Thaddeus will spread the Caltrops along the top of the stairs leading up to the top floor. So any tentacle dogs have to slog through muck and then through caltrops to get through there. And then he'll run back downstairs.

This is assuming nobody is on the top floor, of course.

Wth, my post yesterday must have been eaten or something. ANYWAYS.

The creatures begin to break in through the windows! Fiona and Mutt both swing, killing one instantly as they were more than ready for this.

Worryingly, the tower shakes under the weight of the mass of creatures climbing up along its north face! The floor sways beneath you all as you attempt to keep control of the situation. The window that Variel and Gunryn were shooting out of fills as a creature starts to climbg through into the room.

Everyone must make a DC 10 acrobatics check or fall prone! And everyone is up. There are two open windows on your floor. One has a creature climbing in it, the other is currently open but another will be in next round.

Variel manages to keep his legs under him as the tower shakes. Cursing, he shouts, "This building wasn't designed to be swarmed like this! Have a care, everyone!"

With a creature directly in front of him, the elf holds his bow in is left hand while drawing his sword in his right. Uttering a prayer, he swings at the creature, hoping to stop it from entering.

Swift action to start Judgment (Protection, +1 AC). Move to draw, standard to attack.

"Whoa!" Thaddeus nearly loses his balance, but is able to brace himself against a nearby wall.

"Think it might be time t'vacate th'premises! 'Dis tower ain't as stable as we thought!"

MOVE: Hoping the muck and caltrops will keep any dogs from progressing down from the top too quickly, Thaddeus runs down the tower, drawing his dagger.

Old Horn stumbles, but is able to maintain his footing. Deciding that his partner has the right idea, he begins making his way to the ground floor. However, he feels a slight kinship with the only other quadruped in the group, and so attempts to get Mule to follow him.

Old Horn will head to the first floor, though he'll attempt to get Mule to come along. If you'd like, I could have Old Horn roll an untrained Handle Animal check.

Fiona goes flying while Thaddeus rushes downstairs with Old Horn and Mule. To his dismay. The cyphermages are all pressed up against the bottom door, keeping it closed as a solid mass of creatures hammer against the door. Outside, peeking through the cracks of the shutters, more of the creatures are swarming around.

Grunyn: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

The creature crawling through the window is quickly killed by Mutt and Variel while Gunryn draws his longhammer weapon and Fiona readies an attack. A creature manages to leap through the window, and pounces at mega-Mutt, biting him on the arm.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Another creature leaps through the window at Fiona, taking a hammer to the face, preventing it from biting her.

Thaddeus, on the second floor, sees the shutter beside him shake and burst as a creature leaps in to his room!

The tower continues to shake rapidly, and a terrible noise, like thunder becomes louder than any other sound of combat. The tower suddenly shifts beneath your feet, and as it stabilizes it becomes clear that the tower is now leaning precariously to the south!

Mutt takes 4 damage. Everyone must make a DC 15 acrobatics check or fall prone. Two creatures on the top floor, one creature on the second floor with Thaddeus and the animals.

As the floor lurches, Variel tumbles to the ground. He carefully picks himself up and tries to get to one of the beasts.

If a creature is within a 5' step, Variel will stand, step, and attack. If not, he will stand and ready an attack for when one moves up to attack.

Wow! Wasn't expecting to make that one.

"WHOOAA!"

Thaddeus nearly loses his balance as the tower shakes and tips some more, but is somehow able to maintain his footing, precarious it may be.

Unfortunately, this does little to improve his situation, as one of the strange tentacle dogs leaps through a window into his room. The situation may work to his advantage, though, as he horks his magically-reinforced loogie at the monster. With luck, not only will it be stuck, but it should block the way, impeding any other monsters that try to get in.

STANDARD: Spit Adhesive Spittle at the dog. Automatically entangled, DC 15 to avoid being pinned.

MOVE: Head downstairs, possibly provoking.

Thaddeus is a bit dismayed seeing the remaining mages holding the door closed, and that many of the strange beasts are still attempting to get in the old fashioned way. Jump out and get swarmed, or stay inside and join the tower as it falls.

This was not a good situation to be in.

But within his mind, inspiration strikes. Though first...

"EVERYONE GET DOWN 'ERE, NOW! AH GOT A PLAN!"

Old Horn Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Old Horn slips, but quickly rights himself, wasting no time in taking advantage of the opening made by Thaddeus distracting the one beast on their floor to head down, continuing to encourage Mule to follow.

Thaddeus spits a wad of sticky goo on the silent blue creature, which eerily struggles again and again against the adhesive.

Two floors up, the group hears Thaddeus call for everyone to head downstairs while Variel dispatches a wounded creature.

Old Horn's Handle Animal: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (3) - 3 = 0

Thaddeus and Old Horn charge down to the main floor which is crowded with Cyphermages trying to keep the door shut as the creatures hammer against it. Mule refuses to move, being terrified of the creature.

"If you hvea any ideas I'm all ears!" calls Samaritha.

Thaddeus does notice the creatures seem to have no interest in Old Horn and Mule. They seem to only want the humanoids.

Mutt, Fiona, and Grunyn are up! One creature on second floor, one on the top now. Assume you can attack it.

Sorry for the late post, turns out moving is hard!

Mutt destroys a creature with his enormous axe, its strange yellowish blood spattering on the ground. Grunyn readies an attack as more of the creatures pile in. On the top floor, two leap through the window while another jumps into the second floor, just as Fiona arrives.

More and more of the creatures pile onto the tower the terrible, endless thundering noise grows louder by the minute. The creatures piling into the rooms look ready to attack, but then... the ground gives way.

CCCRRRRAAASSSSHHHH

Your world goes topsy-turvy as the stone tower topples onto its side, taking a good chunk of stone foundation with it, trapping Thaddeus and the Cyphermages in with the rest of the group. The wall becomes the floor and you're all thrown violently against it, along with the creatures which you now find yourselves uncomfortably close to.

Mutt, Variel, Gunryn: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 3) = 9
Fiona Falling Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
Thaddeus Falling Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Everyone takes the above damage! Reflex DC 10 to knock off the first 1d6. The tower has now collapsed onto its side and is rolling down a sleep slope towards the lagoon.

Whoops, I misread the rules on the tower scene. You have to react to the event before you try a check, and sometimes you don't get to pick which. However, since Fiona is in a stairwell I'll give you the brace regardless for this round - just makes sense.

Mutt is shocked as the tower shakes even more. That's when it collapses and starts rolling. Mutt screams and begins rolling around. He tries to see if he can brace himself to prevent more damage.

Reflex Save (heroism, enlarge person): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Unfortunately, it doesn't seems to work and he continues rolling around. He does have an idea. He yells out, "This isn't good! We're all going to get seriously hurt! Maybe I can try to use my bigger size to grab you guys and get you to safety!"

Can I start grabbing the others and try to get out? Maybe have some of them clinging to my back or in my backpack? Downside is that I only have 5 rounds left. So if it wears off, then we might be in more trouble.

Sorry guys, edited my post in response to Fiona and now we're just more confusing. What's going to happen is an event will occur, and you will be given a choice of actions to respond to it. You can attempt a different action such as casting a spell or doing something clever instead - I'll arbitrate as I see fit.

Thaddeus' Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Gunryn's Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Variel's Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Thaddeus and Variel manage to avoid the worst of the damage while Gunrny is battered about by the falling watchtower. As it crashes onto its side, it begins to roll rapidly! Inside, the creatures tumble around with you while on the outside they fly in all directions, killed or crushed by the falling tower.

The stairwell flips out from under you as the tower starts to roll rapidly. Although there are no obvious exits nearby, you can brace yourself to prevent damage, and climb to an exit next round!

You fly against the tower wall, desperately scrambling to get away from an akata and Mutt's incredible girth. However, a crack opens up in the tower near you as stone crumbles away to show the slope racing past, you have a chance to escape!

You take 6 damage from the fall. Make a DC 15 jump check to get out through the crack. If you do not want to escape, make a DC 15 acrobatics check to 'ride' the tower by running along the wall. Failure of either check means 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7 damage.

Mutt
=====

You flop against the side of the tower but recover quickly and find yourself running along the base of it. There doesn't appear to be an easy means of escape, but you can continue to run along the base of the tower.

50%: 1d2 ⇒ 2

Make a DC 15 acrobatics check to keep riding the tower or take 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10 damage!

In the room crammed with Cyphermages, you are all flung against the side of the tower. Up above you hear Old Horn and Mule complaining loudly about their predicament. Unfortunatey, you're in no position to help as the tower starts rolling.

You take no damage from the fall. Make a DC 15 acrobatics check to keep riding the tower or take 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3 damage!

You crash into the stairwell and manage to hold still. One of the blue creatures is near you, desperately trying to keep its footing as the tower rolls, and you can attack!

You take 9 damage from the fall. You can make an attack roll against a creature!

Thaddeus was about ready to unsling his pack. He alredy had one shoulder off, ready to procure what he needed for his cunning plan, and then...

Thaddeus is rocked around, barely able to react to the situation, not even entirely sure what is happening

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Somehow, he is able to keep his balance, and begins running on the wall of the tower as it rolls.

So much for his big plan. For now, all he can do is worry about the immediate. He looks around for a window, and tries to figure out how easily it would be to slip through it.

Thaddeus doesn't leap out yet, thoug he does look for any openings that, in theory, he could slip through to get out of the tower.

Old Horn Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Old Horn is similarly able to maintain his footing, and begins running as well, trying to make his way into the room with Thaddeus. If they're going down, they're going down together.

...but she gets thrown down again by the violent rolling. She feels blood trickling from the back of her head and soaking into her hair as she starts clawing madly for an exit.

So 3.5 to Pathfinder conversion issue: Jump is now rolled into Acrobatics, so that's the same skill ... and not a good one for Variel.

He tries to run along the rolling wall (Acrobatics: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10) but just isn't nimble enough.

9 damage from initial fall, 6 more when the rolling started, and 7 for failing to ride the tower. That's 22 total, less 2 for fast healing. Variel is now at 4/24 hit points.

Variel is battered about brutally by the rolling tower, flying about in all directions. Mutt joins him as he he crahses into the side of the wall as well. Gunryn manages to plant his feet and swing out his hammer, instantly killing one of the creatures.

You manage to find your feet and start running with the tower. As you run, you come near a stairwell and can grab on to brace yourself.

Variel

A loud rumbling sound cracks through the tower, and part of hte wall crumbles near you, allowing you escape from the tower!

You can escape the tower! If you would prefer to stay in, make a DC 12 reflex save to remain in the tower.

Mutt

You see Gunryn rush by you, allowing you to make a grab at him to stabilize him.

Make a DC 12 strength check. Success means that Gunryn gets a +$ to his roll! YOu are automatically braced for next round (+4 to your next climb or acrobatics check)

Thaddeus

You find yourself thrust against a bed nailed to the wall, enough for you to hold on to. YOu also hear a crumbling sound from up above and a *BEEAAAHHHH* as Old Horn and Mule both fall out of the tower to tumble down the cliff side!

Make a DC 10 climb check, success means you brace. Failure means 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7 damage.

Fiona

As you fly around in the tower, a small crack opens up near you, allowing you a chance to leap out!

Thaddeus, on instinct, tries to grab on to a bed, but it does little as he bounces against everything hard except the bed itself.

Either way, Thaddeus finally seems to realize his presence in this giant stone roller is doing nobody any good. Time to get the heck out of here.

Variel sees a chance and takes it. He dives out of the tower and rolls, getting clear of the deathtrap. As he comes to a rolling stop, he watches wistfully as his very expensive gear continues on to what is likely to be an ignominious end.

Then, remembering how this all started, he looks around for signs of the Cyphermages or the monsters that attacked, and realizes he is completely unarmed now.

Since this technically isn't "combat", does Variel's Judgment end? If not, he will heal 2hp a round until the combat is considered over.

Mutt takes serious damage as he gets slammed into the wall. He sees Grunyn rolling around. He tries to make a grab at him.

Variel's judgement ends after he's out of the tower as he's no longer in danger from anything in combat.

Gunryn's Climb: 1d20 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (3) - 2 + 4 = 5

Mutt grabs a hold of Gunryn, but he loses his grip on the heavy dwarf, who goes bouncing around the tower for one more turn.

Variel flies out of the tower, coming to a rough stop. HE clings to a root sticking out of the side of the cliff, his entire body straining with effort. Old Horn, who fell out early, gimps and decides whether or not to bite the hand. Mule is in rough shape but alive.

A good dozen of the creatures are well below Variel, and sliding rapidly with a rockslide into the lagoon. As they hit the salt water, something curious happens. They start writhing in freakish, silent agony as their bodies dissolve in the liquid. Within seconds, they are gone. Then a tower falls on them.

Back in the Tower

Thaddeus looks worriedly as most of the cyphermages have been battered to unconsciousness. Samaritha has managed to cast a featherfall spell, which keeps her from flying too violently into the side of the tower. Fiona remains a floor up, almost in tears at her failed attempt to escape through the side of the tower. One floor above, Mutt clings onto the stairwell, his enormous, magically-enhanced bulk bouncing from wall to wall as Gunryn flies all over the place.

SPLASH!

The tower comes to an abrupt stop as it hits the lagoon, and everyone flies one more time against the side of the tower.

Damage (Acrobatics DC 15 negates): 1d6 ⇒ 5

The tower goes straight, and its far heavier bottom half with the attached bit of foundation rotates it so it stands up strangely as it rapidly starts to sink. Water begins pouring in from all directions on the bottom floor, and just as quickly, the second. At the beach, several akata are seen writhing in pain as they are dissolved by the salt water. Variel clings to a cliff face with Old Horn standing peacefully beside him.

Everyone except Variel takes 5 damage unless they make an acrobatics check. Thaddeus needs to make a DC 10 swim check to get out of the bottom floor. Mutt and Gunryn are not in immediate danger. Fiona can either dive out the crack on her floor, or head up to the top floor to avoid the water.

Fiona is violently thrown against the wall of the tower as it finally comes to a stop.

She rubs the back of her head and winces when she feels how wet with blood it is. "...owww...ancestors, why do you hate me so? Did I do something to anger you?"

She doesn't ponder the question for long. As the bottom floor of the tower floods with seawater, she wearily picks herself up and looks down at the rapidly sinking bottom floor. "THADDEUS! SAMARITHA! Do you need some help?"

How many mages are there on the ground floor? I believe there are six mages overall, including Samaritha. How many are on this floor, and how many are conscious? I think my action should work either way, but I may need to change it depending on the info given.

Thaddeus contemplates that while he was expecting to lead a more exciting life when he left the farm, being in a tower as it collapsed, rolled down a hill, and was now sinking in a lagoon was not what he was expecting... At all.

The water rapidly pours in. With what little open air remains, Thaddeus shouts at Samaritha and any other conscious mages:

"GRAB WHO YOU CAN! IF MAH SPELL WORKS, TAKE 'EM 'N GET OUT!"

At around this point, the water goes over his head. Thaddeus quickly grabs one unconscious mage, and then concentrates on the spell he has in mind. And here he thought that this spell was going to be useless as soon as they got off the boat.

That is, assuming he can pull this off.

I cast Buoyancy. I have four targets. Me, Samaritha, and preferrably two other conscious mages. Failing that, I'll pick some unconscious mages. Note that Buoyancy is an immediate action to cast.
Concentration, DC 17. (15+2nd lvl spell.)
Bonuses to Concentration: +4 (lvl) +4 (Int.) +1 (Trait)

Concentration: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Whew!

He hoists the unmoving body of the mage he was holding on to, and now decides how best to get out of this tower, while floating against the roof.

If the door looks easily openable, or already opened, Thaddeus will pull himself towards those. If not, he'll move towards any windows or holes in the wall that look large enough to easily get through. If that fails, he'll head for the stairs.

He'll also pull along a buoyant, unconscious mage if there were more mages unconscious than could be picked up.

Handy!

Fiona rushes to the top floor as Thaddeus works a bit of his hillbilly magic. Samaritha is still conscious, having used a feather fall spell. Three of the mages are a bloody mess and likely dead, one is not bleeding but appears unconscious in the water, one is conscious, and Samaritha is fine having used a featherfall spell.

Thaddeus quickly snaps off several buoyancy spells, and as people become light rather than deadweight in the water, he can pull them to the large cracks in the wall. Soon, Thaddeus, Samaritha, and two cyphermages pop above the surface of the lagoon.

Getting back to the shore is a bit of a problem, but thanks to the few moment's left on Mutt's enlarge person spell, he's able to piggyback Gunryn and Fiona through the water, and simply walk to shore.

Variel, clinging to the cliff face, manages to scrabble down very slowly to join everyone.

The group of you, along with Samaritha and now two cyphermages are at the base of a cliff against a short rock beach overlooking the lagoon. There's no real path back. The options are to head up the cliff, or swim.

Once back on shore, Samaritha collapses, burying her face in her hands as her companions just lie, staring blankly at the sky.

"I hate this place I hate this place I hate this place..."

Variel casts a spell to heal some of the bashing he took, then carefully makes his way down to the rest. Once those who survived are settled, he attempts to determine if there is any way to recover gear and equipment from the fallen tower.

Take 10 for 24 perception to find his whip, sword, or shield, as well as anything else anyone may have lost.

Mutt manages to avoid any further damage. He breaches the surface of the water, gasping for breath. He picks up Grunyn and Fiona and carries them to the shore. When he's there, he collapses to his knees and pants. "Okay. In the future, let's not do that again." Seeing Variel looking around, Mutt decides to aid him, checking for his own equipment. Maybe the rest of his spell could be used to move parts of the tower to get to some of the stuff that was lost.

Perception (aid another): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Thankfully, none of the group lost any gear during the tumble that the tower took. It remained remarkably intact aside from the crack Variel leapt through, and it's stationary enough in the lagoon for now. A few trips out to it and all items are accounted for.

Samaritha crouches by the water, staring into it thoughtfully.

"They burned up when they hit the water. It was like acid. I saw one last one of them die. Perhaps those of us that remain can stay by the pier. Wade out into the water, and they're no longer a threat..."

She looks to the rest of you.

"I understand you're here with a purpose. We're dying off quickly. Let's get off of this beach, I have a levitation spell I can cast on some of us - maybe we can get some rope down or something. The mages and I can make for the pier and you can continue on your mission."

Mutt looks at Samaritha. "So, water is their weakness? At least they won't get off of the island then." When Thaddeus asks about his bite wound, the bloodrager turns his head to look at it better. "Yeah. One of them did bite me. I feel fine, though." He then goes and wades in the water, seeing that he can wash it off per Thaddeus's suggestion.

Mutt watches as Fiona climbs up the cliff face. He then sees if he can climb up it himself. He turns to the others. "I think I can make myself giant again. Some of you can hold on while I climb the cliff."

Samaritha chants her levitate spell, and her feet rise from the ground. She keeps a hand on the cliff, the other holding a rope before she finally rises to the top. Mule is found at the top of the cliff, looking battered and miserable while Old Horn scampers up with no issue being a goat and all.

The rope gets lowered down to the group, and soon you all find yourselves back at the top of the cliff after taking a long time to properly climb up while bracing against the cliff.

Samaritha embraces each of you. The usually cheerful, vibrant wizard is morose, in pain, and exhausted.
