Do we want to return him to the town. Any ideas on getting him down the cliff?

LG Male Human Monk 1 | HP 10/13 | AC 14 | CMD 17 | F +3 R +3 W +4 | Init +5 | Per +6

Samy, what would be the additional DC to a climb check to carry him down? We found a DC5 route up, so could we carry him back down for a similar DC?

Liberty's Edge

Female Human Commoner 1

Let's say about +5 DC extra.

LG Male Human Monk 1 | HP 10/13 | AC 14 | CMD 17 | F +3 R +3 W +4 | Init +5 | Per +6

I have +7 to climb so am happy to carry him down. The chances of failing are low. But I don't want to be hogging the actions either. If anyone wants to then I am happy for that, otherwise I can carry him down.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 1 | HP 11/15 | AC 18 | CMD 15 | F +7, R +2, W +1| Init +2 | Per +5

I think that is good. We could also lower him with rope. I would suggest some of the party going down first to help. Lets just do it.

NG Male Human Rogue 1 | HP 12/12 | AC 14 | CMD 12 | F +3, R +3, W +3 | Init +3 | Per +1

Petian puts away his crossbow and approaches the group.
That sounds like a good plan gentlemen, however his yelling may become a problem. I am sure we will not be the only creatures traveling tonight, and his screams could attract unwanted attention.

LG Male Human Monk 1 | HP 10/13 | AC 14 | CMD 17 | F +3 R +3 W +4 | Init +5 | Per +6

I could.... knock him out?

just kidding :P

Im going to try and dress his wounds so that he is stabilized.

Can I take 20 on his heal check? I have a +5 to heal. If not, can I take 10?

Liberty's Edge

Female Human Commoner 1

The driver is stable in the game mechanical sense that he is not in the process of losing hit points and dying. You can however use heal to "treat deadly wounds", which will improve his condition slightly. Take 20 cannot be taken for that since it can only be done once per day, and Take 20 represents trying multiple times until you "get it right". You can, however, Take 10, although that would not help with a +5 modifier because the DC for treating deadly wounds is 20. You'd be better off rolling and trying to get 15 or above.

Male Human Paladin/1 ~initiative +0 ~hp 13/13 ~Perception +1~Diplomacy +8~Ac 17~Fort 5~Ref 0~Will 3 ~CMD 14 ~CMB 4

ok i will "treat deadly wounds" to try and make him feel better.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

how did i know that was going to happen?

Male Dwarf Barbarian 1 | HP 11/15 | AC 18 | CMD 15 | F +7, R +2, W +1| Init +2 | Per +5

I too can heal...

Will it work for me to try?

treat deadly wounds: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Maybe we should TRY to knock him out. That might make him feel better.

I do have some ale, would that quiet him down?

NG Male Human Rogue 1 | HP 12/12 | AC 14 | CMD 12 | F +3, R +3, W +3 | Init +3 | Per +1

Whatever we do, we should do it quickly. I do not feel comfortable spending much more time in this camp.

You don't know without trying. :) Shall I read that as you try to give some to him and see what happens?

LG Male Human Monk 1 | HP 10/13 | AC 14 | CMD 17 | F +3 R +3 W +4 | Init +5 | Per +6

I have nothing in my bags that would calm him. The ale may do the trick, or maybe there are some herbs around here that could help. I know nothing of herbalism though

Male Dwarf Barbarian 1 | HP 11/15 | AC 18 | CMD 15 | F +7, R +2, W +1| Init +2 | Per +5

Might quiet me down :)

Would you like some drink? We are going to tie you up to carry you out of here, OK? To the party: Regardless, I agree, we need to leave quickly.

Perception DC 20:
You spot a crack in the ground near the camp. It looks like it might open into a tunnel descending downward. If it has an opening on the other, lower, end, it might provide an alternate route back down to the base of the waterfall.

The driver drinks the ale with some urging, and maybe quiets down a a little bit, although there is still whimpering most of the time and the occasional muffled moans, and every now and then, a wailing scream just when you think he's quieted down, so it's really annoying when he yells just when you least expect it.

It looks like there is an easier way down over here....

To our "driver": I am going to help carry you down to the carriage.

To the rest: [b] Can someone help me carry him? [b]

LG Male Human Monk 1 | HP 10/13 | AC 14 | CMD 17 | F +3 R +3 W +4 | Init +5 | Per +6

We are unsure if there may be creatures or worse lurking in that tunnel. Perhaps someone would like to sneak down there and check before we dive headlong into another pack of goblins.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 1 | HP 11/15 | AC 18 | CMD 15 | F +7, R +2, W +1| Init +2 | Per +5

A good suggestion. Who wants to check? Lets get figured out how we are headed down and do it before the night gets any later. I will carry the driver, with help, either down the tunnel or down the cliff. Who feels sneaky? We should send a couple down the tunnel for safety, so that no one is alone. And to make sure it gets us where we need to go. You are correct, Adokul, my apologies it is getting late and I am anxious to get moving.

NG Male Human Rogue 1 | HP 12/12 | AC 14 | CMD 12 | F +3, R +3, W +3 | Init +3 | Per +1

I'm feeling sneaky, although I have learned quite quickly that my dagger is useless in close quarter combat. Just tell me which direction I am scouting, I vote for the tunnel.

You two check the tunnel. The rest of us will stay with the driver.

Stealth vs Petian's Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Petian and Tomak make their way into the tunnel. They will have to use some sort of light source, of course -- either they have a lantern, or it will also be trivial to grab a torch from the goblins' campfire. The tunnel seems to definitely lead downward with a relatively easy slope, although there are places where you will need to use your hands on the wet, slimy rock to steady yourself while descending. As you get lower and lower, the sound of the waterfall's thunder gets imminently closer, until finally Petian and Tomak see a veil of falling water ahead, signifying a ground level exit. The two of them may return at will back up to relay this information to the rest of the group.

LN Male Human Fighter 1 | HP 4/12 | AC 16 | CMD 16 | F +4 R +2 W +1 | Init +6 | Per +1

Missed a few posts looks like we got through that combat there.

Tulle stands guard, keeping his shield and hammer at the ready. Covering the rear of the group as they progress towards the tunnel.

Never can be too careful. We made a bunch of noise and a second band of baddies could be on their way. Stay vigilant.

Male Human Paladin/1 ~initiative +0 ~hp 13/13 ~Perception +1~Diplomacy +8~Ac 17~Fort 5~Ref 0~Will 3 ~CMD 14 ~CMB 4

Tomak looks through the veil of water and tries to find a path from out behind the waterfall, as stealthily as paladins can.

Let us proceed cautiously

Tomak gestures towards the opening.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 1 | HP 11/15 | AC 18 | CMD 15 | F +7, R +2, W +1| Init +2 | Per +5

I will carry the driver when they return. Tulle and Adokul will provide protection from the rear and Tomak and Petian will lead, does that work for everyone?

What sort of rolls will I need to make to carry him through the tunnel?

NG Male Human Rogue 1 | HP 12/12 | AC 14 | CMD 12 | F +3, R +3, W +3 | Init +3 | Per +1

Agreed
Then following Tomaks gesture, slowly follows the path through the waterfall to see where it leads.

Do I need to make another stealth check?

LG Male Human Monk 1 | HP 10/13 | AC 14 | CMD 17 | F +3 R +3 W +4 | Init +5 | Per +6

That idea sounds acceptable to me

Axlem doesn't need to make any rolls. The alcohol given to the driver seems to gradually take effect, sedating him a little bit. Together with the blood loss he has no doubt incurred from the removed legs, the inebriation starts to make the poor man doze off a little, so while he's a bit heavy, he's not exceedingly difficult to carry. Axlem can't participate in combat while carrying the guy, however.

You lower yourself down into the crack in the ground, bracing yourself against the walls and scooting lower and lower until you find solid footing and a tunnel opens around you. It's fairly cramped and you need to take care so you don't cut yourself on the sharp jagged rock all around. But it's a decently easy slope downwards and arguably a better way to go than rappelling down the side of the waterfall.

Everyone may make Perception checks while you're in the tunnel.

I know the feeling...

Liberty's Edge

Female Human Commoner 1

You make your way through the cobweb-thick passage, brushing the webs from your faces as you descend through the hole in the earth, steadily descending lower and lower until you can see the falling water ahead of you. The tunnel widens into a larger chamber, the floor a shin-deep pool of water where you have to walk carefully because the rocky bottom of the pool is slick and slippery. Just as the first of you are about to step through the curtain of water and out into the open air outside, you are attacked.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Despite some *excellent* rolls by Adokul, Tulle and Petian, the enemy is even quieter than their sharp ears managed to pick out, and it gets one surprise attack in before the battle begins. Lying in wait in the ceiling of the pool chamber, a huge spider the size of a large dog or pig suddenly drops down into the middle of your group, and lashes out with its mandibles in a vicious bite at...

1d5 in alphabetical order: 1d5 ⇒ 4 Tomak!

Surprise Bite vs Tomak: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 However, Tomak's armor is tough enough to withstand the bite, preventing any injury.

Spider Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Roll your initiatives and post your first actions. Those who roll better initiative than the spider, their actions take place before the spider's following attack:

Bite vs Tomak again: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 Still protected by armor.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 1 | HP 11/15 | AC 18 | CMD 15 | F +7, R +2, W +1| Init +2 | Per +5

I assume that I have to do something with our guest. SO when I can attack, here are my rolls:

INIT: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
damage: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 **** This should have been 1d10+4, so would that just be 14 damage?

NG Male Human Rogue 1 | HP 12/12 | AC 14 | CMD 12 | F +3, R +3, W +3 | Init +3 | Per +1

Gods, why does everything in this area want to kill us.
As he says this, Petian pulls out his crossbow and shoots a bolt at the spider.

INIT: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Liberty's Edge

Sure Axlem, we can halve that instead of wasting your good roll. :) Since you rolled so high, I'll say that you spend your action before the spider putting the guy down, and then your action after the spider's last bite attacking.

flurry of blows 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

flurry of blows 2 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Axlem's titanic blow leaves the giant spider teetering on the last slivers of its health, enough for Adokul to finish it off with a sharp cracking blow.

That was fast. Combat is over. Dead giant spider at your feet. Nice waterfall curtain. You can see moonlight on the other side.

I am in agreement Axlem, I am looking forward to a nice comfy bed at the local inn. However should we not attempt to scavenge anything of value from this beast?
