Forvenniel Anwamanë |
"The moon watches over the safety of all her children. You have the spirit of the moon within you Norril. We should go and warn the Gillman. "
She looks at the skeletons, could they have been gillmen once?
"He may want to come and pray for his fallen fellows, if they were once as he is now."
D. Kembe |
Kembe watches and listens as the wise woman casts her magic spells and studies the jewelry on the corpse. He nods in agreement, not to mention interest as their mysteries are revealed. "I'd be happy to put either of those to use, especially the ring. Our teachings prohibit us from wearing traditional armor, but instead to anticipate the strikes of our foes. The ring sounds like it would make that job a bit easier if we were a bit slow."
Afterwards when discussing the elder gillman and his possible dead kin, Kembe nods along in agreement. "I will stop in and break the news of their passing and warn him of the hidden dangers here. Sejiri would you care to come with or?"
Iuni Al-Ahdal |
Interesting items, by all means Kembe. What a sad life wanting to be the ruler of the dead. Iuni pulls out her pen and jots a few notes.
Wonder what else this place has in store.
Sejiri |
"I can't see a lifestyle so embroiled in the affairs of the risen dead as being good for one's psyche," Sejiri notes, clutching his staff tight in case of more threats. "A fine idea, we can warn the good gillman and pray to our respective sovereigns there are few more complications. Talking of which, I hope Janira is all right..."
D. Kembe |
Works for me but don't be afraid to make use of one, I don't want to hog the loot.
Kembe bows to the man "My apologies, but we found some risen dead that look to be of your kin, skeletons. They have been destroyed if you want to complete any rituals with the remains. This note was found with a different corpse explaining things." He then proceeds to read the note aloud to the man before bowing and apologizing once more before heading back to the others.
"Be safe."
Norril Tyndall |
How... uncomfortable. Bad enough he is annoyed at us, should make him feel loads better now that we tell him other Gillmen have been found reanimated!
After Uori responds, Norril makes his way to the next tunnel. "Let's press forward and give him some time and space. He doesn't strike me as a fellow who wants to keep talking to us, regardless of what we may have to say."
He leans against the wall, arms crossed and one leg up while he waits for his party. What else lies in these tunnels? I never thought so much could be found beneath the earth. What else will I learn about while serving the Society? Those exams will be easy at this rate!
Forvenniel Anwamanë |
"And signs that they turned on the person who may have created them. But it appears he was trying to build an army of your folk, an undead army of them. There may be powers behind him that you need to be cautious of."
GM Granta |
Uori carefully unfolds his robe and dons it, then packs several small belongings just as meticulously. "Thank you for bringing me this news. It is something I must attend to.
"How do I find this cavern you speak of?"
The gillman asks you to repeat the directions once, then nods and departs without another word.

The persistent glow of the bluish fungi dimly lights the way deeper below the Kortos Mounts. The tunnels broaden to reveal a shallow river that bisects an immense tunnel stretching to the north and south. To the east a small passage exits the chamber at a steep incline.
Two small, lizardlike creatures hiss at your appearance, load their bullets into their slings, and start whirling them around.
Arthur, Sejiri, Iuni, and Kembe are up. Now that you know there are dangers in these tunnels, I do assume that you are walking around with weapons in hand all the time.
D. Kembe |
Kembe travels unarmed for obvious reasons. He doesn't often use the temple sword except against extremely dangerous creatures he doesn't need the nonlethal option for.
Kembe's trained eyes immediately shift towards the scaly creatures wielding slings, he steps forward and takes a defensive posture before calling back to the group "What are these creatures threatening us? Do they warrant our concern?"
5' step and go full defense, +4 AC for a 21. Also have deflect arrows. Kembe isn't a super aggressive punch first ask questions later type.
Sejiri |
Sejiri remains silent throughout the discussion with Uori, having nothing extra to say. When asked, he points out the way to the right cavern. Upon noticing the lizard-things, his hands tighten around his staff, but only when they load their slings does he spring into action. "I don't think we're welcome here, but let's try not to kill them," he posits, stepping forth and whirling his weapon. To the aggressors he calls, "Do either of you speak Taldane? If so, it would be wise of you to simply stand down and let us pass!"

Arthur's eyes go wide as he realizes that his companions are not able to identify the lizardlike creatures in front of them as kobolds. “Kobolds!” Arthur explains, tightening the grip on his rapier. "Sneaky, crafty types..."
Through gritted teeth, he then whispers to his companions. "We should make the first move and attack...And we should also try and keep one of them alive. Kobolds are trap crafter, and if we take one of them, we use him to tell us about the traps they have surely placed around here..."

Arthur identifies their enemies, but doesn't want to be the first one to attack. Iuni moves up to support her allies, starting with Sejiri. Kembe also doesn't want to be the one to start the fight, and takes a defensive posture. Sejiri's quick reflexes enable him to wait for the enemies to attack though, and still get off his own shot first--and he takes down the green-scaled lizard with the shot! The other one glances a sling bullet off Arthur's shoulder, but doesn't do much real damage.
Everybody is up.
Norril Tyndall |
"They also don't do well with bright light,"Norril adds smugly. All your money and you don't know anything about kobolds beyond them being sneaky? "If anyone would like to use this, be my guest," his arm lazily holding out a loaded crossbow.
In fluent draconic, he continues "They are nothing but Kobolds, sniveling, whimpering, scum. Good-for-nothing fools the lot of them, a foe we will surely beat!"

For a moment, Arthur smiles, his train of thought taking him to remote and surely more beautiful places than the one he finds himself currently him. His mind flies to Sivarah, the wild elf he shared a night with before discovering she was a fleeing slave in search of protection. That accident caused him a lot of troubles with both the local authorities and the Chelaxian lord to whom the elf belonged. But it was worth every minute.

His dreamy eyes suddenly coming back to reality, Arthur cries in pain when Forvenniel starts to draw out the poison from him. "*Ouch!*"

The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and the light illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy.
Janira and the minotaur suddenly appear again, obviously exhausted and still fighting each other.
Everybody is up.
Forvenniel Anwamanë |
Forvenniel takes out the scroll of entangle she secured from Janira's backback and casts it. The grass around the Minotaur starts to writhe and grapple at the big creature.
"Beware the grass that moves, it will try to hold you still" she yells out loud, hoping to warn both Janira and her team mates.
D. Kembe |
Kembe moves up with Sejiri and draws out his sling and loads a bullet into it, standing next to his brother. "That's a large beast with a large axe, it may be best we try to soften it up with stone and arrow!"
Sejiri |
Upon seeing Janira's predicament, Sejiri rushes forward and allows the power of the Calamitious Turn to course through him. "Hang on, Janira! Help is on the way!" He then looses off a quick bullet at the minotaur.

The minotaur easily brushes aside Forvenniel's vines and moves out of the area, then tries to cut down Janira. For her part, the halfling dodges the large axe again and tries to make the beast drop it, but ends up losing her whip instead.

With all these projectiles flying at it, putting it on it's back probably won't be of much use.
Norril takes the hint from his allies and draws his crossbow. Iuni, I hope your goddess shines bright enough for this!

Once ready he begins to twirl his staff again until it reaches peak speed, at which point he lets his bullet fly. "Leave her alone, beast! Come and face the wrath of Chaldira!" Try as he might to goad the minotaur, a part of the halfling hopes it will continue its attack on Janira, one which he tries to suppress whenever it makes an appearance.

Forvenniel rushes out of the cave, gasping at the sight of Janira, but happy to be bathed once more in moonlight.
As she exists, she grabs hold of one of the tanglefoot bags.
Lord Arthur Ockham |
"A damsel in danger! Hold on, Janira!"
Arthur boldly tries to rush down toward the stream.
GM Granta |
@Sejiri: Slings won't hold a bullet in place like a crossbow bolt. They need to be loaded right before firing.
Arthur and Iuni run toward Janira and the stream, but Kembe pulls up short and hits the minotaur with his own sling. Norril follows suit, but his aim isn't as true. Forvenniel moves closer while drawing a sloshing bag of liquid. Sejiri hits the beast yet again, and this time he catches the monster right in the eye before it even has a chance to blink.
Overwhelmed by the Pathfinders' ranged assault, the minotaur turn tail and leaves Janira catching her breath.
Great rolls! No healing needed, so just talk to Janira if you'd like.
Sejiri |
Ah, that makes sense. Curse reality getting in the way of my plans...
Sejiri briefly considers firing again as the minotaur flees, but decides it dishonorable and having little point. The halfling thus contents himself with a shout of "And stay away!" He then follows the others across the stream to Janira. "Are you all right? I believe we have successfully explored the caves."
Forvenniel Anwamanë |
Rapid reload is really helpful for sling characters...
Basking in the moonlight, Forvenniel slowly dances towards the exhausted Janira.
"Lady Janira! You saved us! And we had such an interesting time in the caves. " She reaches up stretching as if to embrace the moon above.
"We met one of the gillmen and talked with him, although he told us little. And found an ancient temple, and undead army.. - well the start of one..." she seems excited and breathless at the same time.
"We used some of your gear though.."
D. Kembe |
Kembe watches Sejiri intently, interested to see what he'll do with the fleeing beast. A fine choice brother. Kembe then takes a few more steps and vaults the stream to help Janira. "Janira! Let me help you, are you wounded? Sit, rest." Kembe helps support the woman and gives her a look over for obvious wounds.
Iuni Al-Ahdal |
Iuni offers her notes to Janira, Here's my notes the gillman wasn't very talkative, but I think it's a holy place for them, but not for Arodon even though it's one for him too.
Iuni looks over the others and somehow knows here path lies in a different direction as them. We've done well here, it's been so nice to have my confirmation with the rest of you. If our paths don't cross again may Sarenrae's light shine on you.
Forvenniel Anwamanë |
"The gillman told us little about why they come here. He was resting in a pool. " she says dreamily.
"Part of his 'spiritual journey'. It would seem a necromancer has been preying on his people making this journey, and animating their bodies.."
D. Kembe |
Kembe nods along with the others as he helps Janira get comfortable and rest, offering his waterskin. "He was meditating or praying, or both. He was agitated with our presence and disturbances, but seemed thankful for the destruction of the walking bones. He took his leave once we told him."
Kembe pulls out the potions he borrowed from the pack and returns them to the Halfling woman. "Your gifts were useful, but most of them we didn't need, here."

You have been stationed at the Grand Lodge in Absalom, awaiting assignment for a mission of utmost importance. Things finally seemed in motion when Venture-Captain drandle Dreng sent out a summons for available agents. Specialized in the history of Absalom, Dreng is known for putting off-duty agents to work on sundry tasks when he finds them resting within the city limits.
As you approach the meeting place, a hooded, hunched beggar bumps into Althera and holds out his palm, "Have you any coin to spare, fine folk?"
A moment later, the figure doffs his hood and you realize this senile face must be Venture-Captain Drandle Dreng, "Sorry about that. I always like to play a little joke on agents when I stumble across them during my jaunts into town. Now, why did I summon you fine folk here . . .?"
Dreng scratches himself in several places before continuing, "Ah, yes, the Wounded Wisp! I'm undercover now and can't stray far from here, so I need someone to retrieve a bottle of wine for me from that fine, fine establishment. It's one of Absalom's most storied taverns, you know, and one that holds a special place in the hearts and lore of the Pathfinder Society.
"The bartender is a woman named Heryn Gale, a fine, fine lady who inherited the Wisp after her father passed away from--oh, bah, I'm going to break my cover giving you a history lesson! If you could just go to the Wisp and tell Heryn you're there to pick up my bottle of wine, it would be most appreciated. I'll be around here for several hours at least, but try to hurry."
