Point of order... @huntsmen, do we still have the other loot from that shallow grave? The ring might be something this guy could ID, but I'd hate to bring it up only to say we had sold it. Un-P-of-O

The Huntsmen ride east, stopping briefly at Bokken's to purchase a pair of curatives, and then continuing out into the plain. The first two days out offer pleasant spring sunshine and make for easy surveying. For mapping this hex, each Huntsman earns 20 XP.

20th Gozran

The adventurers then turn southeast. Ahead, the foothills of the mountain range known as the Tors of Levenies can be seen some miles distant, reminding you that this is the very edge of the Greenbelt.

You dismount and ready your surveying gear, about to start the day's work, when all five horses suddenly neigh in alarm. Lumbering from a dell some fifty paces distant is a massive, warted humanoid of gator-green skin, huge claws, and sharp tusks protruding from its bestial face!

Zed knows a troll when he sees one, though he does not know of any particular troll resistances. He recalls something about a regenerative ability...

He calls forth an eagle (Fort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4) and drains himself in the process. The eagle speeds forward and launches beak-first at the troll, failing to pierce its hide but buying the party a much-needed distraction.

Summon Monster is a short-range spell, so the eagle would need to move in order to attack, meaning just one attack this round. Will it survive to a second?

Nope. The troll roars in fury at this invasion of its personal space. It snaps at the eagle with its teeth, killing it in one bite. The mighty raptor's bones crunch with a distinct snap.

The lair is not far from the site of your fight, barely two hundred yards away, and therefore not hard to find. Toth has a hard time of it given the sheer overpowering nature of the stench.

Indeed, the inside of the cave is ghastly to all senses. The stench rivals the largest cesspit of Restov. The air is cloying and clammy. The grime and gnawed bones and rotting flesh assault the eyes.

But you have found what you came for. Among the troll's meager belongings, including a bundle of sticks and a dented dwarven helm cracked beyond repair, is a small sack of coins. 120 silver pieces and 95 gold pieces.

Of course, this adventurous pursuit comes at a price... heavy footfalls outside herald the arrival of the troll's mate!
