Liam moves to the north and casts another acid splash
Acid: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 1 = 21
Bones Burn: 1d3 ⇒ 3
"Val, anything you can do for Thorny? We need to finish this thing!"
GM Tarondor
Target?: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Skeleton v. Nighttail: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 201d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
The skeleton slashes at Nighttail, cutting the little kobold across the head.
Nighttail reverses her spear and attempts to smash the skeleton with the blunt end, but it blocks her attack with its battered shield.
Nighttail and bless v. Skeleton (improvised weapon): 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 1 - 4 = 111d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

ahhh, got it - not used to block initiative.
Liam again sends an acid splash the skeleton's way...
Acid Splash: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 1 = 11 (vs Touch AC)
Bones Burn: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Starting to get desperate, Liam mutters, "C'mon Thorny, we need you..."

Listening to his comrades struggle all around him and just lying there like a helpless newborn, Thorny tries to squeeze his eyes shut.
GM Tarondor
Colcille's hammer smashes through the skeleton's breastbone and the whole nasty thing collapses with a sigh into a pile of old bones and weapons.
Moments later, Thorny's muscles begin to grow slack and allow movement, a little and first but he rapidly regains his mobility.

Thorny keeps his eyes furiously shut and rubs his head-rag in his eyes to mop away the sweat and.. moisture? "S-s..sorry everyone. I don't know..." he pauses. "I wasn't strong enough." He firms up his face and stiffens his posture, but his eyes are still bloodshot and soft. The scar of the branded coward's "C" stark white on his brow against his flushed face, he re-covers it with the rag and picks up his sword and shield.
"How are we, then? Valena and Nighttail, you look like you need aid." He rummages through his pack, unable to find a healing salve.
On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being "yikes," how rough does Nighttail look?
Valena Lasca
"I can heal both of us with my wand Thorny." She uses her wand on them both.
"That thing was horrible. I didn't know how to fix you. I'm glad you came back to yourself." She gives him a pat on the arm. "That was horrible. Do they have anything interesting on them?"

"Good, Thorny's back... everyone OK? Any choice on left or right? These kobolds and their surprises, we need to be on the lookout, prevent the 'gotcha.' I vote right when everyone is ready."
Little Liam
After the GM returns with any items (if any) discovered by Eli's exam of the caster
...and my bad - there is only one way to go, could have sworn there were two, but maybe I was thinking of the previous chamber.
Liam moves the dancing lights down the cave corridor, looking intently.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
...and is completely fascinated by the striation patterns of the cave walls as he bumbles forward obliviously...
GM Tarondor
Valena's prayers heal everyone in the party. "A godstick," says Nighttail. "Nice."
Eliastra searches the body of the dead shaman and finds several things that hold her interest. The shaman wore a small suit of chainmail and bore a masterwork quarterstaff. An unknown potion lays in one of his pockets. Finally, there is a solid gold (if exceptionally dirty) medallion showing the leering face of a demon.
Up ahead the path splits in two, with the rightmost path curving back and to the north and the leftmost curving south. The rightmost path is blocked by a simple wooden gate easily opened by removing a loop of rope.

"Liam, Valena - is any of this magical?"
Eliastra will take the gear, as she understands the armor and staff can certainly cover her expenses for a while. If anyone wants any of it for use, help yourself! Otherwise, she will haul it out of here.
"Gate? Shall we try it?"
Little Liam
"Ummm, just a sec, this might take about a minute..." Liam concentrates on the items Eli holds out, casting detect magic and holding the concentration for a while.
"I can only tell if it is magical, not what properties or use they might have. I'm afraid I don't know much about magic, it's still so new to me. I'll learn the more I'm exposed I'm sure."
Valena Lasca
Val examines both the potion and the cloak looking at them for their magical properties.
Spellcraft potion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Spellcraft cloak: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
"The gate sounds good."
Little Liam
Liam watches Val intently as she studies the items, asks a few questions on what she is looking for to be able to tell the properties, and nods approvingly as (I assume) she explains.
Valena Lasca
"It's a cloak that gives protection and a potion that does a lot of healing. Thorny do you have a cloak like this?"
She hands the potion to Liam. "Hold on to this. Who knows when we'll need a bunch of healing and I can't help."
She gives Thorny an open it nod.
Wilham "Thorny" Thornbriar
|
"I do not. Thank you." He reaches for the cloak and fastens it around himself. After, he reaches for the gate, opens it, and steps through.
GM Tarondor
The northern half of the chamber consists of a two-foot-deep bowl-shaped section of smoothed stone covered with leaves and downy bird feathers. Carefully nested in this space are dozens of scaly, green-tinged kobold eggs, each about the size of an orange.
Two kobolds and a large fanged frog stand resolutely between you and the eggs. They hiss at you in draconic.
"They say they are Guardians of the Future," says Nighttail. "They not want to fight you. They say leave this place and they will tell you of a great danger between you and Chief Roaghaz."
Little Liam
Liam whispers to his compatriots, "Clutch of eggs. I don't think this is a threat we need to concern ourselves with right now. I say we focus on finding and eliminating this chief. Maybe we can convince this one afterwards to make another home somewhere else and relocate the eggs, I don't know, but I think we should handle this later."
Eliastra Greenbow
|
"I am not sure how I feel about this, but maybe we can make something good come of this. Very well, I agree to leaving this clutch in return for information."
GM Tarondor
The team leaves and heads west. Forwarned by the Guardians of the Future, Eliastra finds the floor coated in oil. Several small tripwires and a stockpile of alchemist's fire hidden against the ceiling threaten immediate doom. One by one, she makes the tripwires safe and disables the horrific trap.
Now that the trap is disarmed, it is possible to retrieve a dozen vials of alchemist's fire from the ceiling.

Thorny takes 3, also. Holding one against the light provided by Liam, squints inside the vial. "Nasty stuff. He puts it away and onward.

Eli motions for the others to wait while she sneak around to take a look, bow in hand. Unfortunately, darkness is still a problem. I need to find a way to get this girl some darkvision!
So instead, she says, "Light the way, little Liam, and we all go together then?"
Little Liam
"If no one is taking the rest of the vials, I will," Liam looks around for agreement, but will willingly concede to anyone that wants some also.
Moving forward into the room at Eli's direction, need line of sight to direct the lights into the room Liam directs the lights to what he considers a somewhat advantageous spot.
I will wait for the others and the DM to announce initiatives before taking any further actions.
GM Tarondor
Without the fire trap to warn them, the defenders of this last cavern are surprised by your appearance. They leap to their feet when your light approaches.
One kobold, larger than the others and wearing robes with mystical symbols, speaks.
"You think you can trespass in the lair of the Blood Vow Tribe with impunity? I am Roaghaz, and I serve the great Lord Aeteperax! He rewards his supplicants for ferocity and faithfulness. We shall add your bones to those hanging on these walls, and our great lord shall sup on your flesh!”
Again, a reference to supposedly long-dead Aeteperax.

Kobold sling v. Liam, with cover: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 3 - 4 = 21d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
The diminutive kobold warrior ducks as Thorny's glaive passes just over its scaly scalp, and then thrusts its own small spear at the warrior's groin. Spinning left, Thorny avoids the blow and the sling stone that follows on its heels.
Two other slingers hurl stones at Liam and Valena. A stone grazes Valena's chin, leaving a bad bruise.

Liam moves the dancing lights and tosses a recently acquired Alchemist's Fire at the northernmost kobold, arching it over Val.

GM needs to assess whether there is no penalty, or if Val constitutes cover for % roll chance to miss or assign a penalty on the throw = not in melee, but more than 10ft from an ally.

Eli will move into the room and launch an arrow at the southernmost kobold.

Kobold AoO: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 21d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
The elf's arrow slices into the kobold's throat and lodges in its spine. The tiny creature crumples to the ground, clutching at the arrow and coughs out its life's blood. One of its fellows lashes out at her, but Eliastra easily sidesteps the amateur attack.
The chief thursts out his clawed hands and twists them in Thorny's direction. "The grip of Vapula is at your throat, human!"
