Skull & Shackles AP

I've told GM what you suggested. He will probably do it after he is done playing his tablet game. hehehe.

Enya stops singing and looks over at the new arival. "Haha, thats the only way I get drinks, my good man. Anyway, this is Mica. She is an otter. Kind of like a water ferret, only not stinky. She giggles and holds out her hand, her smile bright and warm. I'm Enya! Whats your name? Sit down!"

"Do regular ferrets stink? I've never seen one. Or smelled one I guess. Alain. My name, that is. Alain Shadestrom. You may have heard of my father?"

I've put up a Discussion thread so we stop cluttering up this area. Makes it kind of tricky to find new prospective crew members. :-) Take the role-play in there, if you please. All are welcome.

bardic knowledge: 1d20 ⇒ 4 +2 so 6.
Oh yeah! Ferrets smell like soot and poo. Its a defence mechanism or something... as for your dad...
Enya's face goes blank for a second, then she shakes her head. Can't say that I have. Are you new here, Alain? You seem... overwhelmed. Concern crosses her face. Maybe if I sing you a song? Would you like that? Shoe bounces in her seat excitedly, waiting for Alain to reply, smiling wide.

Mica scrambles down onto the bench by Enya and jumps excitedly, too. Waving her tiny little tail around and making cute little chirps and squeeks.

I need to go through the full character creation process, yet, but I'm thinking an Undine Cleric of Besmara. I guess we'll see what I come up and how much I like it (or not).

@Galurad - double-check your stats; I think you shorted yourself a point or two.

Right you are. That's what happens when you switch character concepts within Hero Lab half a dozen times over the course of an afternoon. It felt like Duck Season! Rabbit Season!

All fixed now.

Will you allow feats like Ability focus or Quicken Spell-like Ability?

Very interested in this. Started playing it live and the GM stopped running it a few sessions in. if you're still looking i'll have a character created by tomorrow.

I have just one question. i'm still new to this site and i'm learning how to do everything. My question is how do i a create multiple characters? I have one make already but i have no idea how to create another. Thanks

Possibly. Haven't decided yet.

Shadow Lodge

Question for you Whack-a-Rogue: Are you looking more for full on creativity or would you prefer to see someone go for perhaps a little less creativity and mesh better with the 3 pre-approved characters? As it stands there is no pure melee damage type (Tetori is AMAZING and great value, but not raw damage), no firm damage soak, and no divine at all (though both casters can CLW). I have an idea for a rogue-type and a cleric...but I think the rogue-type is more creative, though both are fun and interesting. Just curious for composition sake.

I'm going to shoot for a semi-balanced party. While I'll adjust the AP a little to account for - say - no designated Healbot, I'm hoping to avoid the situation we had when I played S&S: one Barbarian, everyone else ranged or casters. We had a bad time.

Point-being: while I greatly value creativity and interesting characters, fitting missing party niches will increase your chances of being selected.

Shadow Lodge

Beautiful, I will post a cleric once I can get home from work and throw through some books really quick. Not going to do a straight healbot, but it'll be able to fall back onto it, if need be.

No-Eyes is back to Level 1!

@No-Eyes - Excellent! What do you see him becoming over the course of the campaign?

CUDDLES NOW DONE. HE THINKS. MANY SCARY TIME WHEN NUMBERS CHANGE. HE FORGET HOW TO SWING AX OR MOVE IN LEATHERS. HE LEARN GOOD MOVES FOR HUGS THOUGH! NOW HUGS BETTER THAN EVER!

Well, he'll level dip into Rogue (Pirate) or maybe Bard (Seasinger), but he'll never be superior combatant. He'll be Oracle through the rest of his career.
He doesn't like to be thought of as a spellcaster, so he'll be indirect as much as possible. He'll Cure Light someone as he puts a bottle to their lips and pretend he's pouring a potion instead of casting.
He'll Summon a giant rat quietly and make it jump on the enemy from behind. "Well ain't that lucky! Even the vermin don't like 'im!"
What with being a joke teller and singer, he's going for being thought of as the embodiment of good luck for the crew.

He's just a cook after all...

Hills here, posting up about my Cleric of Calistria.

Al is a traveling man who seeks knowledge and revenge, as such, he devotes himself to his companions when it is needed, as he knows that his revenge is still a long time coming and that without help and training, he will never be able to find it. He is incredibly perceptive, taking not of everything people do or say.

I'm gonna throw this guy out there.

Sh'torek

I'd like to submit Tidus for your consideration. He's a fisherman with some issues, but would be a lot of fun to play!

Here goes nothing! I would like to throw my hat in good Whackarogue. Selected or not do you think you can give me some input since this is my first attempt at a char? That goes for anyone else who is willing to critique my char. I welcome it. (jus so you all know. the background is a bit rough. been a long time since I did any story telling. ^_^)

If there is no-one to cast Create Water, I will have to switch my Traits around, to make it so I can. While out at sea you need plenty of fresh drinking water after all.

Oh and I have never played this game before, nor know anything about it. So don't really know how I am going from student of History to Pirate ... will be really fun to find out.

Dark Archive

In the interest of full-disclosure:

I am running this AP in real life. My group is approaching the end of the first book. That said, I am perfectly capable of separating character knowledge and player knowledge. I believe in full immersion, so I will not let foreshadowing ruin the game. Isabella comes into this blind, so to speak.

Why am I telling you this? Well, first, because I believe in being straightforward and honest. Second, because the GM may find it useful to have someone in the group who is familiar with the routines that make up much of the first book.

I just got done looking over the more recent submissions.

@Aldous Mathis – what's the trait tweak? gaining Thassalonian? if so, it's fine.

@Sh’torek – everything looks fine

@Tidus Ovelia – everything looks fine

@Tao Sheng – everything looks fine

A few people have mentioned that they have some prior experience with this AP. So do 2/3 of the existing party members, so I don't see it as a big deal. My decision's based on two things: are you a good role-player, and is your character mechanically-sound. Meet those criteria, and you've got nothing to worry about. Of course, to those of you with prior experience, metagaming will get you smote. Just sayin' ;-)

Anyway, keep up the good work. I've been enjoying following the Discussion thread conversations while doing my auditing. Two more days, so still plenty of time to jump in the ring if you're currently on the fence. :-)

Yes, indeed. I was just tweaking it to him being a delver into Ancient Thassilon instead (which should not effect this game at all, but is very in character with his backstory, obviously). Anything else that needs to be adjusted/done?

Went ahead with a Bladebound Kensai Magus for Lies, crunch is done, sheet:here

Fluff soon to come.

@Aldous - everything else looked fine. out of curiosity, where do you keep your holy symbol?

@Lies - everything looks fine. it's interesting to see a Magus who isn't going the Dervish Dance route.

Whack-a-Rogue wrote:

Well Dervish Dance would be the more effective route, but the more effective route isn't always the most fun to play. As a side note, I will likely need to adjust my skill points because I'm named lies without a single rank in bluff, doh! Not that I would be much better at lying with a rank since its not a class skill though.

Also, I'm going to ask ahead of time, how do you feel about modifying the Black Blade that the bladebound magus gets, that is if I take crafting feats how would you feel about me upgrading it?

Also note: I still neex to pick my human bonus feat.

Upgrading a Black Blade's a negative in my book. Having an unbreakable intelligent sword with magic powers is powerful enough. :-)

Oh, and adjust away in regards to skills/feats/etc. Recruitment's open until Saturday.

For free even. I can always craft a secondary weapon anyway so no worries, not switching archetypes.

Exactly. :-)

Lies wrote:

You could always get bluff as a class skill via a trait. Convincing Liar would work.

I had not done a number crunch on his money, having done so now and he being Varisian, I was going to have him tattooed under his armor, so the symbol would be on the back of his hand, tattooed.

Have you decided on allowing ability focus or quicken ability yet? They may appear in cuddles build later if you allow them. :)

I could, or her lies could just be so completely obvious that everyone calls her lies.

With a single rank and that trait, she would hit a +5 bluff, let's see what the dice think...

I do not have ranks in bluff, Bluff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Looks like a pretty believable lie, I'll be switching skills then and swapping traits.

Quicken SLA is a negative (and wouldn't apply to any Tetori abilities that I know of, anyway). My main concern regarding Ability Focus involve Hexes, so I'm still weighing the pros and cons. Are you wanting it for Stunning Fist, or what?

I think I like this trait better, it doesn't make bluff a class skill, but will eventually result in a higher bonus especially if bluff becomes a class skill from another source later, also maybe my human feat should be extra traits so I can keep armor expert and the campaign trait.

I'm a S&S fanatic, but I don't know if I should apply, since I'm in two already (both groups still on the Wormwood). But dang it's so tempting.

@Jef: Terrence and I say go right ahead!!

O.O You're in this too?! Wow! Then I must come up with something good. So many people I know. Now I just have to decide what would be an appropriate and helpful addition.

You did mention having a feat left, and there's always Cosmopolitan.

Lies wrote:

Changes have been made to skills human bonus feat is additional traits and bluff is now +8 for lying or +5 to feint or distract in combat. I now use logic to lie and to make people like me. I am not changing the flavor of anything so the four character traits will all be written into Lies' background (and don't expect her background to be true.)

Additional Traits: Student of Philosophy and Fiend Blood is what I went with, so bluff is a class skill, uses intelligence for lying and gets a +1 traits bonus best feat ever.

Results in having a combat trait, a social trait, a race trait, and a campaign trait.

Quiggong abilities, specifically quickened true strike for later in the campaign when grapples become much, much harder to achieve and maintain.

Also, I have no wis, so I think Cuddles may be wearing armor, in spite of the fact that he's a monk. We'll see if he thinks its a good idea at the time. :)

Now I just have to look and see what has been submitted and what would be fun to play. Hmm...

There are alot of fighters I have noticed. Is it bad form to submit multiple chars on the same campaign? I am new to this so I don't know what actions are considered bad form and such.

I submit Sooshura, Undine Cleric of Besmara.

If selected, I will make an alias.

I have not played S&S, and know little other than "pirate good."

Yes, I am aware there are no spells selected at this time. That's pretty easy to fix if selected. Not really relevant if not.

Background:
Sooshura was born in Quent to one of the more popular ladies of the House of Stolen Kisses. To no one's surprise, Taro has no idea who the father of her boy actually is. She certainly doesn't remember anyone as unusual as her son. The first time Sooshura was given a bath in a tub, he kept trying to get down under the surface of the water. He didn't manage it during that first bath, or even the fourth, but he eventually managed to get himself down into the water, where he just squeeled and played. Taro panicked, of course and din't realize until hours later that not only was Sooshura not really harmed, but he seemed happier.

From that point, she tried to find ways to let him play in the water. Anything as unusual as Sooshura living in or around a whorehouse becomes known far and wide. The House of Stolen Kisses started getting visits from wizards and alchemsists wanting to learn more about the young boy, as well as a few enterprising pirates. As he got older, and harde rot control, he started roaming further and further form home, looking, exploring, trying to find out what is around that next hill or past that next coral reef. He started meeting pirates at sea, them up on their ships and him in the water. He made a few friends this way, including Captain Kerra.

When he passed his tenth birthday, Captain Kerra visited the House of Stolen Kisses, but not as a customer. She came offering to take Sooshura on as a cabin boy. To teach him the ways of the sea, of pirates, and of Besmara. The effort she had put into making a friend of young Sooshura pid off for both of them, as he was very eager to take advantage of the opportunity to see more of the world and to do so with someone that he had already learned to trust.

Captian Kerra happened to be a halfling Besmarn cleric. True to her word, she taught Sooshura about sailing, the sea and Besmara. He met many people serving on her crew, some who stayed, some who died, and many who went to shore and lived off their pay until it was gone, and then hopped on board the next ship to make more. Just this morning, she told Sooshura that he had learned enough to seek a berth on another ship. Part of the reason for sending him off is to spread Besmaran clerics around the Shackles' fleet. Another major part of the reason for sending him off is so that he can learn how other captains handle their ships and crews. It was with this in mind that Sooshura found his way into the Formidably Maid . . ..

From what I have seen, most GMs don't want you to have more than one submission, but are willing to have you change your submission before selections are made.

But there is a lot of variance between GMs.

Asking the GM about his preferences is pretty much NEVER the wrong choice.

I'm thinking I'm going to submit a barbarian of the dwarf racial persuasion. Bare-chested, heavy drinking dwarf. I like the sea reaver, and even though it's not the most amazing archetype, I like how thematic it is, and I think it fits. Fun fun. Now I just gotta find a good social skill for him, cause I know social is a good thing here. :)

Or maybe I'll go with a different set of archetypes, but at least I have race and class decided.
