Gilstrom Noblewater |
Gilstrom nods hurriedly. "Lost treasures! Look, I'm pretty sure Persephone can outrun any undead octopus nonsense. We should take a look first - pleaaasseee? Maybe the amazing artifacts hidden in those drowned huts will unlock the secret of uh... whatever happened to this place."
Gervase Goldhawk |
“OK, maybe something was left behind in the flooded buildings. Let’s go take a look.”
Gervase glances between both buildings from the party’s Cliffside perch. “I’m thinking the one inside the breakwater first.”
“And I dunno about undead sea critters. I was thinking Ulfen aquatic ghouls and the like. But I reckon we’re gonna find out.”
Gilstrom Noblewater |
"Dolphins are immune to ghoul paralysis, right? I think it's dolphins."
Gilstrom lets out a piercing whistle as he heads down to the water's edge and calls Persephone.
Uh, Lily, Arcilde, get ready to blast any ghoulish octopus that try to eat us. Coming, Gervase?"
He snaps on his goggles and mounts Persephone before swimming close to the entrance of the northern building, looking for baddies and approaching with caution.
Gilstrom Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Persephoception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Note Persephone also has blindsense at 120'
GM Rinaldo |
Gilstrom, I need to have you show me on the map where you are mounting Persephone (or describe if you are doing it somewhere off the map), and then how you are approaching the building. Drawing me a path would be perfect.
Everyone else show me where you will be while Gilstrom and Persephone are doing this.
Arcilde |
'old up there a minute, Gilstrom. Arcilde asks Arqueros to aid Gilstrom, then moves to the edge of the water to be ready to help out if he needs it.
Giving Gilstrom the War blessing: For the next minute, select one of the following bonuses at the start of your turn each round:
+10 feet to base land speed
+1 dodge bonus to AC
+1 insight bonus on attack rolls
+1 luck bonus on saving throws
Each bonus selected lasts for 1 round.
Gervase Goldhawk |
"Dolphins are immune to ghoul paralysis, right? I think it's dolphins."
“Ghouls, yes. But if they’re ghasts, being a dolphin offers no protection.”
Gervase sheds her breastplate and tosses the mithral chemise over her head, before shimmying into it.
Drawing the Grindylow Queen’s spear she follows Gilstrom down to the beach, checking for threats as she goes. “Sledge, are you there?”
take 10 perception: 10 + 9 = 19
SLEDGE She points at her right foot HEEL
“Coming, Gervase?”
“You know I’ve always got your back, brother.”
Peering into the ruin inside the breakwater, the dive ranger suddenly stops to place a hand on the gnome’s shoulder. “I think we could use that stepping stone to enter the building without having to enter the water, Gilstrom.”
“I mean if you’re getting on Persephone, no worries. It’s just another option.”
Gilstrom Noblewater |
Gilstrom thinks for a minute before agreeing. "Fiine. I never get to ride my dolphin, but that makes sense. Also thanks Arcilde! Your God nobody has ever heard of is neat - let me know if you have any reading material."
Gilstrom takes a moment to channel "the voice" and he begins clicking and whistling to Persephone to give her some complex commands.
"EEEK EEK scccrrrrrr clickityclickity"
"Come up to the edge of the rocks and keep an eye out for danger!"
Persephone will patrol near the edge of the rocks while Gilstrom walks across the stepping stone to get into the building.

With Aqueros' blessing, Gilstrom makes his way down the slope, followed closely by Gervase. The two call to their companions, who begin moving toward you. Suddenly Persephone breaches and lets out a shrill call. "EEEK EEEEEEK EEK clickityEEEK!" Sledge swims in a circle and is clearly upset as well.

Round 1
==============
Gilstrom and Arcilde failed the Perception check and won't act in the surprise round. Persephone and Sledge used their surprise round to "shout out a warning" as best they can. Thankfully, Gilstrom understands Persephone currently, even though he can't react. Gervase made her Perception, so may act what she noticed. Lily made her Perception, but is not in the effect that Gervase is in; she can act in the surprise round, but doesn't have the information Gervase does, she just knows something is off and the animals are acting strangely.
I've moved Sledge and Persephone up to 10' off the map, which is where they started acting weird. I've backed Gilstrom up to just before he stepped out onto the stepping stone, and Gervase just behind him.
Gervase and Lily can take a single action!

Round #0: AC 17
“Look there, to the left! NO, the other left, Gilstrom!”
Gervase’s jabs her left index finger rapidly. “The water’s churning like a gale’s a-blowing.”
The ranger raises the enchanted spear in her right fist ready to skewer an enemy that presents itself to her in melee or at range. (readied standard action)

“What the heck is going on? The animals are going cra-cra.”
Gervase turns an anxious face to her companions. “Could it be a haunt, Arcilde?”
“Gilstrom, what is Persephone saying?”
Gilstrom Noblewater |
Wielding the shield and trident it's hard for Gilstrom to grab his throat but his eyes bulge out and he clearly begins to panic. "Gahhh! Persephone says she sees something bad in the water but... gah! I'm drowning! I can't breathe!"
Gilstrom backs off from the stone, trying to find his breath.
He quickly clicks out at Persephone. "Are there one or many?! What do they look like?"
Just moving 10' back.
