Lukas Vanivek |
GM, you list me as prone, but I used a Stand action my last turn (see my post from Fri 9:44 pm). Did the automaton knock me over again?
GM Tarondor |
Nope. My mistake.
Laughing, Klarkosh puts forth his hand and from his fingers sprays a horrid cloud of noxious gas that fills the western end of the room! Somehow this causes his spear to burst into flame and he rams that flaming length of steel into Lukas's chest!
The stinking cloud causes all creatures within it to become concealed, and all creatures outside the mist become concealed to creatures within it.
Klarkosh's nanite surge: 1d20 ⇒ 13 Fire.
Klarkosh longspear v. Lukas: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 311d8 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (3, 2) = 14 Critical hit!

Perfire -
Perfire, Lukas, Frizz and Wymond (but not Lilika), give me DC 26 Fortitude saves!
Then, Frizz, go!
Lukas Vanivek |
DM, that might not be a crit actually. Last turn's actions also included Raise Shield, which brings my AC to 23. I'll change Lukas' status line to something like "AC: 21 (23 w/shield)" to better reflect that. Sorry, this is only my second time in PF2e so I'm still feeling out a proper stat writeup! :-\
Fort: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
OOF! Take consolation in the fact that I got all of that one!
Lukas barely manages to turn Klarkosh's spear from running right through him, but he's then laid low by the noxious cloud the wizard has summoned.
GM Tarondor |
Sorry, Lukas. You're right again. It's a hit, but not a crit.
Lukas gets a lungful of noxious air. He is Sickened 2 and until he leaves the cloud, is also Slowed 1.

Frizz coughs on the gas and drops her crossbow.
She then scrambles and runs toward where she last saw Lukas, following the length of the machinery until the cloud clears. She then draws her whip from her belt.
Draw whip and stride. Sickened 1 and Slowed 1 no more!

He shuffles to the side and back, just outside the cloud.
That's a Step action, right?

Well it would be, but it's not your turn. Frizz moved because it was his turn. I'll put your token back.
GM Tarondor |
The emerald automaton, arcing and sparking, lashes out at three of its opponents. Its first overhand slash at Wymond catches the paladin off guard and slams down into his breastplate, denting it and bruising bone. Lightning leaps off the damaged construct and runs static wreathes around Wymond like some technological St. Elmo's fire.
2d3 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 Wymond, Frizz, then Lukas.
Emerald Automaton v. Wymond: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 341d10 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 Critical hit.

Wymond, Perfire, Lukas and Lilika, go! Lukas and Wymond, you are starting your turn adjacent to the automaton, so give me that sweet, sweet DC 18 Fortitude save!
Perfire Ridal |
Perfire stumbles out of the noxious cloud and tucks into and alcove. He then sets to violently retching, attempting to get the foul air out of his lungs and stomach.
Stride, retch to attempt to remove sickened.
Retch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Lukas Vanivek |
Stumbling out of the cloud, Lukas hacks wildly with his sword at the automaton.
Step and Strike, no third action b/c I was Slowed.
+1 striking longsword Attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 - 2 = 28 But I believe the automaton is flanked with Wymond, right? If so, a -2 to its AC, which is a wash with the Sickened.
+1 striking longsword Damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (8, 2) + 3 = 13 Slashing Doubled to 26 if that's a crit, right?
Lukas Vanivek |
Sorry! You didn't list it in the post yesterday, out of sight out of mind. :)
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Wymond Dwerryhouse |
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Wymond, despite his wounds, manages to avoid the lightning, breathing a sigh of relief. Then he steps out of the cloud to try and regain his breath. And then, he strikes at the construct, hoping to try and take it down once and for all, before it kills him!
Step, then Strike!
Bardiche (1): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 302d10 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 = 6
GM Tarondor |
Wymond, hold up. You're probably going to want to submit new orders.
As Perfire chokes and Lilika scrabbles fiercely against her prison, Lukas drives his longsword into the automaton's chest, straight through the rent in the carapace Wymond had made earlier. Something fragile breaks and the machines jerks and trembles. Sparks run harmlessly up Lukas's arms, wreathing him in lightning, and then the automaton falls heavily to the floor.
Wymond: Your choice, new orders or feel free to move to the right distance and apply that attack (high attack, low damage) to Klarkosh.
By the way, you're only slowed until you leave the cloud, so I rule that you immediately regain your third action if you're out of the cloud after your second action.
Wymond Dwerryhouse |
Okay, thanks to Tarondor's clarification, I'm going to keep my orders and the attack roll, if only to guarantee a hit on Klarkosh, and then us my third action to lay on hands and regain some HP.
Seeing the automaton fall, Wymond's face lights up as he emerges from the choking fog and hacks at Klarkosh.
"Not so high and mighty without your clanky bodyguard, eh?!"
Then he puts a hand on his heart, letting Erastil's healing energy flow through him.
"Thank ye, Ol' Deadeye."
Wymond Dwerryhouse |
You want to roll for that healing?
In 2e the amount lay on hands heals is always 6 HP; no more, no less.
Lukas Vanivek |
GM Tarondor wrote:You want to roll for that healing? In 2e the amount lay on hands heals is always 6 HP; no more, no less.
Do these spells auto-heighten? If so, my read of AONPRD is that it's 6 hp per level the spell is cast at.

An easier way to remember is whatever the highest spell level you can cast, your cantrips and focus spells are heightened to that level. At 4th level, Wymond heals for 12hp for every Lay on Hands.

OH GOD I'VE BEEN DOING THIS WRONG THIS ENTIRE TIME! I'm really having a hard time mastering the transition from 1E to 2E play here...
GM Tarondor |
End Persistent Damage on Wymond?: 1d20 ⇒ 8 Nope.
Wymond's bardiche slams down on Klarkosh, only to find that his flesh is as hard as stone! Wymond draws a tiny trickle of blood as the mage laughs maniacally.
The clockwork mage unleashes waves of lightning at Lukas and Perfire, then whirls and stabs at Wymond with his longspear, which is crackling with electricity, but the paladin blocks the stab with his poleaxe!

Perfire Ridal |
[ooc]You said earlier that when I left the cloud the Slowed status would fall off. I'm going to assume it's off but I think it should be pretty straight forward to drop one roll from what I'm about to do[ooc]
Perfire flings an arm out in sickened frustration and a salvo of arcane missiles streak out towards Karklosh.

Frizz's lash whips out, seizes the Clockwork Mage by the ankle and pulls him to the ground with a crash! Klarkosh is unharmed by the fall or the subsequent lashing. However, Perfire's magic missiles slice unerringly into Klarkosh's flesh, cutting him. The wizard stops laughing, but you can still hear Lukas guffawing hysterically.

Wymond Dwerryhouse |
Wymond grimaces as he tries to overcome the nausea Klarkosh's spell created in him.
Spending an action to trie and get rid of the Sickened condition!
Fortitude: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Despite all his years mucking out stables and cowpens, he can't quite shake this off, so instead, he takes advantage of the opening Frizz has created for him, whaling on the downed mage!

GM Tarondor |
Wymond, you take a -1 status penalty to all your checks and DC's while Sickened 1. That means you hit AC 21 and 19. And those are misses.
Wymond feels woozy and ill and it throws off his aim. He continues his whirling, slashing duel with the Clockwork Mage.
Lukas, go! Frizz, please give me orders for Lilika!
Lukas Vanivek |
Still gagging, Lukas backs out of the spear's reach, and asks for Iomedae's blessing to heal his wounds.
Stride, and a 2-action Heal from Healing Font
Heal: 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (7, 1) + 16 = 24
GM Tarondor |
Lukas heals himself a bit.
I think we'll accept that Lilika is out of this fight, unless it goes on longer than a minute.
Klarkosh rises, gears ticking. He waves his hands and roars and each of you is gripped by an unreasoning terror!

Perfire Ridal |
Will: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 10 - 2 = 20
Perfire shrinks back briefly in terror before finding the briefest amount of courage. His stomach churning with the effects of the cloud now combined with the fear of the monstrous mage Perfire fumbles for a scroll and draws it, ready to evoke it's magics/
I'm unclear on how many actions it takes to draw a scroll. IF I still have two actions available I'll use it, if one I think I'll just retch.
GM Tarondor |
Yeah, Klarkosh is a tough foe for characters of the intended level. For lower level foes, he's a beast. He's run through -most- of his higher-level spells in this fight, if that's any consolation.
Lukas, I think you have a third action. Would you like to spend it trying to clear the Sickened condition again? Or something else?
Perfire. If you have an item readily available (in a bandolier or stuck in your belt) it's a single Interact action to draw it. If it's in your pack or in a pouch, it's two Interact actions.
So I need more from Lukas and Perfire.
Lukas Vanivek |
Fort vs sickened: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Thanks, not sure how I pooched the action count there. I'll count to three eventually! :D
Perfire Ridal |
I had them in a scroll case Perfire wore on his belt in 1e but I couldn't find one in the equipment for 2e so I didn't add it to his sheet. The intent was to keep them more or less accessible at all times. I'll just go ahead and post both possible actions for if I have 1 or 2 actions available and you can make the call on which goes off.
Perfire reads the arcane markings from the scroll and a gout of flame erupts, engulfing Klarkosh.
Burning Hands: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8
Basic Reflex DC 20, -2 for sickened 2, -2 for frightened 2 for a final DC of 16 if I'm doing that right.
Perfire retches, doing his best to keep the retrieved scroll out of the worst of it.
Retch: 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 - 2 - 2 = 13
GM Tarondor |
Perfire, assume that your 1e scroll case is a 2e bandolier. That means you drew the scroll in 1 action and have two left.
Klarkosh Reflex save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 Success. Take 4 damage.
At the end of his turn fleeing, Wymond took 2 persistent damage.
End Wymond's persistent damage?: 1d20 ⇒ 8 Nope.
Klarkosh surveys the scene and decides that Lukas is the biggest threat. He waves his hand at the priest and speaks...very...slowly. Lukas, you feel the world speeding up around you! His spear charges up with a black emptiness, but no one is within reach. He takes a step towards Lukas.

Wymond about-faces and emerges from the cloud again.

Lukas's sword rings off the stone-hard skin of Klarkosh, but it does leave a trickle of blood. The Clockwork Mage snarls in anger at this effrontery. He hurls a bolt of solidified acid at Wymond.
