GMTrex |

The Huntsmen find no clan markings or valuables on either the mite or the kobolds, as all four have been stripped naked. You do, however, find a great many tracks. There are two sets of kobold tracks leading away from the dead mite, and five sets of mite tracks leading away from the dead kobolds.
The mite tracks lead towards the tree.
A half-mile on, you come across two dead mites dressed in rags and one dead kobold, naked but clutching the splinters remains of a broken spear. As before, there are several sets of tracks around the bodies, including at least three sets of kobold tracks and three sets of mite tracks.
The mite tracks lead towards the tree.
You encounter the evidence of two more pitiful scraps on your way to the towering sycamore, but find no valuables there. Now under the branches of the great tree, there is a multitude of mite tracks, a veritable highway. They lead to a dark shaft that squeezes between the thick, ancient roots of the tree.

Taranis Redleaf |

"Then let us enter and see."
Into the tree!

GMTrex |

The team clambers down between the roots and emerge in a dark, cramped tunnel. Ahead, the tunnel splits left and right, both leading down.
Marc, especially, finds the cramped quarters difficult to navigate. Ceiling is 5 feet high at most, requiring you to crouch. Attack rolls take a -2 penalty (-4 for reach weapons).

Taranis Redleaf |

"Left."

GMTrex |

Crouching, crouching, the Huntsmen half-walk, half-crawl along a downward-sloping tunnel. It does not take long before you emerge in a wider cavern--though still very cramped--the floor of which appears rather wet and is crisscrossed by several shallow trenches, each containing trickles of putrid-looking fluid. Six foul mounds of dung and compost lie heaped about the space, each festooned with small spherical eggs.
Across the room sits a female mite, happily petting and cooing at three enormous centipedes that munch on the contents of a blood-stained bowl at her feet. As you enter, the centipedes stop and hiss in your direction, prompting the mite to leap up off her stool in shock!

Augrym, too, readies himself for battle. Centipedes are pretty straightforward, other than the poison they carry in their mandibles.
Someone want to bot Zed?

Zed the Unbroken |

- Round the First
- Current HPs: 12/12
Zed tries to help the melee party members get some room to maneuver by enlarging the tunnel. He pulls his hood up to keep the grit from falling down the back of his collar and casts Expeditious Excavation on the ceiling.
Spells Remaining: 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |

GMTrex |

Zed supplies precious inches to his armed comrades! For a creative use of the spell, I am ruling that the extra space reduces the attack roll penalty to -1 (-3 for reach weapons).
Marc makes good use of his long polearm, despite the cramped space, and cuts down two of the swarming centipedes. One sneaks by him, but cannot find purchase with its clicking mandibles.

Augrym, too, finds nothing but roots for his blade. Fortunately, Zed comes to his rescue with a well-timed arcane bolt, and the centipede is no more.
Out of combat! For surviving the three centipedes, each Huntsman earns 150 XP.

GMTrex |

Another sloping passage leads further down underground. Hunching along, he emerges into another more "spacious" chamber. The damp room is haphazardly cluttered with broken beds, chairs, wagon wheels, and an assortment of worn, tattered, dingy, and broken objects pilfered or salvaged from big folk. A row of bookcases stands crookedly propped against the far wall, the shelves filled with bits of bone, feathers, and dried centipede legs. Old window frames, cracked and splintered, hang upon the wall like works of fine art.
Marc immediately spies a half-dozen mites. Two pitifully attempt to play a folk song on shabby stringed instruments. Two more sit nearby, jeering and throwing rocks at the musicians. Lastly, a pair of mites lie beneath a ragged sheet reading a book with torn pages. The book is upside down.

GMTrex |

"INTRUDERS!!!" one of the musicians shouts, a screech playing on his instrument to complement. All six mites scramble to their feet, brandishing bits of sharp metal.

Zed the Unbroken |

- Round the Second

Zed weaves a magical spell...
With a small audible ‘pop’ and a sudden whoosh, a powerful Shepherd Dog appears. Its coat is clean and has a healthy shine to it; light plays along the brown, black, and blond fur of the majestic creature. Its maw is slightly open and a hint of pink tongue shows through its bright white teeth. Its paws are overly large, and its long tail wags twice before the canine lowers its stance and pulls its lips back in a near-silent growl…
Zed orders the dog to chase down any remaining kites

Down a filthy set of steps, Unrak and Marc can see rows of wooden pegs lining the earthen walls of the next cavern, some hung with tiny, filthy cloaks. In the center of the room stands a rickety table held together with twine, covered with a filthy redchecked tablecloth and heaped with mounds of dirt and twigs and gravel, apparently arranged to form some sort of map. Sitting at the edge of the map, weighing down a scrap of paper, is a bloodstained ivory statuette of what looks like a crouching reptilian devil. A bulging burlap sack sits under the table.
There are no less than eight mites crowded into this room. Mounted atop an arachnid the size of the dog that Zed just summoned is a particularly ugly mite with a face full of pus-filled pimples. This mite snarls at you and, in Taldane, squeaks a battle cry: "For the hive!"
Zed: I need a Fort save if you are casting as a standard action. If not, your dog will appear at the start of your next turn.
