Welcome to the discussion thread everyone! This is where we will discuss everything that goes into our game that doesn't happen in character. It is where we will be going through the process of creating our characters, getting to know one another, and letting each other know when we won't be able to post for a long period of time if that ever happens. Its also where any and all questions can be posed to me or the group.
Let me first start off by saying welcome to all the new players. I'm glad you have chosen me as your first pathfinder DM and I hope to not disappoint. I'd like to take a little time and get to know my players so below you will find a brief bio on me and if you feel comfortable writing one feel free to do so.
I am currently running several games on these boards and my players almost always enjoy themselves. So much so that I have started to have several repeat players in my games. I've been playing Pathfinder since about 2010 but have played D&D 3.5, Shadowrun, Final Fantasy table top, Vampire the Masquaraide(one session), as well as several home brewed games in the past so all together I have about 15-20 years of gaming experience.
I also enjoy role playing video games and have been a hopeless final fantasy junky for the last 15 years. I've played both MMO versions of Final Fantasy and even met my fantastic wife while playing FFXI. I currently play FFXIV though it isn't as fun as XI was in its hay day(before level cap was raised beyond 75). I have also played dragon age origins extensively.
I also have an on again and off again relationship with Magic the Gathering and it is something my step son and I enjoy doing together though I've also got him hooked on Pathfinder lol.
Thats enough about me what about you guys?

I'm also a fan of math, but no pro. I work as a bard (jack of all ...) in an environmental NGO and besides getting into a gaming spree a few times per year, develop a reimplementation of the Infinity engine (Baldur's Gate ... Icewind dale 2). I've helped with some other (FL)OSS gaming projects, but nowhere to that extent. Non-gaming hobbies are too extensive to mention. :) PNP-wise I've only had experience through one Warhammer fantasy session, but have read a lot of the PF ruleset already.
That being said, are we playing with the simplified BBox rules or the normal ones?
Thanks for DMing!

Hello! I've been playing 3 and then 3.5 on and off since 2001-ish. Lately there has been a several year hiatus due to my wife's pregnancies and lack of substantial free time has brought me to the wonderful world of PbP!
My tabletop experience has mostly been homebrews with Mantic0re. Otherwise I've played a good amount of Elder Scrolls, and Diablo throughout the years. I work in robotics and automation, very excited for them to take over the world.
Going with BBox, for a build I'm thinking a Half-Orc Cerlic of Gorum (Glory and War domains).

Bes Kendrel |

As far as I know, half-orcs are not included in the BBox or its extension.
This will be my mage.

I started playing computer RPG when I was a teen with Morrowind and I've kept the habit ever since. Mostly single player games, though I've played on a couple of Neverwinter Nights servers and subscribed to Dungeons & Dragons Online for a while.
I discovered pen & paper RPGs later and I played in a couple of 3.5 campaigns on a French website known as AideD&D. Unfortunately, we lost our GM on two of them and I stopped playing after that. I've actually never played "face-to-face" as the gaming group at my university had a different playstyle than mine: a combination of power-gaming, rules lawyering and a total lack of actual role-play.
Other than that, I currently work in IT and spend my spare time doing tons of different things (including gaming and painting Warhammer miniatures).
I'll roll a human fighter later tonight (unless Mantic0re doesn't want to play a skill-based class). ;)

Donatian Karolsky |

Let's see what the dice give me.
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4, 5) = 16 -> 15
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 3) = 16 -> 13
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 5) = 16 -> 15
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 3) = 13 -> 12
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 2) = 14 -> 12
stats: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 5, 2) = 14 -> 12
Good thing about fighters is that they're fairly easy to build at low levels. I guess I'm done.

Looking good guys, mostly done here too. I'll fill out the spells tonight. Also thinking I might lower my strength and tank a bit encumbered.

What type of data would you like in the tag line Mathpro?

Mantic0re |

Checking in!
I am creating a Rogue and will post it shortly.
Very excited to get back into RPG. This is my first PbP experience, but I have played pen and paper RPG games for years. I may have lots of questions about this site and PbP gaming, and if I make any mistakes please let me know so I can correct them!
I used to be a dedicated gamer, but in the last two years I've added a wife and son to the mix so my free time isn't what it used to be. For that reason, my posts will primarily be late at night.
Cheers!

Looks like my rolls match my name!

Niiiice at least acrobatics and stealth will be high! Is anyone planning on being a face

Donatian Karolsky |

Looks like I've been the luckiest with my rolls. Hopefully the situation isn't going to reverse itself in combat. :p

Well, the stock fighter isn't much of a face, which is too bad as a few ranks of Diplomacy would have fit well with my character's concept. In a campaign with less restrictions, I would probably give him a trait to make that a class skill (if there is one).
In the meantime, Donatian could be a face as his background supports it and he has a +1 modifier in CHA, INT and WIS.

Looks like we'll be banking on these hot rolls+4 coming from the Cursed One ;)

I completely understand the wife part lol. I got married just under 2 years ago(April 12, 2014) and when I'm home with her she gets my full attention. Though she is a gamer to so sometimes I get my pathfinder fix through her. Just last night I ran her and my 18 year old step son through some Pathfinder.

That's awesome, I'm slowly beating down the RP walls with my wife. Hooked her on Arkham Horror, working on Zombicide, moving towards Descent next and hopefully Pathfinder soon too. I'm finding miniatures help engage her a lot.
would you rather play a less restrictive game? I wouldn't mind running you guys through the first adventure in an adventure path if you wish.
I'm up for throwing around ideas, the more open class/race options would likely be appreciated by some. To be honest, I've gotten pretty jazzed about this invulnerable metal-lusting lady-tank.
Is there an AP you're itching to run and would want to try out the first adventure in? The only one I've been involved in is Second Darkness so just about all open here.

DM Mathpro |
Well I'm currently running 4 tables of Rise of the Runelords so I'm getting a little burned out on it right now. How about Serpents Skull. More information on it can be found [url=http://pathfinder.wikia.com/wiki/Serpent's_Skull_(adventure_path)]here[/url. If that does peak everyones interst I can also run Giantslayer, Carrion Crown, or Jade Regent.
and it would allow me to open up more races/classes/feats.
If you are really liking your characters you could keep the concepts and just add more flavor to them with the full rules. Its up to what the others want to do however.

Donatian Karolsky |

@DM Mathpro: I'm up to anything, really. If it's more motivating for you to run a fully fledged adventure path, that's good with me. I don't mind playing the beginner's adventure though, as it's been a long time since I last played a game.
Out of the APs you listed, I would keep Donatian for both Carrion Crown and Giantslayer. For the others', I'd have to create a more fitting character. That's fine with me too.

![]() |

Ditto to the common sentiment. They all look fun honestly and I'd be happy playing any of them! A new character idea for Serpents Skull is enticing...my gut is saying a monk..
But indecision can be brutal so if it's up to a vote, mines for Carrion Crown as Vivian is good to go and would be great in it.

![]() |

The more I look at the Serpents Skull players guide the more I think we should go with Mathpro's initial suggestion. Are you guys going to roll attacks against me if i flipflop my vote?
Also, side question, with these changes, are we keeping our rolls or move to a point buy?

Donatian Karolsky |

@Vivian: What did you say about indecision ?
Once again, I'll back Vivian's choice. I'll need to make a new character though, as Donatian has no reason whatsoever to be on a ship this far South.
So the next question is: what are we allowed to build our character ? Content from the Humble Bundle ? Background skills from Unchained ?

![]() |

Haha I know! Alas, mortal flaws plague us all, but case closed. An easy link to the player's guide is here.
For clarity DM Mathpro, we pay heed, Donatian and I support your Serpents Skull recommendation with Bes and Mantic0re following suit.
Timeline for new character builds? Pending answers, I'll throw Friday evening out there to start it off.

![]() |

Serpent's Skull looks pretty cool.
Depending on what everyone wants to play, I would consider sticking with Apollyon and just adjusting my skills/background.

Jnor |

@Clarence: Are you keeping your cleric or creating a monk ? If you go for the former, I'll make a half-orc barbarian/bloodrager. Otherwise, we'll need a healer ; in my experience, playing without one is not fun. A elf druid or similar (I have to look up the archetypes) would do the trick.
@Apollyon & Bes Kendrel: Unless you want to change, you should keep your current characters. It's us indecisive people who should adapt to your choices. ;)
I should have my build ready tonight (Western Europe time), so starting Friday works for me. It's up to DM Mathpro though.

![]() |

I feel like it would be a cop out to create a character named Apollyon "the Cursed", then re-roll something new after my rolls are below average.
live by the dice, die by the dice.

Thats fine you can flip your vote and we can play Serpents Skull. I'm currently running two groups of carrion crown anyway so it will be nice to run something "new".
As to your other question, you can either keep your rolls or do 20 point buy which ever is higher. I will have full character creation rules up in the new discussion thread as I think I'm going to lock this one out and create a new campaign for Serpents Skull.

DM Mathpro |
As for when new characters need to be complete I need to remind you I don't post much on the weekends. I'm sorry to say it, seeing how its been almost a week for some of you to play, but I don't think I'll be able to start this until Monday. I will get the new campaign built tomorrow and might even throw up a general role play senerio for if/when your characters are finished early but the game won't really start rolling until Monday. I'll be able to post between now and 4 PM CST(GMT-6) pending not getting to busy at work.
I have family in town and tomorrow is going to be spent entirely with them and then Saturday and Sunday my wife are going to be using to recover from having her family in town. I love my mother in law but man does she stress me out when she comes to visit...

Bes Kendrel |

Eh, damage is to be expected. But it's true that if the next AOO at potion drinking time was bad enough, I'd have to wait it out. Not sure why our mage isn't more aggressive. :s

![]() |

No worries, a Monday start sounds great. I'm glad it'll be something fresh to DM for you too. I'll probably post some RP once or twice for kicks on whatever thread is open, here or there.
Party roles are all messed up, Bes and Jnor, the name reminds me of Dune and Dragoniders of Pern by the way :), seem to be on the fence so I'm going to go with a treasure hunting Monk and let things shake out as they will. Wisdom will be high so I should be able to stabilize people at the least. I can look into traits (assuming we do 2) and profession stuff to help support healing more if necessary.
