"Why would anyone stash their bag here? And what happened to them..." A chill goes down his spine.
"I don't suppose Malsaire or one of the others can scout around this place can they?"

Feybella immediately recognises the items at hand. A belt of tumbling, a daredveils boots, and two potions of aid.
I originally had a dragon encounter in mind, but since so many folks have done dragons I'm changing that. So this next skill roll is an adjustment to that.

"Yep, but we can't tell what they are. It's a good thing Feybella can! They're all your's, gnomish one." Seren will happily hand over the boots for Feybella's inspection. Particularly because they didn't seem to be as good a fit as her own worn boots are.
"May have been another group of adventurer's here before. But it's finders keepers, I say." She makes a note not to stash anything where another group could find and claim it.
Bulgo gets a shake of his head for his question. "They can't wander away from me. I could let one control me, but then it would really just be me off scouting."

The pathfinders after dividing their new gear, continue down the stairs, which creaks a lot with each step. The new room looks exactly similar to the one which you've just came from, save for the buzzing noises coming a few holes in the wall. Before you know it, a bunch of stirges, giant like mosquitos, start coming out from the walls, eyeing on you, especially Serpentfang and Thoril, as if they were a giant plate of steak.
Let's go for our first battle!Y ou may roll kn. Dungeoneering and nature to identify the creatures. Every +5 above 10 gains you one question.

"Oh, oh bother, I probably should have used one of my wands before we kept going... Um... I guess it's time to fight."
Seren moves with far less confidence than Jax, but she falls into several light, fluid steps that have her literally dancing past Bulgo on the stairs. As she glides by the rogue could see her eyes roll back in her head and her skin turn deathly pale.
The woman suddenly moves with much firmer strides, drawing a pair of wakizashis that were previously hanging awkwardly from her belt, and with practiced confidence tries to knock a stirge from the air.
But despite the bravado the strike goes wide and a deep, masculine voice curses in Tien from Seren's lips.

And a swarm of striges start to fly towards the party. Seren and Jax immediately remove the threat of two of them as they fly into their area but the other stirges are quick to try to bite into the flesh of the party.

In case some of you are not familiar with how stirges work, you can attempt to shake them off by an escape artist or grapple check, or you can still attempt an attack roll if they are on you. They have to make a grapple check each round to see if they can maintain a hold on you.

Fang will 5ft step diagonally to the right and cast Burning hands, DC 15 Ref=1/2 aiming the cone so it doesn't hit his allies. Aryeh will then move up and try to bite the storage off his master.

So retconning, Serpentfang's burning hands would be able to take out 4 of the stirges and Bulgo can take out the last two on Serpentfang. Hence Thoril can save the rage use. But I'm going to rule that it also would have hurt Thoril and Jax, so I need them to make a reflex save to see if it's full damage of half.

![]() |

"Good teamwork..." says Bulgo, flinching a little at the fire.
"Those things would probably have hurt more than the fire.. probably."
He looks around to see if there is a nest they might have come from.

Seren's blade strikes through a stirge and then a gout of flame leaves half of her sweating. She scans the room with a pale face. And seeing nothing to suggest immediate danger something flees her form and her body momentarily goes slack as the color starts to return.
A color which continues from healthy to a vague shade of green. "Geh... I really, really hate doing that." She awkward adjusts the grips on her weapons, sheathing one to start fumbling in her pack with a shaking hand for wands.
"I'm very glad giant, monster bugs didn't get onto me." Words in response to Bulgo. "I have a healing wand in my bag if someone needs it."
Seren has -2 to all her D20s for a minute, if anything happens in soon.

Everyone seems to be fine, and Seren didn't need to her wand for herself so she drops it back in her pack.

"Nobody else heard the creepy voice?" asks Bulgo.
"Maybe this place is just getting to me. Still, maybe one of you religious types who can deal with undead should go first. I ahh.. forgot to make my last donation to Desna."

![]() |

Seren takes the few moments the party continues to speak to collect herself, with a final wipe of her brow she'll sigh and roll her shoulders, shaking off the impact of her earlier possession.
At Bulgo's words she grins and throws up a hand. "Oh, pick me! I'm great with ghosts and spooky things. And Malraise can help." She'll adjust the poor grips she has on her weapons and awkwardly hustle after Thoril and Jax, taking up her place just behind them.

![]() |

Cautiously the party enters into the dark, dusty, slimy corridor. The silence of the corridor send a chill down everyone's bones. Thoril, Jax, and Seren takes the lead. Not soon after, the corridor feels like it's shaking! And a voice of evil can be heard.
The voice screams at you. "Go, go, find more to worship absaloms next god, Tar-Baphon" Make a DC 15 will save, if you are good or chaotic aligned you Grr a +2 bonus to save, being both grants a +4. If you fail, read spoiler ???

I'm using it because I've wanted to since I got it!
Seren chooses to auto-fail her save versus the haunt in order to protect the party. No one else is affected by it, but it possesses her body. I get saves every minute to remove it and break the effect. I'm going to assume some actions it would do based on the effect, but GM you basically have control of the character as the haunt if you want it, or I can do it. Let me know when to make my first will save.
"I knew it, it's a ghost! Look out Bulgo, I'll protect you!" Even as the halfling starts to get some crazy ideas in his head Seren bodily and unnecessary moves between him and further down the hallway. Her body will suddenly and she'll sheath her weapon.
After a moment silence she'll throw her arms up in the air and her utterly pale face will break in a broad grin. "Praise be to Tar-Baphon, Brothers and Sisters! Come, join me, we must go bring more to the cause!" She'll begin marching back towards the entrance of the crypt with zealous determination.

"What is going on?" She looks confused as people suddenly start talking about Tar-Baphon, and recruiting worshipers.

Not sure if the rest of us even need to roll, so for now...
Umm guys? What's going on, and why are you talking about Tar-Baphon? We must continue the mission. Seren are you okay?

![]() |

Fantastic, glad you could do the ability! No one else needs to make a save, and only Seren is affected.
What you possibly know about this haunt.

Tar-Baphon's cult must be expanded. She's the one to do it and help the world hear of his greatness. And yes she should be heading to a town to spread the word more quickly, but there are ignorant folk right here as well!
She'll stop her march for the exit to grab Serpentfang by the shoulders and try to shake them excitedly. "I am the herald of the new god Tar-Baphon! You should not be ignorant of his greatness, for he shall be a god and spread his will once more over the land! Even Aroden fears to face his undead armies now. Come with me and spread word of his grandeur!"
She then drives a pointed finger towards Bulgo. "There is no Seren, only the Tyrant. And he cannot die, he is undeath itself."

![]() |

This isn't our Seren...Seren come back!
Fang reaches into his pack and pulls out his wand
Seren, I know you're in there be strong. I dunno if this will work but here goes nothing.
Serpentfang casts Protection from Evil on Seren.

![]() |

Fangs spell doesn't work against cleansing the haunt. as the haunt is already inside her, you basically gave an evil creature protection from evil! Which works per RAW, as I googled it up.

![]() |

Bulgo certainly isn't going to let her wander unescorted through the area. He'll stick by and try to work out what is happening, and keep her safe from orcs. If we get to the nearest town, his backup plan is to find a cleric that can exercise her.
