This is Fighting Chicken's submission, the spiritualist Arruk Karras. Fluff and crunch are in the profile. I'll refine the background a bit tomorrow, and get appearance up then, but I wanted to get something in before the 1st.

Thank you for the consideration, and good luck, everyone!

This is Torivor's submission.

Background:

In character with the AP this is some minimal info:

Prior to waking up in the Asylum, Mirsoth, formerly Mirsothgren the Magnificent, was a young adult red dragon. As a dragon Mirsoth was as evil as any aspiring red dragon, though perhaps slightly more manipulative than most. When he awakens, he feels a very distinct feeling of bitter, bitter loss, but is not entirely sure for what reason. Though Mirsoth is physically capable and has somewhat retained his draconic tongue, almost all the rest of his power and mental ability has been locked away.

Mirsoth retained much of his personality, not the least part of which is his pride, though this process has mellowed him out quite a bit, changing his alignment from CE to CN.

I will make no attempt to cheese some wish spells to permanently revert Mirsoth into a dragon.

Character Advancement:

As I'm sure you've noticed, Mirsoth's build is by no means an optimized one, and I've gone strongly in the direction of flavor vs power, focusing more on Mirsoth's physical ability rather than his spell casting, unorthodox as it may be. I plan to have Mirsoth begin taking levels of Dragon Disciple around 7th or 8th level. Feats I will likely choose before then include combat casting, blind fight, Power Attack, and Extra Meta word. His fighting style will be one of burn melee opponents, then get in the face of spell casters and shred them.

Personality wise, Mirsoth will continue to mellow so long as he does not go insane, eventually becoming CG. Coming to accept his humanity, he will have to learn to be human, and the battle within him to manipulate and destroy or to tend towards human altruism will be fun to role play.

Adding further intrigue to this, Mirsoth will gain a bonded item at 3rd level (I'm thinking a necklace or similar, but I think it would be cool if this item were found as part of Mirsoth's journey to discover who he was before being committed to the Asylum, so I'll need your help there.) As he enchants the bonded item per the bonded item enchantment rules, it will become intelligent, having an extremely CE personality. Mirsoth's old personality, to be exact. I think the flavor and role playing opportunities for this would be fantastic! It wouldn't really come into play until later levels, but still, the ego battles...

PbP Sample

My character was Raj Ajir in that campaign.
Thanks for considering this submission to what promises to be a fantastic game!

Just a quick check-in to confirm that I am still interested.

Pathfinder Adventure, Adventure Path Subscriber

Still interested as well, though had no comment on my submission yet, which makes me a bit sad . :-(

I'm withdrawing my quasi-submission of Dr. Cawthorne due to my acceptance in two other PbPs, which will pretty much fill my free time. Good luck to everybody here - I hope this game gets off the ground and soars to the heights of madness!

Still here... Still fighting against the madness from beyond the stars that lurks within this monster's soul. That ecstatic, horrific, rage...

Don't know if recruitment is still open, but submitting Haroldin.

Also still here...

Scarab Sages

I'm still here, but I need my earlier questions clarified before I make a character.

And no idea if this is still open(I did screen quickly...if there was a date given beyond "around 1st", I seem to have missed it).
But if it's still open, I would like to submit something tomorrow.
(Thinking a Desnian Warpriest opting for Startoss Style)
Dotting now(just in case you close it in the next 24 hours and "in before"-people still get to finish submissions...)

Interested if this is still open. I'm thinking of a Aberrant Bloodrager, who wakes up not with the changes to him being new. Somehow, alien DNA has been injected into him and as the AP goes on, it takes over more and more of him (i.e. gaining powers). In this way, he's not gaining skill so much as the alien body is taking over. He'd be searching for answers as it consumes him.

It's a concept that I'd work closely with the GM with, since it has the capacity to tie closely into story. I'd still be leveling him and choosing feats, but in the story these would just be further manifestations of his alien DNA. Maybe he would learn to control them, and maybe not.

Still here as well.

Was going to add the following, but then the site crashed.

Is Pact Magic okay? If so, is SmiloDan's Pathfinder-ized Binder okay?

Is Akashic Mysteries veilweaving material (AKA Pathfinder-ized Incarnum) okay?

Is SmiloDan's Pathfinder-ized Warlock okay?

Could I submit homebrewed Vestiges/Invocations for possible approval?

*Reads, then pauses* ...Did you know that Pact Magic has been fully updated for Pathfinder?

Scarab Sages

I'm aware of Dario Nardi's stuff, if that's what you mean. I don't like it.

This will be my(MordredofFairy) submission. Re-using the profile from a dead campaign, so can post with it.

Still working on the backstory, but the general jist is that he's a dwarf left home looking for the freedom to find his own way in life, turned merchant(militant one, too...if the area is dangerous, there's more profit to be had...), and ended up in Ustalav, with no idea what happened in the past couple years.

Wow quite some applications by now.
Is this even still going on?

Seems the GM posted in a few places yesterday. My guess is the holidays hit a tad harder than anticipated and he's working his way on getting caught back up.

Don't lose hope! :-P

2 people marked this as a favorite.

He DID say around 1st of January, shorter or longer depending on interest...and it seems interest spiked a bit after the holidays.

So...we'll just have to wait until...the stars are right! *ducks and flees*

Here's an attempt at my alien DNA Bloodrager. I'm happy to continue to develop the concept though.

I see Devon as a former soldier or guard. He left the service, but never amounted to much after that. He became a lay-about and a drunk mostly, occasionally doing the odd job, begging, or gambling to try and earn money. When he awakes from the fugue state, he really just thinks he went on a bad bender. But when he starts manifesting strange abilities, it's clear that someone has done something to him. The alien blood continues to get stronger no matter what he tries and it begins to take over his body, eventually changing its shape. He's going to try to find out who did this, why, and how he can reverse it.

The mind-swapped trait is just perfect. Devon will be a reach and AOO build. With his eventual enlarged arms, the long arm and enlarge person spells, and his lucerne hammer, he can easily get reach of 20 feet. I also see aberrant tumor as a strong possibility down the line. As far as the trait which would have been there in place of mind-swapped, perhaps something associated with his drinking like Fortified Drinker.

Ok my Occultist is pulling out, as I am about to start in another gme.

Many Thanks and I hope it is a great game.

Well, looks like we found a new GM, so... I'll pull out as well. XD Don't wanna run the same character in two games, after all.

Silver Crusade

Hi everyone!

As RePete guessed, it's taken a lot longer to get back to normal after the holidays than I expected, and frankly the sheer amount of interest in this has left me overwhelmed. I know I haven't answered many questions, but I'll be making selections this weekend. Selected applicants will be notified in their nightmares PMs.

If there are still mechanical issues to be resolved, don't worry about the details. Give me a backstory and we can work out the details from there.

Ah nice. Good to see you´re back^^

I have made some minor profile edits (Personality, Code of Conduct).

Welcome back Lari! Mirsoth needs some mechanical rework now that I've discovered the eldritch heritage feat, but at level 1 the only thing it will change is I'll have another spell known and a better will save. Will update soon.

Glad,you're back lari

Just saw this thread. Is it too late to submit a character?

Xerxzayas has known much violence in his life. He's been through raids by goblins and orcs, attacks by monsters like manticores and werewolves, rampages by giants and wayward demons, and incursions from devils and darklings. Each time he saw brave men and women through themselves into harm's way and die at the hands of creatures and beings far more powerful than themselves. They would die by the tens, the hundreds, and even the thousands.

Xerxzayas was determined to be one of those defenders, but he did not want to die. He had to become more than what he was if he was to survive. He had to find a way to surpass his human frailty. While he continued to train his body, he also trained his mind. In addition, he sough the counsel and advice of the wise and the learned. In alchemy, Xerxzayas believes he's found what he's looking for.

He wakes in a room. His memory about recent events... any events, really, are a bit hazy. This will not do at all!

This in mind, here is my (not 100%-complete) submission: Victor Von Blacksun, Changeling Warlock. I would like to use this version of the Warlock, save for the adjustment that its magic is based off Intelligence rather than Charisma.

Bit of a backstory (could use embellishment with more knowledge of the AP):
Born to an old Ustalavic noble family with a reputation for dark dalliances, Victor was a precocious child, less interested in learning the graces and duties of his station than in...well, almost anything else, but proving a particularly - even disquietingly - apt pupil for eldritch lore. As he grew older, his eccentricities (crippling obsessions, traumatic nightmares, unorthodox social views, and so forth) became both more pronounced and more disruptive, until at last he was deemed a danger to himself and others, and his family had him institutionalized.

Zin Z'arin wrote:

My submission is Yuyut Uppal, a Vudrani Perfect Scholar Monk of Irori, living and studying at the Open Palm of Shaheed in Qadira when his fugue state begins.

As a Perfect Scholar, he becomes a knowledge monkey and pretty quickly gains bonuses related to Ultimate Intrigue's Research rules. I'm taking the Focused Study alt-human trait to lean into the skill focus a little more heavily.

Originally from Katapesh, Yuyut has traveled all over the central parts of the Inner Sea in quest of dark knowledge. He's encountered hints about the Old Ones; ancient beings from the Dark Tapestry. Always just hints, background noise in works about other topics, but he's been starting to try to put together the pieces. Finding and assembling these pieces of knowledge has directed his travels, that have landed him most recently at the Open Palm of Shaheed in Qadira. Renowned among Irorians for its library; one of the monks there was said to know where a curious book that I can't remember; why, why can't I remember? was to be found.

The campaign trait I've chosen is Formerly Mind-Swapped. Mechanically, it works really well with the Knowledge monkey build, and I like the idea that his dark research led him to such an encounter with an other-worldly being (though he doesn't quite understand that yet). In addition, Formerly Mind-Swapped effectively "turns on" the Glimpse Beyond story feat, which requires a prior encounter with a high CR outsider.

** spoiler omitted **...

As you begin to make selections for this game, I wanted to expand a bit on Yuyut's background. I trust that we can work through any mechanical details if Yuyut is selected.

Yuyut is loosely inspired by the "Mad Arab" of Lovecraft's tales, though in-game his actual personality and development will be all new; I'm not trying to remake Abdul Alhazred in Pathfinder.

Original submission with Crunch & Projected Advancement

Background:
Yuyut began his life—as early as he can remember, anyway—as a street urchin in Katapesh. It's not that he didn't have a family—everyone who grows up in the markets and alleys of Katapesh is all one family in a sense—but he didn't have a home that he went to every night. And he wouldn't be able to tell you which of the many street mothers who looked out for him actually gave birth to him. It never mattered to them, so he never thought to let it matter to him.

And really, growing up on the street was a fine life. He learned to beg; with wide childish eyes, he was quite good at it before he really started to grow tall. He never stole, and he never swindled (as long as you don't consider a forced tear to be a swindle). But he also began taking on 'honest' work when he could find it, and before long, he was fully employed in a sense that even the local authorities would agree was within the law. It started with one of the monks at that temple with the library.

Yuyut was barely 8, and the monk needed a runner. The work was simple; the monk had some book he was after, and was too busy to fetch it himself. Yuyut would be given a small slip of parchment with the name of a bookseller—Yuyut would learn there were three vintage booksellers this monk always used—and the title of a book. He just went to pick up the book, and brought it back to the monk at the temple. Yuyut never learned how the books were paid for—he was never given any coin to pay for the books, at least; the bookseller would just hand the book to Yuyut. But the monk paid Yuyut well. A little too well, Yuyut thought later on, when he'd had a chance to really think about it.

But in those early years, he was just happy to have the coin. The monk was pleasant, and Yuyut would only have to run once or twice a week to earn all the money he needed. Yuyut ended up spending much of his own free time at the Irorian temple's library—because of course it was a temple to Irori—enjoying learning more about the world around him. After a few years, it got to the point that the monk would just come find Yuyut in the library, it had become such a common pastime for Yuyut. A good thing, too, as the monk was starting to let himself go. He started ambling about with a cane, complaining of gout, and how his eyesight was troubling him. Still, he was good for one or two errands a week, so Yuyut was happy. Until that one trip.

The monk was flush, and a little sweaty—Yuyut recalls how the monk continually mopped his brow. The writing on the note was more than usually precise; the errant scrawl replaced by firm strokes, overwritten a few times to be stark and clear on the paper. And the monk handed Yuyut a bag of gold to deliver to the bookseller. This must have been an important book! No bother, Yuyut was trustworthy, and happy to do the work. He handed walked quickly to the bookseller, and handed over the note. The bookseller was also quite anxious; he handed Yuyut a heavy, bound package—triple-wrapped in plain paper—instructing Yuyut to take no detours, and to deliver the book with haste.

Deliver with haste he did! He ran back to the temple, a growing dread about the contents of the package driving him along. He went directly to the monk's chambers, and handed the package over with care. The monk thanked him—absent-mindedly—and close the door.

It would be the last time that Yuyut ever saw the monk.

When he finally complained to the temple that something was wrong, more than a week later, they forced open the door. There was no sign of the monk—or the unusual book—but the room was chaos. Something serious had happened in those chambers. There was sure sign of struggle, but no blood. No body.

And, oddly, no memory? Why couldn't Yuyut remember the monk's name? His face was growing indistinct too! Too soon, the monk all but disappeared from Yuyut's young, sharp mind.

He had been spending so much time at the temple, it was a simple enough exercise to join faith with those of Irori and take his own vows. Ever with a mind towards finding that monk—Yuyut never believed him dead—and maybe even finding that book, Yuyut has travelled the Inner Sea since, always establishing himself at a local Irorian temple, only moving on once he's sure he's exhausted all local leads as to the identity or whereabouts of his childhood benefactor or his unusual book.

Good luck to those selected.
If one of you should fall by the wayside as your puny mortal mind is overwhelmed by cosmic horrors beyond comprehension, the survivors should know that Dervak is still here, ready to shed his shamefully corrupted blood in the service of those purer than he.

Silver Crusade

I have made my selections. I want to thank everyone who took the time to put characters together. I've recorded several names who I'll reach out to if I need replacements. I'd encourage you all to apply to anything else I run in the future. Usually that will be for PFS, posted in Flaxseed.

Thanks for the consideration... I'm assuming since I didn't get a pm, I'm not on the list... I hope I'm on the replacements list just in case... see you on the boards, GM Lari.

Oh well, thanks for the consideration.

Congrats to everyone chosen!

congrats
