spells used all 1 and 4 one 5
I dispute that. Are you counting Dispel Evil as the one 5? Because that was cast the previous night before rememorizing. So Dr. Fate should have the ability to cast two Teleport spells now to teleport two people, and I'm even willing to fudge that and say he can teleport three at the expense of both level 5 slots.
So all we're really delaying for at this point is to find out if Sandman wants to tag along...

No I was counting the teleport I cast in that post. This was changed to using both 5's to bring the Flash and perhaps the Sandman along. Actually the Sandman might be a better choice to bring. Flash can talk to the prisioners without having to sneak into jail and the Sandman's detective skills will help uncover any hoax or trap in Salem.

Too late about swapping Flash for Sandman. Don't worry about Sandman too much, though. With his connections to the D.A., he can probably learn as much as Wesley Dodds as Jay Garrick can learn as Flash.
(ignoring the fact that a 7th level speedster has a crusing speed a whopping 19 MPH.)
There are a lot of numbers I would tweak if H&H ever gets a second edition, but I'm not sure if this is one of them. The slowly advancing cruising speed was meant to emulate the monk class, but moreso, I just like thinking that the speedsters don't run around super-fast all the time, but just pour on the speed when they need it for a trick.
In your next posts, can I get some intentions for how Dr. Fate plans to look for trouble in Salem? Random patrolling?

I want to try again to have another H&H chat night on Thursday, June 21st, at 7 pm central time. You'll need to be a member of the H&H Fan Club Yahoo!Group to use its chat feature. We can discuss the ongoing campaigns, the next issue of The Trophy Case (it's big!), progress on Supplement IV, and anything else your hearts desire!

Was planning on waiting until after the Flash left to change but oh well.:7)
Okay, we can retcon that, if you wanted to protect your secret ID/remain mysterious. Flash was escorted out first and then Dr. Fate went back in and changed.
So Kent Nelson seems to be upperish middle class? Would he know the type of people the Magico might target?
He would know of the specific people Magic might target and could spend the rest of today talking to them...
Dr. Fate's SCM reaction rolls: 3d20 ⇒ (5, 11, 5) = 21

I would accept that the Tower would likely have a library, for arcane lore, but for local newspapers from recent months...?
Initiative: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Driver's to hit roll: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Flash's damage taken: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Flash's save vs. science: 1d20 ⇒ 3 minus the previous roll
Chance of crash: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Well Fate's legend and kent is rather thin. How does he pay for things/get mail/make phone calls et al. I need to get a renfield.
Scottenkainen |
All good questions that we could work on during this lull, if you like.
Though Kent doesn't seem to work a job now, that doesn't mean he hasn't in the past. He could have worked for a 100 years on different jobs with different aliases, and is just living off his savings and interest now.
Inza is like a hot, sane Renfield. Though feel free to recruit more Supporting Cast Members...

When do I become a MU10/Villan1?
You actually could do it, but you would start out at -322,190 xp in your second class.
To hit Flash rolls: 10d20 ⇒ (7, 8, 3, 4, 20, 19, 11, 5, 19, 8) = 104
Flash's damage taken: 3d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 3) = 10
Morale checks: 2d20 ⇒ (19, 2) = 21

I am beginning to see why all the mystery men seemed to have a driver or taximan as one of their minions. The Fate of the comics didn't need one because he did not use vanican magic
And I think that's exactly how we'll get around it; every time we don't need to know how Dr. Fate does something, we can assume it was by magic.
That said, I know Supplement IV is going to include some "discussion" of how to tweak the magic system...

Doctor Fate |
Well you really don't want to get away from Vancian style or you lose the retro-flavor and besides if you change it for the MU's you will also need to change it for the Super Heroes which leaves you rewriting half the book.
As far as letting Fate handwave things like this....I'm not so sure...It smacks of power creep. For example take Fate's use of teleport to get to NY earlier. Handwaving that trip would have allowed Fate annother 5th level spell in the balrog fight. Having a second Dispell Evil would have made a difference I think.
3.5 and Pathfinder get around this by adding spells like "overland flight" where the hour/level duration makes it possable to cast and then use in several encounters and still have juice to actually travel. Problem is H&H is emulating the early days so random and arbratary limits of powers/spells part of the genra. Those early writers had not entirely made the mental shift away from the wargame roots and I am not sure that is a bad thing.
In short I oppose the handwaving. Fate is already breaking the rules by not having to memorize and having a spellbook that consists of yes.
Fate will take a taxi as Kent to within walking distance of the estate. Find a secluded corner, cast invisibility, and then change into his costume.
Scottenkainen |
How interesting that you're being more strict on yourself than I am! I'll allow you to oppose your own handwaving, but I disagree that it's necessary in this instance. Getting from MA to NY on a timetable was a challenge to overcome and challenges should require you to use up resources. Getting from one side of Salem to the other in two hours is not a challenge, so Fate should be able to get there via flavor text, which can be as creative as you want.

P.S. Which room? 1d20 ⇒ 12
the Flash |
Hmmmm, where is Flash going to spend the night? Does he have any way of getting more money or know anyone else in town? If not, he'll have to try to find a free shelter somewhere at a church or something... at least it'll fit in with the persona he's creating at the gym.
Also, I’ll be away from my computer again for a couple of weeks, July 27 - Aug 7.
Flash will continue to lie low and gather what info he can from these guys.

Dr. Fate finished casting his Protection from Evil II spell, but the other warlock also finished his Suggestion spell. "Wait, Atom!" the warlock said. "I am the real Dr. Fate! Our enemy has made us switch forms! You must defeat him! Strike him with your fists!"
Just wanted to clarify that Dr. Fate is still invisible. The warlocks know he's there, though, and may be assuming that the Atom can see Dr. Fate even though they can't.

I know our would-be Magno and Johnny Thunder didn't work out before, but I've got another heads up for everyone. Someone new has approached me about playing Ma Hunkel, the original Red Tornado. If she follows through on signing up here, I'm going to pair her with Sandman.
