SOOOOOOOOO freaking pathetic. Oh my gosh that is total garbage. Three freaking 1's for the attack roll, man. I think I could've destroyed 6 of those logs if it wasn't for those stinking 1's. Five easily. I'd at least pushed for 6.
Instead, I take down a whopping 3 logs! Man what horrible garbage that turned out to be. Ugh. So annoying.
After thinking about it, I know now why I don't have lead blades. Because it doesn't stack with my own personal axe. That's why it never even occurred to me. But it would've cost me a round in the process so I'm not so sure it would've been worth it. Not that it matters, but, I definitely would've pondered it if I would've had it prepared.

HA! You have GOT to be kidding me! Man I remember this chick. In case you're wondering, I put a link in the post to what I refer. Pretty fun stuff.
Crazy twist, DW. Crazy twist. I love it. But she is sooooo annoying. Now I want to cut her in two just to make sure she STAYS dead this time. :P

Marcel(Old Guy GM) is the DM in my Runelords game. He hasn't posted since March 9th. I sure hope it's nothing more than having to deal with this Covid mess.
He's been fantastically reliable. I joined the game back in 2014 when they were in Hook Mountain Massacre(Book 3 I think?). Anyway we are now in Book 6. So it's been a heck of a ride. I mean 6 years is pretty awesome. Heck, this game started in 2010! Discount the three year hiatus in between and we've been rolling for 7 years! That's pretty freaking cool.
Anyway, I'm hoping he makes it back so we can finish it because that would be awesome.
So per this:
Other Mastermind wrote:Marcel hasn't posted in a while. I'm not sure he's still with us. I'll give it until Monday perhaps? Then we'll just say he went on his own to have a discreet look around the place (and perhaps he'll never come back...). Let me know if you prefer we don't wait and just say he's on a scouting assignment until/if he shows up again.I guess I'd probably lean toward the scouting assignment. But therein lies the kicker: If we get somebody else and he does come back, then do we roll with 6? Is that to many? Or do we just keep rolling with 4 right now and see where it takes us?
I'm not sure how we want to roll with this. I know right now we'll be fine with just the four of us. But at some point we're probably going to need a trap guy I would think; but I don't really know. It just seems to me that EVERY game needs a trap guy. :P
So, first of all, my apologies for the disappearance. I suffered a stroke in March, just before everything shut down here in Michigan. As you can imagine, that was a bit higher on the priority scale than playing games. The good news is that everything is fine, and I've fully recovered. I appreciate all the kind words.

Wow! So glad all is well. Welcome back!
Marcel has been lurking around camp, staying stealthy and gathering info. We can look at those parts under spoilers in the IC thread if you want.

Man it is good to hear from you again, OG! And man that is scary to hear about your stroke. Thank God you made it through that okay. What a frightening ordeal that had to be. Especially during all this Covid crap just to make it doubly worse.
Good to see you back again, bud!

Holy cow dude! I am so sorry that you went through with that. I hope you recovered fully! March in Michigan was not the time to get any medical condition, especially in Metro Detroit. I hope you got good care, whichever hospital you were at.

This is what I have so far:
1. Is Irovetti planning to invade our land?
2. (id we get a yes) does he intend to invade this year?
3. Has he put troops in place already?
4. Does he have spies within our circle of advisors?

What was the total number of questions?
Can we easily find information in the largest library in pitax that would lead us to the location of the dragon that we most recently encountered?

Javell DeLeon |

Lol! "Almost done." Riiiiight. :) All I can think about is that one in Baldur's Gate. OH MY GOSH it took me over a FREAKING HOUR to finally defeat that guy without losing party members. Such a freaking beating that encounter was. Ugh.
I'm really sorry, I feel like I'm holding the whole campaign up. Trying to get us so more information on what's going on, but it's making everyone else wait and see...
Heck no! Don't be sorry! Bothers me in the absolute very extremely least. It's all good to me. My time's been kind of taken up anyway so it actually works out well for me. It'll be more "normal" - whatever that means - after Christmas.

I don't have a clue what our options even are now.
Does our kingdom have any kind of security forces?
Do we have any allies with military capabilities?
How do we normally control our borders? Do we?
What's the geography? Do we have any wide rivers, deep marshes or forbidding mountain ranges that protect our flanks?
Is our best strategy just to scry and fry Irovetti?

Other Mastermind |

I can try to provide what I have on my end, but this is a good time to review all this and move the story forward :)
Does our kingdom have any kind of security forces?
You have an army. Pitax probably has a bigger one, since it's a bigger realm, bubt it's invading (note that it hasn't attacked you so far. You've interrupted messages.
Do we have any allies with military capabilities?
You have allies from your previous conquests, which you might be able to leverage.
How do we normally control our borders? Do we?
There is no formal way of controlling your borders, except for the roads connecting it, but this is usually done in the towns where the roads lead.
What's the geography? Do we have any wide rivers, deep marshes or forbidding mountain ranges that protect our flanks?
Is our best strategy just to scry and fry Irovetti?
That's a wonderful question, but I won't answer it. Kriger also has a great idea ;)

Marcel D' Anjou |

There's only so many ways you move an army across country. You find the easiest access points: mountain passes, roads, etc. You do NOT take an army through the swamp (or even heavy forest) unless absolutely necessary. We should cover those routes into Frieland first. They are also the easiest to monitor.
It's not the soldiers that are the concern in cross-country travel, it's the supply train.

Dangit! I thought I put that in all my games.
Yeah I just went to my History and deleted ALL my cookies from "the beginning of time". That did the trick for me.
It was just easier for me than trying to find Paizo's cookies specifically. Especially considering I don't really know how to do that. :P

Oberlin |

Well, after multiple days, several calls and tons of emails, I finally have access back to my account. That sucked. I had the cookie problem and the paizo account had gotten blocked somehow on my browser. I will post today sometime. Sorry all.

I have never been interested in military stuff and no next to nothing about military strategy.
So... I could do with some suggestions for commune: what questions might I ask.
I suppose we are going to do some scrying as well. Who do we scry?
Anyone we need to contact with a sending spell?
I'm looking at these spells as useful. Can anyone think of any others?
Level 1
Read Weather - 48hrs ahead
Level 2
Level 3
Level 4
Divination - one week ahead 83% chance of working cryptic
Level 5
Ancestral Memory - one of my ancestors who experienced invasion would come and give me useful advice 83% chance of working.
Scrying - this is Oberlin's jam but I can do it in a pinch.
Commune - 13 yes no question answered by an agent of the dawnflower. In cases where one word answers would be misleading or contrary to diety's interests we get a short phrase instead.
Level 6
Prognostication - one year and a day ahead 83% chance of working cryptic
Perceive Betrayal - I can tell if anyone within 200ft has traitorous intent toward Kalsgrim. No save. no effect if they are immune to mind-affecting or thought-affecting. It lasts 13 hours. Might be worth casting before we gather our councillors? Just in case.
level 7
Greater Scrying - again, Oblerin's thing.

Oberlin |

The problem with playing a high level wizard for the first time is that you have no idea what spells are actually useful.
I didn't think to grab scry. I could probably buy it in game. Most of the spells are focused on adventuring and dealing with creatures with spell resistance or high will.
Level 3:
Wind wall
Magic Circle against Evil
Level 4:
Arcane Eye
Hallucinatory Terrain
Remove Curse
Permenancy
Planar Adaptation
Teleport
Level 5:
Truespeak
Analyze Dweomer
Level 6:
Disintegrate
Dispel Magic, Greater
Heroism, Greater
True Seeing
Level 7:
Banishment
Project Image
Reverse Gravity
Teleport, Greater
I have spell penetration and can do the metamagic piercing spell as well as crafting constructs, arms/armor, wonderous items, staves and scrolls.
I would like Oberlin to finish his project into spellcasting wands for 0 level spells that are useable by anyone. Perhaps make enough to outfit a unit of 50-100 soldiers with them?

I do have a military background. There are two paths we need to consider: the large and small scale conflicts.
On the large side, we are concerned with troop movements. It's very difficult to secretly move armies and their supply trains. Even if an army 'lives off the land' as they move, that kind drain on the region is hard to conceal. In a world where magic can a long way toward hiding things, it's still very hard to do. I would concentrate on ways to find out where they are moving. This is my goal with the Szcarni as an information network, they would know where the opportunities are.
On the small scale, we need to make sure that Pitax is not sending assassins at us - although I pity them if they do. Also watching for scrying attempts/spying on us.
I hope we have some sort of military force and/or allies that can put troops in the field. I wasn't here in the campaign where this should have been set up. This part of the campaign will be difficult without them. The book isn't called 'War of the River kingdoms' for nothing.

Malaswyn Tyddewi |

I can spend 13 hours each day rocking 'perceive betrayal' but it might not help against assassins if they have protected their minds.
I am thinking of using prognostication to ask if the Szcarni choice of ruler would also be a good one for us.
Ancestral memory for some advice on where to position forces.
Sending can drop messages to allies.
Who do we want to scry on?
Current commune questions I have in mind (need to be yes/no):
Does Irovetti plan to attack within the next X days?
Will he position forces in X?
I still feel a bit brain dead on this one. What other information do we need to learn?

I would say "we do" but I believe that's the kind of thing that we moved to "in the background".
We were doing Kingdom Building but that we moved to "in the background" as well. I do love me some kingdom building but it's been so long since we've done it I'd have to relearn it all.

Man that's a good question.
Maybe something to the effect of: Do they have a large enough army to surround us? If they do, we could be in a bit of trouble.
We seriously need to gather some better intelligence on these dudes outside of yes/no. But I guess we take what we can get.
Possibly: Will they strike from the north/south/east/west? That might help. If we can narrow down what direction they'll be coming from - as long as it's not from EVERY direction - that might help.
Just spitballing here. If I can think of anything else I'll throw it out. I'm not very good at these type things.
If nothing else, Kriger will take his broom and a couple of invisibility potions and go and scout it out.

You have made a few notable alliances: Kobolds, Centaurs, Tiger Lords. There were a few Ogres, but these you opted not to ally with, if you recall ;)
