Dungeon Kobold
Astraden is given the powers of flight while Eben conjures up an illusion to confound the sea beast.
Round 6: Tanith, Farrukh and Carina are up!
Dungeon Kobold
By the way, while the beast has a lot of cover against Carina and Farrukh, the underwater rules don't award them any cover or concealment from being above water. Farrukh is pretty sure he's right above the creature.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
"Thanks Rodrigo", Tanith says after allowing himself a second to get accustomed again to the unnatural sensation of being weightless.
Born on unseen wings, the big man zips down and scoops up Astraden. "Going down!"
Eben MacTeague
"Wouldn't say no to a lift... if this thing breaks out it's way faster than me in the water."
Dungeon Kobold
Tanith, Rodrigo didn't give flight to you—he gave it to Astraden. He only edited it for you when he thought Astraden already had air walk.
Astraden Limhaare
"Thanks Rodrigo!" Astraden calls, air-stepping a little ways backwards.
Round 5 Addendum: Five-foot step (no action).
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Bah!
Tanith continues monkey-barsing.
Climb (strength surge, hope): 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 2 + 3 = 24
Dungeon Kobold
Farrukh moves, heedless of the serpent beneath him. Strangely, it does not take advantage of his reckless movement. Perhaps its senses do not extend above water.
You just tried to exchange phone numbers with death, Rynjin.
Carina is up.
Dungeon Kobold
Yes, but you started out well within the serpent's reach.
Carina Viera
Round 6: Actions
Full-Round Action: Withdraw from above the water-snake monster, moving closer to Tanith
Carina flies away from the water snake, not willing to take a chance on it leaping out of the water to try and eat her.
Dungeon Kobold
Round 6: Crimson Serpent
[dice=Tail @ "Wind Warrior"]1d20+18[/dice] Will Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
There is a rapid swell in the waters as Eben leaves. Then nothing. The waves of the lake slowly shift. The serpent beneath seems to be confused down there, going this way and that. Searching, maybe.
A moment goes by, silent save for the constant soft roar from the waterfall echoing on wide cavern walls.
1d100 ⇒ 49
With a roar, the great lake monster surges out of the lake. Foam and salty waters spray in every direction. The crimson's serpent jaws lunge forth and snap down, closing like a steel vice upon—
—thin air some feet above Farrukh's head. The serpent has chosen a random location to assault. It shakes its vast primeval head, looking disoriented. Water and saliva drips onto Farrukh's and Eben's silent forms as the beast's head cocks back and forth, appearing to listen.
After a moment, the serpent snorts and pulls back, lowering its head back beneath the surface of the lake.
Round 6: Astraden, Eben and Rodrigo are up.
Rodrigo Dantares
Rodrigo finishes s#@%ting his breeches, and then flies over to Tanith. "Hey, bub. Sorry to leave you hangin'." He chants a spell, and then touches the brawler. "Should be able to fly now."
'Nother AP fly, this time on the big guy.
Astraden Limhaare
Astraden folds her knees and flies up between the two groups, switchbacking along the way by spinning in midair. She shouts downward, "Farrukh, bring him up here!"
Would Eben be able to stand anywhere in this crevice?
Round 6: Half speed 45 degree upward movement (move action) and the same with 5' deducted for turning (move action). Magic circle against evil lasts 867 rounds, magic circle against law lasts 868 rounds, shield of faith on Farrukh lasts 68 rounds, air walk lasts 883 rounds, copycat lasts 3 rounds, shield of faith on Eben lasts 88 rounds, and shield of faith on Astraden lasts 89 rounds.
Eben MacTeague
Eben sweats a bit as he furrows his brow (or maybe that's just the water spray), and concentrates on his wind warrior illusion. With a roar of wind, the image comes soaring out of the lake, hovering some distance above the serpents last known position. It begins repeatedly- and noisily- clanging its swords together, like it's a clock tower gone wrong.
"Just hustle to the next waterfall, and you can let me drop from there if you have to..." he says, as quietly as he can.
AC is 26/19/20 while haste & shield of faith are active.
Dancing lights lasts 3 rounds, moment of greatness lasts 15 rounds, good hope lasts 16 rounds, cat's grace lasts 17 rounds.
Dungeon Kobold
The waters slowly settle back down as the serpent's prey eludes its grasp by a hair.
We can exit Initiative for now. What's the plan?
Carina Viera
Carina promptly does so. "Yep. Yep. Before giant water monster comes back."
Dungeon Kobold
Sorry, this took longer than it should've.
The party descends—this time apparently with Eben being carried along by Farrukh—and in time they arrive at a deep basin fed by a second underground river (this one also possessing the same red-tinting minerals). There is nothing here, save a large population of small white crabs, and Spiny's Six continues down.
Hundreds of feet further down, the waterfall hits a series of projections, creating lots of mist, cascading water, and difficult climbing. It is impossible to stay dry in here, especially for those flying in the middle of the shaft.
Perceptions: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (9) + 24 = 331d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 131d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 231d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 181d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 291d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 41d20 + 20 ⇒ (4) + 20 = 24
As they journey down, in spite of the roaring waves, Astraden and Farrukh hear the faint clinking of metal armor from down below.
Carina Viera
"Or maybe it's those wind warrior things again." Carina starts fumbling with another extract, gulping it down.
Using an extract of shield.
Astraden Limhaare
On the way down, Astraden mutters, "Bala," and grips her shield a little tighter. She releases a couple healing bursts while the party is grouped together.
Channel positive energy (healing): 6d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 2, 3, 6, 3) = 20
Channel positive energy (healing): 6d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 2, 1, 3) = 17 [4/6] [73/73]
"I think it's the wind warriors," she whispers in response to Farrukh. "Too bad we have no way to parley with them. Or sneak past, for that matter."
Bull's strength on myself.
Eben MacTeague
While journeying down the shaft nestled securely in Farrukh's manly arms, Eben freshens up his spells, bringing a resurgent wave of reassurance to the party and nimbleness to himself. He finishes by summoning another batch of floating light balls. "You can just drop me if you need to grab your sword and shield. I'll... try and land somewhere I can stand and shoot arrows."
KC, would I be able to stand on that shelf of rock before the next waterfall, or is the current too strong?
Recasting good hope and cat's grace, then recasting dancing lights.
Good hope lasts 78 rounds, cat's grace lasts 79 rounds, dancing lights lasts 10 rounds.
ETA: Using an AP to cast good hope & save the 3rd level slot.
Dungeon Kobold
Can you mark it? The current's pretty strong everywhere, and the river itself fills pretty much all of the cave floors down here. But I'm not sure where you mean.
Eben MacTeague
Put an arrow on the map for it. The water looked shallower and non-pooling there.
Failing that, could I stand on a solid note?
Dungeon Kobold
It may be shallower, but it's moving faster.
I'll allow the solid note. That spell has got to be good for something.
Astraden Limhaare
I'll allow the solid note. That spell has got to be good for something.
Hey, Athelstan used it for the grappling hook! Totally useful. Even though he could have just hooked it to the wall.
Since everyone's geared up for hostilities, Astraden shouts, "Hey, windy things! Gonna run away again?"
Astraden Limhaare
"Right, let's keep moving."
Astraden flies down another hundred feet.
Carina Viera
Carina makes sure Tanith is close by before following.
Dungeon Kobold
The group descends down towards the falls.
The wind warriors streak down to greet them.

Round 1: Eben is up!

2 people marked this as a favorite.
"Okay, this is my stop." Eben says as the group rounds the vertical bend. He flicks his hand as though throwing a playing card and a faintly glowing card materializes in the air near where his feet are dangling. With a very, very cautious step he plants a foot on the precarious surface and transfers his weight to it while disentangling from Farrukh's embrace. "We'll always have this flight to remember, Farrukh..." He sends his lights ahead up the shaft and looks straight up at the oncoming warriors, fingers dancing on his bowstring in anticipation.
Standard action: casting solid note, move action: separating from Farrukh and stepping onto the solid note. Moving the dancing lights to float about halfway between us and the wind warriors.
Good hope lasts 77 rounds, cat's grace lasts 78 rounds, dancing lights lasts 9 rounds.

We all know Eben, with no ranks in Perform (sing), cannot hold a note.
The question is...
Dungeon Kobold
Round 1: Wind Warriors
The wind warriors descend down, rapidly surrounding the party from above and below.
Flat-footed ACs.
Longswords @ Farrukh: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (2) + 18 = 201d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 311d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 18 + 1 = 35 Damage (on 31; 35): 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 131d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Longsword @ Astraden: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (7) + 18 = 25 Damage (on 25): 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Round 1: Everyone but Eben is up!
Rodrigo Dantares
"S+&%.." Rodrigo mutters, seeing the group surrounded by the nimble warriors. "Glad we rested before coming down here..."
He weaves another spell of haste around his companions, burning through his arcane reserves like wildfire through dry brush.
Haste on everyone.
Dungeon Kobold
Oh, I should note that you're getting Magic Circle Against Law against these things.
Astraden Limhaare
Astraden grimaces as one of the sprightly warriors manages to cut a gash under her arm. She ducks under the assailant and draws her rapier before summoning a double.
Fly to move less than half speed and remain aloft (fly, good hope): 1d20 - 3 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (10) - 3 + 4 + 1 = 12
Concentration to defensively cast copycat: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Round 1: Five-foot step (no action), draw rapier (move action), and attempt to cast spell (standard action). Magic circle against evil lasts 860 rounds, magic circle against law lasts 861 rounds, shield of faith on Farrukh lasts 61 rounds, air walk lasts 876 rounds, shield of faith on Eben lasts 81 rounds, shield of faith on Astraden lasts 82 rounds, and copycat lasts 7 rounds.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed
Despite being caught off guard again, Tanith's iron-like hide and force armor protects him from the sneak attack.
"You know, I was doing you guys a favor when I let you go before. You're not getting a second chance", he growls before smashing his fists into the nearest wind warrior.
Flurry (hope): 1d20 + 15 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (10) + 15 + 2 - 3 = 24

Damage: 1d8 + 8 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 2 + 6 = 17
Dungeon Kobold
Tanith delivers two crushing blows to the chestplate of the wind warrior before him. It hisses in response.
Farrukh and Carina are up.
Farrukh Al'Khatel
Completely forgot I have Shield of Faith. Put my proper AC in brackets (and +2 to FF and Touch as well). Doesn't change anything because I was Flatfooted though.
Farrukh lays into a Wind Warrior.
"Getting real tired of you guys, honestly."
Slash: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31
Damage: 1d6 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23
Bash: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22

Bash Iterative: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 18 ⇒ (1) + 18 = 19
Dungeon Kobold
So, are you and Tanith aware that you have Haste?
Farrukh's last slashing bash is absorbed by a certain anti-law spell surrounding him, but his first two connect, brutally scraping across the wind warrior's armored arm.
Carina.
Dungeon Kobold
If Eben wants to post his action in advance (as it will directly follow Carina's), he can feel free.
