Slach - I made an Excel chart showing the ratings each PFS module had gotten because I eventually want to run all those that got high ratings.
That sounds dandy. Where could I find it?

What, no Billy Joel fans? Not even a groan?

so - Smooth Stone Chest. Aside from responding well to avian incubation, what was the trick on that one? Was it a matter of passing a will save when opening the lid, to avoid the persistent illusion that it remained closed? I still think it's a cool (if bulky - probably stays back at the nest) souvenir magic item, well worth 50 g.p. :)

Oh, I got the reference. And I think that was just the trick to the chest. I'm still wondering if there wasn't more to the Devil Dial, though, than just a simple unmarked combination lock. Maybe we should have tried "6-6-6," whatever that would mean.
As far as the scenario list, I don't think I'll need it after all. My decision was made much easier when I checked back on the roster, and saw that all but a few games were full already.

I've got a (level 5-9) game that only one guy has signed up for.
Yes, Flinkae, that's the trick. I've watched three teams struggle with this now, and they go through all sorts of mechanics, or turning it upside down or what have you, but it seems to take awhile before anyone says "open the lid".
As for the Devil Dial, it's just a straight DC 18 Disable Device check. If you listen for the falling tumblers and get two successive successful Perception checks, you can lower the Disable Device check to a 10.

Guido pioneered that approach, I figured Slach should just give it another shot in case his first save didn't take. At least we didn't miss any alternate solutions, then.
I don't know about the rest of our group, but if I didn't have only 1st-level PFS characters I'd be glad to hop in that other game.

@slachagok - if you want to play, and have an interest in the scenario, you can take a pre-built. you can apply the credit to either a 1st level (with lots of limits), or hang onto it to apply once a character reaches the same level as the pre-built.
Personally, I've taken a liking to the pre-gen rogue (Merisiel). :)
@Iason - thanks for the positive reviews on Flikae, this is his premier. And backatcha - I'm enjoying Iason and Etrigan more than I have any previous summoner. Good gift for verse you've got <envy>
In fact, I'm enjoying this group as a collection of personalities quite a bit. Thanks much all!

Thanks for the tip, I'll check them out. Those are the 'iconics' on the PRD, right?
And I also am having a lot of fun with the group RP dynamics. It's quite the troupe we've got here.

OK, having now blown my untrained 'play the piano' roll, next round, when it might count, I'm going to blow the DC5 acrobatics roll, and fall on my pointy avian head. Just watch...

Tarondor - you and me both - band dad on Saturday, birthday celebration, landscaping, and home repairs today. But at least I learned a batch about trailers and hitches this weekend. :)

![]() |

Do we have any way to determine whether this young lady belongs here? I'm not inclined to let anyone else twiddle these ivories until I can determine that they're a genuine pries of the faith, willing to really finish things up right.
"And the piano, it sounds like a carnival!"
knowledge(religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
"Hymnals to #492 - together on three."
@Tarondor - did you notice that I made a good religion check a couple rounds ago? BTW, the link leads to, "Only a Step to the Grave", which seemed an appropriate hymn. :)

@Tarondor - spell combat is 1st level. Second level is spellstrike, which allows delivery of touch spells with a melee weapon - if I had that, I would have rolled damage for the corrosive touch as part of the kama attack.

![]() |

I could have taken a melee touch attack as a free action along with the spell, but I held it, hoping for a 'sure attack' next round. It's still pending, since I did miss that 'sure attack'.

Thanks, guys!
Nessian critted me with his bow for 30 points of damage, his maximum. My first PFS game ever! As it happens, I also critted a character in Table D as Nessian during this game for 20 points, dropping him to -11. He survived, though.
I have also had two other PFS characters killed, all three at GenCon. The other two got better, though.

Darn. Glad Slach's luck was a bit better, then. This was the first PFS scenario I've played as well, though I've rolled up a couple other characters in the meantime that ended up finishing their scenarios first. (How long does Mists of Mwangi take at a table, like 30 minutes? Geez.)

![]() |

I think the 'random crit toasts a character' happens a bunch for L1 PFS. I lost one of my favorites (ported into PFS from 3.5) to a crit from a lizardman in a bar - wasn't supposed to be a real threat, but a weird fluke had him toast my poor Aesantiel.

That would explain all the Jump/Tumble stuff, then.
Thanks for the spreadsheet. I decided to just bring a different character for PbP Gameday, so I'll put this to work right away finding a new scenario for Slach.
Regardless, this was much more fun than Mists or First Steps Pt I, even if it did take twice as long as either. Would we still be allowed to roll Day Job checks? I wouldn't have though it'd make much difference, especially with the retrain, but between a masterwork falchion and set of heavy armor, Inquis-agok gonna be pretty much wiped out already.
Day Job: Perform (Oratory): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Big money.
