Jidai Oyuki |
"This shrine," Jidai says. "It seems strange to me to honor the delusional. They thought they were gods. Perhaps this is a dead-end, but we did have other leads. Let us try the gnome. Perhaps he will know something."
Xanac Candledark |
"Correction: They thought they were qualified to become gods. Do you think the gods themselves are delusional? What about those who passed the Test?"
"To accuse one of delusion is to raise the specter of the twilight zone: Is the one delusional...or is the other blind?"
GMTrex |
Silmor's alcove is much like Yepyari's, except instead of driftwood, a single dagger with a broken blade rests upon the altar.
Xanac Candledark |
Once again, Xanac studies the contents of the altar, such as they are.

Agis of Sothis |
We can just take 20 and search them all.

Tsschas Blackfang |
Tsschas will aid the others as he can, teh ways of these city dwellers and warmbloods are indeed strange though their ways are yet interesting.
"Shall we not search this place carefully before deciding?"
GMTrex |
After a careful (looong) search of Silmor's alcove, the party eventually discovers an illusory wall hiding a door with no handle, knob, keyhole, or latch. It does not respond to shoving and turns all attempts to simply break through it.
Jillia Tennille |
"Can't solve a puzzle without all of the pieces. Let's press on."
GMTrex |
Where to? Follow up the Arkath lead, or Fimbrik?
Jillia Tennille |
Let's see what we can find out about Fimbrik, then move on to see what Arkath's trail can tell us.
Agis of Sothis |
Agreed.

Armed with Fimbrik's home address, the party heads over to the Wise Quarter. A brick step leads to the front entrance of the richly-built stone house. Numerous stacks of newspapers--roughly 2 years’ worth of monthly copies--are piled around the door and crammed into a thin slot at its base. Each rounded corner of the building has a large picture window.
Tsschas Blackfang |
Tchass nods and follows Agis.
"Best not to be alone."
Jidai Oyuki |
"Would it not be best to knock on the door?" Jidai asks. "Though it does appear no one is home...or has been for some time," she adds.
Not waiting for the others to look around, she knocks confidently on the front door.
GMTrex |
As Jidai knocks on the heavy wooden door, Agis and Tsschas head around the building to look in the windows. To the right of the door is a well-appointed library, where a richly-dressed gnome peruses his collection on a step-ladder, aged blue hair sticking out in all directions and back to the window.
There is no response to Jidai's firm knocking.
GMTrex |
Louder knocking produces similar results: nothing. Tapping on the window of the study only induces the gnome to smile and tip his hat before returning to his newspaper.
Xanac Candledark |
Xanac looks in the window at the gnome, his eyes narrowed....

But of course, he thinks. What self-respecting Gnome wouldn't?
Jumping the gun to move things along:
"Correction: He's left his illusions behind to watch over the place."
Tsschas Blackfang |
"But why?" Tsschas Asks......
Jillia Tennille |
"Whatever the reason, we need a way in, Jillia says happily, already skirting the building looking for a place to climb in or break in or squeeze in.
Tsschas Blackfang |
Tsschas stares at Jillia's retreating back, shrugs and joins Agis in opening the door.

Tsschas breaks the rusty iron lock that holds the door shut and shoves the door open. Inside is a nice sitting room, replete with comfortable chairs, a sofa, and neat stacks of yellowed newspapers piled near the door.
Agis of Sothis |
Place looks small enough. Agis goes about looking for clues as to his whereabouts or anything else of note. He uses telekinesis to move objects and prestidigitation to keep the dust off of himself.
GMTrex |
Surprisingly, there is no dust to speak of. The room is remarkably well kept and clean. There is, however, a summoning circle that activates as soon as Agis steps next to the couch. A host of beetles appears!

"Bloody hell, so much for a simple task." Blast: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Agis hurls an old newspaper with shocking speed, but it snags on the back of the couch and just serves to make it rain confetti.
Jillia Tennille |
"Now we're getting somewhere! Let's clean these things up and see what they're trying to protect," Jillia calls, already in motion around the west end of the sofa.

Agis curses his lack of control and training. He tries to dive over the beetle to give himself some space: Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 When he gets clear he blasts a new paper at the green beetle. Blast: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 THREAT

If he fails his Acrobatics and takes the AoO, the blast won't change, but the beetle would get another AoO if it's got combat reflexes.
Jidai Oyuki |
"Guardians!" she exclaims.
Jidai steps into the room and kicks one of the beetles powerfully its exoskeleton.

GMTrex |
Agis leaps over a beetle and smashes a bundle of papers down on its carapace, crushing it into a gooey texture (which then vanishes). Jidai kicks another beetle and flips it over, allowing Jillia to stab it, and Tsschas impales the last one with his spear!
Out of combat!
Being young adventurers, the Pathfinders are quick to notice a pair of long-forgotten potions sitting on the nearby still. One has a blue-ish color, the other clear.
On a table in the southwest corner of the room is a neatly penned letter, left open and in plain view. See Handouts. On the back of the letter is written Doulgonlir Caskmail in block letters. A rudimentary search of the property reveals some more illusions but little else of interest.
Jillia Tennille |
Jillia pens a hastily-scrawled combination apology/thank you letter to Fimbrik.
"Doulgonlir Caskmail...anyone ever hear of him?" Jillia asks hopefully. "Back to the wall, it seems."
Tsschas Blackfang |
Tsschas grins, showing his teeth....all of it.
"I have not heard of a single one before so I'm sure I'm clear in that area."
Agis of Sothis |
"I don't think he's been around in a while, and I think these potions are fair game. Anyone know what they are?"
Agis looks about and dusts himself off, "Back to the wall. Let's go!"
GMTrex |
Memory of the afternoon's earlier events returns slowly to the Pathfinders. Eventually, someone pipes up that they'd already checked out that name. It read:

Jidai Oyuki |
The potion doesn't look like one Jidai is familiar with, either. She doesn't know what it does.

Just past the gates of the grandiose graveyard, a woman in white robes bearing sun motifs confronts the Pathfinders with scimitar drawn. "You! What are you doing here?!"
Agis of Sothis |

"And you think to do it by robbing graves?" the woman asks with barely restrained hostility.
