Oh, gods. Not Far Cry 5 references! Everyone is loving it: The kids, Shiro, Shiro's son, NobodysWife.

It holds 0 appeal to me.

I try to play it a bit just to make a little progress so when people want me to play with them I can, but I consider it the most unfun game I've been stuck playing in quite a while.

I just don't like first-person shooters. Never have. Never will.

NobodysHome: So, Impus Major. Today's your birthday. But your mom is out tonight, so we'll have to do your birthday dinner another night.
Impus Major: OK.

NH: Oh, OK. Do you want it delivered, or do you want to eat there?
IM: Definitely delivered!
NH: Well, gee. I guess we *can* do your birthday dinner tonight, then!

If you're talking about me/Henderson, it was not a FC5 reference, just a reference to the original Henderson story. I am likewise not a FPS fan.

Ah, OK.

Well, the "plot" of FC5 is basically that you need to exterminate a bunch of cultists in rural Montana. They even have their own "faith music".

And of course Impus Major downloaded the soundtrack and put it on the other day.

*SIGH*

No, Henderson is a PC from a Trail of Cthulhu game notorious for incredibly derailing the game and ending up killing Hastur.

Tequila Sunrise wrote:

Introducing The Extraordinaire, D&Dish's answer to the rogue, the ranger's monster-hunter shtick, and other fighty-skillmonkey concepts. All of its combat features proc on a skill check, either directly or indirectly.

Similarly to the fighter, the extraordinaire chooses one skill to 'specialize' in, but can swap specialties with 8 hours of practice. So there's quite a bit of flexibility to avoid the "Whelp, I'm a feint-master and we're fighting lots of animals and mindless undead, so I'm useless this adventure" problem.

Not sure how the extraordinaire will be balance-wise, as skill bonuses will diverge as levels increase. Not as much as in 3.x, but still.

Okay this is just a quick look through, but here's a couple of first read through thoughts.

1. I like the base lay out and idea behind of the Extraordinaire. Taking bit of the Ranger and Rogue and mashing them together seem to work wonders in most cases (just look at the Slayer).
Though a small part of me will miss the particular combination of abilities that is the Ranger.

2. While Extraordinary Tactics is a great idea, I'm a bit of two mind if what you have presented here is a bit much of a mouthful for a single class.

2a. Backstab: I don't really have a problem with how you're going about it here. Limiting it to less applicable situations might be a bitte pill to swallow, but if that can be tinkered with either trough other Skill, Abilities or even Spells its livable. As for a bonus dmg = lvl, it seems a tad low but its hard to judge without proper context (ie play testing).

2b. Favored Enemy: Looks great, no grumblings here.

2c. Feint: Not really a fan of making what was a combat manoeuvre into a class locked special ability. Stuff like this really should be less powerful, but ultimately feat-based. This is about the most of a grumble you'll get out of me :P.

2d. Skirmish: Its okay I guess. It been one of those feature that's been played around with before, but is often locked down by the inability to move + full-attack. But as I sense you'll be moving away from that, it can work.
My question though would be how it would work with a "Shot-on-the-Run archery build"...

2e. Warcry: The ability looks and feels great. Though I still have a bit of a beef with it. It just doesn't sit right with me for a Skill-based/Precision-based/Dungeoneering type to be screaming into the faces of their opponents to scare them shitless.
Though It might be a perfect little addition to either the Fighter or Berserk class *Wink-wink, Nodge-nodge*

Side-note:
Please ask into anything if you have any difficulty understanding my points. I'm very scatter-brained when in game-analysis mode, with my writing often lagging far behind my thinking, so things can come across as weirdly unfinished :P.

Glad you like the basic idea! The idea of D&Dish is you'll be able to (roughly) recreate a D&D class, if you wish. A ranger would be an Extraordinaire/Priest of Nature Deity/(Pet Class?). Admittedly, I have not created a pet class yet.

Kjeldorn wrote:

Er, good question! I'll probably make skirmish a melee-only tactic. And maybe create a tactic for archery, perhaps involving Perception checks...

Yeah, play testing is the ultimate test. My thinking with +damage class features is that D&Dish characters have a BDB (base damage bonus) instead of a BAB, so class features don't need to provide such extreme +damage. But we'll see, if I ever finish and then play test this thing...

Anyway, thanks again for commenting!
