Female Human Cleric/1

Florr is keeping very busy.

Before the party leaves for Blasingdell, she takes the box of herbs from the cart. She immediately makes for the Herbalist, taking Storm Surge and provisions (enough for a week).

Upon her return to town:

She practices shooting her Great bow every morning in the yard, getting to know the other adventures in the Guild.

She takes riding lessons on Storm Surge daily for an hour with Constance, then practices every afternoon shooting from horseback on her own.

She has a room at the inn and eats dinner there each night and listens to the "goings on" in the area.

A sheepish woman that looks like she's been crying is standing by the fence during one of your riding lessons. As you approach her she speaks softly.

"You're one of the adventurers that went to the Rubrum Grima?...My son was there. He was supposed to come back for the festival. Did you see him there? I'm worried about him."

Female Human Cleric/1

Florr rides over and dismounts. "Hello there, what is your name?" she says "And what is your son's name?"

Florr wrote:

"His name is Robin. He was apprenticing there for the growing season...he was about 13. No beard yet. Dark Blue eyes, curly hair. About this tall. He should have come home for the festival. Did you see him there? "

She motions slightly above her own height.

Mountain Dwarf Volamtar of Marthammor(AC 16)

Gritnarr leaves Haven's cross on foot the morning after the battle with the Moon Clan.

Female Human Cleric/1

"I did see him there. In a way. I mean, he was there but..."

Florr sighs. She wishes that someone else with a bit more tact was there to help her explain to this lady how her son was trapped and died.

"Will you come with me to see Old Bill? He and I can explain to you what happened to your son." She gives her reins to Constance and smiles the best she can at the lady.

"Please, just tell me. He's died hasn't he? I knew..." she looks at her feet crying. "Was it an accident? Don't make me suffer, please."

Female Human Cleric/1

Florr reaches out and puts a comforting hand on the woman's back. "Your son has gone on to a better place. His death was a tragic accident. My companions and I gave him a proper burial at the estate. We would be happy to escort you to pay your respects, and help you move him home if you'd like." She shows the woman her amulet. "This is my promise from Valkur that he is watching over every person, giving us strength and courage." She closes her eyes and touches her amulet. "Valkur will give you strength and courage to get through this. Let me take you for a drink at the Inn."

She nods her head slowly while looking at her feet. "I hope he liked it there. He wasn't very happy here.
We didn't here from him in months. It's been very hard on us. We don't really have the means to travel. The roads are so dangerous..." She looks up at you. "Thank you. There's nothing that can be done now. He was my last child. My eldest died trying to find work as a fur trapper. Not sure what my husband and I will do for ourselves. Lead a quiet life I suppose. A drink? No no, thank you you've been very kind. We should start bundling in for the winter. Supposed to be a hard one."

She struggles to make eye contact with you as she speaks. "Valkur, that's nice dear. Thank you." She walks off with a slight limp and no sense of urgency in her steps.

Female Human Cleric/1

Florr closes her eyes and thinks a short prayer to Valkur to watch over this family. She is sorrowful to hear that both of her children are now gone.

She takes the reins back from Constance, thanking her, and takes Storm Surge out for a gallop to clear her mind.

Barakor of Gorm Gulthyn (AC 22 (23vsRanged))

Rurik Spends much of the days after the battle speaking with Captain Wyrmshadow and the guards discussing strategic elements of the battle and use of tactics and reflecting on their merits.

Many Guild members are off on jobs already and the town is quiet a little over a week after the Hunt and Harvest battle he calls Florr Aengus and Grombar together.

"I've heard that a number of messages have arrived over the last few days from many communities outside of Haven's Cross. It would seem that a number of people who came here from the festival have not returned home when expected to. Old Bill is gone on an extended errand of his own it seems and Lord Haven doesn't think it's cause for much concern at this point but...It's curious. You'd imagine if there were a problem on their trip...look here." he unfurls a map and points for emphasis. "We have messages from three separate communities. Paradiso, Voski, The Towers of Doriast and Blasingdell. Some of these were wealthy merchants with decent hired protection. The chances that all of them, each traveling different routes all having something happen to them despite the measures they took to stay safe? They made it here without a problem...It doesn't sit well with me. In my guts." He pounds the belly of his armor with the bottom of his fist.

Female Human Cleric/1

Florr looks at the map and sees that each of the cities that Rurik points out are in different directions from each other. "This is very strange. If there were raiding parties waiting on the road, they would have had to be both north and south of Haven's Cross."

She motions to the road, leading both northwards and southwards away from the city. "We should go check out the road. Pick a direction and see what we can find!"

She takes a minute, then thinks outloud. "I wonder if Yarral the sea dwarf has made it to Paradiso? He mentioned to me that he was heading that way after the festival. I can send a message to him and see if he knows anything. Maybe he saw something on the road to Paradiso. If he actually got there..." She trails off.

Florr notices a trail of dust on the road into town steadily getting larger. Within moments she sees that it is being created by a horse drawn wagon. The horse is in an all out gallop and the cart is bouncing up and down with the shifts and turns of the road.

She begins to hear a voice in distress and sees a halfling with his hands bound behind his back. He is trying to gain control of the horses with the reins wrapped around his foot.

"HEEEEELLLLP! THIS HORSE DOESN'T LIKE ME!"

Whoops, forgot about this.

Though you don't need to cross through the bog to reach the Herbalist's hut, it's surrounded on most sides by a thick, bubbling, stench puddle. Bugs the size of house cats swirls and crawl around everywhere. Stormsurge doesn't like his hooves squishing in the soft mud that borders the bog.

You see a old, tall lanky man stirring a cooking pot. There are various braziers of pungent and fragrant herbs and incenses burning that choke your lungs but smell far better than the bogmud.

"Ho' der girl. Whaddawannabedoin' roun' deez paahts. Wheraya get deese herbs?"

"HEEEEELLLLP! THIS HORSE DOESN'T LIKE ME!"

Florr steers Storm Surge closer to the wagon. "Hang on!" she calls. She guides Storm Surge to gallop at the same pace as the horse pulling the cart.

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Storm Surge lines up his head with the horse. Florr puts her reins in one hand and reaches for the reins wrapped around the halfling's foot.

Dex check to grab the reins fast: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

She completely misses. She tries again.

Dex check to grab again: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

She gets one of the two and pulls hard. She also yells, "Wooooaaah!"

Handle Animal to stop: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Advantage for audible shout of WOAH! Handle Animal to stop: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Florr remembered the precise way that Constance had been able to calm a horse running wild at her stables. If she could match it's speed and gain a hold of the reins then she could slowly coax it into slowing down.

The fast gallop made it difficult to get hold of the reins but on the second attempt the halfling lifted his legs in an attempt to guide them to Florr's hand. She grabbed them on the second attempt and the wild horse decreased in speed from a gallup to a canter, then a trot, finally it was walking and could be convinced to stop.

Florr notices a small bleeding wound in the horse's backside.

When the wagon is stopped the halfling quickly gets out of the wagon. His messy brown hair and bound hands seem to contradict his fairly formal attire.

Once on the ground he jumps in the air tucking his knees into his chest as he slips his tied hands under his feet so they are now in front of him and takes a long look at the ropes.

Still looking at the ropes, the halfling releases a barrage of questions in rapid fire fashion,

"By the Gods that was amazing! How do you talk to horses like that? Most of them don't even notice me! This knot looks pretty tough? Are you good with knots? Can you help me untie it? My name is Nikolai!"

Female Human Cleric/1

Florr dismounts and hurries over to him. "Nikolai, calm down!" Florr says. "Let me get this rope off. Yes I'm good with knots, I grew up a sailor."

Dex check on rope: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

"We need to take care of your horse, he is cut. What in the world happened?" She starts to take off the harness from the horse.

Florr easily unties the ropes around Nikolai's hands.

Medicine or Investigation checks can be made by anyone in the area

Nikolai puts on a goofy smile once his hands are free as he rubs his wrists.

"Thanks so much! Those were really tight."

He climbs into the back of the wagon and starts searching through some crates still talking the entire time,

"What's your name? I was heading to a wedding but, well, plans change. Hey look! Wine! Do you want some? It's the least I can do since you saved my life and all."

He opens a few more crates,

"Ah, there's my stuff!"

He found a small backpack in one of the crates. He opens it and begins to put a few bottles of the wine inside. You aren't quite sure how he is managing to fit so many inside of it. When he puts it on it doesn't seem to be overly full.

Barakor of Gorm Gulthyn (AC 22 (23vsRanged))

Rurik gives Nikoali a bit of a stink eye and looks him up and down.

"You alright? What was all that about?"

He leans an slightly hesitant hand out to the horse and makes a nervous shushing sound. Rurik clearly is not comfortable with horses.

Lay on Hands for 2 points of healing

Mountain Dwarf Friar of Hanseath (AC 17)

"HAHA! What a riot. You're a brave soul little guy!"

Aengus reaches out a large hand to the horses reigns and leads him towards the stables, he's got a turkey leg in his other hand that he was eating in the Drunken Horse when he came out to see what the commotion was. He keeps eating it as he walks back towards town.

Quote:
Lay on Hands for 2 points of healing

Rurik sees that although the horse is bleeding quite a bit the original wound is rather small. Something pierced its skin but didn't do enough damage to hinder the horse's movements. It was probably the cause of spooking it though. The wound is completely healed after his spell.

Quote:
Aengus reaches out a large hand to the horses reins and leads him towards the stables

"Yes, thank you, I could use the help getting this cart out of the road. I can explain everything once we get into town."

He glances back in the direction he came from but then turns to head into town. He glances down at his clothes.

"Oh, this won't do"

He says something in halfling and his fancy clothes turn into a more casual commoner shirt and trousers.

As you walk into town you notice that Nikolai is moving slowly, like he is trying to hide a limp.

"This is Haven's Cross right? I'm looking for a friend who has been staying here."

"Yes, this is Haven's Cross." he looks at your poorly hidden limp. "Are you alright? Quite a trick with your clothes there.." the last bit sounds almost accusatory.

Mountain Dwarf Friar of Hanseath (AC 17)

With a mouth full of turkey and without turning around, Aengus says "Who's your friend?"

Quote:
"Who's your friend?"

"His name is Oleksandr. I came with him from Solnevo a few months ago looking for Mr. Karl. Do you know him? Takes reading way too seriously?"

Quote:

A sorrowful expression crosses Nikolai's face,

"I had to do it. I didn't want to hurt the horse, but I was being transported against my will. I don't want to get married and neither does she! Besides, I've spent too much time away and need to help my friend Olek. But that Mr. Greenhill, he insisted I marry his daughter. He wanted to make me work on his farm! A farm? I'm an adventurer!

"He tied me up. When we got to the Valley Road I managed to wriggle around enough to get a caltrop out my pocket. I pressed my boot down onto it and then kicked the horse. The horse panicked and Mr. Greenhill fell off. He's going to be really mad."

Female Human Cleric/1

Florr rides next to the wagon as they make their way to town. "What a crazy story!" she cries, laughing. "And you also took this wagon. No wonder it's full of wine. U had better send some back to console your ex future father in law!" She shakes her head. "Rurik I'm glad you could heal the house. That was a bit of a dramatic and harmful way of getting a horse to gallop. And we know Oleksandr! He's off in the south at the moment, solving an orc problem."

"I'm going to send back the cart and the horse and ...most... of the wine. He may be a fat jerk but his heart is in the right place, at least that's what Maisy says, and I ...don't like to... steal from people with good hearts. I just need a few days to find the right person to hire. I don't really want him to know where I am."

Female Human Cleric/1

"A whole bunch of adventurers left a day after the Hunt and Harvest Festival," Florr tells him. "Not sure when they'll be back. He was headed south to Blasingdell with a message about orc raids. I know that he was talking with Old Bill the wizard about Karl. You should go visit him! Also, that was a pretty fancy trick you did with your clothes!"

"Hello, my name is Florr Hemera. All I know about you is that you are an herbalist. Tell me a bit about yourself!"

She'll continue. "I was on an adventure up to Rubrim Grima and found these herbs that Lady Adoni had collected. Have you ever heard of her? The manor isn't too far from here. She wrote labels and descriptions for everything. There are some bugs and flowers in here." She looks up. "Speaking of bugs, what kind are these huge bugs? I've never seen bugs this big before!"

She shows him the drawer:
Drawer of preserved and labeled insects, bugs and flowers. You knowledge of medicines and survival (and the labels looking up the names in the survival guide you bought from town.), you discern

Gripweed: This weed is commonly found in graves and where the dead have fallen. While living it is a mass that swirls and wraps around itself. If it gets a hold of you it tries to pull you into its mass to digest you. If someone is lucky enough to reap this it can be made into a common poison that cuts off the victims airway

Cinderpetals: These bright red and orange flowers can be found all around the world that grow all alone. If ground up finely and left in a vial or bottle they will coagulate the water into a thick goo and make the color into a vibrant swirl of red and orange. These are commonly used to make alchemist's fire.

Addison's Blood: When the world was created Pelor had created a human so beautiful even HE could not resist her beauty. He among many other gods fell in love with her and brought her up into their realm. The gods began to fight over this mortal woman and while she was ascending to the heavens Vecna took it upon himself to destroy her. With a quick snap of his fingers she burst into a thousand pieces as her blood and entrails rained down on the land below. Her blood was absorbed into the earth and bright red mushrooms would grow. These mushrooms are commonly used to make healing potions along with other herbs.

Smuggler's Root: This illegal herb has been outlawed (hence the name). It was giving people strange abilities for limited amounts of time. This substance was used shortly for military use until they realized how addictive this stuff was. It was causing fights to erupt from within the military. It is said that ingesting one of these roots can give you wizard like powers. The trick is they are VERY hard to find.

Bog Myrtle: Round green leaves, and with flowering cones that look like berries on them. Used to flavor beer sometimes, but can be crushed, burned, and inhaled to cause psychotropic effects, and to be used as a painkiller. Afterwards, it is known to cause some hard migraine headaches. Used often by Berserkers, giving it the nickname Berserker Weed.

Bloodroot: This unassuming looking leafy vine grows from a single source. When pulled up, which can be difficult, a large red root can be seen. Dangerous by itself, but with some certain reagents it can be a powerful antitoxin.

Zephyr Bloom: A flower commonly found in the foothills of mountains. The light blue petals grow in the shape of a tornado. If the petals are used to make a tea, the imbiber feels like they are flying for about an hour.

Rose-of-dawn: The petals of this rose are colored like a sunrise, and can be used to give food a spicy flavor, on the level of a ghost pepper.

Fire moss: Found only underground, this dull red moss is extremely long burning and can be wrapped around a stick and used as a torch for approximately three hours

Screaming Knot vine: A large Knotted wine often used as rope or bow line. When stewed it creates an antiseptic brew that dulls the senses but suppresses the effects of certain painful diseases. It gets it's name from the sound released when boiled and the high pitched "twang" that comes from using it for bows.

Limb seed oil: The distilled oil of the rare limb plant's seed. It can slowly re grow arms and legs. The oil is very painful and slow acting, re growing mere inches of limb every week but is far cheaper that the magical alternatives (but still not cheap). The plant is a huge bush with dark red tear drop berries with white seeds. A mature bush could have over 100 seeds but 1 vial takes around 50 seeds and two days to distil, re growing every few years if harvested properly.

Snap Flower teeth- Orchids that act like semi- sentient Venus fly traps. These small beautiful flowers often eat small animals and can leave deep bite marks. Periodically they will shed petals lined with sharp teeth, when dried and ground up it creates a powerful anticoagulant that is used for heart medication.... or on a blade to stop your opponents wounds from sealing.

Quasar Poppy : A poppy with a magic based reproductive cycle, creating a colourful explosion when it wants to spread it's seeds. The poppy head can be used to create potion versions of the spell "faire fire" or the seed casings can be ground to make brightly coloured dyes that periodically change colour when used on cloth.

Spark needle: A kind of weed that's causes minor prickling and rashes. When grilled the flesh can be eaten, causing minor hallucinations and a tingly "static electricity" kind of feeling across the skin.

Hanging web leaf : A fine silver vine that hangs off ledges. It will often weave itself together and looks a lot like spider web but mush stronger. Often used for medical stitching because of it's gradual brake down inside the body. It can also be used to create certain kinds of antiseptic for animal bites.

Frog seat - A giant toadstool that has a slightly slimy texture. Can be ground into a paste and used to ease aching joints. It is sometimes used to lubricate armour which dulls the shine of steel and softens the sounds of plate moving.

"What? What else must you know? If you are truly a friend of Olek's then I am an open book. I've told you a great deal of my story but nary a peep from you."

He seems to be telling the truth and is genuinely hurt at the suspicious stares

Listen Nikolai, either you just fell off the turnip cart..err.." he looks at the horse and cart. "It's a dangerous world and we're on it's frontier. There are no nations keeps things together. We're way outnumbered. Demon woshippers, beasts from the great beyond, the undying, giants, murderers...Can't be too careful."

Florr nods. "Some of these do sound pretty dangerous! You didn't mention if you knew Lady Adoni or not." She looks over the list again. "I think the most interesting to me is the Zephyr Bloom. And the Limbseed Oil could come in handy with my adventuring group. What can you make with those?"

"Sounds great to me, thank you! How long do you need to make these?" She looks at Storm Surge who is miserably standing in the mud. "We should be going soon."

"Yeah, I get it, trouble can come from unexpected places. Tell you what, how about I buy you all a round for helping me out. Ask me anything. Maybe you could help me get started here. Won't be able to stand still waiting for Olek."

"Naht long'atal."

He hands you

“Zephyrbloom Tea”
A thick glass jar with a small cloth packed of tightly packed dried herbs floating inside.
4 servings.
A sip (one serving): Drinker receives featherfall for 5 minutes. Advantage on dexterity checks, Disadvantage on Wisdom Checks.
A gulp (two servings): Drinker receives benefits of a sip for 10 minutes also, can cast misty step once (removing all current effects).

And...

"Thank you, herbalist. I know this will come in handy, and I can't wait to try it. Makes me wonder what my companions are up to now.... And the other?" Florr asks eagerly.

He hands you a large teardrop shaped, wide jar filled with sticky sap that smells like lemony pinecones. It's very green.

“Limbseed Resin” 3 doses worth:
DC 12 Heal Check: Target receives the benefits of a Lesser restoration spell. The target is also cured of any poisons it’s been infected with. (1 dose)

DC 14 Heal Check: Target receives the benefits of a Greater Restoration spells. (2 doses), DC 12 Wisdom save or become addicted. The target is also cured of any diseases it’s been infected with.

DC 17 Heal Check: Target receives the benefits of a Regenerate spell (and all previous useage effects) 3 doses, DC 14 Wisdom save or become addicted.

You're quite sure that with seeing the herbs in person, watching the herbalists preparation and having the reference book written by John Mercy, you'd be able to notice many of these herbs in the wild, and might be able to make some concoctions. You'd just need to devote some time.

“Cannya al’so bring backa dis incense for the temple? They ordered it awhile ago but it too me awhile. Dubal orda.”

Florr’s checking out the roads, but I don’t think these people would have encountered banditry and the like. They should have left in a caravan, that’s the way around here...all the out of town guests would have left together, perhaps someone didn’t? Town’s quiet, I don’t think anyone’s staying here. It’s curious.

"Yes of course!" Florr says, carefully packing away her items and the incense in Storm Surge's saddlebags. "Thank you. I'm glad to have met you!"

Yarrl has returned home.

You find nothing out of the ordinary on the road.
