too look at it's stats on the PFSRD if you are so inclined to explain anything further.

It's previous movement was a surprise round so it goes fist, followed by everyone else. Also, bless is no longer active.

Castor's eyes widen in fear as the gigantic vermin surges from the chasm and all but takes his leg off.

Fool of a Took! Sorry, I just couldn't resist :)

Xelani was intent watching Rufus' conversation with the kobold, ready to provide help or healing if it was needed, when the Desnan's shout suddenly forces her to turn and focus on the new threat at hand.

"What? Castor!" she exclaims, as she shoots an arrow at the insect-like creature who has just wounded her companion.

Korinne shrieks with surprise as the centipede comes bursting up through the hole and sinks its mandibles into Castor's leg, though she's thankfully able to keep her head enough to recognize what they're facing.

"It's poisonous! And magicks that affect the mind are useless against it!" she cries. Seeing the degree of injury that the centipede has inflicted on Castor, she moves next to the half-elf and places her hand on his shoulder. As before, an electrical hum fills the air followed by a *pop*.

D'oh! I'm up, aren't I?

I'm double checking to be certain, but it looks as though it is only necessary that allies hear Rufus' Raging Song, not that they be able to understand it...
Therefore, this shall henceforth be my default 'activation phrase' for when he initiates his Raging Song.

"Naar beneden vallen, opstaan!
Naar beneden vallen, opstaan!
Hoewel je zijn gevallen, 'tis niet het teken van een man, alleen dat hij weer staan om de vijand, de angst, de strijd gezicht!"
Rufus bellows as froth begins to form at his lips.

Standard action; activate Raging Song (Inspired Rage) 4/5 rnds, he & all allies who so choose now have a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC. While under the effects of inspired rage, allies other than Rufus cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration. (Unlike the barbarian's rage ability, those affected are not fatigued after the song ends.)

Halfing:
"Fall down, stand up!
Fall down, stand up!
Though you have fallen, 'tis not the mark of a man, only that he stand again to face the foe, the fear, the fray!"

Overland Map

Xelani's attack bounces off of the creatures thick chitanous plates. While it doesn't seem to be able to move well within this tunnel, it's armored hide still provides it with some protection.

The creature shuffles a bit and then, lightning quick, it snaps it's jaws at Xelani, the creature probably realizing that so far she has been the only threat.

Centipede Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 4 = 8
Centipede Attack: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 3) + 7 = 16
Xelani Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Poison Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

The creature's attack misses Xelani as she dodges easily out of the way and it smashes into the rock nearby.

I didn't cover it before, but the creature is about 10 feet into the cavern. It does have reach. To give you guys a bit more of a boost(as demonstrated by it's attack, it can easily knock you guys out if it hits), I didn't roll it's AOO. Do note that I will keep it in mind from now on, so be careful. It basically reaches 10 feet from the entrance that you guys came through to itself. It's everyone else's turn.

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

Knowing he could do little good in melee, Castor opts to ignore the burning passion Rufus's chant inspires. Instead, he approaches the warrior, and merely whispers a few benedictions.

"That your blade may strike true."

I'm assuming Rufus is going to wade into melee next turn. Bit of luck: Next turn, Rufus gets two roll two d20 instead of one on any d20 roll he makes, and pick the best one.

As Rufus bellows out what sounds like something between a challenge and a chant, Korinne feels her mind begin to cloud over as the blood in her veins stirs...

No! I need to stay focused!

Shaking off the primal battle frenzy that had nearly come over her, Korinne rapidly backs away from the snapping centipede as she readies her crossbow and looses another bolt.

So if understand correctly, Xelani's now within the creature's threat range (since it just attacked her). If she's 10 ft. away from it, she's going to take a 5 ft. step towards the cave's entrance to move out of the centipede's reach and then attack it with her bow...

Xelani hears Rufus' thunderous battle call, inspiring her to charge blindly into her foe. The effect is short-lived, however, as her disciplined training allows her blood to chill and her mind to regain the necessary focus. She carefully takes a step backward while shooting at the creature.

Xelani moves forward, drawing her blade and cutting into a part of the creature flesh, between the chitinpus hide. The huge insect chatters at her. It turns its head as if to strike her but this leaves a large opening in it's hide.

Seeing the opening, Rufus moves forward and rams his large blade into the creature. The blade sinks deep and Rufus twists the blade up and down, creating larger gashes in the creature's softer skin. The centipede screams in horrible pain and retracks itself back.

Rufus is able to pull his blade free before the creature takes it with him. Ichor flows through the wound in huge amounts, staining the ground black.

The creature rears, obviously in pain and seemingly woozy from the wound. It sets its sight on who did this to it, and chomps at Rufus.

The centipede chomps into Rufus chest, the disgusting sound of ribs breaking able to be heard over it's own noise. It shakes Rufus a bit an then flings his body against the wall. Rufus's body hits the wall hard with a wet sound of a body breaking.

Caster feels a little more sluggish as the poison courses through his body.

Well, that happened. Caster takes 4 more dex damage. Technically, Rufus is instant dead(30 damage, Rufus's HP + Con = 30). However, as long as Rufus still wants to keep his character, if someone magically heals him this turn, he will live(he is still at -13 HP), the idea being that the power of Rock and Roll keeps his Con modified just enough. Generally, I do not like characters dieing randomly. I prefer that a character die in a way that is more interesting to the story. It does sorta reduce the danger but I've always viewed D&D as a way to tell a story rather than just a combat system with story lines.

Centipede Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Centipede Attack: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 1) + 7 = 9
Xelani Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Poison Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Castor Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Poison Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

The creature extends it's head but that pulls on the wound already done to it. The wound causes it to 'tug' out of the way of Xelani, causing it's maw to miss her cleanly.

Castor takes another 4 dex damamge >.<

Xelani sees the vicious gap Rufus' blow opened on the creature's side. Knowing she has to end it now, she aims at the vulnerable spot while swinging her blade with all her might.

Korinne swears loudly as her bolt bounces harmlessly off of the centipede. Beginning to sweat as the creature snaps at Xelani and misses, she hastily loads another bolt and fires, even as the half-elf woman delivers a vicious retaliatory blow with her sword.

Attack (Crossbow): 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 2 = 18
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Well I'll be...last round I forgot to account for the -2 attack penalty due to the Overprotective drawback. The round I remember it, it looks like I might have actually hit anyway haha!

Castor ignores his arms and legs feeling progressively stiffer, concerned with more pressing matters. He maintains the holy channeling.

Overland Map

Xelani's sword enters into the vulnerable spot and she feels the blade slice into the flesh. The giant creature immediately stops thrashing about. It shudders for a moment, and then slumps over. As Xelani pulls her blade free, huge amounts of black ichor pore from the wound. It's obvious that whatever she hit was the last shred of whatever kept this thing fighting.

The battle over, you can survey the area. With the creature lumped over, you can easily move to the next cavern if desired. The centipede did not destroy the rope like vines leading on. The kobold, seeming to have been keeping quiet so as not to draw attention to itself, now starts to make noises, as if it was trying to get loose from it's bonds.

End of combat. Question is now: Do you press onward?

"That was entirely too close for comfort," Castor says, applying more healing to Rufus. "I was well and truly scared that we'd lost one of ours to this beast..."

Ick.

"I'm afraid I'm running dangerously low on blessings for today. We may be best served by retreating and returning after we've had a chance to rest. I believe it would be foolish to go any further..."

Castor slowly rises from kneeling next to Rufus to heal him, and finds himself struggling with that simple action.

"... Would any of you happen to be familliar with how to treat venoms? I'm pretty sure that bite was carrying something fierce."

I think that brings me back to a positive hit point total...

As Castor's minor miracles restore Rufus to consciousness if not full health, he rolls upright once more. "Whatever we do, we'd best do it quickly. There are no guarantees they aren't preparing a counter action even now." Nodding his thanks to the half-elf, Rufus makes his way over to the bound Kobold. "Τι απαντάτε εσείς σε; Έχεις καμιά ιδέα πόσα από αυτά τα παράσιτα παραμένουν;"

Draconic:
"What do you answer to? Have you any idea how many of these vermin remain?"
He is referring to the Mites, not the centipede. Although if there are more of centipede's, that would be good to know as well.

As the centipede finally crashes to the ground under the force of Xelani's blow, Korinne turns and breathes a sigh of relief as she sees Rufus roll to his feet thanks to Castor's healing magics. She moves to where the priest stands, noting that he's obviously unsteady on his feet. "I believe you may be right...you certainly took a nasty bite from that thing as well," she agrees. "As far as treating venoms...it isn't really something I've had much practice with, but I could try."

Korinne thinks back to what she recalled about this particular type of centipede and its venom as she studies Castor's wound and the current effects the venom seems to be having on the half-elf.

Heal (Untrained): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Very quickly, she shakes her head. "I'm afraid I have no idea of how to even begin to treat this," she sighs with frustration. "Perhaps it will run its course soon?"
