GM Bugman |
Welcome all!
I'm extremely excited for this. Some of you mentioned tying in backgrounds and I'm all for that. Please feel free to hash things out in here and to dot/delete in the game thread. I'm also going to put together a NPC list of people you have all created in your backgrounds and build our personal Kintargo from that. I've found in other games that it really helped the immersion and relationships.
As this is an odd party makeup, I'm going to allow some fine-tuning to be done as the party levels from 1 to 2. Not as widespread as PFS, but abilities, feats, skills, and traits. I see this as a way to let the party to figure out how it functions and to make whatever minor adjustments people feel are necessary.
Agnes Briar |
Thank you for having me! I am really excited for this campaign.
I am indeed open to making some ties. Agnes runs a stable for exotic creatures by day, so that might be an easy way we could be acquainted.
Adun Wulle |
Sounds like a great plan GM, if you need more from my backstory then let me know.
I need a friend to tag along with to the protest. Adun's currently living a somewhat itinerant existence as a day labourer on building sites in Redroof so he may well have come across an appropriate PC during his recent change in circumstances, or know someone from his former life before the church of Asmodeus came for his family.
GM Bugman |
Awesome, will do. I think I'll make a map with everyone's points of interest marked as well.
Google sheets and docs will be linked at the top if the thread, while the slides for battle maps will be in my tagline.
Agnes Briar |
Maybe Agnes knows Adun a bit? I had the idea that she might have a secret cellar in her stable (not big, mostly big enough to house a desk and a few shelves), and that Adun might have been involved in building it.
It would not have been a recent project. Agnes has been in Kinthargo for a while now, doing her secret work for many years. But maybe with all the mayhem going on, she'd need to have some work done to keep it better hidden?
She'd pay Adun for the work, and he'd be free to sleep in an empty stable.
Adun Wulle |
That would make sense. Adun's been working for his father's building company for some years so he may well have been part of the secret room's construction, or learned about how his father built it as part of his apprenticeship.
At this point he'd appreciate the pay and the place to sleep.
GM Bugman |
The two links are up and you all should be able to edit. The "NPCs - Loot - Quest Notes" spreadsheet is for the party to use as it sees fit. Make whatever changes to that that you all desire!
The maps are pretty self explanatory. If the large image on the first slide gives people issues I can remove it, my phone can sometimes lag because of those. I placed Briar's Exotic Stable (placeholder name if you have something else in mind) down by the Rust Gate on the border of Old Kintargo and Redroof districts.
Brianna Reed |
Greetings all! Not sure who is also from north of the river. Brianna is far from the best craftsperson in the city. Likely only those from the area would possible know her.
I'm curious if we are using standard or alternative crafting rules?
GM Bugman |
Alright, added locations for the Old Wulle Masonry and Copperplate Fine Jewelers as well. Using those as placeholder names but offer up whatever you'd like.
Adun Wulle |
Wulle Building and Masonry was the name I used in my background. Looks like a good location though.
Agnes Briar |
As for background ideas, how does this sound GM Bugman:
When Agnes bought her stable a few years back, it had a very small cellar. Being so close to both the sea and the river, Kinthargo isnt well suited for underground storage, unless you pay heavily to have it waterproofed.
Agnes used the little cellar to hide items and communications for the Bellflower network. She also gathered some research into varios rebel groups, a bit of a hobby that got out of hand.
Now with the Night of Ashes, a lot of her contacts disappeared. Needing more security, Agnes hired Adun to help hide her cellar better. With the martial law already affecting her buisness, all she could offer him in payment were three meals a day, and a warm place to sleep.
With her contacts not resurfacing, Agnes is concerned. She reached out, and got in contact trough a friend of a friend of a friend. They told her to be at the Aria Park protest.
Agnes doesnt know who this contact is or even his name, only that he’s a human man, and that she’ll know him because he’ll be wearing one black leather glove on his right hand and no glove at all on the left.
Its all very suspicious to Agnes, but she feels she has no choice. She is however very happy she convinced Adun to tag along. A strong man might just be the back up she needs.
Darius Motalis |
@Adun
Darius is based in Redroof, he runs a small shop in Redroof Market. As a vigilante, he mostly keeps to Redroof as well, so there's a chance we've crossed paths.
@Brianna
Darius would go north when visiting the Victocora estate and a few years ago during his formal training. If the Victocora had any interests in metalwork, he'd likely sell it in his shop and visit the forges to pick up new wares.
@GM Bugman
I intentionally left the people I was tied to in the Victocora family vague to not force too much on the setting. If you want to discuss some more to clarify those ties, I'd like to work on that as well.
@everyone
If anyone has significant dealings in Redroof in the past few months, I had Darius take Renown so you've probably heard at least some rumors about The Fiend of Redroof.
When I get back home, I'll do a little more digging through your profiles for more possible threads.
Excited to be in this game with all of you!
Reynard Freeman |
Hey guys, sorry I'm late. Reynard is also a tiefling living in Redroof. He's reasonably well educated (well, by Devil's Nursery standards) and gets by as a tutor, loaning out books from the small library he maintains in a spare room of his home, and any other way he can get paid for knowing things. It could be some of you borrowed a book from him, or consulted him on some esoteric topic. He doesn't have Renown, but is a Well-Known Expert in the Devil's Nursery. It could also be that you encountered a horrifying mutated tiefling one night in Redroof, who was surprisingly docile towards you, or perhaps saved you from attack by the Chelish Citizen's Group or Dottari. One of the cool things about the Mutated Defender archetype is that you're a mutant, but can suppress those mutations in you Social identity, and only look weird in your Vigilante identity.
Brianna Reed |
@GMBugman: Sark, the half-orc weaponsmith from Brianna's Reason to Protest is a seed I'm planting for her L3 Social Talent, Loyal Aid. He is a half-orc expert that crafts weapons and armor
---
I'm having trouble finding ties to anyone in the group, with one exception. Brianna has only lived in Kintargo for a little over a year. Most folks are from south of the river, and Brianna is far from a talented smith. I doubt she would come to the notice of nobility (like Darius' associates), or craftsmen in only slightly similar work (Carl Copperplate).
I didn't see anyone with very exotic weapons or armor, except for Agnes. A small lance and a lamellar curiass are probably not lying around most shops in Kintargo, and are the sort of orders she could take. If anyone else ever made there way to the War Cage to order something simple but custom, could have been directed to Brianna or her friend Sark.
Carl Conrad Copperplate |
I can easily see Carl having borrowed books from Reynard, and discussing their contents with him, impressed by how much the tiefling seems to know on the subjects. Would he by chance know anything about secret arcane societies in Kintargo? Just out of curiosity of course. The history of the city is a marvel, isn't it. Especially the House of Truth and Clarity, ever been inside? Or how about the temple belfry?
Darius Motalis |
@Reynard
I feel like we would certainly know each other. Partly as just vigilantes working in the same area, and in our social identities. Darius doesn't spend a ton of time in the nursery anymore, as he hides his heritage. But as two slum kids interested in education and close in age, we've probably met at least a bit from a while back.
He'd also certainly have donated some extra books to your library.
Our stories line up incredibly well for us to know each other.
Reynard Freeman |
Carl- He'd likely have been to the House of Truth & Clarity a time or two. Definitely not the temple though, after a youth forced to worship the Archfiend, he'd go no nearer the Asmodean temple than absolutely necessary. As for secret arcane societies well, they're secret, now aren't they? He might know of the existence of such societies, but little in the way of specifics.
Darius- It certainly does sound like they'd be acquainted. For the small neighborhood it is, Redroof is positively lousy with secret heroes, isn't it? lol
Adun Wulle |
Agnes - More than happy to have Adun tag along with you. He's unlikely to believe in the protest as a useful catalyst for change, but knowing how halflings can be treated even in slightly more cosmopolitan Kintargo he's willing to escort Agnes.
Darius - It would seem likely that Adun has heard of The Fiend of Redroof, and may well have had dealings with Darius in his role as a notary, probably while working for his father's (now the church's) business.
GM - I haven't really set out a secret identity yet, certainly not as much as the other PCs have. As I said in my initial pitch, Adun has only recently started working covertly against the rising tide of Asmodean thuggery and has mainly done so in darkness and silence, disguising himself with his hooded cloak. I see him as akin to Matt Murdoch in the early part of season 1 of Daredevil - he's got a crime-fighting persona and look, but it's not developed or formalised yet. Is that going to be OK? Can I develop Adun's secret identity as we play?
Agnes Briar |
Adun: Would you be interested in Agnes telling you she's looking for someone so you can help keeping an eye out?
Reynard: It might be that Agnes and Reynard might be loosely acquainted, in social identities at least. She might have come to borrow a book or two from you. She also has Well Known Expert. So it might be a loose work relationship.
Brianna: It could be that Agnes brought you some work before Martial law was established. With an exotic stable, there is also a lot of exotic tack to be kept in order. It would mean they are at least acquainted, and have a loose work relationship.
Adun Wulle |
Adun: Would you be interested in Agnes telling you she's looking for someone so you can help keeping an eye out?
Depends on how comfortable you think she is talking about what's going on. I'm happy to go along with that if you think it fits their relationship.

Meeting a 'buisness contact' it is ;)

Sounds like a plan to me.
Agnes Briar |
This calls for a 'meeting a man about a horse' joke.
GM Bugman |
@Agnes That background works for me, it ties in your campaign trait perfectly.
@Darius I'll do some digging today and can get back to you on the Victocoras. I'm thinking the easiest thing is to create a member who died the Night of Ashes, but will make sure.
@Brianna Very nice, I'll make a location for the War Cage Smithy as well.
@Adun Not a problem at all, a bit of development at the beginning is fine. I'd think by the time book 1 is over he should have an identity figured out though.
Brianna Reed |
So I imagine that Brianna had to fit Laika for his barding, she'd probably know her scent. Would he recognize her with his scent ability?
Now I'm curious how scent interacts with vigilante identities...
GM Bugman |
Apologies, I'm here. Today is my last day of traveling and I will be able to poat normally again tomorrow.
Adun Wulle |
Just a heads up that I'm off on holiday at the beginning of next week. I'll normally be posting from GMT, but the wife and I are flying to Mexico on Monday so it may set some of my posting back a little. We're only there for just over a week so things will return to normal after that.

Brianna Reed |
Agnes Briar |
Its probably the new forum. Links arent showing properly from time to time.
Brianna Reed |
We can give them a break I guess...
BTW, this will probably be a recurring theme with me
Agnes Briar |
This weekend is my first con as a Venture-Captain! I am nervous!
There probably wont be any posts from me from friday to sunday. Possible also not thursday/monday depending on the last minute rush/con crud.
NPC me as nececairy. I dont mind Adun 'taking me along' in his posts.
Brianna Reed |
ok, I got that way wrong. Brianna has 1gp to kick in.
I can use CLW scrolls, and their cost is 12.5gp, that might be the best bet
Blue Thorn |
Sorry to butt into the prepared caster business, but any excuse to share this labor of my love: Spellbooks (link)
Agnes Briar |
i'll be LARPing the whole weekend. I'll leave early on friday, and come back late on sunday. I dont expect any activity untill monday. Feel free to bot me.
GM Bugman |
Cool cool, have fun! Any bot instructions?
Speaking of which, that might be a good thing to add to everyone's profiles in the long run.
Agnes Briar |
Nah, not really. My skills are easily accessible I think. Agnes is not scared of going into melee. I'll see about making a ' bot me box' in my profile.
Darius Motalis |
Since we stalled out, I figured I'd check in here and see what's up.
Is Agnes waiting to see if the rest of us have food? Sadly it's an urban game, and it seems after looking over our sheets, only Agnes and Reynard have rations.
Just want to see what's blocking us and keep us moving.
Agnes Briar |
Yeah, I'm giving the others the chance to do something. Maybe other people have food, or want to withdraw a bit. I hadnt checked if others have handle animals, for maybe an aid.
