Urktar |
"Bert thinks that's a great idea. So which way to the Svengali Square?"
GM Fuzzfoot |
You spot Buri Buri-Ban, as promised, at the Fetching Fan café on Sengali Square. Though he doesn’t seem to see you, the moment you recognize him, he stands and retrieves a potion out of his waist-sash. As he drains the potion he begins running, package in hand. By the time he’s taken three steps across the square, he’s already invisible!
Urktar |
or if someone had Glitterdust from a boon or something. Not a lot low levels can do about this...especially in core
Urktar grunts in resignation. Was there anyone else sitting at his table? If not, he'll try to watch the roads exiting the square for any sign of someone invisible moving through the crowd.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
"Perhaps we could ask around for his gnome a-so-she-ets?"
Kaiyode Awoniyi |
Kaiyode immediately takes off in the direction he saw Buri Buri-Ban run. He tries to see if he can spot any signs of an invisible man making his way through the crowd (e.g. people shoved by an invisible force).
"Hey Buri Buri-Ban, STOP!"
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
GM Fuzzfoot |
Urktar notices puffs of dust kicked up toward a refinery. Shortly afterward a passerby in front of the refinery is knocked off of his feet by an invisible force.
The refinery is a two-story building with no windows. It looks well and frugally made, and the only decoration consists of the name painted above the door and a stark sign by the entrance that says something in Kelish.
For those who don’t read Kelish there is a helpful icon of a stylized flame with an X through it.
Kaiyode Awoniyi |
Kaiyode moves into the doorway of the refinery and shouts,
"Buri-ban, we just want tee statue! It is stolen!"
GM Fuzzfoot |
They didn't provide a map for this encounter, so I made my own. This probably should have used chase rules, but they didn't do it that way.
The refinery is a large square space, 100 feet on a side, and is used for refining Sianti chaff into the extremely potent and fairly valuable spice of the same name. The room is full of spice vats, wooden stairways and catwalks; chains and rope hang from elaborate pulley systems and the lamps
are continual flames completely enclosed in glass globes. “No Open Flame” signs in Kelish are painted all over the vats. The refining process creates a tremendous amount of dust which is constantly settling on everything and swirling around as the refiners (yellow) go about their work. As you enter through the main door, you see a ripple in the dust moving across the refinery floor 20 feet from the main entrance. The ripple is Buri-Ban, his interactions with the swirling dust pinpointing his location. While he still has full concealment (50% miss chance), it is easy to tell what space he’s taking up as long as he’s moving.

Well, to be fair, were not the chase rules released several years after this scenario was first released...?

Yes, that is true. In fact, the scenario even predates Perception - everything is listed as a Spot check.

You continue to see a path of disturbed dust as the merchant tries to evade you.
Meanwhile, the workers start yelling at you to get out, that it is too dangerous, and then move towards Pau to remove him.

Attempting to fascinate the runner. DC 14 will save to avoid. This assumes that the runner is within 90 feet and can see me.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 Good thinking, but alas...
Kaiyode Awoniyi |
Kaiyode rushes into the factory, drawing his greatsword and barreling past the workers in pursuit of the puffs of dust which indicate Buri-Ban's position.

Urktar to finish this up.
Kaiyode Awoniyi |
Just FYI, you can't grapple as an AoO. The three combat maneuvers which can be substituted for a melee attack are disarm, sunder, and trip.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Well, that's weird - but will just call them trip attempts then. They missed anyway.
Urktar |
Urktar uses a double move to get in front of the far door.
40' base, can move up to 80'
GM Fuzzfoot |
Trip Attempt: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
Trip Attempt: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Nice move! I think you were done for with out that.
Technically, both also give you an AoO as they try to trip you, if you wanted to stop and take it.
Workers move toward each of you, trying to get you out of the buidling.

Urktar |
Urktar will tell the workers to move over to a corner if they want to remain unharmed.

GM Fuzzfoot |
@Pau - due to the dust in this place, you can always tell what square he is in (unless you have less than +4 perception). So you can assume that as you post your actions. Also, with a move of 40', you don't really need to be doing double moves each round. I don't like to tell players how to play, but you should probably be attacking or something each round. I moved you, but you can still use a standard action.
@Kaiyode - why do you have -3 hp in your header?
Kaiyode Awoniyi |
@Kaiyode - why do you have -3 hp in your header?
Because I neglected to update them after the centipede fight. :(

Hmm. I thought I saw earlier that if I didn’t get a 16 total on my perception score, I couldn’t find him. I might have misread something.
