Planar Aegis and spell resistance?

Does Spell resistance apply to the damage dealt by Planar Aegis?

And isn't Planar Aegis just strictly better (more damage, more options) than fire shield?

The spell seems almost too good. Especially if it ignores SR.

I suspect the balancing factor, such as it is, is needing a fistful of material from a plane with the {element}-dominant trait as a material component. Which would be tricky to acquire and too bulky to fit lots of in most spell component pouches. Otherwise yes it looks like a straight upgrade on fire shield, though at a spell level 1 higher for most casters.

Edit: though I think SR: yes is the default.
