Presuming Ravan either fails or just passes on the rolls, let's continue:
On the morning of the third day after the fight with the icy beings, you see a ship some distance off, and it appeared to be closing.
Captain Kargeld spoke up, "She's seen us, sure as damnation. And there's no way the Frosthammer'll outrun it loaded down as we are. One look at what we're haulin, and they'll arrest us for weapon smuggling."
The ship is about ten minutes away. So you have time to get your stories straight. Also, just a reminder, you still have those iron circlets that can disguise you.
As the captain alerts everyone to the nearby ship, Ruedo recalls Caliban and assumes his disguise as an average-looking human with brown hair and brown eyes. "Remember, we're going to Aldencross. Just pretend that we've never met. Easier to keep our stories straight if we don't involve each other."
She kind of shrugs, "Okay...but isn't this kind of thing Ravan's territory? She's really good at talking people into believing whatever she wants them to. Why couldn't we just do that and make them believe that what they see...isn't actually what's on the ship?"
Nodding Ravanalonna thinks for a moment before touching her amulet, her appearance shifting appearing as a statuesque aristocratic blonde, dressed as a lower echelon Talinguarde noble, the necklace amulet itself appearing as a necklace bearing a holy symbol of Mitra. Not the type that would be worn by clergy but that of someone with money paying lipservice.
Oh, they're circlets, not amulets. Moot point, but just for future reference.
The ship approaches quickly. When within shouting distance, the Captain calls out, "Heave to in the name of the king!"
Kargeld and his men comply and wait for the other ship to pull along side.
The Captain of the other ship, along with four men with spears, boards the Frosthamar. Looking around, he says, "I am Captain Sambryl of The Blade of St. Martius. Whom may I ask is in charge here?"
"That would be me Captain, Lady Arenfeld. Ours is a minor house but a trading one. A pleasure to meet you Captain. I believe I've heard your name in passing among the other merchants. All good of course." she says with a smile.
Well...a 1 isn't necessarily an automatic failure....we could get lucky and he might roll a 1 on his sense motive, unless he's too distracted by your beauty to even question you. Why don't you shake his hand? You know what I mean...nudge nudge wink wink.
Keeping her head down as well, the hood of her cloak hides her face fairly well. She knew better than to call attention to herself right now. Saying the wrong thing could cost them a lot more than a shipment of goods if they weren't extraordinarily careful right now. She takes a slow deep breath and keeps herself calm while trying not to laugh at Ravan's attempt to fool this Captain fellow. With her head down she bites down hard on her lip to keep the giggle she could feel coming up stifled. She kept silent and let those with more experience handle the situation. She was just a Dwarf that had taken a ride to some place for a bit of a vacation anyways. What business of it was hers? She laughs silently to herself at her own internal joke of her disguise. She waits to see what will come of this before doing or saying anything. She would only speak if spoken to.
The Talingarde Captain looked at the Frosthamar captain and crew before replying, "What pray-tell are you trading Milady? And why are you with this crew?" His tone indicated that he was not entirely convinced.
"Fruit of the vine in large part. Fine wines to catch fine prices and tools of superior make. Those on the outer edges of the realm may produce the finest fabrics, but good sturdy tools to enable an honest day's work could never be better than those found in the heart of the Kingdom." she responds with a smile, looking up at the Captian as she takes a single step closer. "If you would like it would be an honor to escort you below and show you what fine vintages we carry. Perhaps you would care to try some, certainly a bottle can be spared for a man of your stature." she continues resting a hand on his arm.
Captain Sambryl looked the Noble Woman over, then scanned the rest of the ship. His demeanor relaxed, almost imperceptibly so, before he said, "That won't be necessary Milady. Carry on as you wish, but be careful. The seas north of here can get rather treacherous at times." With a final glance at the barbaric Captain, the Talingarde Officer and his escort departed and sailed away.
Once the other ship was out of sight, Kargeld said, "I don't know how you did it, but fine work." While what he said was grateful, something in his tone didn't seem to be. Turning back to his crew, he barked several orders in Northspeak, and soon you are underway once more.
Feeling a little agitated by the Captain's attitude, she waits until the other ship is completely out of sight before touching her thingy and turning back into her normal petite human girl guise. Going over to the Captain she taps him on the back to get his attention as she looks up at him rather curiously, "Did it hurt?" She asks him sincerely.
Putting her hands on her hips she looks up at him with a slight scowl on her face, "You know....when whoever it was shoved that enormous stick up your ass. Did it hurt? It must have because despite the fact that my friend just totally saved all our asses, and we've saved you and your lot a couple of times....you've been a real prick and I want to know why."
The weapon cargo is stacked in crates on the deck. But none of the weapons are visible, so that's why a cursory glance didn't reveal much.
Taking an intimidating posture, Kargeld faced Eri, "Look little girl, the only reason you're on this ship is because I'm getting paid extra to do so, and a huge bonus afterwards when I go back to that sorry sack Thorn. You don't like it? Well tough sh!t, deal with it."
She just laughs in his face before turning to walk away. Shaking her head she says as she walks away while giving him a rude gesture with her finger, "It's cute how stupid you are. I'm gonna really enjoy this trip."
She continues to laugh as she joins Ruedo at the railing. A bit away from the others she says quietly, "I'm really gonna enjoy seeing the look on his face when I kill him later. Sooo....when can I kill him? It was a long list of instructions and I don't really remember all of them...."
