GM Dinketry |
The crew begin to fan out, three of them circling the catwalk slowly. The lashunta pair edge forward of the bloodied and torn longcoat, gore visible on the floor as the only remnant of the eaten crimelord.
It is still inside the warehouse.
Diamaante |
Diamaante points to the far corner of the nest. "I thought I heard something there. Let's keep moving," she telepathically tells Telion.
Telion, if it's okay, I moved both of us forward.
Telion of Castrovel |
"Sounds good to me."
All good, I'm either going to get a first strike, or I can be bait. Either way, everyone else can be ready to shoot it before I end up like the former owner.
GM Dinketry |
The crew on the ground inches forward, picking their way through the litter on the ground.
Telion and Diamaante, you’re moving through difficult terrain.
No sounds, no movement...no creature? The crew grows weary of the wait.
GM Dinketry |
Telion looks around as a lit flare arcs down from the catwalk above (courtesy of August). A large pit appears to have been dug in the floor, metal panels peeled aside. Black and white feathers line the ten foot drop, encased in semi-translucent and hardened goo. Further investigation is not possible without a focused light source.
GM Dinketry |
In a flash, a feathered appendage snakes out from beneath Idar and strikes unseen at the kasatha!
The crinoid is hanging ten feet up the wall underneath you, Idar, and making use of its reach feature. It has partial cover against you, Telion, and Diamaante (thanks to the gas cylinders in front of it). It has no cover from Jaxom and August, but Jaxom will have a difficult time hitting him due to the low-light conditions in the area (not yet dispelled by your personal commlink light, Idar). Due to their vigilance, Diamaante and Jaxom may act in the surprise round.
Diamaante Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
Idar Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Jaxom Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Telion Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Crinoid Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Surprise Round!
The crinoid's feathered appendage tumesces into an enlarged bulbous head as it flies through the air, slamming into Idar's unprepared torso.
Melee Attack on flat-footed Idar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 141d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 HIT! - 7 points of bludgeoning damage, Idar
Jaxom and then Diamaante react to the sudden flurry of movement as Idar takes a solid blow.
Jaxom and Diamaante may act!
GM Dinketry |
Anyone got a flashbang?
How far is it down to the floor from the catwalk?
The catwalk is 15 feet above the floor.
Diamaante |
"Look out!" Diamaante shouts, a bit too late for Idar to avoid the crinoid's attack. She fires a shot from her pistol.
Tactical Pistol: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 161d6 ⇒ 4 Piercing
GM Dinketry |
Due to being within an area of dim light, the crinoid is subject to a partial (20%) concealment chance from Jaxom's attack.
Concealment roll: 1d100 ⇒ 12 ATTACK MISSES!
Jaxom's laser blasts into the underside of the catwalk, just missing the creature. As Diamaante's bullet hits the creature, a static arc of arcane energy discharges, sending the fired missile directly back at the envoy!
Jaxom, you may make a Mysticism check, if you'd like.
Diamaante Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 SUCCESS!
The lashunta damaya throws herself out of the way of her own bullet, still suffering a painful wound to her shoulder that could've been a whole lot worse.
Diamaante, take 2 points of piercing damage.
Round 1!
Idar, August, and Telion may act!
August Vydoc |
August will pull his own laser pistol and fire.
Attack (Azimuth Laser Pistol): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage (Azimuth Laser Pistol): 1d4 ⇒ 1 That's the ticket. Just whittle the thing down.
GM Dinketry |
Jaxom isn't too sure, but he thinks the creature used some sort of spell effect in response to Diamaante's attack. The android levels his gun at the writhing creature, nailing it squarely with his well-aimed laser.
He's just not sure that it did anything.
DRAMATIC AND DRAWN-OUT MUSICAL CHORD!!!!
Idar, it's your turn!
GM Dinketry |
The kasatha growls in a loud voice at the threatening appendage, but his laser blast deflects off the catwalk structural bracing as he steps away from the creature.
Idar, which direction did you step on the map?
Telion, it is your turn!
GM Dinketry |
They appear to be labeled 'Noble', and though disused-appearing, their electrical connections still seem to be powered up.
Telion of Castrovel |
Physical Science (untrained): 1d20 ⇒ 13
As the creature attacked, Telion raced back towards the entrance to get a cleaner shot, drawing his pistol as he ran, trailing faint wisps of flame as he moved. Sighting the creature with his flashlight, he quickly aimed and fired off a single shot.
Tactical Pistol: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17, Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Solar Attunement: 1
GM Dinketry |
Telion, you cannot do untrained Physical Science checks (p.145 Core Rulebook)
Telion fires and strikes the whirling mass of appendages under Idar. A purple-black smear on the wall and a puff of feathers both indicate some form of a wound to the alien creature. The creature responds by whipping an appendage at the lashunta korasha, a cruel talon separating from its tip and rocketing towards Telion.
Ranged Attack on Telion: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 111d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 MISS!
The talon clangs off one of the gas canisters, leaving a sizeable dent but ricocheting far away from Telion. The crinoid climbs up the catwalk, fluidly moving at Idar in a highly menacing fashion.
Jaxom and Diamaante may act!
Diamaante |
"Get 'em, boys!" Diamaante shouts, pointing at the crinoid with her free hand. She squeezes off another shot from her pistol, but it goes wide.
Tactical Pistol: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Until the start of Diamaante's next turn, everybody gains a +1 morale bonus on attacks against the crinoid.
Jaxom Sandstrom |
Jaxom lays down a barrage of light at the creature...
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 4 + 1 = 111d4 ⇒ 1 Fire, Burn 1d4
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 92
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 4 + 1 = 161d4 ⇒ 2 Fire, Burn 1d4
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 39
Telion of Castrovel |
**Double checks book** Actually, you can up to a DC of 10 to recall knowledge (p. 133 Core Rulebook, Recall Knowledge).
GM Dinketry |
Well, damn. I just got taken to Knowledge College. You are correct, Telion.
Diamaante and Jaxom lay down a barrage of fire. Jaxom’s second laser seems to have clipped one of the flailing appendages, but the laser appears to have done no damage.
Round 2!
Idar, August, and Telion all may act!
Telion of Castrovel |
With the creature exposed on the catwalk, Telion opened fire.
Pistol 1: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11, Damage?: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Pistol 2: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Note for next time, aim first.
Solar: 2
GM Dinketry |
Telion's pair of shots both miss, clanging off the metal of the wall and the catwalk.
Idar and August may act!
GM Dinketry |
The kasatha unsheathes his sword in a fluid action with his lower right arm. The blade sings as it slices deep into the alien creature, purple-black ichor, feathers, and a pair of amputated appendages left in its wake.
August, it is your turn!
August Vydoc |
August will try to Trick Attack the monster.
Trick Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 Nope.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 Also nope. Thank goodness I nailed that disguise roll!
GM Dinketry |
From its position five feet away from Idar, the crinoid snaps two separate appendages at the kasatha: one high and one low.
Melee Attack on Idar, Reach: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 4 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 HIT! - 8 points of bludgeoning damage, Idar
Melee Attack on Idar, Reach: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 8 - 4 = 121d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 MISS!
A heavy tentacle-like arm slams into the kasatha’s chest, cracking a collarbone. The second appendage whizzes past Idar’s legs.
Jaxom and Diamaante may act!
Diamaante |
"Don't let up! Get 'em, boys!" Diamaante shouts again, taking another shot.
Tactical Pistol: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 161d6 ⇒ 3
Until the start of Diamaante's next turn, everybody gains a +1 morale bonus on attacks against the crinoid.
Jaxom Sandstrom |
Jaxom continues to fire at the creature...
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 - 4 + 1 = 61d4 ⇒ 4 Fire, Burn 1d4
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 92
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 4 + 1 = 21d4 ⇒ 1 Fire, Burn 1d4
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 41
”Stupid darkness!”
GM Dinketry |
Round 3!
Idar, bruised and bloodied, faces off with the feathered horror, sword alight with the fireflies shooting from his colleagues. Will he be able to withstand the crinoid’s onslaught?
Idar, August, and Telion may act!
August Vydoc |
Trick Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1 Really? Really?
"You need a better set of eyes Jax! Idar, fall back towards the ground so we can move up to support you!"
I don't remember if you've answered this Dink, if so sorry in advance! How far from the ground is the catwalk?
GM Dinketry |
15 feet from the catwalk to the ground.
August’s laser grazes the creature, but the graze doesn’t seem to do any perceptive damage.
Idar and Telion: it’s your turn!
GM Dinketry |
Diamaante’s bullet, however, seems to have caused a wound.
Apologies for not clarifying.
