I told you he was tricksy...

GM Faelyn |

Okay, so during character audit this is what I noticed:
Carter: Everything looks good.
Drafton: You are missing a trait, you have only selected two when you get three (including your free Campaign trait). You also have 1 too many skill points. You should only have 8. Other than that, looks good. Please let me know when you have that fixed.
Nova: Everything looks good.
Dhamiskeanus: Can you give me a break down of your attributes? I'm not able to make any sense of your scores. With your racial choice, you'd have to have a starting point of 19 in your Intelligence, a 6 in you Wisdom and those don't even have scores in the point-buy method. Other than that... it all looks good.
Once we have those few issues sorted, I think we will be set to go! If any of you have an image you would rather use for your icon on the map, please send me a link with it. Otherwise I will just your your PC's avatar image for your map icon!

Nova Strangewater |

WOOHOO! I thought I would get a huge list of problems or something
Sorry in advance for all the "uh that wouldn't of hit cuz my beast is in incorporeal form", and "that wouldn't affect me cuz my beast is in my brain" moments.

Dhamiskeanus, the Swollen |

Vetala-Born (Ajibachana)
With skin like faded brass, ajibachanas reveal Their undead taint through their unnatural agility and childlike trains of thought.
Ancestry Vetala
Ability Modifiers: +2 Dex, +2 Int, –2 Wis
Alternate Skill Modifiers: Escape Artist, Use Magic Device
Alternate Spell-Like Ability: Ajibachanas gain comprehend languages as a spell-like ability.
Alternate Weakness: Ajibachanas take a -1 penalty to their caster level whenever they are in an area affected by consecrate, hallow, or a similar spell that makes an area holy.
[12] Str: 2 points
[12] Dex: 0 points + 2 racial
[16] Con: 10 points
[17] Int: 7 points + 2 racial
[8] Wis: 0 points - 2 racial
[11] Cha: 1 point
More often the result of curiosity or experimentation Than mating, the dhampir offspring of vetalas are born with sharp minds and are inclined to ask questions. Known as ajibachanas, they are forceful and precocious, but their progenitors' distaste for the devout is mirrored in their weakness around holy or unholy sites.
Just like their vampire parents, ajibachanas yearn for knowledge and often engage in scholarly pursuits, but their mortality drives them to work harder and learn faster. In a few short decades, they might gain a better understanding of themselves and their accumulated knowledge than Their eternally childish parents ever could have.
Unable to change bodies like vetalas, ajibachanas lack The variation of their vampire parents, but many excel at dance or contortion, turning their lithe forms into works of art, and possibly earning money through performance. Ajibachanas understand how avaricious vetalas and mortals can be, and thus many of the wiser ones become ascetics, preferring knowledge over gold and ever fearful of becoming as covetous as their ancestors.

Drafton Upton |

Whoops, that was an error when I was thinking about making him smarter at first. Edited.
As for the other Campaign trait, I was still waiting to see if you think the rich parents trait would be okay.
If not that, then I'd choose Ambitious: You exude confidence in the presence of those more powerful than you—sometimes unreasonably so. You gain a +4 trait bonus on Diplomacy checks made to influence creatures with at least 5 Hit Dice more than you possess.

GM Faelyn |

Dhamis: Okay, that's why the problem. Archives of Nethys has the pre-errata version of that sub-race attribute bonuses. That clears it right up... Thank you!
Drafton: I am very sorry you were waiting on me! Rich Parents would be acceptable.
I will work on getting the first post up in a little bit!

GM Faelyn |

Could everyone please make sure to have all their pertinent information in their information bars? The following format would be preferred, or something similar.
HP Current#/Total# | AC # | T # | FF # | CMD # | Fort +# | Ref +# | Will +# | Init +# | Perc +# | (Any abilities that have a daily limit such as spells/day (for non-prepared casters), bardic performances, etc. Also, I'd like you all to add in a Fear level tracker to make it easier to keep track of your current fear level. Something simple like Fear: 0/7 with 1 being Spooked, 2 Shaken, 3 Scared, 4 Frightened, 5 Panicked, 6 Terrified, and 7 Horrified
For Example...
HP 11/27 | AC(20) 18 | T 13 | FF 15 | CMD 17 | Fort +3 | Ref +8 | Will +5 | Init +3 | Perc +9 | Bardic Per 15/17 | Spells: 1st - 2/4; 2nd - 2/2
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
*EDIT*
Nova: I did just notice one thing about your PC. You have not selected a Story Feat. You are not required to do so, but it's there if you want to choose one.

GM Faelyn |

Yup! Sanity, Fear, and Corruptions (if you guys want to do the corruptions). So would need to track our Sanity levels as well. Do you all have access to those rules? If not, I will see about posting them in a spoiler in the Campaign page for easy access.

GM Faelyn |

Just waiting on Carter, I know he has been busy recently. So... Feel free to listen to this!, while reading/posting in this game to help you get into the mood. It's definitely creeptastic. Also, I hope I'm doing a decent job so far setting the mood. If not, please do let me know as I want you all (as players and not just characters) to be able to fully experience this!
Any tips, suggestions, comments, concerns, critiques, etc. will gladly be accepted.

GM Faelyn |

Okay, I think I just found an even better playlist... This one is on spotify if you're interested. Much thanks to Gorbacz for this one!

Carter Lemarchand |

As long as we're sharing Lovecraftian music, here's one of my favorite playlists. It's barely music. It's really more of an ambiance, and it is creepy as hell.

GM Faelyn |

Nice one, Carter! Little things like that is what I miss about having an actually tabletop group. Back in the day my buddies and I used to play Alternity in addition to D&D and our Alternity GM had one of the most memorable sessions ever by utilizing ambient music/noises like this. We weren't even really aware of it at first and midway through the session we were all so deep into the story that we were terrified for our characters. There was a legitimate fear that the creature we were facing was beyond our ability and that maybe even running would not be enough to stave off the horrible fate that awaited us!

GM Faelyn |

I'll give Drafton until this evening to post his actions before I move on. I really want to keep things moving right now to help keep the feeling of fear.

GM Faelyn |

I am very glad to hear that, Nova! I know the feeling. I've been wanting to run this AP ever since I read the first whisper of rumor!

GM Faelyn |

Hey guys, I know this scene seems very one-sided, and I'll admit that it is, but just trust me and roll with it. If you haven't understood yet, you will shortly!

Drafton Upton |

I think I might get what's going on here. But I'm really not sure either. Guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

Dhamiskeanus, the Swollen |

I'm glad someone does because I have no idea and it's awesome. It's different and new and way beyond 'I stab the goblin'. I admit to being some what confused because of the fear part. I'm not really sure how scared I'm supposed to be; like biting my nails scared or hiding in the closet scared or running for my life scared, but it's interesting.

GM Faelyn |

Ideally I should have added something to the effect of this into my initial post I think... "While you haven't the slightest idea what is stalking you inside the fog, some instinctual part of you knows that whatever it is.... you do not want it to catch you."
A meta-game perspective your PCs, you've just seen this creature butcher two other people and rip some lizard-thing with wings in two and it does not appear slowed at all... and you know that it can go invisible... And into the mix that weird physics of this place; Dhamis and Drafton ran through a doorway that didn't exist and this would be the second time Drafton has been teleported. Just some food for thought...

Drafton Upton |

Drafton is running at full tilt with his enhanced speed while talking to himself this turn. He basically spent this round hopefully parsing out what's going on. He's either looking for an exit or failing that, he's going to try willing himself to wake up. Through will saves, if he gets a chance.
What's particularly weird/frightening about this, is this reminds me of times when I've actually been in nightmares and have twice now forcibly willed myself to wake up. I remember it being extremely difficult, like there was definitely something trying to keep me from waking up, and it was exhausting when I finally did open my eyes.
Other times, I failed and the nightmare continued for what felt like hours.

GM Faelyn |

New post up! Also, a map has been added to my subheading bar!

GM Faelyn |

I'd like to get all of your input on this. The AP indicates that you all know and remember your abilities, but you don't remember anything about how you are or your past. Personally, I think it might be a little more interesting to tweak it up a little bit...
Would you guys prefer to recall everything about your abilities right away? Or slowly learn about your powers as you start to explore your surroundings?
Also, I rather think it might almost be more frightening to remember a good portion of your life and then have one last memory before suddenly waking up inside a barred asylum. What do you guys think? For example, the last thing Carter remembers is opening that box, and then suddenly finds himself in his current predicament. What do you all think? Either way will work for the AP.

Dhamiskeanus, the Swollen |

I personally wasn't planning on remembering any of his abilities until Dhamiskeanus finds his spellbook and component pouch, most likely hidden somewhere in the cell he's in. He would basically find it and start reading it and realize that he can actually read it and it would trigger his memory about where he got the book.

GM Faelyn |

So far we two for no memories at all! I'm perfectly okay with going that route as this is your story, I'm just the teller... The crazy teller who may introduce you to the Weird that causes your mind to slip and your brains to turn into--- Anyway....

Drafton Upton |

I know that in the dream I'd sort of let slip that Drafton remembered something from before without being too specific. But then again, I have also recalled after waking up in the real world, that my dreaming self just "knew things" that I didn't. I had assumed that we were not going to remember much, if anything about our lives.
I agree that it would be more frightening to remember parts of our lives up to the point and then just blank out for however long. But as I am the outvoted party here, I will gracefully step down and allow for the slowly recalling of abilities.

Drafton Upton |

Really wish I remembered who I was. I have so many ideas for just the cantrip spells that i could be using right now.
Oh well, time to change tactics.

Drafton Upton |

Question about the bindings for the man on the table. Are these ropes that have been tied to him keeping him down.
Or are these more like the kind of straps with buckles that can be fastened and unfastened on a regular operating table. Or perhaps a better way of describing it, from the perspective of someone who's not tied down, opened and closed?
Basically I'm trying to see if the spell open/close would work for loosening the straps on the hands of the guy so he could get an arm or leg free and not be coup de grâce'd next round by the now very angry crazy lady.
As a personal note, this is literally one the scariest things for me to personally imagine being trapped in. Far and away above so many other things I can imagine... I hate this scene.

GM Faelyn |

Okay, first let me say that I want you all to let me know immediately if any scene makes you all too uncomfortable as players. I want to push the boundaries of fear for all of us, but not to the point where they make any of you too uncomfortable! So please do let me know immediately! If this scene is too difficult, Drafton I can tone it down.
As to the table it is more like a writing desk with rough, hemp ropes strapping the man down around his and the bottom of the table. I would say that you could easily undo a knot with the Open/Close cantrip.

Drafton Upton |

Oh no, don't tone this down. While I personally find this the kind of scene that would induce nightmares that I had from my childhood, I do not want in any way for this to be lessened for the impact it has.
I know what I signed up for. I just didn't expect the second scene to be one of the things I literally have had nightmares about.

GM Faelyn |

I'm glad you all are enjoying this! I've added Fear and Sanity rules to the Campaign thread, make sure to read over them and let me know if you have any questions about them! Because...

GM Faelyn |

Sorry about my disappearance. I injured my back on Sunday and was bed-ridden on muscle relaxers and heating pad the past two days. I will get caught up with all my games nowish.

GM Faelyn |

I think for sake of ease from this point onward, if the party is facing a lone opponent, then we will skip initiative groupings. What I will do is roll initiative as normal, then take the average of the group and compare it to the lone enemy to see who will act first. After that actions will occur in the order that they are posted. For combats with multiple enemies, I will likely keep it grouped as usual.
