Torod |

"Well, isn't Oleg's Trading Post a sight for sore eyes. And look, cute little Imira is out front waiting to greet us." Torod says rather loudly.
Once they get closer to the gates, he says to Imira in that same overloud voice, "You know we found some interesting things on our outing. Would you like to look over them? I'm sure you're bored and it will give you something to do."
Kenderkin

Eadric Cuthwulf |

Eadric comments to Garric, They were fine people indeed. I think that you and Durn would have gotten along well...
Upon return to the outpost, Eadric smiles in greeting to Imira, Did you miss us? Anything interesting happen while we were gone? Be sure to check with Torod, he has the berries we promised you.

Imiria |

"I found some other berries already and Svetlana is cooking up something she calls blackberry cobbler...."
"We can use the other berries you brought....Is the area safe now for little people?"
Imiria bats her eyes at Eadric.....
"I can help you figure out what that ring is for sure!"
Imiria takes out a small bottle of red fluid and stirs it with a feather she found around the barn.
Spellcraft DC 11
Imiria is casting the identify spell on the ring...
After awhile Imiria gives up studying the ring
Well if you must know it is....
A ring of feather falling....
"Can I borrow it, I been meaning to climb this big tree that I saw out in the forests....You would not want me to fall to my death would you?...I will bring it back!"
Imiria keeps pointing towards her missing hand as she notes how dangerous it is to climb things.....

KenderKin |
The heroes had settled in at Oleg's for enough time to ensure that the fallen comrades would be properly commemorated and respected.
A day passes easily enough while all the ongoings occur
in the OCC thread
The morning finds Oleg on the front porch of the Inn whittling a fist sized peice of wood.
He speaks quietly to you as you come outside....
"I guess yer goin tah go back out inna wilds today. Have yah thought where yer tah be headed?"
RP here or just discuss in OCC thread

Torod |

"Well we have the supplies to go out for several days at a time. I suggest we explore in ever widening circles with Oleg's here as the base of the circle each time."
Basically explore a ring of hexes then return to Oleg's.

KenderKin |
Torod
Did you let Imiria borrow the ring? It was not clear to me.
She will want to charge for healing and identifing stuff soon!
Basically for mounted operations you can explore a hex/day, at the moment riding through a single hex to get to another is not decreasing that time....
Likely difficult terrain will slow things up at some point.....

Obi Canicus |

A day passes easily enough while all the ongoings occur:
Obi is quieter than usual, and can be found throughout the day either helping Svetlana, trying to teach himself the flute away from everyone, or just looking out at the forest as he holds Bellis' holy symbol.
He speaks very little, if at all, to anyone.

Torod |

Torod responds to Imiria. Even if you don't understand the language he speaks in, you can hear the solemnity (is that a word) in his voice.
<Sylvan>
You have great power within you though you are new to it. In time, as you grow, so will it. Unless you learn to control that power it will consume you. So my advice to you is stay a child for a while longer yet. That will mean staying here or close to here and obeying Oleg and Svetlana. But as I have said before, that choice is yours.
When you have given me your answer, you may borrow the ring."

Imiria |

"I guess I can stay a child a bit longer and grow up here around Oleg's."
Sylvan
"The areas I roam will be ever wider, as I grow up, I think no further than my mount can carry me away and back in a single day is far enough."
"Thank you"
Imiria puts the ring on and seems to be deep in thought as she gets used to the ring....
On sudden impulse she climbs the highest part of Oleg's home struggling to climb with her hand and stump....
She does not give up till she is on top of the roof.....
Then she jumps out and falls swiftly 5 feet but then floats down like one of the winter leaves on the crisp fall breeze..
"That was worth it!"
She begins climbing again.....

Torod |

Torod smiles
<Sylvan>

Eadric Cuthwulf |

Eadric spends the day checking in on the prisoners, helping around the outpost and writing letters to Durn's and Bellis' families.
He somberly overseas the burials and leads the group in prayers as they say goodbye to their fallen companions.
Afterwards, he makes preparations for further explorations and mapping of the Greenbelt.
He agrees that an ever widening circle around the outpost seems the best course of action...

Ellaria |

"Well we have the supplies to go out for several days at a time. I suggest we explore in ever widening circles with Oleg's here as the base of the circle each time."
Basically explore a ring of hexes then return to Oleg's.
Ellaria nods. "I agree with Torod. If we begin exploring we should familiarize ourselves with the surroundings, and could be able to come back quickly if needed or if something happens here. Roaming into the wilderness seems dangerous for me, for now at least.

KenderKin |
As you head out from Oleg's in that wide circle previously described leaving Oleg's hex and into the hex above the spider's den you are on the look-out for any dangers.
Along the southern border of this hex you see a hut with a whisp of smoke barely clearing the top of the the chimney as the dampness and chill of the day speaks of winter.
You.....

Eadric Cuthwulf |

After spotting the hut, Eadric turns to the others and asks, Should we introduce ourselves and see if we can be of any service to whomever lives in yonder hut?
Can we tell what sort of livelihood the occupants pursue from anything visible? (ie. trapping, farming etc)

KenderKin |
The hut is in disarray neither trapping nor any other profession seems obviously connected to the hut.
There are carcasses of small animals, lizards, birds, etc...
large and small rocks, quartz and minerals of several along the base of the wall.
There are rows of dried herbs and flowers, and brush hung along the walls of the hut....
A woven basket at the front appears to be filled with bunches of moss and mushrooms of all sorts......
As you watch a strange looking man with wild hair comes out and picks up a few pieces of wood...

KenderKin |
The old man comes back out again and looks at you with his strange eyes....
"Well don't just stand there all day come in."
The man's voice has a high pitch and he speaks rapidly as if in a hurry to finish something...
He comes back out and asks...
"Did you happen to bring any fangberries. I am running low on fangberry juice."
Knowledge arcane
DC 12
Fangberry juice is used as a base in making potions

KenderKin |
"What no fangberries!"
The man continues in his high pitched voice...
"Listen there is a large thicket of wild fangberries growing about 55 miles southwest of Oleg’s. If you bring back enough berries to make
fangberry juice for seven potions. I will sell you potions I usually sell to Oleg at costs for one month."

KenderKin |
"Ah welcome one and all I am Bokken. I make potions an can make anything you can think of or I can think of...."
"I see yah have noticed my finger my younger brother..."
Bokken spits as he says this bitterly holding up his right hand and indicating his missing pinky finger
“Bastard cut that offa me the last time he hit my mother, Desna rest her soul. But he took off right after to live in a hollow tree down south rather than face the guards, so I guess it all worked out well enough.”
If asked about potions

Eadric Cuthwulf |

Greetings Bokken! I am Eadric and my companions here are Obi, Garric, Ellaria and Torod. Together we are the Greenbelt Wardens. We have been tasked with bringing order, justice and prosperity to these lands. In pursuit of this goal, we are exploring and mapping this area.
We gladly accept your generous offer and are surely to bring you back some fangberries whenever we come across the patch you speak of. I'm sure one of my more learned companions here will recognize that which you desire. Isn't that right? Eadric looks to the others for confirmation before continuing, I cannot say when exactly our travels will take us that far to the south, as we are just beginning our explorations, but rest assure we will bring them to you as soon as we can, duties per-missing. Is there anything else that we might do for you?
This brother you speak of, are you saying that he has fled south into the Greenbelt? What is his name? Do you wish us to apprehend him for you? To hear your accusations and possibly face justice?
Have you any other information that we might find useful in regards to our endeavor? Anything that you might share with us would be greatly appreciated!

KenderKin |
Bokken is obviously well past his prime and he looks to you confused for a moment.
"I can not seem to remember his name right now, but I know what he did."
"My inventory of potions is running low do you happen to need a potion"
Bokken motions toward a few potion bottles....they resemble the ones sold at Oleg's.....

KenderKin |
Bokken has the following potions on hand two potions of cure light wounds, two potions of endure elements, and a potion of cure moderate
wounds.....

Eadric Cuthwulf |

Thank you for your time! We'll check back in with you from time to time... and return with some fangberries soon hopefully.
Once outside Eadric mounts up ready to continue exploring and mapping. After consulting with the map he asks the others, We can continue to the south and circle around the area of the berry patch...
Head to the hex to the east of the Spider Nest and then the continue around that hex exploring the unmapped hexes in a circle back around to Oleg's hex. Sound good?

KenderKin |

KenderKin |
The way I am seeing mapping and exploration going is it is going fairly quickly right now for 2 reasons
1. The terrain is beneficial to seeing what is around you even at some distance.
2. The horses are having an easy time of the terrain and all PC's are having an easy time riding them.
So I have no problem with multiple hexes in a day (up to three should not be a problem).....
Now that will likely change with changing terrain
Dropping in dense forest or adverse conditions to one hex/day
Also realize each hex might have baddies or wandering monsters
Right now smooth sailing.........

KenderKin |
With the grassy fields being fairly deep yet not so much as to touch your feet as they dangle over each side of your mount.
A large jack-rabbit pops up from your right and heads through the brush directly across your path no more than 10 feet in front of you he runs at top speed!
The horses pause as the rabbit moves...
Garrick
Assume you have an arrow ready so if you want to take a shot!

KenderKin |
Hexes one and two both go so easily with nothing more to note than a jack-rabbit....
The day passes towards afternoon as you map most of hex 3
An old lightning-struck oak tree stands atop a
low hill at this spot—the only tree in a 2-mile
radius, in fact. Approaching from the north,
the tree looks eerily like a claw reaching for
the clouds.
DC 20 survival check +(ranger bonus+vs humans)
In a hollow amid the tree’s roots
on the north side a section of earth there has been
disturbed....
......if you are reading this you might also note the map found on the bandit had a similar tree.....

Torod |

Can I take 10 on the Survival rolls? If not Survival 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
The group stops for their midday meal. They choose a distinctive looking tree to make camp near. As they set things up, Torod notices, "The ground here has been disturbed recently. Perhaps a grave or buried treasure or skins being tanned. I'm not sure what, but I think there's something buried here."

Eadric Cuthwulf |

Eadric notices the similarity between this tree and the one from the map in the dead bandit's boot.
Well now, it would seem that buying those shovels from Oleg is looking like a good call right about now... Eadric smiles at Torod as he speaks.
Eadric fetches his shovel from his saddle bags and moves to the disturbed patch of ground, intent on digging up whatever is buried...
Was that Imiria in the care of Bokken, or the other way around? :)

KenderKin |
The ground gives under the shovel as you begin to excavate under the tree....
After 10 minutes of digging a tied bundle of heavy leather and cordage is obvious in the dirt.....
It is easy enough to get the bundle out of the hole and see that likely a heavy leather cloak was used to wrap up the contents of the bundle....
If you unwrap the cloak
finely crafted dagger,
a wand of some sort
silver ring
spellbook
Unfortunately, rain seeping down into the cache has
damaged the spellbook
and a scrollcase with a scroll in it
mini-mage duel still in the works?

KenderKin |

Ellaria |

Ellaria watched the others dig, but didn't do it herself. As they found the package wrapped in the cloak, she decided to unwrap it. A slow smile spreads over her face as she understands these items used to belong to a magic user of some sort. She starts exmining the items that were hidden, but is disturbed by the wolves bursting into the group's sight.
Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10. Ellaria will cast sleep on the wolves, trying to catch them all in her spell.
