Sorry for the lack of activity recently, got laid low by a stomach bug on Friday.
Scrumpy will search with Perception. If Barham can use Know (religion) at better than -5, he'll do that, otherwise he'll use Perception.
Summoner and eidolon meander about the room, their runes flickering as they silently converse over potential finds.
Scrumpy's Perception: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 2 = 13
Barham's Know (religion)?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 Minus some penalty

The group splits up to search the now open book cases. Taalaako heads to the center book case and as soon as he gets the glass case open over a dozen books spring to life swirling around the tengu. They move quickly causing many deep and painful paper cuts as they brush up again him.

My apologies there was an emergency at work yesterday that kept me at work until 1:30 AM this morning.

[b]"Skwak! Ouch ouch ouch ouch!" [\b]
[ooc]Paper cuts are the worst! Current HP 6/9. Am I taking actual bleed damage?
Edit: apparently my phone doesn't do formatting when posting. Very strange.[\ooc]

Know (arcana) to ID enemy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Two non-knowledge questions: what size are the books, and where is Scrumpy on the initiative track?
Throw flask of alchemist's fire, targeting upper right square of the swarm. Apologies to Taalaako and Kyrie.

HP fixed. Do Scrumpy, Kyrie, and Taalaako get AoOs from the swarm moving through their threatened squares?
Barham fires his bow into the whirling pile, while Scrumpy continues battling the books as they close around him.

Sorry work has been kicking by butt all week and that is reflecting in my GMing. Taalaako and Scrumpy need to make DC 11 fort saves or they are nauseated for 1 round. Scrumpy would be the only one with an AoO for two reasons. Taalaako and Kyrie have not acted and are considered flat footed and second the swarm only shifted 5 feet so would only provoke when moving into another creatures space.
Scrumpy AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Before the swarm over took Scrumpy he was able to get a big mouth full of books. Following that Vassago swings his mace like object and bats a few more to the ground. Finally Lucia manages to impale the remaining books out of the air.
Out of combat

Thanks, I'm terrible at remembering the flat-footed first round rules.
Scrumpy Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
"I do hope we didn't need any of those books," Barham laments, as Scrumpy hacks up half a leather cover.

![]() |

Fort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Despite the papercuts, Tal quickly recovers from the shock of the books' attack. He takes 1 bleed damage.
"Wow, that stings! Can someone hit me with some magic, please?"

![]() |

Kyrie was badly out of position, contemplating the description of the ciphers -- and not expecting the books to suddenly leap out and start attacking in the first place. By the time she's drawn her blade, the fight's already over.
"... So much for trying to keep a low profile," she murmurs, sheathing her sword again and taking a quick look outside the room in case someone overheard the commotion, then looks back at the other glass-bound bookcases. "... I'm not sure we should risk another breakout by opening the next case." she suggests.

![]() |

Now a little leary... Vassago casts detect magic throughout the room to make sure there are no more magical traps like this.
Should only take 36 seconds with 2 3-round-concentrated castings of the spell in opposite corners.

![]() |

Looking at his pocketwatch, he snaps it shut with a quiet click. "Ok, we've got a little over an hour before we should head back. Should we try the next room which might be the head master's office or do you think his office is the stairs? We have a few pieces of information, but I for one would like to see if we can find more about this horn. Since we know that prophets of Aroden have made failed prophesies, perhaps the one mentioned in this text is also false and we might be able to find and repair the horn..."

![]() |

"I appreciate the bandages, Robert, but I'm still feeling pretty woozy. I think I lost a good bit of blood..."
HP is curently 4/9, so one more hit could cause some serious problems. Anyone have some cure magic they'd share with me?

![]() |

Robert shrugs, "Sorry Taalaako, I had a chance to get a minor healing wand from one of my teachers, but I forgot to talk to him before I had to board the ship to Taldor." He heaves a sigh, [b]"I have a healing extract, but it wouldn't do you any good. Its balanced for my... particular anatomy and would probably end up poisoning you."[/b}
Yeah, this was a GM credit baby and I forgot to get a wand with PP. :/ Usually all my characters have one whether I can use it or not.

![]() |

How about some infernal healing?
"I do have this trinket, this little curiosity." As the summoner speaks, he snaps his wrist straight, and a wand springs from within his sleeves to be snatched between his fingers.
"It will fix up those little nicks and scratches, but you might not feel yourself."

Any time! Barham will give Scrumpy a tap as well, 45 to 43 charges.
The canid eidolon twists his head to the side. His lips peel back and his long tongue snakes around his teeth, trying to dislodge a scrap of paper stuck between them. Barham reaches in a finger and thumb and plucks out the offending object. Holding at a distance, he examines the illegible smudges of ink.
"Well then, well well" he starts, releasing the scrap to let it slip wetly to the floor, "if that's the worst scrape we have, we'll count our blessings, eh? What have we got now, just the one more room down the hall?"

![]() |

The group proceeds down the hall and opens the door to find two rows tall bookshelves flanking the imposing yet beautiful wooden desk that presides over this room. Over the door hanks a portrait of Grand Prince Stavian III, portrayed wearing an especially smug grin.
This is a small room with no additional search rules.

![]() |

"Let's get this one done quickly, since it's pretty small."
Linguisitcs: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Tal's intuition and grasp of many languages immediately allows him to identify the most useful books in the room, allowing him to search the area quickly and efficiently.

![]() |

That roll will get everything in this room. So we'll say 3 of you helped to cut the time down. Post up anything else you'd like to do in the room.
Taalaako is able to locate another Taldan cipher and a book that explains how some of the bookshelves might grant some sort of magical assistance in your search for information.

![]() |

After searching the bookcases and not finding much more information about the Shining Crusade, Robert goes to check out the desk as he pulls his pocket watch out to check the time once more. He sits in the chair, and first checks to see if any of the drawers might be trapped and or locked.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 +1 for traps

![]() |

Aiding Robert's search of the drawers: Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Dang! I'm hitting all the 20s these days! This just means for the next combat I'm going to roll a 1 on initiative. LOL

![]() |

Oops, for some reason I read the auras were ON the desk... I was checking the contents while I figured Vassago would identify the items on the desk. Heh. ah well.
Confident that there's nothing dangerous, Robert is a little annoyed that the Tengu thought he needed help, but instead of speaking his mind he just gritted his teeth, causing a slight screech of metal on metal to sound from beneath his balaclava. Coughing to try and mask the noise, he opens the drawers searching for anything of interest.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

![]() |

Barham lifts himself up on the tips of his toes, trying to look over shoulders to see what his companions have discovered.
"Have we found anything, have we encountered anything of interest?"

![]() |

Holding up the two bottles, Robert shrugs. "Might be interesting, but I doubt we should take them. I have a feeling even if its ink that someone might miss them."
Craft (alchemy) to id: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 121d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
