Tamat |
Tamat moves over Giggles after striking him down. The dwarven cleric rushed past him on the railing, but was unable to close with the enemies.
Sliding past the dwarf, the shadow strikes at the gnome, Matam shot at.
Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
The Gnome only takes half damage unless he is incorporeal.
Eltanin Titansglade |
Ellie edges past Matam until she is within easy striking distance, neatly dropping her dagger into her off hand and again pulling a vial from her bandolier. As she steps forward, the vial seems to shimmer. Hope you survive this, but no one will miss you if you don't! she says before lobbing the vial upwards, towards the part of the catwalk on which the man is standing.
Bomb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
The bomb is aimed at a square, not a person, and so does 4 damage in the square of impact and each square adjacent.
Wilthorn Gwanae |
"You got a problem, Dwarf?" Wilthorn shouts, as his eyes narrow at the entrance of two more enemies. He moves up the rest of the stairs, before launching another arrow, this one at the well-dressed human.
Arrow attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Arrow damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
GM Birch |
Note to self, pick up my pace
Matam fires at the gnome and quite literally parts his hair for him, but doing no obvious damage as a result. Gwernach moves to close the gap to the new arrivals whilst Eltanin throws a bomb at them. Both seem to feel the effect of the attack, especially the gnome that looks ready to run.
Galen also moves up the stairs whilst the human calls out, ”Bloo, come here boy” and moves towards Gwernach and Galen. You hear barking in the distance. The gnome darts back out of the door he came in from before Tamat can strike.
Wilthorn pegs the human with a well aimed arrow and the man falls to the ground, clearly dead.
Tamat has an action but there is nobody within sight at present.
Gwernach Nickelbeard |
As long as Wilthorn sees the humor in stealing the half-orc from Gwernach before he could unleash some dwarven hatred, no, there is no problem :)
So order for round one is: Matam, Gwernach, Eltanin, Giggles, Wilthorn, Tamat
With the human fallen dead on the catwalk and the gnome disappearing into the room, Gwernach moves towards the door. (MA 10ft) Bloo?! He does a quick pat down of himself, his mind racing to remember if there was anything he could use to distract the dog. Blasted! No time! Gonna hav'ta cut'em. The dwarf readies his axe to silence 'Bloo' when it appears.
Readied SAtt.: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Possible DMG: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
AC 18 | HP 10 | Init 20 | No spells activated | RA will change Init to just before the baddies
GM Birch |
Can Tamat follow the gnome? Or is the shadow out of movement?
Tamat has whatever movement left as part of the existing 'round' since 'he' was unable to attack anything.
Just want round three actions to demonstrate if you're waiting for something to come through the door or if you're going to follow the gnome. I'd suggest we're still in combat.
Eltanin Titansglade |
Eltanin hastily moves to a position on the catwalk itself - she still feels more secure toward the rear despite the mutagens effects, but if anything comes through that door in her range, she will peg a dart at it.
Thrown Dart: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3-4 vs a target engaged in melee.
Dart Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Wilthorn Gwanae |
"Room is cleared, move to the next!" Wilthorn shouts at his allies, before turning to the door next to him. He quickly opens it. Move action to open door
If Galenn, or anyone else who appears hostile is in the room, he fires at them, else he moves into the room. Moving up to where he currently is on the map. If he does attack someone, I'll move him back.
Attack, if needed.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Add +2 to both if the target is human or partially human

[oocTo recap[/ooc]
You are in the first room you've managed to enter in the building. It is the height of a two-storey room, with the children on the ground floor. The staircase takes you to the height of a second floor - with a doorway that the gnome has just run through. You are deliberating following the gnome or waiting for the arrival of Bloo.
Gwernach and Eltanin appear to be set to wait for Bloo.
Tamat, Galen and Wilthorn have gone through the door.
Matam to be decided
I'll presume Matam goes with Tamat unless I hear otherwise and post later today
Please see my post about maps on the Discussion thread
GM Birch |
Two things happen simultaneously.
The door opens to let your fellow adventurers leave and at the same time a barking, snarling flea-bitten brown dog comes in the opposite direction.
The dog takes Giggles’ initiative spot on the combat
As you go through the door, you are aware of two things. Firstly a ball of brown fur come barking past you and into the room you’ve just vacated. Then you see the gnome leave the small corridor you’re currently in and go through a door at the end of the passageway.
There are no other exits in this unremarkable corridor.
Consider yourself out of combat now. The door the gnome has gone through leads to A4
Eltanin Titansglade |
Quickly, before the dog can select an entree, Eltanin throws her dart with all her might, ,muttering "Now Lamm owes me for making me be cruel to animals!"
Thrown Dart: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
I'm assuming this roll replaces the one I prepared before - at least I hope so, I think a nat 1 would have had me hitting Gwernach.
Gwernach Nickelbeard |
Gwernach had a readied action to attack Bloo when he comes through the door...did that get resolved? See Nov 27 posting
GM Birch |
Any chance for Galen to get an attack on the dog as it barrels by? I don't think he'd let it run right past him without trying to stop it.
This was a GM-based decision rather than a stats one. You ran through the door one way and the dog ran through the other way simultaneously. Resolving all those AoOs didn't feel practical.
Gwernach Nickelbeard |
A glint of finely forged steel flashes as it finds its mark. An instant later, the dog's decapitated body slumps onto the catwalk with a dull thud. Gwernach shakes his head at the sight, Nahh! Tha should'ave been tha ork!
The dwarf twitches his wrists, liberating his axe blade of its sanguine gore. Stepping over the bodies, he then makes his way down the hallway to the next room.
Wilthorn Gwanae |
If I wasn't clear in my last post, I think I'm in A7, after moving up the staircase on the west side of the building and into the room.
Seeing nothing of note, and hearing a commotion from the other side of the wall, Wilthorn moves up and open the door across the room. The door to A4 from A7.
Wilthorn Gwanae |
"He's getting away! I'm going after him, sweep the building or follow me!" Wilthorn shouts, before he dashes out the door. Longbow still in hand, he nocks an arrow, hunting for the gnome.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Eltanin Titansglade |
Eltanin, bemused at her inability to so much as stab as fast as Gwernach can slash, hears Wilthorn's directions and moves forward. She stops in the doorway, frowning as she looks back at the children.
To Gwernach and Tamat:"Perhaps we should continue to sweep the building. I don't like the idea of leaving the 'little Lamms' to chase down one of their enslavers when there are nooks and crannies still unsearched."
Galen Zanderholm |
Angry that the gnome is escaping, Galen drops his longsword (for now), and rushes through the door after Wilthorn, readying his bow while he moves.
If the gnome is in sight at all, he fires. But Iomedae's blessing isn't with him and the last-chance arrow flies wide of the mark.
Galen Bow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
"Verily, I am sorry we let that foul cur escape justice." Galen says, going back into the building, and regaining his dropped blade, sheathing it and shouldering his bow. "But we have perhaps freed all the Little Lamms here and that is for the greater good. Now we must search this place and find where Lamm hm self is hiding."
Galen looks carefully through A4, before heading to the door to A5.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Gwernach Nickelbeard |
Looks like the gnome got away :(
Having made his way into the room, Gwernach sees the two warriors returning. The disappointment worn on their faces is enough to tell him that the gnome got away. Their words only confirms his suspicion. There's no chance'n find'n tha one tonight...
With the possibility of Lamm still lurking in the building, the dwarf has no intention of leaving the building just yet. As Galen moves to check the door on the east side of the room, Gwernach moves to open the remaining door (A6) , I'll check this one, and step in side.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
GM Birch |
As you all suspect, the darkness has swallowed the gnome.
Gwernach checks the remaining room and finds a wooden desk sitting in one corner, its side preventing the door from opening all the way. The table is heaped with dozens of slate boards covered with chalk scrawls, while to the east a cabinet slouches against the wall. To the south, a few moldy boards have been nailed over a door.
This is clearly the fishery’s office. The slates on the table are covered with transaction records, addresses of customers, and other accounting notes.
A cursory glance of the information suggests there’s nothing more sinister going on here than slurry production.
Gwernach Nickelbeard |
Gwernach takes a mental note of the room's contents. Although tempting, he reminds himself it is Lamm that the party is seeking tonight, not the fisheries book keeping and all its dirty secrets. Although he promises himself to make a point of coming back to this room before the night is through.
Surmising that the door to the south leads back to the room where the children and Matam now wait, and remembering Galen's run in with the shark just outside the door to the east, Gwernach doesn't bother to investigate the room any further.
Satisfied that no one lurks in this room, the dwarf returns to report his findings to the party.
Thars no'much in 'ere ta bother with jus'now. Jus'abunch a'papers. What 'as Galen an Eltanin turned up?
GM Birch |
Annoyed that my post disappeared in response to Tamat...
Common sense says the building is over two floors yet you have exhausted every room on this level and see no way to access the lower floor.
Going back to the original room, you check the holes in the floor and see that, without any real difficulty, you can jump down onto a walkway just above the water level. It looks as though it leads to both the boat moored near the building and back under the building - possibly to an access door?
Galen Zanderholm |
Galen wrote:Galen looks carefully through A4, before heading to the door to A5. Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 18I think you might be describing A6, but as stated above Galen was looking through A4 on the way to A5. No love for him?
So are we not searching the first floor room by room, and just jumping to the hole in the floor? Is there nothing else of value to find in the rooms? What about on the bodies of the fallen?

I was responding to Tamat's post directly - not suggesting a course of action
GM Birch |
Galen examines the first room. A single desk sits in the middle of this room, a mouldy chair pushed up against the far side. A small pile of ratty furs and straw is heaped under the table. You surmise this is where the dog used to sleep.
The second room he investigates contains a pair of bunk beds against the far wall of the room to either side of a boarded-over window.
Galen Zanderholm |
He'll flip through the desk quickly looking for any sign of/information about Lamm. He looks under desk and beds for trap doors that might lead to the undercroft.
Growing frustrated, Galen growls "If that rat has escaped us...He must still be here somewhere. The Inheritor's justice will find him. It must." He sets his jaw and continues the search.
Not a detailed search, but a quick tossing of the place. If anything of value appears, Galen will note it, but not necessarily take it unless it can be used to further the search.
Once done, he'll return downstairs with the others.
Eltanin Titansglade |
Eltanin is looking over the bunk beds, still with a dagger in her hand, prodding at the cushioning to see if it's just that when she hears Gwernach's question. She replies just loudly enough for him to hear, "Nothing but bunks in here so far. Master Wilthorn, how about you?"
Wilthorn Gwanae |
Shaking out distracting thoughts with grim look on his his face, Wilthorn bluntly remarks "I-I'm fine. Let's check the bottom floor. C'mon." He silently drops down, and moves to the door, quietly opening it and peeking inside.
Taking 20 to disable locked door, if locked, total of 25

Gwernach Nickelbeard |
Well, no sense'n lurk'n bout 'ere. Gwernach shifts his weight to the hall he'd come down moments earlier. Pointing with his thumb, I'll go'an check on Matam an 'is friend. The dwarf takes two steps out of the room before turning, Hawl'r if ya need me! Smiling he marches back down the hall to the catwalk. Stepping over the bodies of the human and Bloo, Gwernach looks over the railing to the floor below.
Found anything Matam? Listening for anything Matam may have to report, Gwernach kneels to carefully search the deceased.

Galen uncovers nothing of note or value. It may be deliberate that this more public area of the building holds nothing of interest.

Two things strike Wilthorn immediately. Firstly there are two options - to take the walkway to the boat or alternatively to the door. The second is how close to the water-line this walkway is.
GM Birch |
Gwernach kneels to carefully search the deceased.
The dog has nothing except fleas. The gnome is wearing leather armour and has about his body a kukri, a disguise kit and a key to what is likely a wardrobe, desk or cabinet.
Giglgles is wearning studded leather armor and is carrying a flail.
Between them they carry 10sp and 20cp.
Gwernach Nickelbeard |
Just a technicality, but the gnome got away ;) The human male was slain on the catwalk. Can I presume he has the leather armour, kukri, disguise kit and a key?
Gwernach takes a few steps back down the hall to tell the others, as quietly as he dares, of Matam's find. Oi! Matam's found a way down ta 'nother room!
I'll wait to confirm the belongings before adding to the PBP
