Sekhemre of Karnak
|
Sekhemre gives Wadi an odd look.
"Regardless of whether or not these men and women were simply misguided fools, they were still part of a plot to bring pain, suffering, and ultimately death to hundreds, if not thousands. Are you suggesting we simply give them a light tap on the wrist, and let them go if they offer their most sincere apologies?"
Fog Darksmiter
|
"I agree with Sek. No matter the guidance of their actions, they have attempted mass genocide. They will not survive back at the town. Further, I believe that they Fay will want to see that the culprits are dead. It may help us, and the Society in the future if we improve the ties with the Fey in this manor."
Once a decision has been made, Fog will heal the group, assuming anyone needs it...
Aldred of Augustana

What strange times we live in, when good folk of Andoran advocate death, and it is a man of Cheliax who argues for clemency and fair trial … but I must side with my countrymen in this case.
“As Wadi says, who are we to judge … but are those in Falcon’s Hollow any better qualified? You know that if we take them back there, they will not receive fair trial. Passions are high, and the Lumber Consortium has too much sway – they would by lynched within the hour. Had Alie’s magic not been so potent, they would have died by our blades and spells before now … we do them a kindness they little deserve by killing them in their sleep.”
He looks about at the scene of recent debauched revelry, then back at Wadi. “Misguided? Repentance? We all saw what took place here … these people may have been misguided at first, but to partake so fully in this foul ceremony, to follow a depraved and unholy goddess, to take part in a plan to kill everyone in this valley? They made their choice, and they chose evil. Pharasma will judge them now.”
Wadi Ahk'kolon
|
Wadi looks across to his fellow Pathfinders, and slowly nods his head. "I won't oppose your actions here, I just want you to keep in mind I have seen this sort of rationalization before, in my homeland. My fear is we may come to like having this power over other men too much."
Wadi then steps away and allows the executions to take place.

Just after Kayluss stepped away from the carnage around him, the headless zombie belatedly exploded in a fountain of gore with blood and chunks splattering the banquet table. The remains of a four fingered hand sail across the table landing near Alie. The poor light was still clear as day for the gnome and the sparkle of a ring on the hand caught her eye. Closer examination reveals it to be a stylized 'L' and 'B' in reverse for marking an insignia in wax.
The deaths of the remaining cultists were swift, and certainly more merciful than the disease they were infected with and determined to spread as far as possible. Still with the time pressure of acting before the spell would wear off, it took a moment before anyone realized that now you didn't have anyone who could tell you where the other groves growing tainted flowers were hidden. At least you had the basin to prevent any new ones.
After you finished the grisly work in the clearing the walk back to town was thankfully quick. Word spreads about your return and once you have cleaned up, half the town was ready to buy you drinks and dinner. The innkeeper insisted on putting you up in the 'master suites' for the evening which turned out to be a slightly bigger version of a normal room designed by a country man with a gaudy idea of what might make a room fancy. Still the beds were clean and spacious and after very publicly saving the town today, only as private as you might want them to be.
Sometime too early for sunrise, you all wake from your sleep to find twinkling lights darting around the room only to realize you are no longer alone. A strikingly beautiful redhead, no older than sixteen if she were mortal is sitting at the foot of Kayluss' bed. Mortal, however, is one thing you would never mistake her for. Her beauty is completely unearthly like nothing you've ever experienced or imagined. It catches in your throat leaving you breathless, unable to speak and eventually even look upon her. Long pointed ears poke out through her carefully combed hair, but it was something in her eyes that let you know without a doubt that she was timeless- immortal. "You saved my people today Kayluss Baradin, Wadi Ahk'kolon, Fog Darksmiter, Aldred of Augustana, Sekhemre of Karnak, and Alie Saechel. You are known to us and will be honored as heroes of the Darkmoon Wood. Tonight we celebrate you..." She reaches out and takes Kayluss by one hand and Wadi by another pulling them from their beds. Remarkably you find any hangover you might have had is gone and can't imagine refusing her. The walls of the room fade away to reveal a summer glen and you all standing in it barefoot, "My brewers are hard at work replicating the herbalist's remedy, but that isn't all they do. Drink with me..."
The rest of the night is a more or less a fugue. Later between the six of you, you never manage to put together more than a few glimpses of shared memories, but when you wake in the morning it is one of the Society trainees shaking you out of a deep sleep, "Venture Captain Brackett wants to see you now." That can't be right considering Brackett is back in Almas, but as you wake enough to look around you realize that you are indeed back in the Grand Cathedral lodge of Almas in the visiting quarters. Brackett is highly amused during the briefing, "You all had me worried there gentlemen, and lady. When a team up and goes missing out of their beds in the field it isn't often that they turn up three weeks later in the middle of the night drunk and dancing stark naked in the lodge with their gear all piled neatly in the middle of the floor between them. Anyone care to explain?"
.....
Congratulations on a scenario well done :)
I hope you don't mind me taking some liberty with the closing scene there. As written you never encounter the fey other than a satyr due to time constraints of organized play, but hey- its pbp we've got nothing but time and I thought it would be nice if they had a little more presence. Felt like I needed to do that narrative style though so I wouldn't go too far off the rails of the scenario by playing out new scenes.
Faction Missions:
Andoran +2
Cheliax +2 (I think I forgot to respond to your last one for Wadi, but it was fine.)
Osirion +2
Taldor +2
Loot:
Don't worry about writing these on your character sheet or anything as they convert to gold on your chronicle sheet. I'm letting you know what the individual items were in case you wanted to buy anything as a keep sake and also in case the magic items might come in handy if anyone needs help overcoming the palepox in the end.
Speaking of which, Aldred and anyone else still infected will need to save it out now, or use items or pay for healing to get cured. You need two consecutive saves (DC 18, DC 20 for Alie) to fully overcome it. You have +5 on every roll due to access to antiplague. Also- try to id the items below.
2 Flasks - Detect Magic and Spellcraft (DC 16 and 20) to ID
masterwork scalemail
masterwork scythe
silver ring made of interlocking braids Spellcraft (DC 20) to ID

Chronicle Sheet Rewards
Don't read these until it is certain your character has survived the disease.
+1 XP, +2PA, +607 gp
Exemplar of Falcon's Hollow:
You have saved the town of Falcon's Hollow from certain death. As a result, you are now a famed Andoran adventurer and gain a +1 circumstance bonus on any Charisma based checks with any citizen of Andoran.
Hero of the Fey:
You have saved the Fey of Darkmoon Wood from certain death. As a result, you may automatically succeed on one Charisma based check when dealing with fey in the future. Fey are chaotic and their memories tend to run short- as a result, you may use this boon only once, after which it is discarded.
Option to buy:
Potion of Remove Disease 750 gp
Ring of Protection +1 2,000 gp
Scroll of Lesser Restoration 150 gp
I'll email out scans of the sheets in the next couple days.
If we decide to do another one I'll wait until January to begin. That way the holidays are a little more free and you have access to play these characters at regular games if you get the option over the break.
Oh- and if you have Craft, Profession, or Perform you can roll for your day job here and I'll include it on your sheet.

Spellcraft on the flasks 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Spellcraft on the ring 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
DM, Alie has made one Fort save already, so I will just roll one more using the antiplague, if that is acceptable.
Fortitude save 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
OK, I can't make that crappy Fort save apparently. How much would it cost for Alie to get healed, lol?
ithuriel
|
The fort save is pretty tough. Here are your options:
1) Roll it out until the disease gets to a point where you are worried. Then try another method.
2) Have someone use the heal skill (DC 20) to grant you an additional +4 to your saves which will stack with the +5 from antiplague. You can aid each other to hit that. You could probably pay someone to do this if the group can't manage it.
3) Potion of Remove Disease (750 gp or 2 PA) Not automatic. CL check of 1d20+5 vs DC 20 in your case.
4) Scroll of Remove Disease (375 gp or 2 PA) Same method as above.
5) Pay a caster to cast Remove Disease (150 gp or 1 PA) Same method as above, but I assume you could pay more for a higher caster level. 1 Prestige will only get you the lowest caster level of 5.
If you are paying gold (CL*3*10) = cost and the CL = the mod to the d20 for removing your disease.
Hold off on your attempts until all attempts to ID the items have been made.

Fog: Spellcraft 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 (flask 1)
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 (flask 2)
Spellcraft 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 (ring)
Sekhemre: Spellcraft 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 (flask 1)
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 (flask 2)
Spellcraft 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 (ring)
Neither Wadi nor Aldred have spellcraft, but Sekhemre manages to identify all three.
Potion of Cure Light, Ring of Protection and Potion of Remove Disease. Also I think you have another scroll of Lesser Restoration from the cart if things get bad.
So lets see if you can get through the palepox...
You can have an npc heal roll at +9 every day for the treat disease thing to get the +4 bonus on the check. Laurel would have done that for free, but in our version either the faeries or healers back at the Grand Cathedral in Almas tried to help you.
Day 2 for Alie, final result 16. Con Damage 1d2 ⇒ 2, Cha Damage 1d2 ⇒ 2.
Help for Day 3, Heal 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Aid Kayluss 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Aid Fog 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Aid Wadi 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Success. You have +9 on your day 3 attempt, but you may have lost one from your fort save due to the Con loss.
Fog Darksmiter
|
Fog: Spellcraft 1d20 + 4 (flask 1)
1d20 + 4 (flask 2)
Spellcraft 1d20 + 4 (ring)
Totally forgot to check if I had ranks to try that. Grrr...
Help for Day 3, Heal 1d20 + 9
Aid Kayluss 1d20 + 2
Aid Fog 1d20 + 4
Aid Wadi 1d20 + 1
Success. You have +9 on your day 3 attempt, but you may have lost one from your fort save due to the Con loss.
Fog should have +8 rather than +4, not that it makes a lot of difference...
Alie Saechel
|
Dm, yep I lost one from my Con bonus. So I think that makes my total bonus to the roll +8, or is it + 13 if I use one of the antiplague potions? I am goign to roll with the +13, if I am wrong, just subtract 5 from the roll.
Alie Fort save 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
Dammit. I might just have to try and pay for the heal, since it is looking less and less likely I can get there.
Alie Saechel
|
If we are able to get that identified, I would greatly appreciate the team letting me chug that puppy. My gnomish cuteness isn't helping against this stupid plague!
And as always, ith, thanks for running this for us.
Alie Saechel
|
I am happy to roll again, just want to know what my total modifiers to the Fort save should be...
ithuriel
|
In that case, blow the scroll. Will the heal check help improve chances too?
Each day an attempt is made, a successful Heal check of DC 20 will grant Alie +4 on her save. You can aid each other to make sure this happens. This is from the Treat Disease entry under heal. At this point, I'm going to wave a hand and say the primary person takes 10+9 for 19 and Fog aids with 10+8 = 18 to dispense with all the tangential dice rolling. I'm not so sure that you could take 10 in this way, but I think between the full group it is unlikely that you would fail the DC 20 once everyone rolled to aid every time and it is a bit tedious.
So every attempt to save vs palepox will get +5 alchemical and +4 competence bonus.Alie's daily check = d20 + 3 (fort save) +5 alchemical +4 (competence) - 1 for every 2 points of Con damage vs DC 20
Aldred's daily check = d20 + 0 (fort save) +5 alchemical +4 (competence) - 1 for every 2 points of Con damage
Alie: Day 3 Con 1d2 ⇒ 1, Cha 1d2 ⇒ 2
I'm also going to say that Fog waited until day 3 to use the scroll so that he could potentially take full advantage off it. Result of 4 will reset Alie to 0 Con damage. 0 Cha will eventually make her pass out, but 0 Con will kill her.
So at this point Alie has no Con damage going into Day 4.
Alie- you can make your own roll for the potion. 1d20+5
ithuriel
|
I made a little chart to make sure I was tracking everything right. I had the number of the days off (day 2 was the morning after you found the cure) so the actual number of days you've had it is one more than I was saying above, but it doesn't change anything as far as outcome.
Alie: Going into Day 5 has 0 Con damage and 6 Cha damage.
Aldred: Going into Day 3 has 0 Con damage and 2 Cha damage.
Alie Saechel
|
DM, so is my total to Fort, just the +5 you listed as the last sentence in your next to last post, or is it the +9 from the alchemical and competence bonus from earlier in that post? Also, I assume I still get my +3 to Fort save for Con and stuff as well.
I have to be away this afternoon, so if you want to get this resolved quickly, rather than waiting for me to come back tonight, please feel free to go ahead and roll the savce for Alie, whatever the modifier is. Thanks.
ithuriel
|
Hah. I just wrote it out broken up into where all the numbers are coming from 3 posts up.
Alie's daily check = d20 + 3 (fort save) +5 alchemical +4 (competence) - 1 for every 2 points of Con damage vs DC 20
Aldred's daily check = d20 + 0 (fort save) +5 alchemical +4 (competence) - 1 for every 2 points of Con damage vs DC 18
1d20+5 is what you roll if you drink the potion of remove disease. The potion gets no other bonus to its roll. It is a simple caster level check vs the DC of palepox. However, if it succeeds you have beaten the disease, no two consecutive saves like you need with natural healing.
Aldred of Augustana
|
Fort save for Day 3 (assuming the alchemical bonus and the competence bonus apply): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Damage Con: 1d2 ⇒ 2 Damage Cha: 1d2 ⇒ 2. Total 2 Con Damage and 4 Cha damage.
Fort save for Day 4 (assuming the alchemical bonus and the competence bonus apply): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Damage Con: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Damage Cha: 1d2 ⇒ 1. Total of 3 Con Damage and 5 Cha damage.
Fort save for Day 5 (assuming the alchemical bonus and the competence bonus apply): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Damage Con: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Damage Cha: 1d2 ⇒ 1. Total of 4 Con Damage and 6 Cha damage.
Fort save for Day 6 (assuming the alchemical bonus and the competence bonus apply): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Fort save for Day 7 (assuming the alchemical bonus and the competence bonus apply): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Full details of the rewards are in the spoiler above.
Gold was 607.
Remove disease: Spell Level (3) x Caster Level (minimum 5) x 10 = Cost of paying a caster.
Result 1d20 + Caster Level you paid for vs DC 18 for Aldred or DC 20 for Alie
Max caster level available is 15 which costs 450 gp and grants 1d20+15
Alie Saechel
|
Here goes again...
Alie 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Huzzah! Now do I have to do two of these fort saves in a row, or is one sufficient? I will roll again, just in case.
Second day Alie save 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
So I guess Alie lives!
ithuriel
|
At this point Alie didn't use the potion so first you should drink that and see if you get lucky. 1d20+5. Roll a 13 or better (for a total of 18) and Aldred is instantly cured.
If that doesn't work we will pull off some minor chicanery to give you your full resources. We assume you ended the chronicle still diseased, now you have a chronicle sheet with gold and 2 prestige points. 1 prestige point will get you another casting of remove disease at minimum caster level (5) and/or you could spend gold for castings of remove disease as described above. But we have to resolve the palepox situation now rather than rolling it into your next game because you could potentially die in the unspecified amount of downtime.

Let's see if the dice finally decide to go my way (when it counts) in this game - after all, the dice roller seems to like me well enough in the other pbps ...
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Nope.

I realise I am getting ahead of myself, here, but could I tempt you to run 2-01: Before the Dawn, next?
Sounds good. It's a two parter so that means 2-01 and then 2-02. I'm eventually working towards 51 and 52 in Kaer Maga because I think they'd be especially fun as a pbp, but I'd like you all to be stronger before we get there.
Mothman- Sorry, but you are still at the tyranny of the dice.
Your options at this point:
Prestige: You have 2 prestige points. Getting someone to cast Remove Disease on you costs 1. It comes at minimum caster level though, so it is the same roll as above. 1d20+5 vs 18. Alternatively, lesser restoration also costs 1 prestige point if you wanted to give yourself more days instead and therefore more chances to overcome it naturally.
Gold: Pick your caster level and pay.
Continue daily rolls: You are currently at 5 Con damage giving you a -2 on further rolls.
Day 7, Con 1d2 ⇒ 1 Cha 1d2 ⇒ 1

Ith, I would be stoked to play any scenario you wanted to run. The only two I've played in are the two you have ran for us...

Ith,
First off Thanks for another great game! I had a lot of fun and loved the elements you added to the scenario(after we finished I bought it to run for my RL group). I would love to be a part of what ever you run next. The Before Dawn series would be great since I have those already but would like to see how you flesh it out before I actualy run it. Do you have those Scenarios? If not I'm more that willing to buy you one as a thank you/holiday gift.
Thanks Again,
Evan (a.k.a Kayluss)

Not a bad idea here. Paizo has Gift Certificates that can be purchased to other gamers, so that is the ideal way to give Ith the means to purchase more PFS scenarios.

Aldred>> Whoo! Finally. I was getting worried that the first time I would kill a PC in PFS would be by disease after the scenario. So you go into your next scenario with 2/0 prestige, but you'll make it up over time. It doesn't limit your purchasing cap by having spent some prestige, just the "gifts" they might grant you as a valuable agent. But it is also there to save you and it did just that, so it was well spent.
Re: scenarios>> I haven't picked up 2-01 or 2-02 yet. If you want to grab either of them, I'll gladly put them to use but at the same time I'm not bothered by picking up the scenarios. I just consider it part of dming. And think of the money saved on minis by running online ;)

I'm in a weird timezone for most of you guys (GMT +2, which is Eastern +7), but I do run realtime online games from time to time with a virtual tabletop. I might run one this Thursday at noon eastern (5pm GMT) if any of you wanted to get in another scenario during the downtime. I know Nevvynxxx is closer to my timezone at least. I think it is something like 3am for the Australians though. Let me know if you might want to get in on that. Not sure what scenario yet. I'll have to pick something that works for another guy who has played more than you guys have.

Ith,
Expect 2-01 sometime this week.
The real-time sounds great and depending on the day and time I'd love to give it a shot. Afternoon-evening for you would be morning-afternoon for me so that could work if it was on a weekend.
Just FYI I've played:
#?? Master of the Fallen Fortress
#05 Mists of the Mwangi
#33 Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible
#37 Beggar's Pearl
#43 The Pallid Plague
#45 Delirium' Tangle
#47 The Darker Vengeance
GMed:
#?? Master of the Fallen Fortress
#37 Beggar's Pearl
Own & plan on GMing
#29 Shipyard Rats
#30 Cassomir's Locker
#33 Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible
#35 Voice in the Void
#39 Citadel of Flame
#41 Crypt of Fools
#43 The Pallid Plague
#45 Delirium' Tangle
#48 Rules of the Swift
Edit: #02-1 & 02-2
As you can see I don't have a lot of GMing experience but I'm hoping to run a bunch more soon. Once I get more settled in as a GM I'd be more than happy to share the duties and or run a separate PFS PBP. Most likely trying out my revised version of the Devil We Know arch.

I scanned those in without looking them over first.
One omission- in the section at the bottom for the GM it has a slot for "Event Code." The code for this event is #3,170. Be sure to write that in there as it specifies that this was a registered table.
Also- I don't have a PFS # for Fog to officially report him and I have no email for Mothman/Aldred to send out his chronicle sheet.
Remember to record the anitoxin and any other supplies you bought at the beginning of this session.
