Yeah, I hear ya. My -01 PFS is inefficient as heck due to my lack of system mastery at the time. I'm sure this one will be the same!
Spacefarer Redelia
I'm going to have to back out of this one. I'm in another gameday run of the same scenario, and we lost our GM and so are less than a third of the way through. It might technically be allowed, but I don't think it's a good idea at all to be a player in two games of the same scenario.
GM, could you please remove me from the player and character lists?
Happy gaming, all of you.
The Bot Behind the Screen
Update: I've done cursory character checks, but since I'm about as new at this as all of you are I wouldn't be surprised if I missed anything. If I had any questions, I sent a PM. I've sent recruitment PMs to 2 people but I haven't received responses, and since we're allegedly a day out from starting I'm going to go for first come first served replacements. People who are fully checked in are as follows:
Justin Harker AKA Portia Steele, the Human Ace Pilot Soldier
Blake's Tiger AKA Mordin Gimhargruest the Dwarven Mystic
Upaynao AKA Da'at the Kasatha Outlaw Soldier
lucklesshero AKA Padme' the Android Xenoseeker Envoy
At this point, the first 2 people to check in with a statblock will have the last 2 seats. Given the last minute shuffle I may push out the start date by a day or so.

I see I've been beaten to the punch, but I figured I'd post up anyways for the sake of being on an unofficial waitlist or whatever. I'll be ready to start ASAP, if you ever need me.
The Bot Behind the Screen
Given how close we are to my intended start, I don't think I'll wait any longer for the PM'd folk. Tinker 7 and Reynold, you're both in so go ahead and introduce yourselves in gameplay. Sorry L.E.O.
Justin Harker AKA Portia Steele, the Human Ace Pilot Soldier
Blake's Tiger AKA Mordin Gimhargruest the Dwarven Mystic
Upaynao AKA Da'at the Kasatha Outlaw Soldier
lucklesshero AKA Padme' the Android Xenoseeker Envoy
Tripp Elliot AKA Tinker 7 the Android Spacefarer Technomancer
Christopher Wasko AKA Raynold Malkin the Human Outlaw Envoy
I live in Southern California, so any dates or times I give out will be PDT (GMT-8). My first post will go up after midnight tonight. Feel free to introduce yourselves in character in the gameplay thread. Apologies for the confusion from the last minute drops but my goal is to hopefully get us off to a smooth on-time departure.

If you wouldn't mind checking again, but I think this time I have it right.
Just had to dock myself a couple points of strength.

GM understand that the scenario probably requires some checks to pass regarding identity, forging, ect.. not unlike our quarry, I've been down this road before too. However, in the interest of immersed roll-playing and "realism" is there anyway a professional would let this valuable data just walk away for 6 hours in-escorted? I mean I'm no espionage agent but anything could happen in that time. Copy the disk, meet with another buyer, make a run for it all come readily to mind.
My character would certainly not want that data out of her sight now that she thinks she's located it. Therefore I propose we send Portia along with the old lady as an "escort" Portia is being boted right now so if the scenario calls for the old lady to "give Portia" the slip, and do something private or escape... The GM could still hand wave it and say it just happened. However what I couldn't see happening is my character simply let valuable data that she's been ordered to retrieve by the head of her order... to simply walk out the door without some sort of escort and only her word to ensure she'll be back.( we have no way of measuring how important her grandson is to her or even if it's her real grandson) So if it doesn't take too much away from the scenario, I'd like to post that Poetia escort the old lady until our scheduled meeting later that day. Please advise if this is acceptable or you'd just prefer I " roll with it" and just make some rolls
The Bot Behind the Screen
Well, the bigger issue is that she's offering the data in exchange for safety. She's certainly not going to hand over the goods without her requested payment. That being said, if you feel she should have an escort that is certainly your prerogative, and something you should bring up with her in character. The 6 hours is mostly an estimate on how long she thinks it should take you to get her declared dead and come back with a new identity, not a 'go away for 6 hours' order. With regards to Portia, I'd like others to weigh in on her actions as well. And of course, if her player posts then that is the final say.
The Bot Behind the Screen
Padme, simply put you are buying info from her, her price is the service you're performing. She has agreed to deliver the information and you have no reason to doubt her, although given the rolls that I've seen you may be a little uncertain there. She has agreed to allow you to observe her if you wish but has quite correctly pointed out that she's much more experienced than you are at this gig.
This is a question about time management and nothing more. You have a series of tasks that all together, in her estimate, will take about 6 hours to complete. If you feel that the risk of her making another deal and/or getting picked up off the street is high, you can choose to spend your 6 hours covering her. If you feel that the risk of her story falling apart without the help of your skills is high, then you will likely choose to help with her identity.
So far it appears as though the party is taking her statements at face value and doing what they feel they can do best. I see nothing 'meta' about making this decision and would please ask you to make any dissenting views in character, and accept the decisions of the other players as their decisions just as I hope they will accept your decision, whatever it is.
As for Portia, I still only have your suggestion for her actions, and if nobody else has anything else to say by the time I close this section out, or her player returns, I'll use that recommendation.

GM I meant no insult to my fellow players...perhaps the word "Meta" isn't completely PC to use so my apologies if I've offended. I wasn't suggesting you bot Portia..and I'd never try to take "ownership of action" from the other characters. I've made suggestions at a coarse of action and then volunteered to stay myself. I encourage players to do whatever gives them the most pleasure playing this game and I don't want to take away from what gives them enjoyment out of the game. If you as a GM don't appreciate the thoughts of my character towards the actions of my companions.. I can completely cut that part of my roll-play out. As far as the out of character comments go..it's not my intention to pressure anyone in to doing anything they don't want to do. I'll refrain from suggesting any coarse of action for the remainder of the scenario if that's what the GM wishes and or players wish.
I'm just trying to role-play to the best of my abilities. I am a rookie on my first mission set to recover data from a source.. I believe I have found that source. Now the source and possessor of the data has made an offer of exchange. We agree to that exchange. However, being new ..my character's training would prohibit her from leaving the data un-accounted for once she'd found it. It's a simple as that...my character would choose to do the non optimal thing because the data is the primary objective. Leaving it unguarded would not be an option..
thx for the dialoge
I'll do my best to play my own character..if they players want to have a discussion as a group ( with regards to plans and how best to go about missions ect..) I will remain open to that as well. But all styles of play are fun to observe and watch..6 lone wolves could be fun too!
As far as Padme' is concerned, she'll stay with Ceren ..though it's not optimal mechanics wise...I still prefer "role-play" over roll-play;
thx for understanding

I would recommend re-evaluating your OOC commentary from the perspective of an outside observer who does not know what you're thinking.
While I didn't make a complaint, I was--offended seems too strong a word--hurt by the attitude that it came across. While I choose to believe the post was an explanation for your actions (in a "Look, I'm really not trying to sabotage our chances"-sort of way), it certainly isn't the way it reads at face value.

Are staying with Ceren and designing her new ID on a computer with a Computers Check mutually exclusive? Seems like an easy way for Padme to participate without abandoning her ward. She could even get Ceren’s input to help with continuity.

Padme, let me ask you a question: Why would a more experienced hacker trust you with data she uncovered if you can't even trust her to survive on her own for a few hours, after she asked you obliquely to get her a new ID? If I, in real life, asked someone to do something for me in exchange for something and they said "Nope, gonna just walk around with you for the next few hours, make sure you don't lose it somewhere", I wouldn't feel obliged to give them anything. By your actions, you are telling her you don't trust her in any meaningful way.
Furthermore, by acompanying her you might even put her on the radar. "That old lady that usually takes her walks all by herself? Yeah today she's accompanied by that weird looking android/kasatha/dwarf/human, the one armed to the teeth."
Remember that we were only able to track down the location the data breach came from. If they find noone there, they will ask around, and like us, first think the younger one did it. With time of the essence before the data gets sold, are they really are going to go after grandma and hold her for ransom, or are they directly going to try and secure the data thus directly going after her decoy: her grandson? Ransom is a desperate tactic, which I do not see our corporate buddies attempting first thing. And the time that buys us would best be used ensuring that she dissappears from circulation.
Just some idle ooc thoughts.

Ok thx for input: going forward I've got two things in mind that will help the game move forward: ( both things GM suggested)
1. Limit my ooc dialogue to clarifying actions and position only
2. Make all my characters intentions come out " in character "
Thx for all the advise and input

On flashlights in Starfinder:
A personal comm unit also includes a calculator, a flashlight (increases the light level one step in a 15-foot cone)
Personal comm units are common, inexpensive devices that are capable of communicating with each other on a single planet or between ships orbiting a given world. Small enough to be carried in a pocket, they also come automatically integrated into all armor of 1st level or higher
Sure, it's only 15', and a cone, but since everyone has one, at least we're never entirely in the dark!

It has been horrible! They should award everyone a full level due to their website problems!
I'd settle for a free legacy race boon. ;)
